Chapter 21 ~ To Cross a Gray Jedi
Okay, so, this took a little bit longer than what I was expecting, but it's nearly 5,000 words long, so I think it was definitely worth the wait.
I still can't believe how far I've gotten in this book! It seems like just yesterday I was only at seven chapters and had a handful of readers. But, thanks to y'all's support, here I am.
Happy reading!
"Ahsoka, I think we're safe," Lux muttered as the Togruta dragged him around a corner. She only continued to insist that they were still possibly in an area that there could be ears, so Ahsoka pulled him along further.
"Who in the world could be this important?" Lux asked, mostly an annoyed groan, as Ahsoka nervously glanced around. Finally, she shushed him and yanked him into a closet far, far away the Senator's office.
"You can't tell anyone about this Lux, or we're dead meat," Ahsoka said in a low voice as she closed the door behind them. Light barely shone through the crack between the door and the ground, leaving them in an almost pitch black situation. Lux wasn't sure if this was romantic or eery.
"So what's so top secret that you drug me all the way in here for?" Lux asked, all the while adjusting to the poor lighting. By now he was able to make out distinguished silhouettes of several objects in the maintenance room, one of which being the Togruta.
"Remember when I told you that there was a Sith in the Republic?"
This immediately caught Lux's attention. Even though he had a slight of an idea on who she might have been talking about, the question had been nagging him over the last few years. Now was finally time for him to learn the answer.
"It's..." Ahsoka hesitated, then lifted her hand up with the Force to sense her surroundings. While there were no approaching bodies, she did detect a security camera. Knowing that Palpatine would have no trouble accessing whatever he wants, the ex-Sith knew that she had to keep any important information away from him. So, within seconds, she had focused on the equipment, then clenched her hand in a fist and ground it to pieces.
Then, looking seriously into her eyes, she muttered, "It's Palpatine."
"What?" Lux asked. Sure, he might have had his suspicions, but hearing her confirm it was still shocking, "You're sure about this?"
"Very," Ahsoka mumbled, thinking back to the awful period of her life that he had controlled her. There was no mistaking the fact that her "master" had been the chancellor.
"What are we going to do?" Lux panicked, thinking back to the contingency plans. The hidden Sith could execute Order 66 within a second, and just like, the Jedi would be dead.
"Get him arrested," Ahsoka replied matter-of-factly, "I've spent a long time thinking about this, and I think I have an idea."
"Which is?"
"I'm going to tip the Order off to get a midichlorian test done. After that, I'll tell them to come to his office at a certain point in time, in which I'll be engaging in a fight with him. And, if that isn't enough..." Ahsoka stopped as she suddenly felt someone's eyes on her body. She looked back to Lux, who was very much distracted by something else. She grew flustered and annoyed, then decided to knock some sense into him.
So, she slapped him across the cheek.
Nothing too hard, just enough to get his attention. "Focus," she snapped, followed by Lux's cheeks growing rosy in embarrassment. Of course, she couldn't see this, but she had a good feeling they were.
"Sorry," he mumbled, looking away.
"Anyways, since I'm assuming you didn't catch a word I said, I suppose I'll just have to repeat myself," this resulted in a groan from the senator, "I'll hint off to the Republic that they need to get a midichlorian test done, then to go in the chancellor's room at a certain time. All the while, I will engage in a fight with him, so they'll walk in when he's in Sith mode. And if that isn't enough for their oblivious selves, I am literally walking camera footage as him dictating me. I can just show them my memories."
"Dictating you?" Lux asked, his voice evident with concern.
"It's a story for another time," Ahsoka whispered, forcing herself to look away so he couldn't see the pain in her face, "I don't think I'm ready to tell you."
"It's alright 'Soka. I'm here for you when you need me," Lux said as he rested a hand on her shoulder. She gave him a smile, then carefully opened the door of the closet. After comically peeking her head out to check both directions of the hall, she sighed in relief as she didn't see anyone. Just in case though, she flipped up the hood on her robes so nobody would be able to identify who she was. Of course, the points of her montrals easily identified her as a Togruta or something similar, but anybody who was looking for Ahsoka specifically wouldn't be smart enough to realize that she would've grown over the years. "So, when do we start?" Lux asked as they entered his office.
"Now," Ahsoka said urgently as the door closed behind them, "I can't wait a second longer. I'm already over three years late. Do you have a speeder I can borrow?"
Lux walked over to his desk and pushed a few buttons, then grabbed a set of keys out of a drawer and handed them to her. "Here. It'll be in spot 72 in two minutes. Good luck Ahsoka."
