Part Five
An Autobiography ~
~ All About Adenomyosis
Adenomyosis {Adeno} is a condition where the endometrial tissue only exists within the uterine walls and grows only inside the uterus walls and muscles. Whereas for instance Endometriosis {Endo} where the endometrial tissue, similar to the lining of the uterus grows and can spread to the outside of your uterus and on any nearby organs. Adenomyosis is just like, Endometriosis can lead to inflammation and scar tissues to form and grow inside the uterus. So basically, that means you're internally bleeding in the inside of your uterus.
Adenomyosis can be hard to identify as they say, you need to have a Hysterectomy to be diagnosed but not always. A Hysterectomy is a major surgery that consists of the removal of the uterus, the cervix, the ovaries {oophorectomy}, the fallopian tubes {salpingectomy} and other surrounding internal female reproductive organs. But you don't need a Hysterectomy, you can see the disease on ultrasound or by a MRI Scan but Adeno can be difficult to spot just like Endo.
Adenomyosis can or may occur during late childbearing years and can or may typically disappear after menopause but that may be a myth as you might just be lucky enough to get the disease. Of course, Adeno requires a medical diagnosis as Adenomyosis is a sister to Endometriosis as they're very similar in ways but also different and can or may be hard to differentiate between the two. Adeno is more rare compared to Endo. Whereas Endometriosis is much more common in women.
The pain of Adenomyosis is very similar in ways to Endometriosis, however, Adeno pain while on a period can cause: minor, to mild, to moderat, to severe, to chronic, to debilitating, to knife-like, to extreme pain in the uterus, lower abdomen and stomach and it can also cause pain/blood during intercourse and after intercourse, irregular and prolonged heavy periods with added spotting and blood clots. The pain of menstruation can or may also cause body numbness due to the increasing amount of pain. The numbness can last for a short or a long period at a time, shocking up and down the legs and shocking in the pelvic region; depending how long your menstruation cycle may last at a time.
Adenomyosis symptoms are very variable and broad, as it's difficult to be diagnosed with this rare disease. Certain individuals might not be aware of the condition yourself as I'm sure you thought that having a painful period is considered as, "normal periods". You also might not be aware of the condition yourself as you might be a-symptomatic all your life and not realise you have the disease as well. Or if you have really painful periods and bleed very heavily on your periods and have very irregular periods and your periods are prolonged and can or may last longer than a week at a time. So, it's always safe to get checked out with a private Gynaecologist just to be sure. If Adeno is hereditary in the family, definitely get checked out or you may be just one of those lucky ones; whom, like me, you were just lucky enough to get it by a coincidence.
If you are someone or you may know someone who is experiencing and suffering with this disease...know that you are not alone and there is hope. Stay strong. 🎗
~ The Heart Weights Heavily
you leave a sour bittersweet heaviness in my heart
it's poisonous and addictive at the same time
you have an invisible hold over me unlike no other
it's because of you my heart becomes enraged full of bitterness
you can threaten me
you can abuse me
you can bruise me
you can torture me
because i know, deep down
i deserve forever lasting suffering
i deserve the pain, the hurting
of ever-lasting and never-ending anguish
