Chapter 7

(Just a warning, this chapter goes back in time to when Bunny was concerned about Alistair and Maddie)

Cupid's POV
School was finally over! It had been a long (and embarrassing!) day. I was ready to go back to my dorm and chill while listening to 1 Reflection. I opened the door and ran into my bed, plopping down on it and snuggling with my pillows.

Blondie came in a minute later and did the same thing. It's almost a rite of passage in our dorm.

"So how was your day?" Blonde asked, her voice muffled by the pillows.

"Umm....it was okay I guess."

"Do you wanna blast some 1 Reflection while we do homework? Ooh! Ooh! Play You Don't Know You're Charming!!!!" Blonde was sitting up now.

"Ok." I said, grabbing my phone. "Do you think Ashlynn and Briar will mind? Or Duchess and Lizzie?" They were in the dorm rooms next to us.

"Well, we blast songs at least twice a week and they've never said anything so...." Blonde said simply. She walked over to the large cream table we shared and sat down to do her homework.

I grabbed my pink bedazzled mirrorphone and pressed the on button. On my screen, I saw a hext from Bunny from a couple hours ago. Why did she have her phone in class? And more importantly, why was she hexting me? None of the Wonderlandians ever hexted me unless...

She was having boy trouble.

A couple months here and she was already having a tough love life.

Wow.

I gushed with sympathy for her and I hadn't even read her hext.

"Cupid, where's the music?" Blonde inquired.

"Oh...uh...sorry!" I quickly put in my password and opened the Muse-ic app. I pressed play and Blondie was almost satisfied.

"Turn it up!!!"

"Well, I have a headache so how about you set the volume to....I don't know....just right?" I didn't want the music blasting because I intended to read Bunny's hext. And if the music was playing crazy loud while I was holding the phone close to me, let's just say I WILL get a headache.

"Ok." I handed her my phone and soon the volume was set perfectly. I got my mirrorphone back from Blondie and went to my hexting app.

Amidst my several messages from Blondie, Dexter and other people was Bunny's one simple hext.

---Cupid, this is Bunny. I kinda have a love situation here. Hext me back if you want to help.

Of course I would help! I quickly hexted back my reply.

----Hi Bunny. I'd be happy to help you! It's what I'm here for! What's up?

I sat down next to Blondie and started my Chemythstry homework.

"Cupid, did we have any Hexonomics homework?"

"Yeah, its on Mr. Crown's website."

"Thanks!"

My phone emitted a cheerful 'ping!' to let me know I had a new text. It was from Bunny of course.

----Thanks so much Cupid. I really need ur help. I have an issue with Alistair. Please don't tell anyone.

She likes Alistair?! Aww, they would be such a cute couple. They were perfect together!!!!

----Of course I won't tell anyone. So what's wrong with Alistair?

"Who ya hexting?" Blondie leaned over with a snoopy look in her eyes. One of the biggest problems of being the matchmaker of the school and sharing a dorm with Blondie is that she's always keeping an eye out for a story. She's also pretty smart. She knows that sometimes a heated texting conversation can be a juicy story in the works. And since I'm sworn by the Matchmakers Code of Honor to keep all love stories in the work a secret, my life with Blondie can be fairy hard sometimes. I'm sure she knows that I'm not allowed to tell anybody about the love stories, but she probably just can't help it by being a reporter. And dare I say a hexellent one.

I glanced back at my mirror phone and saw that Bunny didn't hext back yet. I  drummed my fingers on the edge of the table.

"Cupid, what's up?"

"Nothing!" As much as I love Blondie, she's sometimes a huge pain. Unfortunately, I can't switch roommates. Especially now, Headmaster Grimm is super crazy about "no choice, follow the written path" stuff. So asking to be able to choose a new dorm would be absolutely out of question and probably would result in detention.

Blondie looked at me suspiciously. My phone 'pinged!

"Who in the name of porridge keeps hexting you?!"

"No one you should care about!" I shouted. Blondie glared at me.

"I thought we were BFFAs. Why can't you just tell me who you're hexting?!" She said sternly, her teeth clenched.

