THE GODS

These are the deities who are part of the story but are not official guides for the girls of Iridescence. Most are allies, but a few are villains.

AETHER

Aether is the God of Light and the Sky. He is kind and pure of heart. He was very close to his daughter, Kleia, and was devastated when she died. For a brief period of time, his light dimmed from that grief, although he eventually regained his full powers.

Aether exists to give others hope. He can be very inspiring when people feel defeated and are ready to give up. His light strengthens people in battle and he will join in himself as needed.

ALTHEOS

Altheos, or Theos as those closest to him called him, was the son of Hades and Nemesis. From the moment he was born, his parents hated him, sensing something was off with the boy. They beat and tortured him mercilessly. Nemesis intentionally blinded him in one eye in an effort to weaken him. Hades often kept him chained up and starved him or allowed dark souls to torture the boy. When he was still young, Zeus and Hera intervened, adopting their nephew and raising him as if he was their own son. Hera was especially attached to the boy.

He became the God of Sorcery, Prophecy, and Dance. It was said he had the potential to wield any form of magic, and over time, he unlocked countless new skills in this area. No one moved with more fluidity in battle, and his skill as a swordsman was unmatched even by Ares. Theos was incredibly charming and was beloved by everyone except his parents. He spent a lot of time around the Muses and their children. Apollo, Artemis, and Hermes considered him their brother more than their cousin.

Theos was a remarkably gifted liar. Aside from Hades and Nemesis, no one ever suspected that he was evil. In fact, most would have dismissed the idea as ludicrous and impossible. In a play for more power, Theos joined forces with Chaos, although he intended to betray him in the end, too, once he was powerful enough to take everything for himself. He fed Chaos information that led to him being able to destroy several of his enemies. Theos also convinced Chaos to kill Tana and Queen Ember, and then he slaughtered all of the surviving Fire Nymphs because he believed they were too powerful and would pose a threat to him.

Theos was extremely close to Apollo. He spent a lot of time around Kleia even before that because she was a young Muse. Ultimately, it was Alexia that first realized the truth, and later Kleia. Theos killed Alexia to prevent her from stopping him. Before Kleia could warn the other deities about what she knew, Chaos attacked, and Kleia gave her life to help protect them.

Theos was ultimately destroyed thanks to Kleia's sacrifice. The deities worked together and put him down. It became clear, however, that a small part of him survived and came back in another form. He is the very threat the girls of Iridescence are trying to stop.

APHRODITE

Aphrodite is the Goddess of Love. She is a bit of a gossip and is obsessed with romance. She and Artemis do not get along because Artemis thinks she's a shallow airhead, but there is more to Aphrodite deep down. She cares about other people much more than she lets on.

She loves fashion, romantic stories, and anything beautiful. Aphrodite can come across as a catty mean girl sometimes. Although most of the Gods are very fond of her, a lot of the Goddesses tend to dislike her.

Once Aphrodite starts talking about romance, it's hard to get her to stop. She believes no one is truly happy unless they're in love, and she is constantly trying to play matchmaker. She is also one of the only deities who can seal and strengthen consort bonds. She is braver than people give her credit for.

ATHENA

Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and Battle. She is brilliant and is the first person Artemis turns to when she needs advice. She is the older sister of Artemis, Apollo, Hermes, and Ares, as well as Zeus's many other offspring. She spends her time training and guiding those who need it. She can be a little intense but has a very good heart.

She is very close to Pallas, and is deeply protective of him. She was very fond of his daughter Alexia and acted almost as an aunt to her.

Athena is fierce in battle. It is nearly impossible to defeat her. She is deeply respected by the other deities and they often turn to her for help in battle.

CHAOS

Chaos, also known as Apophis or Apep, is the God of Chaos. Although he was defeated by the deities after a millennia-long battle, he is not dead. He remains in seclusion and is inactive. His goal was to destroy the other deities and fling the universe into endless chaos.

He worked with Altheos in secret, using the information he gave him to gain the upper hand in the battle. Chaos slaughtered countless innocents before he was stopped. It took both Good and Evil working together to finally defeat him after millennia. He briefly escaped in the early 2000's, but was defeated after a few years and has not caused any trouble since. If he ever returns to power, he could potentially destroy everything both sides have worked so hard to build.

ELEOS

Eleos is the Goddess of Empathy, Compassion, and Mercy. She takes an Earthly form to comfort those in need. Her current form is a social worker named Addison Fields.

She cares deeply for others and tries to help them process and heal from trauma.

HELIOS

Helios is the God of the Sun. He was the father of Tana. He was very fond of Tana's mother, the Queen of the Fire Nymphs, Ember. When Chaos murdered Ember, Helios went into shock. In order to save his life, Tana sent him away, but she stayed behind to protect the other Fire Nymphs. Tana's death devastated him, because they'd always been close. He found her fiery personality endearing and amusing.

Long ago, he was a happy God who enjoyed partying and celebrating the best things in life. He blamed himself for Tana and Ember dying and it changed him. Helios keeps to himself most of the time these days. He comes out on occasion but hasn't been the same jovial God he once was since he lost his daughter. He is nearly unrecognizable because he hardly smiles and is very reserved.

HERA

Hera is the Queen of the Olympians. She is married to Zeus and is the Goddess of Marriage and Family. She has a quick temper at times, especially when Zeus is being a pain, but she also has a kinder side. She can be very sarcastic and even harsh when dealing with people who upset her. She clashes with Aphrodite more than most.

