20- Kokosara: Through letters

It was a big day; lines formed, food was harvested, stands were built. The day of the competition was coming near. The most beautiful people in all of Inazuma would compete in the modeling competition for a prize of mora. But this competition was different to all others, as the ones competing were nice to each other, helped each other out and hung out before the competition.

The Vision Hunt Decree had stopped the competition, for the war needed supplies and all the help it could get. But a couple of months later, the competition was announced to begin once more. Many people were excited, they all were looking forward to see elegant outfits, delicious food, detailed stands and discounts on many items.

All the islands in this competition have a single winner, the prize, a hefty amount if mora.

"Your Excellency, you should join the competition this year," Gorou encouraged.

"I am quite busy this weekend. I am planning on ridding the treasure hoarders on the east side of our island," Kokomi declined respectfully.

"But, your Excellency, our soldiers already took them out yesterday.." Gorou said with a confused look.

"My energy is lacking today as well, so I would like to finish my work before I run out," Kokomi said, scratching her signature on a paper.

"Your Excellency, all you have to do is walk on a stage and then leave," Gorou said.

"I also need to fill out all this paperwork," Kokomi said.

"Actually, I read through that already and you just have to sign in two spots, I can summarize the paper if needed," Gorou said.

Kokomi froze in place, that had been her last excuse. Kokomi was never one to compete unless it was urgent, like in a war. The main thing that was wrong with this was the fact that this competition was just for fun and she certainly had more important things to deal with, right?

"The money gained would be nice for repairs from the war," Gorou reasoned, "the amount of mora we need to recover from war is a huge amount, this could help us get closer to our goal,"

"I will think about it, General Gorou. I will give my opinion on the matter tomorrow. You are dismissed," Kokomi said.

Once Gorou left, Kokomi let out a sigh. There were considerate amounts of pros and little cons to the situation -the only con being that she didn't want to go- the decision didn't need much thinking- even a toddler could figure the best choice. Kokomi wrote in her journal 'thinking about attending the event in two days -1 energy' she sighed, then her eyes widened at the sudden realisation.

"Watatsumi is hosting this year's competition!" Kokomi said to her own horror.

'Oncoming paperwork, thoughts of hosting, preparing a speech -7 energy'

...

"You HAVE to join, you know that the only good opinion comes from the one and only Itto!" Itto screamed in Kujou Sara's face.

"Oh my Raiden. Shut. Up." She growled.

"Okay, okay, but you miiiight get the necessary moraaa for your thingie. At least... That's what Kuki said, and she won't join! I just want ONE FRIEND to join the competition so I can root for someone, and Miss Hina can't join either!" The Oni exclaimed.

"I'm not your friend," Sara said, shooing him away.

"BUT-" Itto started.

"No." Sara interrupted.

"I heard that Kokomi might join and I know you like-" Itto said.

"Itto, go away!" Sara yelled.

"Okay..." Itto said sadly.

"Go already, I have a job to do. Unlike you," Sara turned her gaze from Itto to her paperwork and continued working.

"Itto said that I would get mora, and I do need that for the most recent project for helping the poor... And Kokomi..." Sara mumbled.

"I guess I'll join," She decided.

...

A line was formed for joining the competition.

"A beauty competition? Maybe Ei will see this... I guess I'll join,"

"Omigod, I need to join, I'm just sooo pretty, I'll blow everyone awaaaaaaaaaaaaay,"

"I can't believe my mom forced me into this, ugh,"

"Everyone!" Kokomi interrupted the chatter.

But no one had heard her soft voice over the noise, so she tried again.

"ATTENTION PLEASE!" She shouted.

Still nothing.

"SHUT UP!" A random voice shouted.

Everyone quieted down.

"Ehem, thank you. I am Sangonomiya Kokomi, the Divine Priestess of Watatsumi island," Kokomi started her memorized speech.

"Last time this competition was held on Narukami island, and now it takes place here on Watatsumi island. Each island will have a winner, the winners will gain mora and hang out with each other at every island, buying souvenirs, food and drinks with the mora they earned," Kokomi said.

"There are six islands and six lines. At the top of each stand is says the name of an island, go to the sign where you are from and sign up, there is a small entry fee to pay afterward," Kokomi explained.

Everyone gets signed up quite quickly as quiet chatter consumes the area.