"Nothing! You don't need to pry into everyone's personal information!!! I know you're a reporter, but sometimes you go a little too far!!!" I stormed out the door, clutching my phone. I didn't know where I was going to go, but I didn't care. I just wanted to be away from Blondie for a while.

I spotted Dexter in the hallway. My stomach felt sick and my head was a whirlwind of emotions. I didn't want to be around anyone, yet was yearning to talk to Dexter. I decided to do the logical thing: go out into the courtyard.

The cool breeze comforted me as I sat down on a bench and sighed. I had done it again. I had "blew up" at Blondie as some people call it.

At Monster High, I was surround by ghouls and mansters who would growl or bare teeth all the time when they were mad. And that was the life I knew. I guess it started to rub off on me. Then, when I received my acceptance letter to EAH, I was excited. But I still couldn't change who I was. I tried to be proper and not become my Monster High self when I was angry, and sometimes I was successful. But sometimes I wasn't. Unfortunately, this was one time where I lost control. I guess you could call it my "inner monster."

I hope I hadn't permanently damaged my friendship with Blondie. She really is my best friend forever after.

I finally looked at my hext from Bunny.

---Well, I have a huge crush on Alistair, but he doesn't like me. I think he likes Maddie and vice versa. They both clearly like each other and I don't know what to do.

Alistair and Maddie? I couldn't see them together, but if they both liked each other  I had to help them.

---Are you sure? Maybe I could observe them more closely.

The reply came back in a matter of seconds.

---I just need help. I feel lost.

Poor Bunny.  I didn't exactly know what to do here. I guess I could just observe Alistair and Maddie for a little while. With the limited information I had, it was the best I could do.

---You don't need to worry about anything. I'm just gonna observe them for a while.

I really hoped Bunny could just find a happy, worry free place. In most situations like this, I would know exactly how to help the person in need. But Bunny had only been at EAH for a couple months. I had absolutely no idea what would cheer her up.

---Ok. Thx.

Bunny's reply was simple, and I could tell she was hoping for more of a real answer. Unfortunately, I didn't have one.

I sighed and looked around. It was a fairy beautiful day. A cool breeze whirled around the courtyard and whipped through my hair. I reluctantly stood up, brushed off my skirt, and began the trek back to my dorm.  I would have to apologize to Blondie. Hopefully I hadn't damaged anything relationship wise.
------

I tentatively knocked on the door and heard Blondie's faux bear fur boots click across the floor. The door creaked open,

"Hello?" Blondie's cheerful voice asked. Then she saw me. "Oh, it's you. Well, I guess I can't force you away. Come in." She said begrudgingly. I took a deep breath.

"Blondie, I'm sorry. I just lost control and got upset. It's an old habit from...where I came from."

"Well, maybe you could learn to control it!" Blondie retorted, her head buried in a hextbook. Apologizing to her would be harder than I thought.

"Do you want to...I don't know...that fashion boutique that just opened later? My treat." Blondie's head was cocked my way, so I knew she was listening. But it still wasn't enough to grab her attention.

"I hear they have a fablesome faux fur line." Blondie whirled around.

"Really? We should definitely go! And you don't have to pay for it. It's okay. And I'm sorry I was grumpy earlier." She sat down again on her white chair. "By the way, where did you come from?"

I jammed my earbuds in my ears. "Lots of homework! Got to finish it all if we're gonna go shopping later!"

Blondie shook her head and started on some new homework.
------
I had just finished sliding on my light pink flats when I remembered my promise to Bunny. But how was I going to observe the two supposed lovebirds closely? I had no classes with Alistair and was only in Chemythstry with Maddie. Maybe Blondie knew. After all, she seemed to always be able to discover very well hidden details and stories.

"Blondie?"

"Yeah?" She asked as she slid on a gold jacket with faux bear fur cuffs.

"Well, I was just wondering...how do you discover so many stories? I mean, your show has some of the juiciest, most well hidden secrets documented! How do you do it?" I asked, probably too innocently.

Blondie didn't seem to pick it up. "Well, I probably shouldn't tell you..."

"Please? It would really help me!"

"With your show?"

"Uh...."