Hera was especially fond of Theos, and she took his betrayal very hard. She looked away when he was killed because it was too hard for her to watch despite what he'd done. As far as she was concerned, he was her son.

She is not afraid to put Zeus in his place. Hera stands up for herself and for others when Zeus is out of line. She'll get right in his face and tell him he's being a fool if she feels she needs to. They fight constantly but are simultaneously deeply in love. Zeus has a bad habit of cheating on Hera, so long ago, Hera started doing it, too. They both know the other one sleeps around and it makes both of them insanely jealous, but they basically have an open marriage because Hera won't stand for Zeus breaking their vows. By opening up the relationship, they're both still technically loyal to each other, and Hera still views their marriage as strong. When it counts, they always stand together.

KAKIA

Kakia is an evil Goddess of Temptation and Indulgence who tries to seduce people to choose evil. She is the mother of Nyght.

Her carefree laughter has a condescending edge to it. She is terrifying, yet people are drawn to her. She once tried to tempt Heracles to take the path to an easy life instead of embracing his destiny. She is working with Altheos.

MNEMOSYNE

Mnemosyne is the Goddess of Memory. She can unlock the memories of others, and her own memories cannot be tampered with. As a result of this gift, she came to realize Altheos was responsible for far more deaths than anyone knew.

She is a gentle Goddess, guarding the secrets of the past and guiding others as needed. She takes care of a memorial for the victims of Altheos.

She is the mother of the Muses, making her Kleia's grandmother.

NEMESIS

Nemesis is the Goddess of Divine Retribution and Revenge. She was the mother of Altheos. Although she is a very dark Goddess, she is not evil. Even her most extreme actions are about balance. Nemesis sees injustice and punishes the guilty party as she sees fit.

In battle, Nemesis is fierce and efficient. Her vicious nature often results in savage attacks, but they are always justified in her mind.

PALLAS

Pallas is a God of Battle and Warcraft. He was the father of Alexia. He is very close to Athena. Nike is his daughter.

Pallas keeps to himself except during battles. He spends most of his free time training for the next war. He is very stoic and focused on training. He is a fierce warrior. Even the very temperamental Ares respects him deeply and often calls on him to assist him in battle.

POLYHYMNIA

Polyhymnia is the Muse of Sacred Hymns and Poetry. She was the mother of Kleia. She is very stoic and devout, and she takes her role very seriously. She nurtures those who are dedicated to worshipping the Gods and performing acts of magic through ritual.

Polyhymnia is very gentle, but in times of war, even she will fight. Most of what she does is inspire those who are battling, but she also actively casts spells to affect the outcome in favor of those she deems to be on the right side. Her magic is powerful, and she is able to create new spells on the spot, just like Kleia.

PSYCHE

Psyche is the Goddess of the Soul. She began her existence as a mortal but was made into a deity after completing a number of tasks for Aphrodite and becoming the consort of Eros.

Psyche spends a lot of time sitting on a cliff and watching over the mortals. She is said to rival Aphrodite's beauty, but she cares more about helping others than focusing on her appearance. She is very gentle and caring, but can be fierce when it comes to protecting others.

She became a deity toward the end of the battle against Chaos, so she missed a lot of the war. She can read anyone's soul and determine their past existences. She can also help someone unlock their soul's memories and powers.

TETHYS

Tethys is the Goddess of Fresh Water. She was the mother of Rydia. She had a hand in raising Hera, acting as a foster mother to her, and is one of the only deities Hera will yield to.

Tethys is exceptionally nurturing and kind, but is also a free spirit. She is very laid back and has a lot of perspective about things others get overwhelmed by. She tends to be a calming presence and can even stop the temper tantrums of the other Gods and make them see reason, using water to provide them with clarity.

VIKTOR

Viktor was the Roman God of Portals, Doors, and Travelers, but he spent much of his time catering to the Greeks. He was the father of Vincenzo. Although he possessed great power, Viktor was often overlooked by the other Gods.

Altheos appealed to Viktor's lust for power and recognition. He promised him both if he agreed to work with him. Viktor didn't even hesitate.

Viktor was a cold, calculating God who would do anything for power. He was always dark, and Altheos was simply the catalyst that allowed him to embrace his true nature. He has reincarnated in the last place anyone expected to find him.

VINCENZO

Vincenzo was the Roman God of Teleportation and Travelers. He was the son of Viktor. Like his father, he felt unappreciated by the other deities because they often ignored him unless they needed him.

Altheos, Viktor, and a third God convinced Vincenzo to stand with them, but he soon realized they were harming others. He feared his father, so he went along with things for a while, but he ultimately found the courage to stand against them. For this, Vincenzo was murdered. He has since reincarnated.

ZEUS

Zeus is the King of Olympus. He is the God of the Sky and Lightning. Hades is his twin and Poseidon is his younger brother. He is married to Hera and is the father of Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Hermes, and Dionysus, among many others. Zeus has a habit of cheating on Hera, and the two fight like cats and dogs, but at the end of the day, they love each other very much.

Zeus is extremely powerful. He led the Greek deities in the battle against Chaos. It is never wise to cross him, as his temper is legendary. He has a gentler side that he rarely shows, but deep down, he cares about his family very much.

Zeus is pretty close to Poseidon. Hades is very jealous of Zeus, so much so that he became evil for a long time, but the twins have made some progress in mending their relationship over the years since Hades started turning good again. Despite fighting with them both fairly often, Zeus loves his brothers and looks to them first when he needs help in a crisis.