Ahsoka pocketed the keys inside her robe, then looked up at him. "Thanks, Lux. If anything happens... I want you to know that I love you."
Lux gazed at her lovingly and replied with a smirk, "I know." Then, as romantic as an old holomovie, the two leaned forward and gave each other a light kiss. For all they knew, it could be their last. Living a life as wild and dangerous as they did, there was no guarantee of a tomorrow.
"I'll be back soon," Ahsoka smiled as she broke the kiss and began to turn. Then, with a two finger salute and smirk, she dashed out of his office.

Nerves burned through Ahsoka like a raging fire. She hadn't been this close to the Jedi Temple in...years...
To be honest, the Togruta was more excited than anything. She had wanted to return to this place, along with a list of others, for what seemed like her whole life. Now that she was finally here, her only regret was that she couldn't reveal her identity.
Of course, she would let it slip in time, but for now she needed to be shielded from Palpatine. After that, she would be able to reconnect with her old friends and acquaintances. Barriss, Obi-Wan, Anakin...
She shook her head free from this. She needed to stay focused, and thinking about such things would only delay her mission. Steeling herself with the strength that she knew she didn't have at the moment, she walked up to the Temple guards.
"I need to talk to a Jedi," she said, keeping her voice soft was confident.
"Outsiders are not aloud. Scram," one of the Temple guards growled, earning an eye roll from Ahsoka, "especially not those that wear cloaks to hide their features."
"You don't understand," Ahsoka argued, "this is very important business. They know me."
"Well, we don't. Please leave now, or we will have to escort you away."
Ahsoka groaned and shook her head. This was getting absolutely nowhere. Suddenly, an idea popped up in her head. She wasn't sure if it would work, given the fact that they were Force-sensitive, but it was worth a go.
"You will let me enter the Temple."
It took a few seconds, in which was a time where Ahsoka's stomach grew uneasy as she thought that it hadn't worked, but they are stiff and replied, "We will let you enter the Temple." Then, like mechanical soldiers, they moved to the side and opened the gates for her.
"Thank you. Your actions are important to saving the galaxy," Ahsoka said as she walked past them, but she was convinced that they probably hadn't heard her in their trance.
Ahsoka took an anxious glance at the building that towered before her, but she ultimately decided to face her fear and go in.
The second she stepped in she was immediately ambushed by memories. As she watched some younglings run by, she could almost envision herself with them, tiny lekku bouncing along. Then came the older younglings, who were quietly chatting amongst themselves about who would be picked as a padawan soon. Once again, a small illusion of the Togruta was right there beside them, excitedly joining in on the conversation. Ahsoka turned her head away and tried to shake the thoughts out of her head, but she was only met by human Jedi Knights that made her do a double take when she mistook them for Anakin and Obi-Wan. By this point she was torn between her desire to stay and venture through her old home and the want to leave because of how much seeing it was hurting her. Never in a million years did the Togruta think that she would ever feel this... broken. It was as though Sidious and Dooku had ripped her heart and soul to shreds and had kept some of the pieces. She just didn't feel whole anymore, despite the fact that she had Lux in her life.
Who will I tell? Obi-Wan and Anakin already know me... so maybe Barriss?
Ahsoka stopped herself. Maybe she could use her master and Obi-Wan's knowledge to her advantage? If they knew that she was... well... Ahsoka... then they'd probably be more inclined to follow through with what she asked of them.
Since she couldn't just walk up to some random Jedi Knight and ask where the two men were, she decided to reach into her memory and seek out their signatures. She finally caught wind of one that was closer to her: Obi-Wan's. Apparently Anakin was hanging out with the 501st.
Ahsoka wove her way through the halls of the Temple, following the flicker of energy that the Jedi Master's presence gave off. She eventually found herself standing in front of his chambers, special suites that were issued to Jedis of his ranking. Without a second thought, she raised her hand up, curled it into a fist, and knocked on his door. She assumed that barging in by using the Force could possibly be a little bit dangerous.
"Come in," a muffled voice yelled from behind the door, in a direction which Ahsoka guessed was the opposite side of the door.
With the twitch of her fingers, the doors slid open and she walked in. Sure enough, the one and only Obi-Wan Kenobi was sitting on a chair, reading through some files. After a quick glance using the Force, she saw that they were statistics and numbers from some recent battles that she was unfamiliar with.
"Do I know you?" Obi-Wan asked as he looked up at her in confusion. Ahsoka was shocked at first, thinking that he was messing with her, but then remembered that she was wearing a hood.
"Oh yeah. Sorry," Ahsoka mumbled as she flicked the material off of her head.