"Oh, alright!" Yes! Blondie couldn't keep a secret for long. She walked over to me.

"I get Humphrey to tweak the school cameras sometimes....but you didn't hear that from me!" She snatched her backpack and flew out the door.

She messed with the school security system?! Isn't that breaking a school rule?! If anyone found out Blondie would be in serious trouble. However, it was the only option I had. I couldn't fail Bunny now.

-------

Cautiously, I opened the door to the Computer Lab. Humphrey was usually in here in the morning.

"Hello?" Humphrey's squeaky voice asked. "Dex, is that you?"

"Uh...hi Humphrey. It's Cupid....actually." Humphrey came awkwardly ambling through the rows of computers.

"Cupid? What are you doing here?" I gave him a small smile.

"Um...Blondie recommended me to you for some help." Humphrey looked at me suspiciously.

"What kind of help?"

"Well, let's just say she told me how she discovers some of her more...juicier stories..."

"SHE TOLD YOU?!"

"Yes..."

"Well what do you want to use it for? I don't do it for just anyone."

"Humphrey, I was transferred to this school for matchmaking. I need you to tweak the security system so I can continue my job here." That was sort of true. I was only allowed to matchmake people who had a destiny together. But since not even half the school had signed the Storybook of Legends, I decided it was okay.

"Uh...well..."

"Humphrey, I won't tell anyone! Just tweak the darn MirrorNet!" Humphrey back away in surprise. Well, that's the second time this week. Grr.

"Uh...okay...sure Cupid..." He rushed over to a computer. I walked over and put my hand on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry Humphrey. This job is just really important to me, and I guess I just go upset. Thanks for helping me by the way!" Humphrey looked up and smiled.

"Ok, so what do you need?" Luckily I had known this question was coming last night.

"Can you tweak the school security cameras in the Wonderology classroom so that I can see what they record on my mirrorphone as it's happening?" It was the only class I knew Bunny and Alistair had together and the only class I could observe them in.

"That's an interesting request, but I'll do it. As long as you don't tell anyone." He looked me right in the eyes.

"I promise I won't." Humphrey seemed to believe me.

"Okay then, this will take a little bit." I looked at the tarnished gold and silver clock on the wall.

"Is it okay if I go get breakfast? I'm starving." To prove my point my stomach rumbled.

"Well, actually first you need to download the Incognito app. It will allow you view what the cameras see if you enter in a special code. What's your mirrorphone number? I'll hext you the code when I'm done." I wrote down my number on a piece of paper and started off the breakfast.

Walking down the hallway, I noticed Alistair and Bunny chatting happily as they went towards the castleteria. Alistair certainly seemed to be enjoying his conversation with Bunny, and his body language told me he was almost a little over excited to be with her. I had always thought that he liked Bunny, and this certainly seemed to prove my idea right, but I had to keep observing until I had solid proof for Bunny.

I grabbed a bowl of yogurt and granola and sat down at a table with Cerise, Ashlynn and Blondie. Suddenly, the soft sound of a harp's strum rang from my phone. I grabbed it out of my white short's pocket and under the table saw it was a hext from Humphrey.

---All set. The code is: 11CaMeRaWyCdHeah. From, Humphrey

Strange code, but I typed it in the Incognito app and instantly I could see the Wonderology classroom. Mr. Hatter was sitting on a purple and turquoise toadstool drinking tea. I turned off my phone and stuffed it my pocket.

"Cupid?" I looked up to see Ashlynn and Blondie staring at me. Cerise was too occupied by her bacon.

"What?"

"Good morning! I've been trying to grab your attention for the last 3 minutes. What were you doing?"

"Texting." Ashlynn was shocked. As a princess she (almost) never broke the rules.

"You know it's against the rules to be texting in school." I smiled.

"School hasn't even started yet. Relax. Besides, I'm not the only one who breaks the rules. " I looked over at Hunter, who was talking to Patrick Pan and Bartholomew Bear. Ashlynn blushed.

"Well, the Storybook of Legends hasn't been found, so I think we're FINE." She was still blushing a dainty pink.

"You guys, the bell rings in 5 minutes and none of you are done with your breakfast. Stop arguing and eat!" Cerise had finished three plates of bacon and eggs. That girl sure did have an appetite.

