Homefront

"Robin, that's all for today's patrol. You can head over to the mountain if you wish."

"Got it." The Boy Wonder smiled as the satisfaction of a day of patrol kicked in.

It had been two days since he lied to Bruce and he had received no sign of the Court of Owls watching him, so his fear his had resided slightly. Perhaps, they had no idea of his current location and merely knew that he had once been in Biayla.

Unfortunately, that didn't seem to be the case as he heard the sound of footsteps bounce of the walls on the seemingly isolated alleyway.

Robin was quick to turn around, preparing for battle, but no one was there.

Though in the place of where a person should have been, there was a slip of paper.

Robin snatched it from the ground and immediately scanner the words typed across the thin paper.

Richard,

I am most pleased that you were able to keep our previous message a secret. I knew that you were still loyal to the Court of Owls.
That being said, you need to return immediately. Yes, there will be consequences, especially after what occurred with the Talon, but it needs to be done. I have decided to take this peaceful approach in hopes that you will see the mistakes you have made, and if you cannot realize the error of your ways and return willingly, I believe the Court will have to take a more hostile approach. Unfortunately, we will only need you to return. You must disregard our previous orders to murder Bruce Wayne and we will not be asking of you to murder your... Teammates. Since, of course, a Talons first kill must be decided by high rankings in the Court of Owls. Do heed these words.

W.C.

"No... No, no, no... Leave me alone! What do you want from me?!" He yelled, not expecting an answer. He was sure that his Uncle had left by now, but he couldn't help it but yell.

He felt completely helpless, almost as if the world of crumbling beneath his feet.

Still loyal

No.

No.

He wasn't still loyal... He had ran from them. Betrayed them. Had one simple lie made him loyal to the Court of Owls?

Robin wanted to just curl up on the spot. To stay there forever without fearing the Court of Owls or the safety of his loved ones, but he knew that it wasn't that simple. He knew that he would have to fight through the pain if he ever wanted a normal life.

So, with that in mind, Robin crumbled the note in his hand and headed towards the nearest zeta-tube. He was tired of being afraid of them.

"When I get back, I'll even tell Bruce the truth." He silently announced.

Upon arrival, he noticed a familiar archer. He forced a smirk onto his face,"Artemis!"

She jumped back surprised,"Robin. I uh..."

"How random that you're in Gotham City instead of Star City where your Uncle Green Arrow lives." He knew the truth about her past and who she was, but he wasn't just going to tell her. What would be the fun in that?

"I'm uh... Here to see my cousin! She was in the state spelling bee- here. In Gotham. City."

"C-O-O-L. Did she W-I-N?" Thoughts of the note seemed to disappear, almost as if that had never happened.

Artemis sent him a glare,"N-O."

"D-R-A-G."

"Yeah, let's just go to the cave." She changed the subject.

Robin gave a small bow,"Ladies first."

"Your town, you go."

Robin shrugged and walked into the booth.

Recognize Robin: B01

A huge ball of fire was immediately shot in his direction. He flipped out of the way.

Then he heard Artemis' name being announce by the zeta beam.

"Get down!" He yelled as soon as she was in the cave. Fortunately, she did just that, dodging a large fire ball.

Robin flipped next to Artemis and threw exploding discs towards the intruder, but they seemed to have no effect. Though that didn't seem to stop him from using his weapons.

Artemis used her bow and arrow, releasing many arrows towards the enemy, but the two of them working together did little to nothing.

A large fire ball was shot their way, forcing them both to jump out of the way.

"Who are you we fighting?"Artemis yelled out as she released more arrows.

"Don't know, but we're sitting ducks by these tubes. Head for the exit!" The both darted for the exit, dodging the balls of fire being shot at them.

And just when they thought they were in the clear, a large wave of water flowed in their direction,"Or not."

They were completely helpless as the water rushed over them, having them collide with a nearby wall. Fortunately, the water drained as quickly as it has appeared.

The two heroes took no time to gather themselves and take off towards the exit, both being forced to dodge more balls of fire.

They entered the exercise room, grateful that the door automatically closed behind them.

"Robin to team, come in! Aqualad!"

Artemis tried M'gann's mind link,"M'gann, can you hear me? Are you there?"

The door suddenly exploded, sending them both flying forwards.

Robin turned to see a tornado made purely of fire, less than 10 feet away from the two. He quickly got on his feet, as did Artemis, and ran to the nearest room possible.

"Robin to Batcave- override RG4! Cave calling Justice League HOJ/Watchtower B01 priority red!" The teens found themselves within the showers. They turned the knobs allowing water to flow down onto the tiled floor.

"Comm is down, blocked." Robin reported to Artemis,"At least the water is helping."