"You know, I'm not even going to ask how you got in here," Obi-Wan chuckled in disbelief before doing a double take and turning serious, "But is that really you, Ahsoka? I thought you were for sure lost to the Dark Side."
"Well, I am standing right in front of you," Ahsoka stated, as though it was the dumbest question the Jedi Master had asked. He laughed and shook his head; she was still as snippy as ever. "So, how's your shoulder?"
"My shoulder?" Obi-Wan retorted, pulling down the neckline of his robes to reveal his right shoulder, "yeah, I'd say I'm doing fine."
Ahsoka winced as she saw a scarring wound on his skin. It didn't look deadly, but it sure wasn't pretty.
"Sorry 'bout that. At least it wasn't your head," Ahsoka chortled, only earning an annoyed grunt from the Jedi Master.
"Oh yes," he remarked sarcastically, "Force forbid if it was the head."
A silence fell between them as Obi-Wan waited for her to reply or bring up whatever she had come there for. However, he was forced to wait as she tried to gather her thoughts and find the best way to present him with the information.
"I have a...not-so-anonymous-tip-that-needs-to-be-anonymous to give you," she finally declared, looking back to him.
"Oh? Please do enlighten me," Obi-Wan queried.
"A midichlorian test needs to be taken on the Chancellor," Ahsoka said in a hushed tone, leaning forward so he could catch her words, "you have to promise me you'll get the Council to take it before the hour is finished. I also will need the whole Council to walk into the room 30 minutes after he has finished the test."
"The Chancellor?" Obi-Wan questioned, "why would we do that?"
"You have to," Ahsoka pleaded, "promise me, Obi-Wan."
The Jedi nervously glanced between Ahsoka and the wall. Was that a promise he would make? What in the world could be so important that they would have to invade the privacy of one of the most trusted people in the Republic? After realizing that Ahsoka definitely wouldn't have gone through this effort to instruct him to do something frivolous.
"Okay. You have my word. But if you need this done so quickly, I'll need to go now. Are you okay here... or...?"
"Oh I won't be staying," Ahsoka assured him, "I have very important business to get sorted. Don't worry, we'll be seeing each other very soon."
Ahsoka gave him a playful wink, then threw her hood back over her montrals and dashed out of his chambers. This left him to wonder what she was talking about. What could she be doing that was important, especially after just switching sides? Knowing that it would only make his head hurt with possible theories, he shoved it aside and made his way to the Council.

Don't sneeze
Don't sneeze
Don't sneeze
Ahsoka finally managed to shove down the burning sensation that had ran through Ahsoka's nose. The dust and dirt in the ventilation shafts was... to say the least... outrageous, and it was doing nothing short of assaulting her senses. If she didn't know better, she would've thought that she was in a sand storm on Tatooine. Here she was though, carefully crawling her way through some air conditioning vents while using quite a bit of Force to conceal her signature. Now, even to the trained Force-sensitive ones, she was practically invisible and off the grid.
The Togruta clenched her teeth and pushed through the obscene amount of dust. After many, many minutes of mindless moving around, voices caught her dead in her action.
"Chancellor Palpatine, I have come to administer a midichlorian test demanded by members of the Jedi Council. Will you please allow me to draw some blood?"
"Why would they want me to do that? Do they really have that much lack of trust in me?"
Just hearing his sickening voice was enough for Ahsoka to mentally gag. He could bet his Sith butt that the Council had a lack of trust in him. Shoot, they rarely trusted one another! So, if someone were to go and give an urgent and anonymous tip like this, a test was only inevitable.
"I'm sorry sir, but it has been decided. Now, may I please take the blood sample?"
"I suppose."
Ahsoka knew what he was planning on doing, though. She knew exactly how powerful the Sith Lord was, and if her suspicions were correct, he even had a little bit of practice influencing midichlorians. All the while keeping her presence cloaked, she reached out and felt the Force surrounding the vial of blood. Sure enough, she could feel his signature reaching out to the midichlorians in the blood. He was trying to influence them to disappear.
"Not today, Satan," Ahsoka mumbled as she reached out to the sample herself, creating a protective barrier around it. He wasn't going to win this time; the Council would now exactly how powerful and dangerous this hidden Sith was. The Togruta smirked as she could feel the Chancellor grow angry, then frightened. "What?" Ahsoka sarcastically joked, keeping caution of how loud her voice was so they wouldn't hear, "Are you afraid of something?"
The Force Healer turned and began to walk out of the door with his blood, and Ahsoka could feel Palpatine grow even more concerned. "Wait!" He stammered, but the Jedi only turned and gave him a look of annoyance.
"I'm sorry sir, but this test needs to be analyzed immediately. Have a good day," with that, she walked out of the door and down the hall.