We quickly ate a couple more bites of our food, and then the bell rang. Oh hex! My first class was Archery. In my haste to get everything else arranged, I forgot about that. I wouldn't be able to use my phone during Archery!

The only way I could possibly get out of it was to fake hurt. However, I couldn't just get out of Archery. I had to have a pass, and a pass for this kind of situation only came from the nurse. I checked the clock. I wouldn't have enough time to try to get a pass from the nurse and make it to Archery on time. If I managed to get a pass out of the nurse however, it wouldn't be a problem.

-------

I entered the nurse's office. It smelled like rubbing alcohol and new band aids. I couldn't see Nurse Godmother anywhere. There was a little silver bell on her desk and I picked it and rang it. A sweet silver tinkling sound broke the silence of the office. I saw the nurse's rosy face peer out from behind a big white curtain.

"What do you want?!" She was clearly a little frustrated.

"I...uh...just need a pass from...er...Archery." The stout nurse came over and sat down at her desk. She pulled out a red, purple and gold pen.

"Ok, name?"

"C.A. Cupid." This was the part where it was going to get tricky. The nurse was going to have to check me to see if I really had an injury. Suddenly, a big puff of green exploded over the top of the white curtain, leaving green specks on the pure white ceiling and a stinky smell filled the air.

"Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!" Nurse Godmother started writing faster.

To my surprise she quickly scribbled down the rest of the information and ripped the cream colored parchment off of the pass pack. What a stroke of luck! As soon as she handed me the pass, I practically ran out of the nurse's office.

-------

I made it to Archery 5 minutes late. Mr. G watched me angrily.

"Cupid! Why are you late?!" I gave him my pass. He grunted.

"Alright, sit down on that bench." I slowly walked over to it, limping slightly as I went. When everyone else was down by the targets, I pulled out my mirrorphone and tapped on the Incognito app. I could clearly see the Wonderology classroom and all the students in it. Max Hare was sitting in a corner looking desultory as Mr. Hatter tried to coax him to join in the class, Lizzie was talking about something that required wild hand gestures with Kitty and Alistair, Maddie, Cari and Bunny were chatting.

I watched Alistair and Maddie closely. Maddie seemed to be her own self, and there were absolutely no embarrassed body language coming from her. If she did indeed like Alistair, then there would be limited movement coming from her, and a shy smile. I wished I could hear their conversation. That would help so much!

Since I could definitely tell that Maddie had no feelings for Alistair, I moved my attentions to the boy in question. He was definitely exhibiting some embarrassment and happiness towards one of the girls. It definitely wasn't Cari. She wasn't even paying attention to the conversation.

Bunny said something, her turquoise eyes shining. Alistair laughed. It really was a sweet picture. As the class went on, I caught Alistair glancing Bunny's way several times. He helped her with something she didn't understand. And while he went over and talked to Maddie a couple times, there wasn't the same vibe coming of of him as there was when he was with Bunny.

Watching Alistair hold the door for Bunny as she walked out into the hallway to get something, I knew the answer to Bunny's dilemma. Alistair definitely didn't have a crush on Maddie. I could already tell from one period.

First period was almost over, so I quickly hexted Bunny.

---Alistair definitely likes you!

My finger hovered over the send button. I didn't want to interfere with this love story. I'd have to let the pages unfold without interference. I deleted my text. While it was surely the firm answer Bunny was looking for, I couldn't let her hear it from me. She would have to find out for herself. Instead I typed a different hext.

---You don't need to worry about Maddie. Focus on finding your own love story! ❤️

I pressed the send button and stuffed my phone in my pocket. The class was walking back towards me. Mr. Gingerbreadman gave me an impatient look.

"Go to your next class. That pass will get you out of Grimmnastics as well." He said with a humph. I got up off the bench and limping a little walked back towards the school. Dexter came up beside me.

"For someone with a hurt ankle, you sure look cheerful." I smiled at him.

