Chapter 2
"I'm sorry I have to do this for your safety Eva." he says and walks out of the room. I follow in confusion until he gets into the middle of a stark white hallway.
"I, Isaiah Jacob Newport, future Alpha of the Crimson Edge Pack, reject you Evangeline Leah Gray of the Silver Tide Pack, as my mate and future Luna."
I didn't give it a second thought.
"I, Evangeline Leah Gray of the Silver Tide Pack, accept your rejection, Isaiah Jacob Newport, future Alpha of the Crimson Edge Pack, as my mate and future Alpha."
With that he hit his knees, as my heart shatters into a million pieces.
I calmly walk over to him and whisper the first part.
"I did it for your safety." I repeat his words back to him, then continue louder. "You don't have a clue who the fuck you rejected asshole. I can take care of myself more than you ever could have. FUCK YOU and YOUR PRECIOUS LIFE! To think that I have been in love with you since I was a kid. You said you'd always be there to catch me — I was a fool to believe that! Goodbye, Isaiah! Don't think you'll ever get me back!!!" I am screaming now.
When I turn and leave, he chases after me. He catches me by the waist and turns me around, and actually has tears in his damn eyes.
"You don't understand, Eva. There've been threats to whoever I found out is my mate." He tries to argue.
"Are these the same threats that you have been getting for the past six months?" I ask flatly.
"How did you know about that ?" He stutters — I suppose shocked that I already know.
"Did you forget that the members of my family have various powers, not to mention numerous allies?" I answer coldly. "So you, dear Isaiah, have no idea who I am! Now you'll never get the chance!" I holler while poking him in the chest — for dramatic effect — of course.
"No Eva, I've always loved you." He pleads — sadness and regret filling his eyes.
"Obviously not enough to trust me to tell me what is going on." Tears start leaking out, but I don't let them all fall. "Now you'll never have me. I'm gone!" I state and jerk myself out of his grasp.
Hearing him running after me, I use my teleportation power to get out to my car even faster. I drive home trying to decide what my next course of action is going to be. A trip with Sienna, yeah, that's the ticket. School has just started, so we can re-enroll later. I can go to a completely different university, so I don't have to see Isaiah. As much as I hate to admit it, his rejection shattered my heart and left me with a hole there. First, calling Sienna to let her know what happened and if she wants to go, I call mom and tell her the same thing. She wholeheartedly agrees that I need time away. She moved from one pack to another to escape from the one that rejected her — well he actually did make her life a living hell.
At home, I am greeted by my obnoxious twin, Ethan, whom I scowl at.
"Are you OK, Evan ?" Ethan asks, obviously concerned about me, but I'm not in the mood to discuss things right now. Evan — Ethan is the only one who is allowed to call me that — twin privileges.
"I'm fine."
"You don't look fine." He reiterates.
"Then stop looking!" I huff and stomp off. I am not in the mood to talk with my twin about my recent rejection. Ethan is much more sensitive to my emotions, but I'm still not even ready to talk with him. The topic is still too touchy for me to discuss with anyone. The only people that know are my mom and Sienna — and probably my dad by now.
Before I could get too far, my mom stops me and looks at me sympathetically. Luckily she doesn't push the topic. The only thing she says to me is that my dad wants to talk to me before I finalize plans for the adventure I am planning for myself and Sienna. Not wanting to put the talk off any longer, I make my way to his office.
"Hey dad, you wanted to talk?"
"Yes Eva. Shut the door and come sit down." My dad says sternly.
"Ok." I mumble.
"If you want to get away, how about taking a message to the Blackrose Swamp Pack in southern Louisiana?" he asks.
"Sure, what's so important about this message that it has to be hand delivered?" I question.
"The Crimson Edge and Sanguis Silence Packs plan on an alliance." He advises me.
"Why would they do that?" I inquire.
"Power and greed. They want to take over smaller packs and gain their territories and resources. The Blackrose Swamp Pack has a tremendous amount of land that they think will be good to control."
"So there is a reason for the death threats?" I probe further.
"Yes, people don't want any of Alpha Newport's heirs to be able to keep control of the Crimson Edge Pack. Isaiah's father has become dangerous. After the death of his mate, Alpha Newport starting becoming unstable."
"I had no idea that Isaiah's mom died. He never mentioned it. Of course, we only talked one time before he rejected me."
"I'm sorry that happened to you, princess."
"I'll be ok. Mom survived her rejection, and she was led to you. Hopefully I will be lead to someone that loves me as much as you love mom." I remark sincerely.
"Things haven't always been easy in our relationship, but I'd do anything for your mom."
"So what can you tell me about this pack?" I asked wanting to get on the road as soon as possible.
"The pack is led by Alpha Scarlett Blackrose."
"A woman, interesting."
"Yes, a woman that has become synonymous with taking in rogues and hybrids. A feat that is ambitious but admired by some, including me. She says that she will take in any rogue, hybrid or person otherwise that wants to join as long as they have not killed senselessly. She is actually a hybrid herself — werewolf and vampire, along with her Beta, Julian Le Torneau. Her Gamma is new actually, Romain Cavalier. He's only been there for about three weeks, but already shows promise."
"Anything else?"
"Not really. If she wants an alliance with us, I would be more than happy to enter one. Some people are actually scared of rogues and hybrids, but I actually think they are no different from us. We are all creatures trying to live our lives. I believe it would be best if we could do this in harmony. If there is more harmony, maybe we will not lose people like Gavin." My dad finishes sadly. Gavin Peterson was one of Dad's best friends, a warrior who died in an attack by a rival.
"Alright dad, I'll take the message. I'm going to go pack now. I'm sure Sienna is ready to go, and you know how she gets when she is left waiting. You would think with all of us, she would have learned patience by now." I chuckle and my dad just joins in.
Going on an adventure with Sienna Gray. First stop: Blackrose Swamp Pack to deliver a message. Problem: going around the Crimson Edge and Sanguis Silence Pack's territories to get there. No running into Isaiah. No tipping off the packs that we were delivering a message.
Game on.
