Breaking
((Uh, I just wanted to start out by saying sorry for the grammar issues in the last chapter! I typed it on my phone in about 4 hours and it would've been better and done in 3 if Wattpad didn't delete an hour's worth of work 🙃 Anyways, this chapter has a little more fighting in it this time, especially in the beginning so you've been warned! I hope you'll enjoy it!))
--------------------
You thought Roxy was the one to pull the trigger and cause the gun shot to go off, but clearly it was not. If it was her, this demon-er, Dirk, would be dead by now. She had one steller shot and as far as you know, she hasn't missed.
Somehow in the midst of your brain going haywire, your body was already acting out as the barrel of your pistol in your right hand was on his thigh. You didn't know you pulled the trigger until he backed away with a howl of pain, clutching his right leg in agony.
It took you a moment to take in a deep breath, allowing your heart rate to slow down. It made it harder to shoot if your hands were shaky and your breath unsteady. Even if it was Dirk, he was trying to kill you. You had too many people to care about to allow that to happen yet.
But, sadly, you knew if you got a good glimpse of him you would break down again. You couldn't fight him well with your back turned to him, but you could try facing him with your eyes closed.
Did that sound outrageous? Of course it did, but as a demon hunter, you were expected to be able to hunt in the darkest of nights, even if you couldn't see your hands only inches from your face, the job still had to be done. That's the one disadvantage you had to overcome because most of the hunting was done during the night. It was taught at an early age during training, but you could already tell this would be a challenge. He's fast and steps lightly, you would have to completly still and silent.
With a split second decision, you turned to face him, keeping your eyes shut. It probably was a better idea anyways because your glasses were cracked making it just as hard to see.
His curses seemed to stop as soon as he saw you. Then came his laughter. It still sent shivers down your spine, but you shoved that feeling down, allowing yourself to adjust to your surroundings.
"Are you shitting me?" He scoffed out and you heard him move closer causing your grip to tighten on the pistols, "How will this benefit you exactly?"
Good, it's just as you thought. Dirk has forgotten most of his past or even all of it, so he forgot about this training exercise. This hopefully gave you the upper hand for now. You just had to fight to at least get him unconscious. You knew you couldn't kill him yourself yet either. Neither could Roxy. You tapped your finger on the pad once more, sending her out a message to wait by the front of the building for you. She responded quickly with an okay.
Now you could get down to business.
You took in a deep breath and held it so your breathing wouldn't effect your other senses. You even listened to the wind blowing outside to tune your hearing. You didn't have much time though because you heard his light footsteps approaching fast.
You waited until he got close, hearing the blade of his katana cut through the air, you quickly ducked and elbowed him as hard you could in the side. Or at least, you hoped it was his side, but you felt contact on your elbow. That's all that mattered right now. However, upon doing such a move, you left your own back vunrable again which he took advantage of. He hit you hard with the base of his sword right where the two cuts from earlier connected.
Your eyes unwilling snapped open for a split second as pain sourced throughout your body, causing you to whine. You didn't even have to look at him to feel his grin burning into the back of your head. Hitting you in the back also made you fall forward, losing your balance from your previous squatting position when you elbowed him.
He took his chance to stomp on your back once where he just hit with the butt if his sword, causing you to hollar once more. Your refused to lose though, you had a little girl who called you Grandpa waiting at home for you.
When you felt his foot rise up again, you took the chance to kick out his legs, swinging your legs wide because you didn't know exactly where his other leg was placed. You felt your foot make contact with his ankle which was another great success as you also felt that ankle fall back from the contact of your foot.
You quickly got back up and headed over towards him. You could hear him groaning so you had a main idea of where he was even with your eyes closed tight. This time, you stomped down on what you believed was his stomach which earned a loud coughing fit from the demon underneath you. You quickly turned your foot to hit in the direction of his chin, feeling a satisfying crack as you hit him exactly where you wanted to.
The skidding of something on the floor was heard and you were sure it was his ridiculous shades he wore. You're surprised he didn't use those as a weapon sometimes.
Now was clearly not the time to think though because he took his chance to grasp tightly onto your leg, digging his nails into your skin before taking his sword to your calf. You had to give it to him for being smart on where to hit you. It was easy to guard wounds in the front, but all of your major wounds from him where on your back side.
Even as a demon, he was still one of the most clever and fast thinking guys you have ever known.