"Let's just say it's already looking out to be a pretty fairytastic day."
_____________

Bunny's POV

I sat down at the creamy marble desk in my dorm room. The legs of the table and chairs were decorated with painted carvings of flowers and toadstools, probably an attempt to make us feel more at home in Wonderland. It doesn't really work though. Cari's giant flower bed seems more wonderlandiful then whimsically decorated table legs.

It had been a pretty rough day. After what happened at breakfast, I didn't see much of Alistair. That was probably a good thing though. I didn't want to keep feeling upset around him. I just couldn't stop thinking about Maddie. What did she have that I didn't?! In fact, I even made more sense than she did! Half the time Maddie spoke in Riddlish. But maybe Alistair liked that! Wait a second...Maddie is my friend! I can't say such awful things about her.

I slumped in my chair and sighed. The sooner Cupid got my hext the better. Cari came in the door and leaned over my chair.

"Hi. How's your day been?" I looked up at her light blue face. She smiled down at me. "Ok, so you're not going to answer me? Fine. Where were you in Wonderology. You just bounced off." Ugh, I knew this question was coming.

"Uhhh...well, I went to go take care of that...thing...and then I...uh...tripped over a toadstool growing in the floor as I was running back to Wonderology...and I had to go to the nurse." Cari wasn't entirely convinced, but she let it go. She sat down in a chair next to me and started working on her thronework. Suddenly, my mirrorphone rang, letting me know I had a hext. I grabbed my turquoise mirrorphone and saw I had a hext from Cupid! Finally!

----Hi Bunny. I'd be happy to help you! It's what I'm here for! What's up?

Good, she wanted to help me. I don't know what I would have done without her help. I hexted my reply in the blink of an eye. I wanted to get the final answer as soon as possible.

----Thanks so much Cupid. I really need ur help. I have an issue with Alistair. Please don't tell anyone.

I clicked the send button and started on my Crownunculus homework.

"Cari, did we have any thronework in Wonderology?" She shook her head no, and one of her purple braids slapped her face. I giggled.

"Are you okay?" I said, smiling.

"Yep." My mirrorphone rang again. I had another hext from Cupid.

----Of course I won't tell anyone. So what's wrong with Alistair?

How could I even begin to explain my problem? I couldn't explain it all in a 500 page book, much less a short hext. I took a deep breath and decided to let my brain sort out the most important parts. I started typing, closing my eyes and not thinking hard about it. I suddenly stopped, and looked down at my phone.

---Well, I have a huge crush on Alistair, but he doesn't like me. I think he likes Maddie and vice versa. They both clearly like each other and I don't know what to do.

It made sense and Cupid could probably get the idea of the situation. I sent it to her. Though I was eager for her reply, I had homework to do. Cari was buried in her Magicology hextbook, and wasn't paying any attention to me. We didn't talk much when there was thronework to be done anyways.
-----
Five minutes later I still didn't get a hext back from Cupid. What was taking her so long?! That must have been a gigantic thronework load for her to not be able to send one small hext. I sighed deeply. Why was she making me wait like this?!

Cari looked up from her thronework. "What's wrong Bunny? You've been grumpy all day." I sighed again. I did not want to answer this question. Cari seemed to understand. BFFAS always do.

"Ok...well then I think I just might know what would cheer you up!" Cari grabbed her periwinkle mirrorphone. "So, you've read the Hunger Games right?" I nodded, my interest slightly peaked. I did really like that series!

"Then watch this!" She thrust her mirrorphone into my hand and pressed play on a video on YouTube. It was fairy hilarious! The video cheered me up right away.

"Thanks Cari! That was fablesome." She smiled. My mirrorphone pinged. I whirled around and grabbed it. FINALLY! Cupid hexted me back!

---Are you sure? Maybe I could observe them more closely.

I read her message, and a sinking feeling filled my chest. Cupid is a matchmaker! Surely she has special abilities that allow her to know crushes right off the bat! She really didn't have any of those powers?! My heart sank even deeper in my chest. I was mad at her, and upset at them same time. I quickly replied to her hext, hoping maybe her next hext would provide more solid facts.

---I just need help. I feel lost.

I slumped in my chair again. Cari looked over at me.

