Adieu
Me and Balthazar rode to where Romeo was, I assumed that Romeo knew of our plan. But what happened later, my assumptions were wrong. We rode together no questions asked, pure silence. When we got outside of the crypt, we got off our horses, Romeo walked to his servant.
"Balthazar, thou art a good man, so young, so courageous, becoming wise beyond thou years."
Romeo placed his hand on the back of Balthazar's head.
"Thy served us all well, Adieu my friend. Go back home, make haste."
Balthazar got back on his horse and rode back to the Montague house.
"Eglantine...oh my sweet Egg."
"Romeo, what is this you talk of?" I asked.
"Thine goodbyes. I only known of thy existence a week the very least, from a traveling swordsmaid to a sister."
He placed his hand on my cheek.
"Egg...I'll never forget you."
"Romeo...why tis that you speak like we'll never speak again?"
"I believe you know Egg."
I gave him a big hug.
"We'll see each other again Romeo."
"We will...soon...maybe very soon."
"Romeo, I quiver with worry for thou."
He smiled warmly as we let go.
"Thy mustn't worry for me, you live your life with Benvolio and the rest of my family, thou new family. I always knew you were with Montague since we first met."
"Thou'll be back here soon enough, I dreamt of rejoice and forgiveness Romeo."
Romeo was speechless for a few seconds but a horse rode towards us, a new face to me.
"Count Paris," Romeo said.
Count Paris got down from his horse.
"Romeo, thou art exiled!"
"We'll just be a moment," I said.
He turned to me.
"If it isn't the swordsmaiden whom resides here in Verona from Venice, I think you should go back to where you came from."
"You dare underestimate me?"
Count Paris smirked, I unsheathed my sword.
"Eglantine!" Romeo said.
"Romeo, go forth down there, I've got a matter to attend to."
"But Egg-"
"Romeo please...go forth to Juliet, go to your lady!"
He hesitated but he ran in. Count Paris unsheathes his sword and chuckled.
"I don't care if thou a woman, you will be cut like meat. I am blood to the prince."
"Is that so Count?"
"Don't worry, thine intentions is to build up fear inside you so you won't show your face here again."
"I am of marriage to a Montague, Verona is my home!"
We started clanging swords.
Romeo was with Juliet while I fought Count Paris, the man who intended to wife Juliet against her will.
I defeated him after some time, I slew Count Paris. As I gazed upon the fresh corpse as Friar Laurence ran to me, he froze as he saw the body.
"Eglantine, what happened?"
"My shells are cracked once again Friar."
"Whatever tis you mean?"
"The nickname Egg given by my friends, holds a place in my heart."
"The answer to my first question Eglantine, you slew Count Paris, relation by blood to the prince, punishment is possible!"
"He tried to stop Romeo from going in, tried to put my shells back together, I refused to let him. He was more than happy to kill me but hid it as we fought. I have the blood of a man who intended to have his way with an innocent little girl on my sword. Twas nor my fault Friar."
He bowed his head.
"Did I do the right thing?"
He nodded.
"Come Eglantine, the young lord and lady await us."
We went in the crypt. As we got to Juliet's tomb, I noticed her left hand was outstretched. I walked to the left side to find Romeo on the ground.
"Romeo?"
Me and Friar Laurence went around the pillars to Romeo.
"Romeo?"
The friar firmly shook him, his eyes didn't open. I noticed a bottle in his hand, I knew it was poison! Romeo was dead!
"Romeo no!"
Me and Friar Laurence both sobbed.
"He was like a son to me!" The friar sobbed.
He repeated it a few more times before we started sobbing even more.
Juliet refused to come with us, Friar decided to let us stay with Romeo.
"Juliet...no!"
I sobbed even harder when Juliet stabbed herself with Romeo's dagger. My sobs softened as I started speaking.
"Romeo, thy should've waited a few more minutes, thy would've seen your lady Juliet awake. We would've all went forth with our plan, rejoice and happiness. Where did thy get the bottle of poison Romeo? I thought you knew of all this...I thought you knew. The adieus were genuine to me and Balthazar. But now, we'll see each other soon. When? I don't know; I won't commit the same act you both have. I maybe executed or exiled, I have slew...I have slew a man! But I'm not certain whether or not the prince will hear thine testimony. Oh I dread what the future of us all hold! Will there be a plague on both our houses like Mercutio said, will my dream of forgiveness become a reality!?"
I heard the noises of people shouting.
"I will see to them, I have found both of you dead in arms."
I stroked Romeo's hair.
"Romeo, thou art brave and kind, the only time I saw you mad was when Mercutio's blood was spilled. I will never forget your gentle voice calling me Egg."
I stroked Juliet's hair.
"Juliet, thou art kind and innocent, we spoke rarely but after living here for a short while, you have become a sister to me like your lord Romeo became my brother. I will never forget your bright eyes when you smile.
I stood up wiping my tears.
"I will never forget you both...adieu."
I ran out of the crypt and stated I found them.
Their funeral was the very next morning.
Right after the funeral, I decided to visit the Capulets, I was led by Peter to them, they were in the living area mourning the loss of their daughter for real this time.
"Lady Eglantine is here to converse," Peter said.
"Send her in," I heard Lord Capulet say.
I sat across from them. All was silent for half a minute but seemed like an eternity.
"How art thou?" Lady Capulet broke the silence.
"In mourning for both Romeo and Juliet...all because of a ridiculous feud."
She sighed.
"Thou art right Eglantine..."
I froze.
"What?"
"Thy heard what I said, we wish to stop this feud, make peace with the Montagues. When we all go back from the funeral, we spoke of your speech last time we spoke, we realize now."
"I can't believe my ears this moment, you're wanting to change tradition?"
They nodded.
"Tis what we all want, forgiveness...rejoice," Lord Capulet said.
"And we thank you for this epiphany young swordsmaiden."
I stood up and held out my hand, they looked up at me, stood up, and shook it.
"I will speak of thou epiphany to the Montagues and we'll make peace."
I left the house.
I walked in on my new family in the dining room.
"Am I late for something your lord and ladyship...Benvolio...Balthazar?"
"No of course not Eglantine...we were just serving lunch as you walked in," Lady Montague said.
"Join us darling," Benvolio said.
I took a seat by my husband.
"I have spoken with the Capulets."
They all looked at me.
"They have agree to put this feud to an end...we'll make peace...and in Mercutio's words: 'Go forth and rejoice!"
"We have agreed too," Lord Montague said.
I turned to Benvolio, I saw him smiling, I held his hand and kissed it.
"Eat your food you two," Lord Montague said sternly.
We chuckled and ate our lunch.
Both the houses made peace for the sake of the prince, we were finally getting along, if only Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, and Tybalt were alive to see it.