He seemed to have spoken to soon as the shower knobs popped of the walls, the faucets and tiles following close behind. This only caused the water to flow faster, causing it to fill the room.

"Or not." Robin said once again.

In hopes to drain the water, Robin planted a exploding disk on a nearby wall. Once it exploded, they were sent to the room over, along with the water.

They both took no time to get up and run towards the next room. Which happened to be the kitchen,"We need to get lost." Robin spoke silently.

"The air vent!" Artemis suggested.

"Good! Go."

Artemis ran forwards, while Robin stayed back, working on his new holo-computer,"What are you-?"

"Downloading cave blueprints, could come in-" Metal clanking could be heard,"Go!"

They both raced into the vents.

Once inside, Robin pulled up the blueprints,"Go left." He directed.

Then as soon as he turned, a pillar of fire appeared behind him. The Boy Wonder let out a worried sigh,"Too close. Take the first right. There should be a vent cover right in front of you." And that there was.

As both jumped out of the vents, ending up in the boiler room,"This way." Robin leaded.

They both ran, but were stopped by an explosion behind them. A figure engulfed in fire should on an upper level of the room. With the simple raise of its hands, fire consumed the ceiling.

Robin and Artemis took this as their cue to hide, both stopping behind a matching which levels were changing from green to red, quite rapidly.

"That's not good." They decided it'd be best to get away from the machine. And that they did, as they ignored the bursts of steam coming from nearby bursting pipes. Then soon enough, they were forced to dodge some more fire, as they had been found.

The both perched behind another machine,"I know there's an access tunnel here somewhere." Robin looked over the blueprints.

"You mean, this one?" Artemis pointed towards a large grate on the ground. They both removed the grate, and jumped through the hole, once again in the vents.

"Hold on,"Robin stopped Artemis to plug his computer into a nearby connection,"Locking all nearby motion and heat sensors to prevent them from tracking us."

"And I ask again, who is the enemy? Could it be the Court of Owls?" Robins face paled. He had gotten that message, but all signs pointed to no.

"Not their style. They go for stealth. Plus, none of them can shoot fire from their hands."Robins frown changed to a smirk,"But let's find out." He accessed the cave security footage,"There!"

The image showed the team, they were working a motorcycle. Then when Wally started going on about Artemis being hostile and annoying, an explosion took out the camera.

"What happened?"

Robin narrowed his eyes,"Explosion took out the camera. I'll find another angle."

All the remaining cameras had footage that led to static,"That's it, all four are dead."Artemis jumped back and Robin realized his mistake,"The cameras! I meant the cameras. I'm sure the others are okay. Just give me a sec to find the fasted route to the hangar."

Artemis slumped back,"Yeah, they're fine. They all have superpowers. They can handle anything."

Robin ignored her and lead them to the library,"There should be a secret passage way somewhere in here."

"Seriously? Cliche much?"

"You should see the Batcave."

Upon the sound of noise, the two raised their weapons and hid behind the nearest book case.

"Artemis, Robin." A familiar voice spoke.

Artemis lit up,"It's Red Tornado!" She ran out to greet him only to confront a robot, which was most definitely not Red Tornado.

Robin was quick to react and he pushed Artemis out of the way before the enemy could attack,"Yes on the Red, no on the Tornado!"

They both ran from the enemy only to come face to face with another seemingly similar robot. The curved right as the second enemy raised its arms to attack them.

Robin leapt on a bookcase, knowing Artemis was right behind him.

Where was that passage way?

He jumped down and began reading the names on the spines of the books. It had to be one of those.

Luckily, as Artemis landed next to him he found the correct one and yanked it out, revealing the passage way, giving them just enough time to jump in before they were crushed by the now falling book cases.

"Did you know that Tornado had... Siblings?" Artemis yelled out once they were a good distance from the robots last location.

"No." Robin replied simple. He turned down a hallway, but stopped as someone gripped his arm.

"So now what? Red Tornado is one of the powerhouses of the league! How are we supposed to take down two of them?" She seemed frantic.

"They do seem pretty user unfriendly."

"Don't joke, they-"

A robotic voice interrupted her bickering,"Attention Robin, Attention Artemis. You have exactly ten minutes to surrender or the lives of your teammates will be extinguished."

The two teens sent each other a worried glance. This was not good...

---

"Eight Minutes."

"We can access the hangar from here." Robin turned to see a wave of water gushing towards them,"Or not."

"Will you please stop saying that?" They ran away from the water, yet again.

Once consumed by the water, Robin released his cape. It would only make it harder to swim. He placed a breather in his mouth and made his way to Artemis. Her arrows were floating around in the water as they fell from her quiver.

