Chapter 4
Who was that..? I... I don't know. For some reason, I felt drawn to the voice. I can't explain it, I just... Felt like the rest of me had been restored. As if I remembered the rest of my life. Perhaps it was just a dream, but I guess I'll never know.
〜
I gasped as I opened my eyes. Skittles mewed in annoyance and jumped off my bed. I sighed. "It was just a dream..." I muttered to myself. Looking over to my papers, I sighed. I didn't understand anything on them.
"I'll have to ask the teacher... what are IV's? EV's? Hopefully she can explain it to me."
The Skitty purred as she brushed against my hand, and I absentmindedly scratched her head as her rumbles of content grew louder. My eyes flitted to the clock on my dresser and I sighed.
"It's only 6:00 AM... I still have two hours before school."
I lay down on my bed, accepting the welcoming warmth of Skittles sitting on my stomach. For some reason, she always seemed to like being around me. It's... odd.
〜
Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep. I didn't have any dreams, but that just made me even more curious... I didn't know who was calling to me, but I had a feeling whoever it was, they were important. I woke to my 7:30 alarm, pushing myself up, and getting dressed. Nothing fancy today. I slipped on some dark blue jeans, a purple shirt, and a white cardigan. Mom and dad were both asleep, so I walked out the door without a word, making sure to take care when I put on my necklace. Pulling my hair into a ponytail, I began the walk to school.
〜
"Morning," I said cheerfully to Dustin. He turned to look at me, annoyed.
"What do you want?"
"I was just saying good morning..."
"Then leave me alone, whatever your name is."
I sunk down into my chair silently as I fiddled with my necklace. It seemed like the only thing I could rely on was this jewel I wore.
〜
I sat alone for lunch. I thought it was a miracle when two girls walked towards me, but they just laughed. "Hey everyone, look!" One shouted. "It's the purple haired freak!" I cringed and clutched my necklace. The other girl reached forward and snatched it from me, cackling. "Oh, what could this be?"
"G-Give it back!" I shouted frantically. "It's important to me!"
"How do you know what's important?"
"Yeah! You shouldn't even remember it!"
"You shouldn't remember anything!"
"Just forget about it!"
The jeers of the other kids reduced me to tears. I didn't understand how they knew I had amnesia, but I guessed the teacher must have told them so they would be nice to me. As I reached out to grab the jewel, my eyes were closed, and I didn't see the blast of energy that pushed away the two girls, returning the necklace to my hands. The schoolgirls shrieked and ran away. The other kids stared at me in silence.
"W-What? W-What's so-" I stopped when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up to see his dark hair and piercing green eyes.
"Hey," he said uncertainly. I stared at him. "Are you alright?" I tried to nod, but tears were still slipping out of my eyes. "Come on. Let's get away from these jerks."
"T-Thanks... I'm Dream." He stared at me with a weird expression when I said my name, but made no comment. I stood and allowed him to guide me through the empty hallways until we reached a dead end. Then he turned with a malicious smile, eyes gleaming.
"So, Cresselia...
Come back to defeat me?"