"Oh my gosh, I love that outfit," Someone complimented.

"Thanks, I got it from Inazuma City," Was the response.

"I need to get one soon," The first person said.

"Me too, maybe we can all get matching pairs!" A third person said.

There were many groups of friends that were joining the competition against each other for fun and many others that were there to make friends. People joined random friend groups that had a similarity, others stayed with the people they already knew while some introverts forced to join by relatives just stayed by themselves.

"Kujou Sara, I did not expect you to participate in this event," Kokomi said upon seeing the woman.

"Oh, Divine Priestess, I would not expect to see you join either," Sara said.

"I would just like to know if we are still enemies, as we were on opposing sides of the war. If you think of us enemies, I would like to offer that we could be friends," Kokomi said with a smile.

"I already thought of you as an acquaintance, but if you would rather title our relationship as 'friends', you may do so," Sara said.

She thought I was her acquaintance? I thought she would see me as her enemy forever. Wait- she said that we can be friends... Why is my face heating up?

"You don't have to be so serious around me, there shouldn't be any reason to be," Kokomi interrupted her own thoughts.

"You are the Divine Priestess, I must show respect to you and your hard-owned title," Sara responded.

"But now that we're friends, you can call me Kokomi," Kokomi reasoned.

"Well then, farewell Kokomi," Sara excused herself from their conversation.

"I knew I asked her to call me Kokomi... But the way she said my name..." Kokomi whispered to herself.

"I bet this is another squish! I must want to be her friend and hang out with her really badly," Kokomi reasoned with herself, "oh who am I kidding? I probably want to be her best friend,"

...

The competition was quick and entertaining, a crowd formed to watch the competition or to buy food at a cheap prize. It looked like a festival in Watasumi, the giants seashells in the center of the island were filled with delicious food and drinks, souvenirs and clothes. The competitor would walk along a part of the festival, twirl or do any other action and be judged by three judges.

It didn't take too long for everyone to have gone through the competition and soon, the winners were announced by island, Watatsumi the first to be announced for it was the one hosting.

The winners from each island were as such;

Watatsumi Island: Komaki

Kannazuka: Takashi

Yashiori Island: Manguu Kenki

Narukami Island: Yae Miko

Seirai Island: Neko

Tsurumi Island: Ipe

Kokomi's face fell when she didn't win, but she also realised that Kujou Sara didn't win either. So Kokomi, trying to be the best best friend she could be, found the tall woman to talk to her about the competition being fun and that it wasn't a big deal.

"Kokomi," A voice interrupted her thoughts.

"Kujou Sara, I was looking for you," Kokomi said, "I saw that you didn't win in the competition- I was surprised about that,"

"No need to flatter me, I was against the Miko of the great Narukami Shrine, I hadn't realised she had come to compete," Sara said with no emotion whatsoever.

"But you were quite close to winning the Watatsumi part, I don't think that Komaki deserved the win when you were the one competing against her," Sara added.

"O-oh, thank you, you did very well yourself," Kokomi felt blush creeping onto her face.

"You.. Already said that," Sara looked at Kokomi with a confused look.

"Did I? Uhm, I'm not feeling so well, I feel a little sick," Kokomi said, trying to find an excuse to leave the area.

Wait, why do I want to leave the area? I want to hang out more with Kujou Sara! I'm confusing myself again, I should stop doing that.

"Are you? Well I'll escort you to a medical station," Sara said.

"No no, I'm fine, I'm not too sick, I just need to take a nap," Kokomi said.

"I see. If you need assistance, just call my name," Sara said with a small smile of reassurance.

"Okay," Kokomi said.

The Divine Priestess walked off, trying to go as quickly as possible without seeming like she was running away from her newest friend. Once Kokomi was inside her palace, she face-planted into her pillow.

"She's such a cool person sometimes, I hope we can keep being friends, even when I'm like this," She said, talking to herself.

"And who are you talking about?" A voice asked.

"U-uhm, don't scare me like that!" Kokomi said as she threw her pillow at Gorou.

"Hey! Don't throw things at me! I heard squealing and throught it was someone struggling or being kidnapped so I ran over, turns out that Her Exelency is fine, and with a new friend," Gorou reported.

"You did a good job making sure I was okay, but you are now dismissed," Kokomi said.

"But who's your new friend?" Gorou asks.