Robin placed his breather in her mouth. At the moment she needed it more.

Suddenly she was pulled back. One of the Reds had gotten her. She pounded on its head with her fists, but to no avail.

Robin grabbed a floating arrow from the water and stabbed it into the eye of the robot. Allowing them both to escape. Though Robin didn't forget to leave a trail of bombs behind for their enemy.

The teens teens surfaced out of breathe. They hardly got any air into their lungs before they heard Wally shout out,"Look out!"

They avoided the bomb, barely, and made their way to Kid Flash and Superboy,"You guys okay?"

"Forget us! Help M'gann!" Superboy yelled.

"Aqualad,"Artemis' voice cracked,"Is she-?"

"She is unconscious. I fear she-we will not survive much longer."

Robin and Artemis looked up at the perfect time to see fire being hurdled their way. They ducked into the water as headed for the steps.

Once on, they ran, but were immediately faced by on of the Reds, and behind them was the other robot,"I'm almost out of arrows." Artemis panicked.

"Distract them, now!" Artemis obeyed and shot an arrow towards the robot on her side. Robin did the same but with exploding discs. Both weapons seemed to have no effect as one robot raised water to attack, and the other fire.

Robin and Artemis jumped off the steps just before the water collided with the fire, leaving them unharmed.

The two swam until they found themselves in the vents again. They took a moment to catch their breathes before speaking or moving.

"Six minutes"

"What are we supposed to do now?" Artemis seemed fed up.

"We save them. That's how it works." Robin said nonchalantly.

"Maybe that's how it works, but these robots just took out our four super powered friends!"

"You seem distraught."

"Distraught!" She lashed out,"M'gann is dying! We have no powers! And I'm down to my last arrow! Of course I'm distraught!"

"Well  get traught, or get dead." He began to crawl through the vents.

"How can you be so calm?"

"I've been through much worse with the Court of Owls. I had to learn to stay calm or get myself killed."

"What good is that now? What chance do we have against unrelenting machines?"

"Oh, duh, they're machines. And one Electric Magnetic Pulse will shut down any machine in range."

"Great! Except you better have an EMP emitter in your utility belt, because I know I don't have one in my quiver."

He smiled,"Fresh out, but I'm betting we can make one." He pressed his comm,"What you saying, KF, doable?"

"Totally doable."

"5 Minutes."

The speedster frowned,"You know, if you had more time...."

---

"Okay, make with the distraction." Robin said through the comms. They had the EMP. It was just a matter of connecting it to the generator. Simple enough... Right?

"Tomato! Who's your girlfriend, Red Onion?" Robin heard Kid Flash yelled out.

Superboy was next,"By the way, worst death trap ever! We can escape anytime we want!"

"I can vibrate my molecules out of here before your binary brains can count to two." Robin and Artemis quietly ran towards the generator once the robots were distracted.

"Cover me." Robin whispered as he connected his grappling hook to the ceiling.

"You can't drown a Kryptonian dumbbots! We don't breathe air!" Robin heard Superboy yell.

"Hahaha, and Miss Martian, I can't believe you're buying her act!"

"Retorting power now." Robin silently whispered as he worked. He turned his head to see if they robots had noticed him, but they still seemed to be listening to Kid Flash and Superboy,"It's not working!" He looked over his work,"The circuits incomplete! I need something to conduct it, a piece of-"

"Robin, look out!" Robin had no time to react as he was consumed by a large wave of water. He had no extra rebreather on him, and he hadn't exactly had time to hold his breathe.

He felt himself being lifted.

Pretend to be unconscious, he thought. He closed his eyes and remained motionless, but he needed air and he knew that he couldn't hold out any longer.... He felt himself truly fall unconscious as his lungs called out for air, but were granted only water.

---(skipping because I'm too lazy to finish writing that... Sorry, but not sorry)---

Robin slowly opened his eyes as he heard his name being called.

"Robin."

He forced his eyes open only to see The Dark Knight standing above him.

Bruce stuck out a hand to help his protege. "What happened?"

Robin looked around as he recalled the events that took place. He recited it all to Batman, hiding no details.

Batman didn't seem to be fazed by the information, but he sent Robin a look reading are you okay?

Robin merely nodded.

"What happened here?" Superman asked Artemis.

She was obviously upset,"What happened? The Reds happened! Tornado and his- wait, where are they?"

"Gone." Robin answered,"All three of them, gone."

So... The next chapter is actually going to be word-per-word because that mission takes place right after this episode, but don't worry, we will not have an episode related chapter after that!

There we will see some Wally/Dick bonding. But I may or may not need some suggestions as to what Dick and Wally should do on their day off. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me ideas. I'm experiencing major writers block at the moment.