"Do you want to order pizza instead of going down to the castleteria for dinner? I'll pay." My stomach rumbled. Suddenly pizza sounded REALLY good.

"Sure. Get Little Boy Blue pizza please." Cari pulled out her mirrorphone.

"I'm up for a veggie pizza. You?" I nodded. Being part rabbit, vegetables are THE most important food group, and also the yummiest. Well, to me at least. And with Cari being part caterpillar, we have very similar tastes.

As Cari was ordering the pizza, I got another hext from Cupid.

---You don't need to worry about anything. I'm just gonna observe them for a while.

There was plenty to be worried about! Why wouldn't she give me a firm answer?! Did this mean Alistair didn't like me and she just didn't want to say it right away?! Why was she leaving me hanging like this?! I typed the only reply I could muster without saying anything angry or upsetting.

---Ok. Thx.

A simple reply, but I was the best I could do. After I sent it, I ran over to my bed and collapsed into the pillows. I didn't let myself sob, but a few tears dripped out. I could hear Cari walk over to me.

"Lots of homework? Rough day?"

"Cari, I'm fine. I'm just...uh...tired."

"Okay, well then I'm gonna keep working on homework. Are you sure you don't need anything?" I thought long and hard about that. What I needed she couldn't give me. But maybe...

"Could you get a mint hocus latte for me? I'll pay you back later." I sat up, and wiped the stray tears from my cheek.

"Sure." She slid on some shoes, grabbed her purse and left the room. Finally, peace and quiet. I laced down on my bed and allowed myself to sob my heart out. Hopefully no one would hear.

-------------

I checked my alarm clock. It was 4:40 in the morning. I climbed out of bed and rubbed my eyes. I couldn't sleep anymore. I looked over at Cari, her purple hair a mess on the pillow. It was going to be a long day.

-------------

I had barely survived. It was a long day, and I had waited and waited for Cupid's answer. I hadn't allowed myself to bring my phone with me to classes because I didn't want to get in trouble. I started my homework half heartedly. After finishing my Hexonomics homework, I allowed myself to check my phone. I had a hext from Cupid! Finally! Now I would find out the answer to my dilemma. I hurriedly typed in my mirrorphone password in so I could see my final answer.

Don't get so excited. I told myself. He might actually like Maddie or neither of us. But reading Cupid's hext was still important to me, because I would know the next step to take.

---You don't need to worry about Maddie. Focus on finding your own love story! ❤️

As I read the hext, I wasn't sure what to do. This was her final word on the subject it seemed, and it wasn't really firm either. But what I took from the hext is that she was telling me to go after the love story I thought was right for me. Well, the love story I thought was right was a Happily Ever After with Alistair.

So was this her support for my crush on Alistair? It seemed like it. I decided that that was what I would go after. My conclusion from her hext is that I should do just that. And while I had no proof that it would turn out the way I wanted to, Cupid thought that I should still go after it anyways and that would be good enough for me.

My aching heart was suddenly pacified. I drew back the pink curtains covering the window and opened it. A pleasant breeze blew in, whipping around my short white hair and brushing past my cheeks. A butterfly flew in and landed on my shoulder. It seemed like a scene from a fairytale. My spirits were lifted, and I knew the course my life should take.

Follow my heart.

----------

HIIII GUYS!!! We are sooooo sorry this update took SO long. Tech week is getting closer for the musical! Also...well homework happened.

But anyways, hope you like the chapter. I know it's short, I honestly hate this chapter...well kind of. It's just we don't really ship Bunnistair or Maddistair (please don't get upset) but back when we were new to Wattpad we wanted to please everyone and in the comments someone said "Do Bunnistair or Maddistair!" And we did in Chapter 3. Now we actually know where our story is going and our two main ships will be Dizzie and Rexter. So this will most likely be Bunny's final say and the last you will see in depth of definitely Alistair and probably Bunny. Just a heads up. If you don't like that, sorry, you don't have to read this book anymore.

Also, the name Hedgehogs won for the name for our followers, so if you all are referred to as hedgehogs...that's where it came from.

And that's all for now! Oh! And the video mentioned in the chapter actually exists. If you're a Hunger Games fan, I suggest you watch it! Link down below.