"That is of my own business," Kokomi started walking over to her pillow, picking it up, "I suggest you leave, unless you want to be hit with another pillow, that is,"

"Okay, okay, I'm leaving," Gorou laughed, exiting the room.

I guess I should meet with Sara tomorrow, the competition is mainly to make friends, after all.

...

There was once again a crowd with many stands and a lot of noise, but Kokomi was determined to find her new friend and hang out with her, possibly show her around the island and show off her pet, He. It wouldn't be too hard to find Sara, for she was a tall, pretty woman with a bright red mask on her head, complementing her dark, silky hair.

Once the short woman saw the other, she instantly began to smile. She wanted to be best friends with this woman, and was excited for it. Kokomi begins to meneuver over to her.

A tap on the shoulder is all it takes to capture the electro woman's attention.

"Divine Priestess, I wouldn't expect you to still want to come near me." Sara said.

Disbelief filled Kokomi's face.

"Of course I would! Friends hang out with each other. And- and what did I say about calling me Divine Priestess? You may call me Kokomi," Kokomi reminded.

"Sorry, I must've forgotten, I took an all-nighter to complete work last night," Sara said.

"An all-nighter? You know that can make you even more exhausted, and when you take a nap, you'll have even more work than before," Kokomi said, from a lot of experience.

"I know, I just have a lot of work to clear up around vision hunt decree, even if it's been months since the event. The work also may expire," Sara explained.

"Oh, I also had the same type of paper work. I just asked my soldiers to do the physical work like delivering goods and defeating monsters and then General Gorou forcefully took a stack of papers from my desk to do it himself," Kokomi said.

"Itto once did that... It took me ten times longer to do the assignment afterward.." Sara sighed.

"Oh, I guess our Geo friends are good ones, trying to help our work over-load," Kokomi said, a smile forming at the thought of her friend.

"Itto and I aren't friends though. The only friend I have is you," Sara corrected.

"O-oh, yes, about that. Would you like to walk around the island with me? This competition is more of an event to make friends than to make mora," Kokomi reminded her.

"It would be a little nice to walk around and study the island," Sara said.

"Let's go then, I'll lead you through the island," Kokomi gestured with her hand to follow her.

The two walk around with no destination in mind, Kokomi secretly wanting to show off how much she knew about the island. The Priestess discussed most history, what happened, how, who, when and why, and Sara seemed interested, making Kokomi smile the whole time.

"Now then Kujou, would you like to visit the being I trained with?" Kokomi asked as they walk.

"Being you trained with?" Sara questioned.

"Yes, some of the soldiers even started calling in my pet," Kokomi giggled.

"Your 'pet'?" Sara asked.

"A Hydro Hypostasis named He," Kokomi said.

"A Hypostasis is your pet?" Sara asked, confused yet amazed.

"Well, that's what the soldiers say, we are merely friends," Kokomi confirmed.

"To tame such a thing... You sure are an interesting person," Sara then paused, "are you even a person? I heard your soldiers calling you a fish,"

"W-what, A fish!? I am 100% human," Kokomi informed.

"Shall I go silence those betrayers?" Sara summoned her bow and took it in her hands.

"That's not necessary, Kujou," Kokomi said, grabbing Sara's arm to stop her from running away.

"If you say so," Sara tossed her bow aside, it disappeared in yellow sparks.

"Did you just listen to me with no hesitation?" Kokomi asked, eyes wide.

"That's what friends are supposed do do, no?" Sara asked.

"Yes... But the situation ended so quickly, no wonder you're such a good soldier," Kokomi chirped.

The compliment seemed to take Sara by a surprise.

"I am merely doing my job..." Sara turned her head away, hiding her face.

"Oh! Speaking of jobs, a beach just near here was just recently cleared by treasure hoarders. No one except for the soldiers know about the location being cleared. Would you like to work there together with the scenery?" Kokomi asked.

"Work outside..?" Sara asked, perplexed by the offer.

"Yes, I sometimes work near water, I feel calm near it. But always remember to stay far away from the water, I lost many papers to it, even with the ability to take the water from the paper," Kokomi explained, going under a natural arc of rock.

"It seems quite calm, I will make sure to try it sometime," Sara said.

"Okay, but today, we're here to relax. Ahh, I haven't had a vacation in so long!" Kokomi said once they were on the sand.

"I have never had one," Sara noted.

