A Plan
With Thomas gone, no one was really the same. Patton was a constant electric charge. He'd give people static shocks left, right and centre. You didn't even need to be near him to feel the static energy that radiated off him in waves. Logan was the one who often took the most of Patton's' shocks because he wasn't afraid to take the other's' hand when Patton was in distress. He'd often by touching Patton when in public, in order to stop Patton from shocking a random mortal. Virgil was more closed off than ever. He didn't talk much to Talyn and Joan anymore, he kept to the other gods, specifically Patton. Roman was just charming every person he could. It was probably a control thing. He wanted to force his magic upon people to feel like there was something he could still do. Maybe half of the people they had passed by were going to dream of seeing Roman and even more had been charmed.
Talyn was persevering. They were the driving force of the broken team, keeping them moving with a smile on their face. But, sometimes, Joan would see their friend just break down.
Joan seemed to be okay. Keyword, seemed. Honestly, they were probably the worst off out of everyone. They didn't ever let the others see.
Virgil was taking over Thomas's' turn when it came to driving. He was the only other person, besides Talyn and Joan, who could drive. But, at the moment, he wasn't driving. No one was. Everyone was supposed to be sleeping, pulled over in a nearby campsite's' parking lot.
Patton woke up by an icy-cold hand shaking his shoulder. He rolled over to look up at Virgil who shushed him softly. Zeus's' son frowned and gently pushed the other two, sleeping gods awake, gushing them before they made a sound. The four moved silently out of the shared bedroom, all of them risking a few glances to the slumbering mortals.
Virgil opened the campervan door soundlessly and stepped out, the others following him.
"Why in Olympus are you waking us up this early?" Roman whispered crossly, rubbing his arms to the stinging cold of midnight.
"I know where Thomas is," Virgil said. "We're nearby, we could get to him now."
Logan was quickly awake. "And that's all? Virgil, I've known where Thomas is being held for days, the Book says he's being held in a max security, secret government building, there's no way we'll be able to get him out."
Patton hesitated. "How did you find out?"
Virgil turned to his right and two silhouettes fizzed and appeared.
"Meet Remy and Emile," Virgil said as the figures solidified. "Deaths, second of July, 1969, killed in the panic of their parents when they found out they had taken part in the Stonewall riots and were in a relationship together."
The three gods exchanged a glance and one of the ghosts, wearing dark sunglasses tipped a glass to them. "Yo. I'm Remy. Emile and I were floating around, y'know, doing ghost shit when we saw your friend in this big-ass building. So, we looked around and-"
The other ghost, Emile, jumped into the conversation. "On the south-east of the building, there is a ventilation shaft, hidden behind a collection of shrub and bush. During shift change, it is left unguarded for six minutes. The ventilation shaft leads straight to the control room-"
"-Major design flaw," Remy interrupted, distracting Emile.
"Yeah, it is," Emile agreed. "Like, really, you'd think that-"
Virgil cleared his throat, blushing with embarrassment at his dead friends. "Back to the ventilation shaft, please?"
The two ghosts quickly put themselves back on track. "Yes, right, well," Remy said. "That's where you'll probably get your first encounter. The shaft opens up behind the person who'll be watching the cameras, so you can get a sneak attack in there. Then, using the cameras, or the Book, you find where Thomas is, sneak your way in and beat your way out."
When Remy finished, Virgil turned to the gods with an eager look in his black eyes. "We have to go, this is the closest place we'll be able to get to without needing Joan and Talyn to drive us over, which we really don't want because they'll want to come with us-"
Patton held up his hand. "Sorry for interrupting, kiddo, but why don't we want Joan and Talyn to come with us?"
"Uh, they're mortal?"
Roman shook his head. "Joan isn't."
"Actually, they are," Logan said. "The remainder of Virgil's' blood that they consumed able don't when they had been shot back in the shopping market. They are now, once again, mortal."
Patton and Roman looked at each other.
"I'm in," Declared Logan. "The sooner we get Thomas back, the sooner we stop hanging around and the sooner we get back home."
Roman shrugged with a sigh. "Yeah... Getting Thomas back would be good. And I really want to punch those agents in the face."
Patton hesitated. "But... Joan and Talyn-"
"We can leave them a note," Shrugged Virgil. "But we've gotta go tonight, before we move too far away. I'll get us there."
Logan blinked. "How?"
Hades's' son didn't bother hiding a smirk. "You'll find out."