You tried to wiggle your leg free from his grasp as you tried to move it to stomp on him again, but he seemed to have different plans. He yanked your leg down harshly as he shifted his body out of the way. His hands shifted faster than anything you have ever known while you were in midfall, gripping tightly onto your shoulders to slam your back into the ground. It seemed like this was a game of who could keep the other pinned down the most and keep it that way. You did your best to keep your mouth and eyes shut as the pain coursed through your body once more. You had to bite down hard on your bottom lip to keep the moan of pain from slipping past your lips.
"Look at me." Was all he said with a small pant, taking one if his hands to grip tightly around your throat making you instantly choke on your own breath. Fuck, it really hurt you, it really did.
"I'm afraid I'll spoil my vision even more if I do that." You choked out in response with a sly grin trying to hide away the fear behind it. He didn't seem to like that though as he lifted your neck up a bit and then slammed it back down roughly into the ground, making your brain become all scattered. You had to grit your teeth for that one. Head injuries always seemed to hurt the worst.
"Why won't you look at me," You could hear his voice closer to you now as his breath landed on your face causing a small shudder to course through your body, "You haven't even seen my face yet you already called me revolting. That's not very nice to do, ya know." He said in a taunting tone. You could feel him get closer to you and you knew he was aiming to rip your throat out with his teeth.
Luckily you still had legs that were useable and he was bent over you, or at least you assumed, which hopefully it left you a wide open spot for you to knee him directly in his lower back. You brought your knee up hard and felt satisfied once you felt the collision of a hit once more.
His grip on your neck loosened which gave you a split second to quickly jab the butt of your pistol into his arm. You knew that was going to leave one nasty bruise for him.
You got away with a quick gasp for air, trying to regain yourself as you used the wall for support to help your body up. Even if your body kept telling you to give up, you refused. You couldn't just run away. He would catch up to you in a heart beat and kill you there. You had to at least knock him out to buy yourself enough time to escape. That's all you were aiming for here. It would be much easier if you could hit his head, but you had no idea where his head was.
You heard his now more heavier footsteps which caused you to pull up your pistols quickly as you aimed towards the oncoming footsteps. Or at least, you were. The footsteps just suddenly stopped about a few feet away from you.
You hated Dirk for being so clever because you shortly felt his foot make contact with your head with enough force to knock you out of the window. You had no idea you were standing right in front of one, but now you had to open your eyes.
His face was what you saw as the shards of glass flew around you. His smirk was firmly placed on his face as you felt yourself tumbling down. It was a five story building and you were on the fifth floor.
You were going to die.
That's all that raced through your head as you mentally began to panic. Everything felt so slow as you kept descending.
You didn't know you weren't breathing until you gasped in a deep breath as you felt your ankle being grabbed onto with a firm grip.
Fuck, he wasn't going to let you down easily. He just wanted to shock you enough so you would look at him. That sneaky bastard.
"Ah, there's those eyes I've been searching for." He hummed as he made sure to pull you along the jagged pieces of glass left attached to the window frame. You felt them stick into your legs as they tore your skin apart, making you cry out in pain. He quickly threw you into the room once more as your body felt like a rag doll going from outside to directly onto the opposite wall and the falling limp onto the floor.
When did he get so dammed strong?
You couldn't lose, you refused to. You just couldn't do that. You had responsibility now of many things. This couldn't be it for you even if it felt like your body was dying.
He walked over to you as you quickly tried to get back up, but your limbs seemed to be against your will right now making you curse underneath your breath for them to betray you so suddenly.
"Now," You heard his voice hum as he gripped you tightly by the hair, yanking you up to forcefully stand up, "Let me get a good look at you too before I kill you off."
"N...never." You muttered as your hands limply gripped around his wrist as tightly as you could. All you had to do was knock him out, but it was going to be much harder without your pistols since they fell out of your hands during the window incident earlier. He seemed intrigued by your actions, allowing you to weakly grip onto his wrist.
"Is this seriously all you've got?" You could hear the laughter from his look, even though he wasn't actually laughing, you felt like he would be currently. You took in a deep breath. You needed to think about things to keep you going.
An image of Jade flashed through your mind and that's all you needed for your adrenaline to take control.
Before you knew it, your feet were turning allowing you to turn the both of you so his back was against the wall and your back was pressed against his chest. You didn't know what you were doing exactly, but your grip strengthened on his wrist. He tried to cut at your side with his katana to make you let go, but you kept your mind focused as you used all of your strength to flip him over your back and onto the ground infront of you onto his back. You would defiently would thank Roxy for teaching you that move.