"Well this counts as one," Kokomi said.

"Then I've only had one vacation," Sara corrected, earning a giggle from Kokomi.

"I have to leave tomorrow, can we keep in contact through letters?" Sara asked after some silence.

"Of course! I was thinking of the same thing," Kokomi said.

...

"Where are you going, Divine Priestess?" Gorou asked.

"To visit a friend," Kokomi said, taking a bag in her hand.

"You've been seeng this friend for two years, who is this person?" Gorou asked.

"Not telling," Kokomi grinned.

...

"Yo Sara, where are ya goin'? Ooo! Ooo! Can I join?" Itto shouted.

"I'm going to visit... A friend," Sara smiled to herself.

"And no. Also, you forget that you have to call me Kujou." Sara said harshly.

...

On Watatsumi island, the Divine Priestess laid on the sand, waiting for another.

"Kokomi," Sara said.

"Sara, you're here!" Kokomi smiled widely, standing up to hug her.

"It's been a while, hasn't it," Sara noted, hugging the Priestess back.

"It has, how long since we've been together?" Kokomi asked.

"It's been three years since we've first met, we starting dating after eight months and today is our second anniversary of getting married," Sara said, letting go of the hug.

"Time certainly flies," Kokomi sighed, and after a moment of contemplative silence, she added: "should we announce our marriage to the public?"

"Only if you wish to, love," Sara said.

"Then let's do it," Kokomi smiled once more as they chilled on the beach.

...

"Sagonomiya blah blah and Kujou Sara- my bestie! two powerful women, vision bearers and... LESBIANS!?" Itto screetched, gripping the paper he was reading tightly in his hands. "GOROU!!!"

"Wait- lesbians? Hopefully Her Excelency won't get any hate..." Gorou muttered, "hand me that though, I need to examine it, your non-existant brain may have missed an important detail."

"HEY. My brain isn't THAT small... It HAS to be at LEAST the size of Onikabuto Beetle the 8th!" Itto protested, gesturing to his prized onikabuto on the floor.

"Yeah, well that's still not a good size," Gorou mumbled.

The General's eyes flicked to the sheet of paper Itto previously held in his hands. It was passed out to every house, as if it was the most important thing in the world. The paper was mostly black and white with the exception of two colored visions in the middle: one hydro, one electro. There was black lettering below the two visions, beggining to describe Kokomi and Sara, and their shared bond.

"HOLY SANGONOMIYA KOKOMI DIVINE PRIESTESS OF WATATSUMI ISLAND!" Gorou exclaimed.

"WHAT!?" Itto also exclaimed.

"They're MARRIED. And they're going on their freaking HONEYMOON on Serai island, where a previous contestant lives," Gorou said in disbelief.

"WHAT!?" Itto exclaimed again.

"It doesn't say the person's name, all it says is a 'previous contestant', it doesn't specify if they are from Serai or are currently living there..." Gorou mumbles.

"WELL WE NEED TO GO!" Itto shouted.

"Why?" Gorou asks to his stupidity.

"SARA HAS BEEN VISITING HER 'FRIEND' EVER SINCE THE COMPETITION AND THAT FRIEND HAS BEEN KOKOMI ALL ALONG THAT'S SO SWEET I'VE SHIPPED SARA WITH THE FRIEND FOR SO LONG!" Itto shouts in the other's face.

"Sensitive ears! Sensitive ears!" Gorou says.

"Oops-" Itto says.

"Anyways," Gorou says, successfully changing the subject, "Her Excellency has also been visiting a friend as an excuse to go out. I personally thought it was just for a break from work, but later I continued to think it wasn't just a break. I also may have shipped Her Excellency and her 'friend' she kept mentioning with a smile, always adding at least two energy to her system."

"I have no idea what you just said, but I THINK you just AGREED with me that we should SPY ON THE RECENTLY RELEASED LESBIANS!" Itto screamed.

"Released?" Gorou repeated.

"PRECISELY," Itto nodded enthusiastically.

"But why are we-" Gorou began.

"Because we want to protect our besties and kill the homohaters!" Itto shouted.

"You mean homophobes?" Gorou asked.

"HOMOHATERS," Itto protested.

"Well whatever you call them, we'll still go," Gorou nodded to himself.

"HELL YEAH!"

"LANGUAGE!"

"SORRY!"
