CHAPTER ONE: CAPTURED

It was a hot, sunny day in the jungles of Africa. In the bright sunlight small, thin clouds floated over the trees. It looked like small groups of fog here and there. Calls and roars from the animals below echoed throughout the jungle. It seemed like a ghost town.

Well...it wasn't.

Deep in the jungle, a large troop of chimpanzees was making their way through the hot jungle. They stayed together, pushing through thick bushes, over logs, and past the trees. They were moving quickly and silently like they were trying to get away from something.

Suddenly, in the trees above, the branches started moving and leaves began to fall. The apes stopped and looked up. Something was coming towards them, and fast! Some apes hooted in confusion while others got defensive. They huddled close to each other and stared up at the trees.

The figure above landed in front of them with a small grunt. The troop slowly relaxed and began to move again. They gave friendly hoots and grunts as they passed the figure. It was a human child. A human girl who has proven her loyalty many times. The human was no more than 11-year-old Zuri.

Zuri was an 11-year-old girl and very beautiful. She has long, beautiful wavy ginger hair that shined like a patch of fresh roses. Her eyes were almond-shaped and Sky Blue with soft eyelashes. Her skin was a Tan Peach color and Dark Brown Freckles on her cheeks and nose bridge.

Zuri's nails and teeth were razor-sharp, and her body was almost littered with scars. Her body was covered in a bit of mud and dirt. Her cropped shirt and micro skirt were made out of Golden Lion fur, which hugged her body tightly. Tied to her back was a spear with flowers and fangs for decoration.

Zuri exhaled deeply before smiling at the troop. She hooted greetings and waved at them, chirping at the little ones. The chimps greeted her back with waves, hoots, chirps, and grunts. Zuri bowed her head at them, looking for her parents. After a few moments of looking them over, she potted them and smiled widely. Her parents. Bright Eyes and Alpha.

They were walking in the middle of the troop, talking to each other. Zuri made a happy chirping sound and jogged toward them, the chimps moving out of her way.

The two ape parents paused from their conversations and looked to the side. Loving expressions appeared on their faces as their daughter approached them. Zuri hooted a happy greeting and hugged them close. The father wrapped a strong arm around her, grunting greetings. The mother pampered Zuri's face with kisses and nuzzles while cleaning her hair.

Zuri giggled at the affection from her mother. Suddenly, a large flock of birds flew over the trees, frightening the troop. The troop finally stopped moving and all went quiet. Zuri looked up, her body tensing up.

Nobody moved or made a sound.

In the bushes and trees around them, poachers surrounded them. Zuri took a few sniffs before growling softly, reaching for her spear. Pure silence rang through the forest, other than the sound of bugs buzzing.

The poachers suddenly sprinted out of their hiding places, making weird noises. The chimpanzees screeched in fear and quickly fled for safety. Alpha let out an angry shriek and quickly escorted his family after the troop. Zuri hissed worriedly and grabbed her mother's hand in a firm grip.

The chimps headed into large-leaved bushes to disappear from the danger. That didn't work out. There were men up in the trees that signaled where the chimps would be. The troop ran(also jumped) through the rocky river to escape, while others rushed through the trees.

No matter what happened, Alpha was determined to get his family to safety. Once the troop made it back to dry land, most of them began to split up.

Suddenly, an ape was snatched up in the air, screaming fearfully. There were traps hidden below! Alpha let out a loud shriek to warn the other apes. But, there was no way out. As the chimps continued on, more and more of them got snatched up in the traps.

Zuri watched in sadness and fear as the family she grew to love was snatched up. The mother chimp then tripped by dodging a net but was soon helped back onto her feet by Zuri and Alpha. 3 feet up ahead, two men came out of nowhere. They were holding a large net and making loud noises.

Alpha roared in anger and lunged at them. Zuri didn't dare to look back as she kept an iron grip on her mother's forearm. Bright Eyes called out to her mate, but Zuri chirped reassuringly to her. The chimp mother let out a fearful hoot before looking at her daughter. Zuri would've looked back at her mother, but she was too busy trying to get her mother to safety.

Off to the side slightly, a tall tree stood a few feet away. Zuri shrieked at her mother and pointed to the tree with her spear. The ape mother nodded and charged in that direction. The two females jumped onto the tree, before jumping off into a bushy area. Zuri grunted as she stumbled on the hard ground, her mother quickly helped her back onto her feet. Zuri grunted a 'thank you' before they continued.

