[Chapter written in February the 18th, 2024]

Before understanding the Candy Children. It is best to know about the very thing that brings a Candy Child/a Candy child's vessel to life in the first place:
The Stars.
The Stars are technically their own 'species' but they also work like this battery for a Candy Child to thrive in their candy vessel. It's basically like their soul. Think of it like a ghost needing to posses a vessel in order to take control of a physical form. In this case, the Stars are possessing made vessels out of candies and pastries. They do have the ability to posses living organic vessels at times but they never really do that since their presence inside of an organic vessel usually not only risk the life of the host but that's also not part of the Stars' nature to be causing so much unnecessary suffering and harm to a living being (unless of course there are certain measures when the Star is forced into the living being's chest cavity where it may cause the Star to unintentionally electrify and even shred the living being's insides that they were forced into just to get out).
The Stars usually appear to have a dull gray color to them before the activation of a Wisher's will/wish. The Stars start off with just a boring color, this is their standard form before ever changing to a different color to when someone makes a wish to the Star. The people who makes the wish to the Star is what is called a Wisher.

Definition of a Wisher:
Someone who has obtained a Star and wished upon their deepest desire (whether non-verbally or not). Therefore activating the star. Those people are entitled as Wishers.

However, do note that there are certain types of people who cannot wish upon a Star. Those types of people are usually robots/AIs, other candy children, young children (ages under 12), and other living beings that has the same materials that the candy children's vessels are made out of. For example, if someone's species were entirely made out of candy, they are unable to activate the star because the candy children's vessels are already made out of candy.
However, if this living being that's candy started off as a human let's say with the right requirements and wished upon a star before they turned into this unnatural candy like species, the Star can activate though however this Star will not be able to posses the chosen vessel properly without some sort of a life support to help them. It's like adding an additional battery or plug to get a machine working.
However, without this life support, the Star can also easily deactivate and affect the Wisher's sense of will as well. Thus, making these type of candy children with life supports the most vulnerable and least durable.
As a side note, spiritual characters (such as ghosts, spirits, and such) can technically wish for a Star as well but once they are touching the Star as it starts to activate, their own life essence/soul will start getting sucked into the Star.
Once the painful process is completed, the spiritual being is no longer present in the living world but has now been consumed by the very Star that they have wished upon. The only left of them is their purpose/will stored in the very Star.
That is why it's extremely dangerous for a spirit or any ghosts to be making any direct contact to a Star, especially when activating the item. In fact, even the Stars can be used as a weapon to injure the spiritual beings. That is, if you manage to neutralize a star into for example...into a Star shard.
However, do be aware that the Stars are no easy to break at all. So it may be a bit difficult to do so. One of the only ways to break them is when it gets shattered by another one of their own kind (that counting the candy children) and few more other methods can still be determined.

And as of a question that several people have been asking, where did the Stars come from? Where can you get one of your own?  Well...it's been hinted out in Candy AU already actually. But for starters, the Stars comes from the skies where there's like this barrier between the Stars' realm and the mortal realm or any other world in general. It's like the Stars are living in their own pocket dimension in the skies, looking at the events down below, spectating, observing, watching.
The only way for anyone to have direct contact with the Stars is going to nearby rivers or large bodies of waters where a supposedly portal between the Stars and the mortal world is available. And to open/create those portals is actually with using the soul of a child (people under the age 18). After all, from the Stars' perspective, just sacrificing one child soul is not much of a big deal when it comes for the greater good. It was the only way for the Stars to have the ability to gain direct physical contact to the mortal realm from their own. The reason why? That, I must leave it a mystery as of now...
The usual victims that gets chosen are at random (unless it's someone with very great potential and has helped many others. Those types of people will be least targeted by the Stars) and are near the area of where the location of the Stars are at.
The Stars never really choose mass victims or even causing deaths. They only do what seems to be necessary for a better future.
To lure victims in, the Stars are easily able to send the most direct control and hallucinations towards the people whose brains have not fully developed yet. So they use the undeveloped part of the brain to their advantage to lure younger victims to a nearby water to create a portal between the mortal realm and the Stars's realm at the right day and time.
Once being in contact with a hallucination object that the Star has created by looking deep into your desires such as something of an item that the victim truly wanted or holding a piece of a Star itself, there's no turning back.
When in direct contact with the hallucination object, depending on how young the victim is, having the part of your brain being not fully developed may be filled with the Stars' control and hallucinations instead. That is why it becomes harder for the Stars to control and send in strong hallucinations to older victims because older people have their brain more fully developed and filled up than younger people. The young victim may be enthralled and in no control of the situation that they're in anymore. Because the Stars have technically casted a spell on them, being in full control.
The easiest way to shake a victim out of the Stars' control is to shake them awake or use any strong physical contact that could snap their attention back to the present. That is usually why the Stars aims for the young victims during the night, where no one seems to be suspecting anything so it would be easier to lure the victim when they are alone.
That is how the Stars lure the victims and uses the younger soul(s) to open the gateways between their realm to the mortal world. However, they don't often build multiple gateways at once. They strategize when and how many gateways they should and are able to open without having to sacrifice so many young souls recklessly.
To enter these gateways, it is quite simple. Just go into the bodies of water where the portal may be indicated to and dive deep into it till eventually, you wake up back in the Star realm. The Stars have the ability to send the person back/kick them out of the Star realm whenever they please.
Sometimes the person doesn't even need to go into any bodies of water to obtain a Star, they just have to be near the location of where the gateway is and one day, if their will/desire is strong enough, one Star may decide to drop from the sky. Or a shooting Star as you may call it.

They can also be used to travel to different universes only when they get smeared with the blood of another being from a different dimension. This mechanic exists among that stars is to not only spread themselves to other universes but also to help bring the other person from the different universe back to their home.

Now there are times when the Stars can actually be infuriated at a specific person or event. When they do, their dull colors turn to bright blood red. And the most hated targets (usually people who used their kind abusively or caused many lives and souls to suffer and continuing with that act without trying to redeem themselves) who come across near the stars once again (especially when entering their realm), that's when the Stars turn red and start literally try to stab and shred that hated person to pieces till they died, trying to claim their soul as to prevent further torture, threat, and harm.  They do this to keep everyone else who's innocent safe by eliminating the threat that has crossed their line. It is only when the threat enters their realm or is near them, the whole Star colony attacks that hated target.

To contain a Star, a Cryocapsule is highly recommended since it seems to do best in containing them. However, do remember that the Stars have a mind of their own too, especially the non-activated ones. It is clear that they do not want to be contained for the wrong reasons and/or being forced into an invalid vessel (vessels that do not meet the requirements to be considered a Candy Child/vessels that are not made out of candies or pastries).
It would be extremely difficult for anyone to even force a Star into anything due to the amount of power and strength each and individual Star contains. It is especially hard to contain the Stars who has a very strong sense of purpose/will to them as well.
Only with the right requirements and strategy will some people eventually be able to neutralize a Star. Though it is rather quite rare for such things to happen.

In the end, the Stars are a questionable and still yet mysterious assisting force that plays in the background as they watch the world they try to help improve either burn or rise. Either way, it's a victory for the Stars' in the end, no matter which direction it goes.