"No, no, no," Palpatine frantically stuttered. Ahsoka paused to smirk for a moment. It felt good to see her enemy so distraught. His plans were finally falling down. Finally, she stopped and knew it was time to dive into the action. The Council would be here shortly, and Ahsoka needed to have bested him before then.
Since she didn't want to use her lightsabers yet, she Force pushed a piece of the ventilation to the ground, allowing for a hole for her to climb through. Ahsoka dramatically jumped down to land on one knee with her palms on the ground, all the while using the Force to keep her hood on her head. That, for sure, was one of the lessons she had learned from her incident with Obi-Wan. She tilted her head up and let out a malicious smile, despite the fact that she knew he wouldn't be able to see it.
"Stop right there!" Palpatine declared, "I have security that will arrest you!"
Ahsoka adjusted her voice to something deeper so he couldn't detect it was her, then said, "I don't think we will need to be getting them involved, Sith."
Palpatine's eyes bulged wide with shock, but he quickly straightened himself out and replied with a snarky tone, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh but I do," Ahsoka quipped, whipping her lightsabers out of her coat and powering them on. The look on the Chancellor's face was priceless as he realized who she was.
"The apprentice returns," he purred, seeming oddly relaxed, "I was wondering how long it would take for you to return to your master. Now we can finally finish my plans."
"No," Ahsoka indignantly declared, looking up enough to where part of her face was revealed, "we'll be finishing mine."
"You are a fool to believe that the Light Side is your path," Palpatine sneered, ripping his lightsaber out of his sleeve and powering it on.
"And you are a fool to believe that evil triumphs," Ahsoka huffed, lunging in to launch an attack. She caught Sidious off guard, but he quickly recovered and began to parry back. They went on for what seemed like endless minutes lunging to and fro, trying to wear the other down. Sidious had the advantage in experience, but Ahsoka was nothing short of better than him. Between his own training and her enhanced strength, she quickly began to edge towards the offensive, pushing him back towards a wall. Suddenly a brilliantly insolent idea hatched on her.
"Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself," she mimicked with a smirk on her face. Then, she continued to add commentary to the tale he had told her, "But I believe the underlying moral of this story is that the master should never teach the apprentice all of his knowledge unless they are trustworthy."
"Are you implying that you aren't trustworthy?"
"Are you implying that I'm going to win and kill you?"
That was enough to shut the Sith up. He gritted his teeth and scowled, focusing his energy on blocking Ahsoka's shots. It didn't take long for Ahsoka to realize that this wasn't going anywhere, so she decided to try and use more than just her lightsaber to fight with. She Force-pushed him into a wall and tried to swipe at his feet, but he jumped over the blade and forward flipped over the Togruta. She spun around and pressed her strikes harder, eventually getting pressuring him to the point that they had backed into his desk. Sidious was leaning backwards over his desk while Ahsoka was right on top of him, their lightsabers locked right by his throat.
"I'm not scared of you," he spat, his eyes emblazoned with hatred.
"You will be," Ahsoka growled.
The Sith finally managed to shove her off and tried to get a quick blow in, but she met his weapon with both of her icy white ones and pushed back. She finally managed to twist his lightsaber out of his hands, sending it flying across the room and far out of his grasp. He raised his hands in defeat, but Ahsoka knew much better than to let her guard down. Sure enough, he sent sparks of Force Lightning from his fingertips, doing so in such speed that she almost didn't shield herself in time. He cackled as he strengthened his power, but Ahsoka only deadpanned as it was just absorbed into her lightsaber.
Seeing that this wasn't going to work, he stopped using the electricity. Then, without a warning, he used the Force to extract both of her lightsabers from her grip and pulled them to the ground by his feet. Ahsoka's face went pale as she realized that she was now without her main defense: her lightsabers.
Stay at ease, child. Your powers are far beyond those of his. His wimpy Force Lightning is nothing for you.
Ahsoka smiled at the voice of the Daughter. The celestial always seemed to be there when she needed advice. Of course, this confused Sidious when she randomly changed her mood to positivity, and he actually considered if her mental sanity was there or not. In all honesty though, he didn't have much room to speak given his condition.
Nonetheless, he grinned psychotically and raised his hands to fire the electricity at her. Without having much time to think, Ahsoka held her hands out and tried her best to somehow protect herself from the power. Much to her shock, she didn't feel any pain at all coursing through her body. She opened her eyes, which she hadn't realized that she had closed in anticipation, and found that the Force Lightning he was shooting at her was gathering into a ball.
