Crush
Talyn bit their bottom lip. "Uh oh..."
"Uh oh, what?" Mumbled Joan sleepily.
"We're low on gas."
"Damnit..." Hissed Joan, scrambling in their seat. They'd been driving non-stop since the beach, incident, Virgil having to take the wheel overnight under the guidance of ghosts. "We'll have to stop, then... We can't just run on zero gas!"
Thomas yawned, looking up from where he'd been dozing earlier, on the bench. "What's up?"
"We're going to need to stop and get gas," Talyn explained, pulling the camper-van across a lane as a sign about a McDonalds-Starbucks-gas station-bed and breakfast-merged-into-one showed up.
"Is there a problem?" Logan asked, making the three mortals jump. He tilted his head. "I am sorry for any alarm I may have caused. What is the issue?"
Joan shrugged. "We're going to need to get gas but that means we'll have to stop and that gives those weird dudes more time to catch us up."
"Ah, I see. Would you prefer I do this task? Neither of the men got to see me very well and it may help if someone unfamiliar to them is caught on your CCTV cameras." Offered Logan as Talyn began to slow down.
Thomas blinked at him drowsily. "No offence, Logan, but you are far too awake for someone who's been on the road non-stop for over a day and it's 1:30 in the morning. Besides, I need to remind myself how to walk."
Logan frowned. "You've forgotten?"
"No, I just need to stretch my legs, that's all I meant."
"Stretching your legs sounds like a form of physical torture. You'd be forcing them to grow unnaturally and could do severe damage if-"
"Logan." Said Joan, spinning around in the chair. "It's a figure of speech. Shut up."
Roman yawned loudly from the large set of seats at the back of the camper-van. "Could you all keep it down, I am trying to rest!" He complained at an obnoxious volume.
"You complain about our conversation, yet you manage to be louder than all four of us." Sighed Logan impatiently.
"Quiet, Logan, you've woken me up with your logic now," Roman said, with a dramatic surrendered as he stood from the seat.
There was a small popping noise as Virgil's' trap door opened. Patton poked his head out. "Shush, you guys! Virgie needs his sleep!"
Roman opened his mouth to answer back than hesitated. "Why are you up there, Patton?"
"Because," Growled Virgil's' muffled voice, "He was helping me sleep then he fell asleep himself and I couldn't be bothered to move him."
Patton gasped. "Virgil, that's a lie, you fell asleep first!"
"Shuddup, I'm not sleepy..." Mumbled Virgil, voice sounding meek. His statement was followed by a kitten-like yawn.
"Aww, I forgot you yawned like that!" Patton squealed. He jumped away from the trap door and, judging by the thump, had tackled Virgil in a hug.
Talyn sighed loudly, before saying, "That's really cute, you two, but I'm trying to make sure we don't crash."
The two cousins muttered an apology and Patton began to leave the bed. He dropped down, stumbling into Logan as his feet hit the ground. Virgil followed soon after, unphased by the small fall. He was wrapped up in the fluffiest looking blanket, the pattern black with small purple circles dotted across in a funny pattern. He gave another kitten-yawn, walking forwards and nestling down on one of the seats by Thomas, trying his hardest to look awake but nearly falling asleep anyway. Patton bounced over to sit next to him.
The camper-van pulled into the car park, driving slowly down the lanes until it reached the gas station. Talyn stood from the drivers' seat, pulling out the keys. "Alright, y'all, I want you to get some McDonalds. Don't bother returning without some." They ordered, chasing their friends out. They hopped out, pushing them away from the caravan, before turning to beckon Virgil. "You too, emo, out you go!"
Virgil pouted, reluctantly unwrapping himself from the blankets. He wasn't wearing Thomas's' jacket and looked incredibly frail and breakable in a skinny-fit long-sleeve and skinny black jeans. He stopped at the edge of the camper-van, pulling on his purple sneakers before letting Patton pull him out.
Logan almost flinched at the closeness of the two, despite knowing their relationship was completely platonic. I mean, it was perfectly normal to get jealous over something like that, especially when it involves the boy you didn't even know you had a crush on until the jealousy hit. Right?
Out of paranoia, Logan reached for the Book, letting it open to a random page as he asked it. That was far too much of an explanation and Logan found himself too tired to bother reading it. He sighed, slipping the Book away, and found himself suddenly faced by Roman.
"What?" Asked Logan.
"What?" Echoed Roman, smirking. "I just think that's a curious thing to ask the Book."
Logan glared defensively. "How do you know what I asked it?"
Roman, to his credit, dropped his voice to a whisper as he replied, "I don't know what exactly you asked, but I skim-read the answer and it said it's perfectly normal to feel jealous of a close relationship the person you may feel romantic feelings for has with another."
"And are you going to tell everyone?" Logan grumbled crossly.
"No, you're my friend! But, seriously, who is it?" Roman queried, trying to catch Logan's' eye.
The intellectual turned a brief pink at the thought of him.
Roman raised an eyebrow with a cocky grin. "Is it... Thomas?"
"No."
"Is it Joan?"
"No."
"Talyn?"
"No."
"Virgil?"
"Look, Roman, I'm not going to tell you!"
Roman gasped excitedly. "Oh my god, you didn't say no! It's Virgil, isn't it?" Why did that make Roman feel so wrong?
"No, it's not Virgil."
How come that made Roman feel better?
The attractive god pouted. "Who is it? I'll keep asking until you tell me!" He threatened.
"Fine, I believe I have feelings for... Patton." Sighed Logan in defeat.
Roman thought for a moment. "Okay, you'd be so perfect for each other. I have to set you two up!"
Logan paled slightly. "What-? No, Roman, don't!"
"Trust me, Lo, I'll be so subtle, you would not even know I'm doing it even though I've just told you!" Roman promised.
"Somehow that doesn't make me feel any better..."
Roman gasped, offended.
