On the day of your graduation from the Academy, Arima was late. Everyone else were with their friends and family, taking pictures, sharing stories while you waited by the gate.

A few minutes later, you spotted him running towards you with a black casing strapped to his shoulders.

"I-I'm sor-ry, I'm l-late." He panted, leaning against the wall you stood in front of.

"It's alright," you smiled, "what's that?" You asked, looking at the casing. He looked at you and calmed his breathing before he straightened up and asked, "(Y/N), do you really want to be an investigator?"

"Y-"

"Tell me honestly," he cut you off, sensing that you were about to lie, "your answer will change everything." His face was flushed red, not only due to his running but also because his heart was racing as he looked at you. The way your eyes looked at his, the way your lips always seemed to be smiling, even just a little.

He didn't want you to die. He didn't want you to throw away your life for him. Arima was prepared for you to tell him "no," so that he could be sure that you would be safe. Anywhere was safe away from him.

"Yes."

"I don't want to stop now," you chuckled, "I've already come this far. I'm not going to give up just to live a cushy life."

"B-"

"Arima Kishou." You gripped his shoulders and looked him in the eye. "I'd rather live a dangerous life with you than live safely but without you. After all, aren't you the best? I'm sure I'll be safe with you."