You watched as his eyes widened, letting out a cry of pain himself, dropping his katana during the motion. Your body lunged towards his sword before he could regain focus, quickly hitting him hard in the head with the butt of the sword. Your eyes watched his as they rolled into the back of his head, proving that your plan worked.
Your hand suddenly stung as you looked down, seeing it being cut up from accidentally gripping onto his blade in your hands in your frantic actions to survive. It was worth it though, he was going to kill you.
That thought alone made your heart hurt as it felt like it was being clutched by a hand, but you had to ignore it. You didn't have a long time before he would wake up again.
Man, did you have a story to tell Roxy.
----------------------
A hiss escaped your lips as you felt another stitch go into your back. You kept a smile on though because Jade was sitting infront of you. You didn't want her to see the stitches being done, so she sat on your bed with Bec and you as she fiddled with a toy gun of hers. You might not be forcing her to be a demon hunter, but you still wanted to teach her the basics of using a gun. It could come in handy one day.
"Are you almost done?" You asked over your shoulder to Roxy as she gingerly worked on your stitches.
"Yeah, just about 3 more of these bad boys to go." She hummed as she looked up briefly to smile up at you and you of course returned the gesture. Your small moment was interrupted by you feeling a small dart hit your chest. You looked at Jade to see her looking surprised at Bec. She placed the gun by Bec's side as she gasped.
"Bec! Grandpa is already hurt! Bad doggy!" You never thought you could see a dog so done in your life as he just gave Jade a glare before rolling away from her, knocking her gun off the bed in the process. You couldn't help but snicker as Jade gently patted Bec's head, whispering something into his ear. You plucked the dart off of your chest before sticking it onto her nose once she looked over.
"My my," You clicked your tongue so she would look over back at you, an innocent smile over her face as she shrunk down, "What am I going to do? Punish the dog or his evil sidekick?"
Jade instantly looked offended for being called evil, but most importantly a sidekick.
"I would never be a sidekick, I'm always the mastermind behind things-" Her eyes went wide as a grin spread across your lips. You caught her red handed.
"That's what I thought." You hummed before ruffling up her hair gently. She tried slapping at your hands for doing such a thing but she couldn't help but to let out a giggle. You couldn't help but laugh along with her.
"All done!" Roxy hummed as she patted your shoulders before putting away the supplies.
"Thanks Rox, I owe you one."
She smiled kindly towards you before closing the first aid kit and slipping it back underneath the bed. You haven't had the guts yet to tell her about who exactly attacked you back there. It just didn't settle well in your stomach still, it also felt like it was all a dream. Well, more of a nightmare. Your injuries told you otherwise.
Roxy stood back up and gave you a gentle kiss on the forehead goodnight before going over to Bec and Jade. Jade stood up and wobbled over to her before hugging her arms the best she could around Roxy's neck. Roxy wrapped her arms around the small girl before kissing both of her cheeks then her nose.
"Goodnight goofball." She hummed as Jade smiled wide before plopping back down on the bed, waving her goodnight with a yawn.
Roxy turned the lights off before gently closing the door. You knew you had to tell her about what happened, but it would have to wait.
You pulled the sheets down and allowed Jade to climb underneath them as Bec followed suit, curling up to her as she gripped onto him like a big teddy bear. God, she was adoreable.
"Goodnight my dear." You leaned down to kiss her on the forehead before getting into the bed yourself, laying your arm over the two of them before letting your heavy eyelids slip close. You were dead tired afterall, so it didn't take you long for your mind to slip into a peaceful slumber.
-----------------
His face.
That's all that kept popping into your brain as his sickening smirk began to devour you whole.
You tried to fight back, but your limbs were working against you. All you wanted was to keep on going for those around you, but your heart was weak.
It was weak for him.
You were weak for him.
Nothing else seemed to matter as his eyes seemed to wipe your brain away of any logical thoughts. They shone brighter than you have ever seen before.
They pinned you down to the spot you stood as he slowly walked towards you, his katana out and ready to strike you at any second.
But, that didn't scare you.
If death were to come your way, you would always fight it.
Yet, you were weak for him.
Oh so weak to the point your limbs felt numb along with your thoughts.
The only thing you could feel was your heart beating harshly in your chest. It felt like it was going to burst.