But they didn't get too far.

Before they knew it, both were snatched up in a net. Zuri let out a frightened shriek, the spear falling out of her hand. The mother ape tried her best to break them out of the net. A man cut the rope that held the net up ad the two females fell into a large box. The lid shut tightly and locked. Zuri growled and hurled her body against the sides of the box. The men backed up from the box in slight fear. Zuri continued to do so, hissing loudly and in anger.

The mother held onto the sides of the box to stop her from smacking the sides of the box. She grunted for her daughter to stop, but Zuri didn't listen. The mother then grabbed Zuri by the arm and shrieked for her to stop. Zuri froze and stared at her mother, panting. She then looked down, tearing up and her bottom lip quivering.

Before the ape mother could say or do anything, the box was lifted and carried onto the back of the truck. Zuri and the ape mother held onto each other, Zuri burying her face into her mother's neck. The box made a loud thud noise as it hit the trunk. The trunk door was then shut tight and locked.

Zuri and the ape mother called out for Alpha and the rest of the troop. The truck started to drive away. The troop appeared but didn't approach the trucks since there were guns. But, she didn't see her father. Where was he?

Suddenly, a scent caught her attention. A scent that made her blood run cold and still. It was the scent of her father's blood. The scent was heavy and it made her feel sick. Tears rolled down her eyes as she covered her mouth and nose. Bright Eyes wrapped her arms around Zuri and brought her close. Zuri wrapped her own arms around her mother and sobbed into her shoulder.

The ape mother leaned back and let her tears fall from her eyes. What were they going to do?

Bright Eyes was in a small cell, playing with the Lucas Tower. It's where you have to stack circular blocks on each other without placing the bigger ones on the smaller ones. Bright Eyes didn't look so well. She looked skinnier. Her fur was sticking up everywhere and she looked exhausted. Around her neck was a collar that had a chain connected. And the chain was connected to a wall.

Bright Eyes was able to complete it with ease. She let out an exhalation before spinning the thing around to present it to the man in the room. The guy slid over in a rolling chair with a bowl of fresh grapes. "Hey. Okay now," he murmured before setting a grape on the desk for Bright Eyes. Bright Eyes quickly took the grape and ate it. "Let's go it again," the man continued softy.

Bright Eyes nodded and quickly restarted. A man soon appeared on the other side of the glass window, holding a folder. He had warm Beige Skin, and Curly Brown hair. He had on a white lab coat, and dark clothes under. He knocked on the glass window, catching the man's attention on the other side.

"Which one is this? Number 9?" The guy in the lab coat asked, looking into the folder.

"Yeah. Number 9, Bright Eyes," the other man replied to him before looking back at Bright Eyes.

He looked back at Bright Eyes before asking, "Are you watching this?"

Will looked up and through the window. His face changed from a flat expression to a surprised one.

"This...this is unbelievable. Oh my god," the man murmured as he continued to watch Bright Eyes. Bright Eyes moved faster and faster until she completed it again. She spun it around to present it again before snatching a grape and eating it.

"How many moved was that?" Will asked, his face full of shock.

"20. The perfect score is 15," Franklin replied, his face holding the same expression. Will stared at them for a few seconds before running out of the room.

"God, what--what are you feeding her?!" Franklin asked as he turned around to face Will. But Will was already out of his view.

"Hey, give me that footage!" Will shouted before he busted through the doors, completely leaving the room.

Zuri hugged her knees close, staring intensely at the window. She was in a hospital gown with shorts under it. Well, they were torn now and were stained with fresh blood and dirt. A cut on her cheek leaked warm blood, but she didn't react to it.

The room she was in was a total mess! There were cracks in the walls and ceiling, and small pebbles and dirt fell from the cracks. On the ground were small drops of blood that lead to the door, other places in the room, and over to Zuri. The glass window had a large slash across it, nearly shattering it into pieces.

But, Zuri wasn't bothered by any of it in the slightest. All of her attention was focused on what was on the other side of the room. The people on the other side of the window. Her pupils were now slits, and her eyes were...Emerald Green.

On the other side of the window, stood 3 figures. A security officer, a nurse, and a scientist. The officer was wounded. There was a bite mark on the side of his neck and a claw mark wound on his right arm. The nurse was tending to his wounds the best she could, while the scientist just stood there. She looked at Zure with amazement before breaking into a full sprint out of the room.

"Will! Will! You have to see this!" she yelled as she ran down the hall while a file in her hand.
