Chapter 1
Noah
Parked the motorcycle, took the helmet off and I'm back to reality. Senior year, finally. If I end up with good grades, then I'll be free to go away from this place and live the life I wanted from the start.
Running a hand through my messy hair, I made my way towards the school. The familiar faces met mine, the girls staring at me, the guys giving me jealousy looks, the teachers just frowning. I threw open the door to my locker and placed everything inside, and by everything I mean a bunch of notebooks and pencils.
"Hey Noah!" a high pitched voice shouted. I sighed and turned around to face Aubrey.
She came running over to me, like a schoolgirl, her blond curls bouncing with each step and her big, blue eyes fixed on mine. She was wearing Hillview's High blue and white cheerleader outfit. I checked her out, pretending to be interested in her curves.
"Hey," I said when she was standing in front of me.
"I haven't seen you since last year, I thought you were gonna call me," Aubrey said, looking disappointed.
"I was too busy," I replied emotionless, reality was that I was not interested.
"Well, now that we can see each other again, what about you come over to my place tonight?" she moved her lips towards mine, but I stopped her right there.
"Get this inside of your head," I said firmly before doing air quotations, "It was a one time thing, 'we' is never gonna happen. I'm not interested."
"But-" she started, although I was already walking away from her.
People are stupid. Thinking that after a kiss with someone, they are already boyfriend and girlfriend or whatever. Aubrey was that kind of person. A total bitch who thought that could get anyone she wanted by just swinging her hips and smiling at them. But that was not gonna work on me. It's her problem that she thought we were a thing after we slept together. As long as she never talks to me again, that's fine by me.
The bell rang. I glanced at the door leading outside and at the door leading into my first class, wondering if I should just skip and have a ride on my motorcycle. I remembered the deal, good grades and then I was free. I groaned and walked over to the dreaded classroom, cursing under my breath.
I walked inside to find everyone already sitting down. The only place left was next to a brunette with pink stripes on her hair who was sitting at the very back of the classroom. Well, here goes nothing. I stepped silently towards the girl and realized she was wearing headphones. Thank god, no conversation was needed. I sat down next to her, but I don't really think she noticed me.
The teacher walked in, introduced himself and started the class. The girl took off her headphones and turned my way to put them away in her backpack, she jumped and stared at me surprised.
"When did you even get here?" she asked after recovering from the jump, her voice deep and confident.
"A few minutes ago, but you were too deep into your music," I replied.
"Sorry, I guess," she apologized. Now that she was looking at me, I studied her face. She had big, white eyes and really good-shaped eyebrows. Her left nostril was holding a small, silver stud and her lips were showing a deep, crimson color. Her ears had over eight piercings each, hanging from them were lots of hoops of different types. She smiled at me, making her dimples show sharply. Her makeup highlighted her eyes but making it look natural. She was wearing a black cropped top and a pair of black, ripped jeans, the clothes hugging her body in all the perfect places. Her feet were covered with a pair of converse and a jacket was hanging from her chair.
"You done checking me out?" she said trying to contain the laughter, her strong perfume getting inside my lungs as I breathed.
"Yeah," I replied, "Noah."
"What?" she asked.
"My name's Noah," I repeated, wanting to hear more of her beautiful voice, "What's yours?"
"The name's Amanda," she introduced herself, "Nice to meet you."
"I've never seen you before," I told her, "You new or something?"
"Actually yes," Amanda replied, "I transferred from California."
"That's a long way from here."
"Yeah, but it's alright," she said, "I get to see my bitch."
"Best friend?" I asked, not really understanding her concept.
"Yeah, best friend, but we say 'bitch', it's kind of our thing."
"You two in the back, stop with the chit chat!" the teacher shouted at us.
"Sorry, Mr. Smith," I answered as he gave us his back once more and continued with the History lesson.
"He looks like a monkey," Amanda said after a while.
"Yeah, he does," I chuckled. She smiled at me, showing me her dimples once more.
"So, what are you gonna be studying?" I asked her.
"I'm gonna give a shot at UCLA," she replied.