"Blast it. Light Side abilities," Sidious cursed as the energy ball grew larger. However, what he didn't realize is that Ahsoka wasn't just a Jedi. She could do so much more than just catch the electricity, despite that being the extent of the powers of the Light Side users. He only knew one side of her, and was completely oblivious to the fact that there was a little entity inside her signature that was named the Son.
"When I'm through with you," she shouted over the staticky sound of the lightning, "you'll regret ever crossing a Gray Jedi!"
Gray Jedi, Sidious thought to himself, racking his brains for any teachings of these people, who exactly were the Gray Jedi?
Unfortunately for him, the Gray Jedi were a topic that was as frequently discussed among the Sith as it was with the Jedi. Next to none. So, assuming that she was just making up stuff to through him off the edge, he ignored her warning and proceeded to fire the electricity at her.
Ahsoka allowed the ball of Force Lightning to grow, then decided to try something. She thought back to the time she had been on Grievous's ship, and the way that she had transformed into a literal floating body of pure, destructive energy. She knew she couldn't replicate that exactly in fear of crushing the building and killing innocents, but she could at least try something similar.
Ahsoka allowed the Force to take over, only keeping control of herself to maintain hold on the Force Lightning. Her white face markings shifted, just like before, and she began to levitate. Pure, white light was emitted from her hands, and her eyes flashed open to reveal them shining brightly.
Sidious knew this was going to end very badly. He had made a mistake. He had underestimated the power of the Togruta, despite the fact that he had been her master for several years. Where had he gone wrong? How had he missed the incredible strength that she possessed? Had she been hiding it this whole time, despite the fact that he had been controlling her to no end?
Suddenly his mind spun back to the 'excuses' that Grievous had made about the reason why she had escaped. She had blown his ship to the high heavens, then somehow lived though it all and just moved through space, right to Cato Neimoidia. His eyes grew wide with fear as he realized that she was probably planning on doing just that. Was she crazy?! Was she trying to kill off half the planet?
He reeled backwards and tried to get away, but he was much too late. She had drawn the ball of electricity in to her, held it between her glowing hands, and mixed together a deadly concoction of lightning and whatever Force magic she was creating. Then, before he could even bat an eye, she launched it right at him.
Ahsoka covered her eyes as a blinding flash coursed through the room. She could feel the energy pushing up against the shield that she had created around herself and the room, threatening to penetrate it and destroy the building. By the time the residual energy had finally faded away, her eyes were screaming bloody murder and her body was fatigued from containing the blow in the small space. She looked forwards and couldn't help but smile as she saw Sidious lying there, crisped and unconscious. Even though she knew it was against the Jedi beliefs to be glad at the defeat of an enemy, which were still beliefs that she usually liked to follow, she couldn't help but rebel and strike up a grin. It was over. He had finally paid for all the mental trauma he had put her through.
"Not so tough now, huh?" She chuckled as she lowered herself to the ground, allowing her body to shape back into her normal form and lose its white glow. Ahsoka walked over to his limp body and felt his pulse, which was still faintly there. He would survive. Which was perfect though, because then he could rot to death in a prison cell.
The Togruta tensed as she felt a multitude of signatures nearing. She flicked the hood of her robes back on, once more concealing her face, and bent down to retrieve her lightsabers. She fiddled with them in her hands for a moment, looking at the balance symbols, then pocketed them in the inside of her coat.
Ahsoka turned to see pretty much the whole entire Jedi Council, which was shocking given the fact that they usually were dispersed among different planets, with lightsabers in hand. In the front was Yoda, and to his sides were Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Using the Force to pull the Sith's lightsaber from off the ground and into her hands, she tossed it to Mace and said, "I caught you a Sith."
Mace just stood there, looking absolutely dumbfounded. He stuttered as he glanced between the lightsaber, Palpatine, and the cloaked figure that stood before him. "Uh..."
Ahsoka didn't say a word more. She just walked past them, turning her face just the right way so that way Obi-Wan could catch her identity and share a wink. Then, feeling more triumphant than ever, the Togruta walked off into the distance.
Heyyyyyy! Sidious is finally kriffing caught. Don't fear though, there are still some things left to go over in the book, so this is definitely not the end.
Also, I have a question (which I know most of y'all aren't going to answer, but it's okay. Even if I get just a couple replied, I'll still be good). I have a new story idea, which I won't be publishing for a bit since I'm already busy with this book, but I kind of have a dilemma. Would y'all be more interested in reading a book where Ahsoka's "partner" kind of person is a girl best friend, guy best friend, or lover? (By the way, this person will be an OC and not a character from any Star Wars movie or TV show.)
If y'all answered the question, thanks luvs! If not, it's chill. Just have a nice day!
