My Brother - Chapter 10

Amelia's POV:

"I don't mean to ruin the moment, but did you say something about a white mask that was on Amelia's front porch?" Olivia asked.

"Oh, right!" I said, pulling away from the hug.

"Yeah, it was very weird," Josh began. "I just walked up to the front porch, and there was a white mask just sitting there on the 'welcome' mat." Josh continued.

"Did you see anyone suspicious, around the neighborhood when you came over?" Brett asked.

"Nope. I didn't really see anything. Sorry guys. Why are you asking anyways?" Josh said.

We all looked at one another and then nodded. Hen, we explained everything that had happened with the notes, the white box, the knife and the dagger necklace.

"Can you guys help us figure out who did it?" Ashely asked.

"I mean, we don't know who did it. But, sure we'll help!" Cole said.

Bryson and Josh nodded their heads in agreement.

We all decided to go back to my house, and try to look at the other note that appeared on the front porch. We didn't get a chance to look at it earlier.

I put the note on the counter, and everybody gathered around us. Josh put his arms around my waist. It made me feel safe, and loved. Which, I also don't feel very often, considering what I've been through. Especially, recently.

"Amelia, use gloves to open the note, in case there's fingerprints on it or something." Ashely said.

I nodded my head and reached in a cabinet in the kitchen for some plastic gloves. I put them on.

Then, I began to slowly open up the note. On the front of the note, it said only one word. One word that could make someone cry. One word that could end someone's life. One word, to have someone shiver. One word that explains a lot. One word that could involve a rope with a knot. One word just to make someone cry. One word, and that word was 'DIE'

I finished unfolding the note, and placed it down on the counter for everyone to see. We gasped.

Josh's arms tightened on my waist.

I squeaked.

"Oh, oops! Sorry, sis." Josh said.

"It's fine, bro." I said.

He smiled at my little nickname for him.

I turned my attention back to the note that was on the counter.

Ding Dong!

We all gasped. "I'll get it!" I said. Everyone nodded.

Josh let go of my waist. "Be careful" he said. I nodded.

I ran to the front door, but looked out the window first.

"It's my parents!" I said.

"Then...it's my parents!" Josh said.

We smiled.

"No, but I mean...they don't know about all of this. So no one tell them, please. Because if we do, my parents..." I began. Then, I looked at Josh. "Josh and I's parents will think it's not safe for us, and then we'll have to move, and I don't want to leave you guys! We can figure this out on our own. I believe in us! We're a team!" I said.

Everyone smiled and nodded.

"A team!" Olivia said.

Everyone agreed.

"Awesome!" Brandon said. We laughed.

"Okay, so everyone quit I'll hide all the evidence and notes." I said.

Soon enough, the counter was cleared and the evidence was hidden in our backpacks.

I unlocked the front door and opened it.

"Hey, mom! Hey, dad!" I said. "Hi, sweetie! How are you?" My mom asked. "I'm fine, thanks. How are you guys?" I asked. "We're fine, thank you." She said.

"Oh, and who might these ladies and gentleman be?" My dad asked. "Amelia, I didn't know you were having a party," my mom said. "No, it's not a party. These are just my friends!" I said. "Oh, really? Friends?" My mom asked, surprised. But...I don't blame her.

"Yeah." I said, shyly and embarrassed.

My parents greeted everyone.

Soon enough, my friends had to go home for dinner and homework. Ew, I hate homework.

I asked them if I could introduce them to Josh. Of course!" My mom said.

I nodded my head and brought Josh over to meet my parents. "Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Brook. I'm Josh. Nice to meet you!"

"Nice to meet you too, Josh!" My parents said.

Josh and I looked at  each other and smiled.

"Mom, dad. Can we talk to you for a second?" I asked.

They nodded. We all walked into the living room. Josh and I sat on one couch, and my mom and dad sat on the other.

"So, Josh and I....are siblings." I blurted out.

"What? That's crazy." My mom said.

"I know, Mrs. Brook. But, it's true." Josh said. "When I was younger I found out I was adopted and that I had a sister. And a few days ago, I found out her name was Amelia." He continued.

My mom and dad looked at each other.

"Okay, we'll tell you guys the truth, yes. You are related. Your brother and sister. The reason you guys got separated was because Amelia had troubles when she was younger. A lot younger." My mom said.

"Yes, Amelia, you might not remember but when you were little you would take scissors and you would hurt yourself. Even when you were little, you said that you got bullied. Not that much has changed since then. Since you still cut yourself. But, anyways, your mom and I thought that it was a bad influence on Josh, so we gave josh up for adoption. As much as it hurt us, we didn't want to continue to give you PTSD from Amelia's experiences. We're so so sorry, Josh." My dad said.

Even I didn't know all of that. I guess it's because of how long ago all of that happened.

Josh and I had tears in our eyes.

"Wait! You've been lying to me, this whole time?!" I shouted.

"Amelia, were so sorry. We should've told you." My parents said.

"Yeah. You should've." I said. Then, I walked upstairs to my room.

A little while later, I heard footsteps. Followed by a knock on my bedroom door. "Go away." I said.

But they didn't listen. The door opened, and in came Josh. My brother.

"Are you okay?" He asked, while sitting down on the bed.

"No."

"Why not? I mean, yes, they lied. But, at least we're together again." Josh said.

"Yeah, that is great. It's just...never mind."

"Tell me." He said.

"No."

"Tell me."

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yah."

"Nah."

"Please, sis?" He asked with puppy dog eyes.

I rolled my eyes. "Fine..."

"I have been through a lot...I've been bullied a lot. I've cried A LOT. I don't want this life. I never did. I never asked for this life. I wish it was all over. I wish...I wasn't me." I said. And with that, I got up from the bed and put my sneakers on. "Where are you going?" He asked, with a frown. "For a walk," I said, with tears streaming down my face. "Do you want me to come with you?" He asked. And then I came up with the only response I know.  "Nope, don't worry about it, I'm fine." I said, and then I'm asked out of the room.

I walked downstairs, and I saw my parents in the kitchen, they were drinking. I ignored them and walked out of the front door.

It was dark outside. I took out my phone to look at the time. It was 9:47PM. Well, that explains why it's so dark.

I put my phone back in my pocket. And continued walking along the sidewalk.

I heard something behind me.

What was that?!

My heart is racing.

I looked behind me, and I saw a silhouette of a figure. They were walking towards me.

I began running. I heard someone running behind me.

I turned around again and saw that they were closer to me than before.

I continued running, but I couldn't run anymore. I'm all out of breath. I need to stop. So, I did. I stopped running.

Then, someone grabbed my arm from behind. I squeaked.

I turned around and noticed the familiar face.

"You!?" I said.