He came face to face with you now as his taunting expression never seemed to change.
You let his hot breath consume you as you felt it on your neck. He was going to bite you, you knew that much still. You weren't going to stop him though.
You felt the sharp pain of his fangs piercing your skin as you could only let out a cry of pain, your whole body shivering as your blood trickled out from the wound.
His hand raised to rest onto your chest, right over your heart.
You could feel his touch burn into your skin.
Your body obeyed his every command even if no words slipped out of his mouth, from that lovely mouth.
You desired so badly to kiss him once more, even if it hurt you. You wanted it so badly.
However, he had different plans.
You let out a scream as you felt him sink his hand into your chest, causing pain to source throughout every nerve in your body.
He ripped out your heart as he grinned down at it before his eyes quickly bore into your own.
He clutched your heart in his hands as your world started to go black.
-------------------
You woke up with a scream escaping your lips. You felt hot tears trail down your face and drip slowly onto the pillow below.
A wet, hot tongue was pressed against your cheek which alarmed you. Your eyes quickly searched for the culprit at hand to only find out it was Bec.
Wait, you only just screamed, how was he already awake?
You squinted your eyes to see Jade having the most terrified expression on her face as she looked at you. She wasn't the only one though.
Roxy, Dave, and John were all standing around your bed as their looks all screamed worry into your face.
You must have screamed quite a bit before the one you woke up with.
Your cheeks heated up from embarssment as you covered your face with your hands, taking in deep breaths to calm down your nerves. You haven't had these kinds of nightmares in such a long time, nor have they ever woken up everyone before.
"Grandpa?" You heard Jade whisper out as she placed her hands ontop of yours. You let your hands move when she pulled them away from your face.
"Ah, I'm sorry.." You muttered as you leaned up to kiss her cheek, "Go back to sleep doll, I'm going to go talk with the others, okay?" She nodded as she hugged Bec the best she could as her eyes were still glued onto you.
You promised yourself to never cry or worry Jade with these kind of things, but it seemed like your body was against you along with your mind.
You sat up and crawled out of the bed, slipping on a loose T-shirt before exiting the room, the others all bidding goodnight to Jade before leaving the room with you.
There was no hiding the truth now, and now you had to tell all of them and not just Roxy.
Some how, you felt Dirk was doing this to you indirectly in some way, just causing all of your promises to be slowly broken and all of your wishes to be turned against you.
Your body felt hot again.
-----------------------
"What?!" Roxy shouted as she almost spilt her tea all over the place after you told them who caused this to happen.
"Yeah...I couldn't believe it at first either." You muttered as you kept your eyes glued to the table, drawing circles into the hickory wood with your finger. You were just trying to keep your tears from spilling right now, so you refused to look up because you knew you would bust out crying again.
"Jake.." Dave sounded choked up as you could see his clenched fists on the table, "Are you positive it was him, like really?" You didn't blame his uncertainty because you seriously wished it was fake.
"Yes..I really wish I was imagining it, I really do. I would rather know that he was resting peacefully and not suffering myself." A sigh escaped your lips as you let your shoulders slip low feeling too weak to even keep yourself up anymore.
Your body was heating up badly.
"Well...do you think that means, well uh, that," John stuttered out, trying to find the right words or just the strength to speak, "Jane is also a demon too?"
You could feel the tension in this room and it was making your head pound.
"It sounds likely." Dave noted, still trying to process the information.
"God, this sucks." Roxy hissed out as she dug her nails into her bare arms, clearly frustrated.
The three continued their conversation as your ears slowly tuned them out, letting their voices mash together.
At this point, your body felt like it was on fire as you could begin to feel Dirk's hand over your heart again.
Your world began to fade to black as you felt your head collide with the table.
All you could wonder with your remaining consciousness was what the hell did Dirk do to you.
You set yourself up for an everlasting hell and your puppetmaster was Dirk, and oddly enough, you smiled at that thought.
You were fucked.

((Hey guys! Sorry I suck at writing fight scenes and I'm also sorry for this chapter not coming out last night. I was working on it but then I just felt like I should check my art supplies for some reason. Guess what happened? My black Indian ink busted all over me 🙃 I spent 4 hours cleaning that shit. Also, I'm going to be slower with coming out with chapters for a while because I have exams next week and my lord, I have so much shit to do from now to then so you may not hear from me for a little over a week just as a heads up! Thank you for reading!))
