Chapter 17
Amanda
"No way," Hailey said, "Please help my dying eyes by taking off that horrible outfit." She had already changed for the party and was wearing a cute short dress with high heels, her rainbow hair in a tight ponytail. She was waiting for me to get ready so she could then do our makeup.
"What's wrong with it?" I asked looking down at my outfit.
"Everything."
Hailey was sitting with Riley and Pilar on her bed. Clothes were thrown everywhere and I was standing in the middle of the mess, jeans and a simple shirt on.
"What do you guys think?" I turned to Riley and Pilar.
"Meh," Riley said. She was wearing a spaghetti-strapped black top with jean shorts and sneakers. She was doing her makeup, applying her mascara carefully, her blue short hair held back into a bun on top of her head.
"A ver, querida," Pilar replied, "This is a party we are talking about, y yendo así va a arruinar toda la onda de la fiesta." She was wearing a long black jumpsuit with matching sandals, her blond hair falling in big curls around her shoulders. She was not wearing makeup because she didn't need it, she was really lucky to be that beautiful without even trying.
I looked at her confusingly, not really getting what she said. Pilar came from Spain as an exchange student, we shared a lot of classes together, so I decided to help her out. We became friends in less than five minutes.
"Going like that will ruin all the party," Riley translated.
"Oh," I said, "What should I put on then?" Pilar looked at Hailey, who looked back at her and then looked at Riley, who then looked back at Hailey and finally at Pilar.
"What are you planning?" I asked narrowing my eyes and looking suspiciously at the three of them. They smiled at the same time.
"Tenemos algo perfecto para ti," Pilar said and then the three of them jumped at me, throwing clothes at me and forcing me to change into them.
I was rushed into the bathroom and told to put on the outfit they had planned for me. I agreed reluctantly and changed as quickly as I could, knowing I would regret it the moment I saw myself in the mirror. The weird thing is, I loved the outfit my friends had picked out for me. I was dressed in Hailey's clothes from head to toe, but I didn't really care. I was wearing a tight, black mini skirt with a neon-pink, tube crop top, which showed off my tanned stomach.
"Perfect!" Hailey said, "Now put these on." She handed me a pair of thigh high black boots. I fell in love with the boots as soon as I saw them.
"Slay!" Riley said, "You're welcome."
"Thanks, guys!" I moved on to do my makeup. Hailey applied a small amount of mascara and eye shadow. She used pink lipstick and I let my hair fall down onto my waist.
"You guys ready?" Pilar asked.
"Yeah," Riley said putting on a simple, black, see-through sweater. Hailey already had on her white jacket as I looked around her closet for a cute outerwear that would go with my outfit.
"Use mine," she said, handing me her black leather jacket. Oh my god. A leather jacket? Really?
"I don't think so," I handed it back to her, but she pushed it back at me.
"Ponte la campera," she insisted furiously.
"Fine," I said. I took the jacket from her and shrugged it on as she pulled on a floral chiffon kimono.
"I'm calling an uber," Riley said.

Everyone was jumping up and down to the rhythm of the electronic music blasting from the huge speakers next to the DJ. The room smelled of sweat, alcohol, and cigarettes. Before I knew what was happening, Pilar had pulled me onto the dance floor and I was jumping like everybody else. When the beat dropped, it all went crazy. People shouted, screamed, danced and cheered. I put my hands up in the air and tried to dance the best I could with my boots on.
After a while of jumping and dancing, Pilar and I joined Hailey and Riley near the drinks table, both of them already had bottles in their hands and were chatting animatedly. We both grabbed a pair of bottles like theirs and sipped slowly.
"Oh my god, you guys!" Pilar shouted over the music, "You should totally come to the dance floor with us, está increíble!"
"Yeah!" I shouted in between breaths, "It's crazy, you should totally come!" They looked at each other and nodded, letting themselves being dragged along by Pilar and me. Taking our drinks with us, we disappeared into the crowd and then started dancing.
I lost the three of them in the middle of a song, so I decided to go back to the drinks table and see if they were somewhere in sight. I put down my bottle and grabbed a new one when I arrived, seeing none of my friends I continued searching for them. I went outside where people were dancing to the music coming from inside around the huge pool in the middle of the backyard.
Finding no one, I went to sit down on the edge of the pool, as far away as I could from possible people that could push me inside without warning. Drinking silently from the bottle in my hand, I watched couples dance and shout the lyrics to some of the songs. I took off my boots, tired of them already, and hid them behind some bushes to stop people from stealing them. I let my feet fall into the fresh water, letting the small waves sway my legs to a continuous rhythm. As I was sipping from my beer, someone sat down next to me and placed his feet right next to mine. I turned my head to look at him and found Jack grinning at me.
