Chapter 28
Unknown Rogue POV
"We spotted them, sir. They are at a local diner. She looked pretty drugged up but still healthy." Jack informs me.
"Well, it's good for him that he's keeping her healthy. Now let's go help Scarlett out. She rarely asks for favors and is always willing to help us - so it's our turn to help - especially since this girl is a Luna of a pack." I command him.
We try to slowly close in on this bastard, but he spots us too soon - although not quickly enough. He speeds off quickly, trying to pay attention to the road but also keep an eye on us. I keep watching his movements, but they are starting to get more erratic. On these roads, in this weather, he's going way too fast.
"Tell everyone to fall back slightly. Have Samson and his team set up 50 miles ahead, but I think this idiot will wreck before then." I tell Jack.
The car seems to hit a patch of ice, and he does the rookie mistake of slamming the breaks, causing him to skid sideways and lose traction, colliding into a tree beside the road, nearly hitting another car coming from the opposite direction.
"Damn, guys pull over, we gotta get her out."
The crash was intense. The black Camaro skidded across the icy patch and headed straight for the trees. It seemed like the driver tried to miss the trees, but when the whole side of the road is covered in trees - you can't miss them all. The car seemed to go in between trees, but that only means that damage will occur everywhere because the front isn't going to miss a tree either. We rush to the car and both occupants are out cold - thankfully. The driver seemed to get the least of the injuries, his head cradled in the air bag even if blood was all over it. The passenger however seemed to be crushed within - part of the metal collapsed into her side and glass was lying everywhere. The airbag deployed but from the look of the passenger side window, she must have hit it. Unfortunately a particularly large piece is jammed into her arm and blood was seeping everywhere.
"Let's get the female out first. She seems to have the most serious injuries. She is losing quite a bit of blood from the glass embedded in her arm." Jack yells out to the rest of the warriors.
Everyone joins in to pull part of the door off the car to try and get her out, but her leg is caught under the dash. We have to brainstorm a solution.
"Jack have the guys start to try and pull the metal away from the section behind the passenger door, then we will try and pull the seat back so that hopefully this will give us the room to try and extricate her from under the dash."
"Samson and his men will be here in five Alpha. That will give us more muscle." Jack informs me.
"Good we might need that muscle. This is going to be a difficult job to complete, but we have to get her out of there. We'll leave getting the bastard out for second." I comment. As hateful as it sounds, I'd rather the guy die in this car than have to fool with him. He's going to be a major problem - for all of us I'm afraid.
It doesn't take long for Samson and his men to get there, and we work with the structure of the car to peel back the crumpled metal. We finally get to where we can pull on the passenger seat. One set of men stand next to the girl and the next set get behind. With much effort we are finally able to move everything enough to get her out. She is a mess off blood and broken bones.
"We need to get her to the pack infirmary immediately. Does anyone here has medical training?" I ask everyone standing there.
A young guy named Travis steps forward. "Good. See what you can help with so we can transport her." I demand.
He gathers a few people and holds a bandage near the glass and as someone pulls it out, he quickly applies pressure.
"This needs immediate attention Alpha Forst. I'm going to have to ride right next to her to keep pressure. I'm not sure what arteries and/or veins have actually been clipped by this glass, but she is losing a lot of blood." And the grim expression on his face tells me everything I need to know.
"Immobilize her the best you can, and get her situated in the back of one of the SUVs. We don't have any time to lose - lets get her moving. A few men stay back so we can get the bastard out of the car. Unfortunately it looks like he also survived the crash. We need to tend to his injuries so he can answer for what he has done.
Everyone rushes to get their tasks complete and soon enough the SUV with the young girl is speeding off for our pack. I just pray she makes it - she is newly mated to an Alpha and I'm not sure how well that will go if he loses her.
Once we get her to the pack infirmary, I will need to call alpha Blackrose and let her know about what is going on. This is going to be a long night, and I need to get some sort of area set up for guests.
Once we get back to the pack territory, I head straight for the infirmary.
"How is she doing?" I ask Travis.
"Right leg broken, cracked ribs, glass hit some blood vessels but luckily not any major ones, bleeding in the brain although small so the doctor thinks that it won't do permanent damage. The rest are cuts and bruises, but it will take her some time to heal."
"Well, I suppose it could be worse. What about the asshole?"
"He got out lucky - unfortunately. Concussion and some cuts and bruises."
"Asshole. Where is he now?"
"Gamma Samson had him taken to the cells once he was cleared. The concussion can be monitored by the doctor while he is in the cells. He made sure to put him in the cell set for any species since we didn't know what kind he is."
"That's great. Now I have the unfortunate task of calling Alpha Blackrose."
Leaving Travis at the infirmary, I make my way to my office to make the phone call I almost dread.
"Alpha Blackrose."
"Alpha Forst, good to hear from you. What do I owe this call from you?"
"We found the girl."
"That's great news. Where is she and when can we come to get her. Her mate will be ecstatic."