"Sports?"
"Yeah, gymnastics actually," she said proudly, "What about you?"
"Ditching college to go away to live life."
"That's cool, but why don't you ditch high school too?" she asked.
"Gotta have good grades by the end of this year," I explained, "If not, goodbye life, hello juvie."
"What for?"
"Drugs," I replied, "I stopped now, but I used to sell them."
"I see I'm sitting next to a criminal," she said.
"Yep, be careful, I may have a gun in my bag," I warned her playfully.
"Meh, who cares? We're all gonna die sooner or later," Amanda replied as she tugged at one of her pink stripes and glancing at the blackboard.
I turned my eyes away from her head and looked down at her tanned skin. An enormous, violet bruise was covering a part of her arm.
"What happened to you?" I asked her.
"What? Oh!" she looked down at her arm too and placed her hand on top of the bruise, "I fell the other day pretty hard."
"That must have been a very hard fall," I replied.
She put on her jacket and just stared at nothing in particular. Her white orbs that had been full of laughter, were now glancing around nervously. Guess I'm not good at conversation. The class ended five minutes later.
"These will be your places for the rest of the year," Mr. Smith announced.
"Guess I'll see y-" I stopped right in the middle of the sentence because Amanda was gone. A faint trace of her perfume clung to the air. I shrugged, got my bag and walked out of the classroom.

"Noah!" someone shouted behind me, "How are you, man?"
I turned around to look at Jack. He was one of my only friends. I don't trust him enough for him to be my 'best friend' but I do trust him enough for him to be my friend.
We were total opposites. He has blond hair and I have black hair, he has brown eyes and I have blue eyes. I'm taller and stronger, while he's shorter and weaker.
"Good," I replied.
"Have you seen the new girl?" he asked me, "I'm totally asking her out."
It had been two days since the last time I saw Amanda, she had been absent to History this morning.
"Yeah, we sit next to each other in Smith's class," I said.
"Already have your eye on her?" he smirked at me.
"No," I said, "You can ask her out if you want."
"Cool, maybe I'll ask her out tomorrow," Jack said, after a pause, he told me, "We're heading over to the diner, wanna come with us?"
"No thanks, you know I don't like to go in groups," I told him.
"Come on, Noah," he insisted, "I'm sure you'll like Caleb and Alex."
"Not happening," I said as I started to walk towards my motorcycle.
"When are you gonna get social?" he asked me.
"Never," I replied.
"This is the last time I'm letting you not come with us," Jack said, "Next time, you're being dragged into it, like it or not."
"Whatever, Jack." I slipped on my helmet.
"Noah?" a girl's voice stopped me dead on my tracks, "You drive a motorcycle?"
"Hey Amanda," I said, turning around, "You left History class fast, I never saw you after that."
"Sorry about that, I guess I kind of skipped today's class, I wasn't feeling well," she apologized, "I came over to ask you for a ride since my bitch decided to ditch me for some guy and leave me at the school alone." Jack gave a loud, fake cough.
"Um, sorry," I said, "Amanda this is Jack, Jack this is Amanda."
"Nice to meet you, Amanda," he said smiling.
"Same," she replied, "Anyway, I really need a drive."
I chuckled. I loved to see how Amanda left Jack on seen after exchanging a word with him.
"You can come with me, I've got an extra helmet," I said.
"Cool, thanks," she said. Jack looked at me wide-eyed. I knew what he was thinking.
"See ya tomorrow, man," I said smirking at him.
"Bye", Amanda said, as she placed her arms around my waist and I started the motorcycle.
As soon as we grabbed some speed, her grip tightened.
"Are you scared?" I shouted over the noise.
"Not at all," she shouted back, "Want proof?" I felt her hands leave my waist.
"Woohoo!!!" she screamed. Through my rear view mirror, I saw her with her hands up high above her head.
"Oh my god!" she said snaking her hands around my waist once more,
"That was the most embarrassing and scary thing I've ever done apart from gymnastics!"
I chuckled. Her grip tightened once more as we gained speed.