"Hey!" he said.
"Hi!" I replied.
"You look beautiful." He smiled at my outfit.
"Thanks." I blushed. His blond hair was a huge mess and his brown eyes were staring at my white ones. I grinned, knowing that the alcohol was starting to take over my body. Jack had a bottle like mine in his hand. He grinned back at me, with the same stupidity as I had. I didn't really like drinking, but I couldn't help having a drink or two sometimes.
"What are you doing out here?" Jack asked.
"I kinda lost my friends," I replied.
"That sucks," he said, "I lost mine too."
"Guess we are the lost ones," I said, and lifted my bottle into the air, "To the lost ones."
"To the lost ones," he repeated and we clinked our bottles together laughing. We sat in silence for a while, music still pouring out from the house as teenagers danced and danced, without a care in the world. From the corner of my eye, I could see Jack inching closer to me, my bare feet dangling next to his in the brightly lit water. I turned to face him, and before I could even react, Jack had his free hand on my waist and his lips were against mine. The kiss was short and sweet, even though I could taste the beer we both had been drinking in it. When he pulled away, the alcohol took control of my body again and made me smile like an idiot.
Suddenly, two guys out of nowhere came over to us and grabbed Jack taking his legs out of the water, one had his hands underneath his armpits and the other on his feet. Jack dropped his bottle as he was taken by surprise.
"Phone? Wallet?" one of the guys asked and Jack shook his head, "Great!" They both swayed him back and forth. When they neared the pool, they let him go. Jack crashed into the water sending a million drops flying into the air and splashing me in the process. Everybody shouted as soon as Jack emerged. I laughed, standing up, as he swam over to where I was standing and held his hand out.
"Would you be nice enough to help me out?" he asked. Knowing it was a trick, I grabbed his hand anyway, but as he started to pull me down I let go and he fell backward without me. I laughed harder at him before someone ran into me and pushed me from behind. I went tumbling into the cold water, falling right onto Jack. I held my breath as my head went under water and closed my eyes. After a few seconds, I emerged into the surface, my hair floating around me like a lily pad on a pond. Jack emerged right after me, chuckling.
"It's not funny," I said, splashing him with a small wave of water with my hand, "Who pushed me anyway?" I turned around to look for the explanation of me being in the pool, but before I could even see, people started jumping into the water. Everyone started climbing onto shoulders, readying themselves.
"Piggyback fight!" someone shouted from somewhere in the pool. I suddenly rose out of the surface of the water, and as I looked down to see Jack's arms around my legs another couple pushed us, making us fight them.
After a few fights, I started feeling cold, so I let myself fall into the water and swam towards the edge, telling Jack I was heading inside. I pulled myself up and decided I should find Pilar, Riley and Hailey, knowing they must be looking for me. But, to my surprise, they were also inside the pool, fighting on top of the shoulders of one another. I grabbed my boots from behind the bush and went inside, leaving Pilar's leather jacket next to her bag on my way to the front yard. I was starting to shiver, so I called Tyler to come and pick me up. It was almost 3 am, but I was getting tired and didn't feel like continuing to party. I sat down on the grass and waited.
"Hey," I heard a familiar voice say. Noah fell down next to me and crossed his legs. I had my arms around myself, my lower and upper teeth clanging against each other.
"Hi," I replied, and continued to shake, "I didn't know you were here."
"How is a party a party without me in it?" he explained.
"You are drunk" I stated, noticing the way he waved his arms around like crazy.
"You are drunk too," Noah grinned.
"I never said I wasn't," I said, "Sorry if I say something embarrassing or stupid, the alcohol is still fresh inside of me."
"What's something new and stupid you could say?" he asked, "You already do that on a daily basis." I punched him in the shoulder playfully and he chuckled.
"Whatever." I gripped myself again, trying to send some heat into my body as I started to shiver. My hair had stopped dripping water, but my clothes were still soaking wet. Noah shrugged off his leather jacket and handed it to me.
"Put it on," he said, "At least I didn't get thrown into a freezing pool." I just stared at his hand with the jacket in it. What's with leather jackets and me today?
"Thanks," I said and took his jacket, wrapping myself in it, "You do know that sometimes you're kind of sweet, right?" He choked and then coughed.
"And there she goes with the embarrassing things," Noah said before adding, "I pushed you into the pool." I punched his shoulder again as we both fell into complete laughter