Knowing the news I have to give her next doesn't help the pacing that I have been doing.
"There were some problems."
"How so?"
"The idiot hit a patch of ice and wrecked his car. The bastard got out of it relatively unscathed but the girl didn't."
"Please tell me she's still alive." And I hear the panic in her voice.
"She's alive but was severely injured. Broken leg and ribs, large gash on her arm, and a small brain bleed. The doctor thinks she will recover rather quickly, but she can't be moved for the moment. I took the liberty to assume that some of you would like to come to the territory until she is stable enough to move and set up some quarters for you."
"Thank you Alpha Forst. I will get together a team and we will be there tomorrow."
"I look forward to seeing you again."
"Same here."
Scarlett
"Julian!" I called out, rubbing my temples as the headache continues to pound in my skull, my shoulder still aches a little from its previous injury, stress being a factor in both my ailments.
Soon enough I hear the sound of footsteps rushing down the hall, no doubt Jules.
"What the hell Red?!" He exclaims irritably as he reaches the doorway, my mood not being the only one that's soured since Eva's disappearance, the only difference is that I have a mate to help alleviate mine.
"I need you to take care of the pack for a few days." I murmur as I continue to rub my temples, and he narrows his eyes questioningly.
"Care to elaborate?"
Sighing, I shut my eyes tightly, trying to still my nerves before the next words come out.
"They found Eva." I say carefully, but I can tell I wasn't good enough at hiding all of my emotions. Cautiously, Julian walks forward.
"What are you not telling me?"
"Just...sit down." I urge, and after a moment of hesitation he does, while I stay up and pace...I can't sit still right now.
"Red, please sit down...or something, you know I don't like it when you pace." He asks, knowing I only do this when I'm either really pissed or really stressed - and honestly, right now I'm a bit of both.
Sighing, I halt in my tracks and leaned onto the back of my chair, my hands squeezing it tight.
"Eva's been rescued, but the idiot wrecked the car...she's got some serious injuries, broken bones and a brain injury."
I start, relief and immense worry warring in his eyes.
"Alpha Forst invited me to bring a few people up to his territory until she's recovered enough to be moved. It shouldn't be but a few days, but you know I have to take Callum."
His fingernails dig into the arms of the chair, just mentioning his name seems to flare a whole other set of emotions. It pains me to see that look in his eyes, but I understand why she made her decision - although I'm not so certain it was the right one. I personally think he's an arrogant prick, but he's Eva's mate nonetheless...and it's her decision.
"I understand...as long as she's taken care of, that's all that matters. Everything here will be run as usual until your return." He responds stiffly, but I can tell by his choice of words that he is far from ok.
"She did it for you...you know that right?" I remind him, and he lowers his eyes in defeat.
"I know, but it doesn't make it any easier." He mutters as he runs a hand through his hair.
"I just hope it was the right decision."
"So do I - So do I." He whispers.
After a few minutes of silence, I decide to break it.
"Once I return home you can go see her if you like, she could use all the support she can get right now." I say as I stand up, needing to get ready to travel...maybe get a nap on the way there...goddess knows I need one.
"Definitely, whether that Alpha likes it or not." He replies fiercely as I walked past him, and I flash him a small smile as I place a hand on his shoulder before I walk to my bedroom.
I know I need to tell Callum the news, but I'm not in a good state of mind to be in his presence, which is why I'm going to see Raphael first.
I have no idea what I'm going to find when I get to Eva's location, but at least my mate will provide some comfort - I have a feeling I'm going to need it.
Alarick Forst POV
"Alpha Forst." This kid bows his head in respect.
"Enough with the formalities now, just call me Alarick."
"Callum Walsh, future Alpha of the New Dawn Pack. Eva Gray is the future Luna of the pack."
"Scarlett informed me of the situation, and I was happy to lend a hand. Any friend of Scarlett's is a friend of mine."
"How long have you known Scarlett?" He asks.
"Oh, me and her go back. Our packs used to run into and cover each other's backs before she moved down to New Orleans. She's saved my ass a couple of times." I chuckle.
"I didn't know rogues...well..." he trails off.
"Looked after each other? We're not as 'lone wolf, everyone for themselves' as most claim. With cannibals out there, and wolves as young as pups being cast out, we have to look out for each other."
He nods, a bit of curiosity in his gaze. "She saved your ass?"
I laugh, grimly remember that particular fight. "Lets just say that the last fight we had, she protected a couple of pups from seven cannibals...by herself. By the time we got there, she had already killed them all with her bare hands."
He blinks, a similar expression to one I had back then.
"My advice to you young Alpha, never get on her bad side...unless you have a death wish."
"Where's Eva at, by the way?"
"She's at the infirmary, but there is something I should warn you about. It seems that because of the car accident, she's developed some short-term memory loss. The doctors don't know how far back in time, and how long it will be before she gains her memory. He suggested that you guys should visit her in the order that she met you. It might give us an idea how far back the memory loss goes."
