Part 7: The Team
/Yamaguchi's p.o.v./
The next day at school I turned onto the campus feeling actually quite happy, which by the way, never happens. Usually coming here would be making me want to shoot my brains out, but today I was just glad that I'd be able to see Tsuki again after the long weekend.
So yes he is a jerk who enjoys messing around and teasing more than the thought of ever being in any type of loving relationship with me, but that doesn't stop me from majorly crushing on him. And as much as I didn't want to admit it I was crushing on him... pretty hard to. I don't know of anyone who has every actually been on my mind as much as him. Besides my father... but obviously that's a different story...
"Hey, Yama~" a voice pierced my ears causing me to freeze in my tracks.
For a second I almost thought the voice belonged to Tsuki and that he was teasing me with the nickname like he had Friday night, but sadly my silent prayers weren't answered.
"Heard you tried out for the volleyball team." The main leader in the group of his bullies chuckled as they all practically surrounded him like prey, backing him up against the wall. "That was quite a surprise, but it's not like a pathetic commoner like you will ever even make it."
"Well we will just have to wait till the results don't we." I replied not able to look him in the eye. "Now excuse me I have to get to class..." I tried to leave through a crack in their human wall, but he stopped me by out stretching his arm, and placing his hand on the wall behind.
"Ooh well look what we have here." He whistled in sarcastic impressment. "Did you just somewhat talk back to me?"
"Wh-what no!" I quivered, instantaneously regretting saying anything.
"Really cause I think you did." He growled, he reached toward me with his other hand but before he could grab me I quickly ducked under his arm and made a run for it. I automatically heard them start to chase after me, so I picked up the pace, running into the main building and to my classroom.
Once inside they all stopped short of the door. "We'll see you later commoner." They then all walked away.
"Yamaguchi." A voice came from behind.
"Eep!" I squeaked quickly wheeling around to see Tsuki standing there looking surprised by my jumpiness. I calmed when I realized it was him. "Oh... Hey Tsuki." I managed between slight pants.
"You okay?" He asked seeming to still be entirely confused and even slightly weirded out by my behavior.
"Yeah, sorry I just didn't expect someone to be here... so early." He trailed off. "Where's Mrs. Ashiri?"
"She's making copies." He relied casually. "Are you nervous?"
"For what?" I asked panicking in my head thinking maybe he saw straight through me and knew about my feelings.
"For the announcement of who made the team?" He looked at me strangely again seeming surprised that I had forgotten.
"Oh! Yeah right..." I scratched the back of my head nervously. "I guess... a little bit, yes."
"Well we both did well at tryouts so I'm sure we'll be fine." He pushed it off casually sitting in his seat.
"Oh good morning Yamaguchi." Mrs Ashiri greeted as she walked into the room a stack of fresh papers in her hands. "Glad to see your here early and ready to learn."
"Good morning." I replied with a simple smile. I then sat down and waited till the class slowly started to fill with the other students and begin.

It was just before lunch and I was peacefully making my way through the halls when I was very suddenly grabbed and yanked outside. Before I knew it I was dragged back into the school ally way, where I first met Tsuki, and thrown against the fence. The force caused me to drop my things, loose my balance, and fall to my knees.
Before I could try to stand I was yanked up and pinned against the fence by my main bully.
"Please let me go." I cried fear taking over my whole body as I tried to struggle away from him.
"No I don't like commoner blood tainting my campus." He sneered.
"I'm sorry." I apologized but didn't exactly know what for. I just wanted out of there. "Just please, I'll do anything, let me go." Yes I'm begging, yes I'm pathetic, yes I know that I probably deserve it if he decides to break me like a toothpick, but it doesn't stop me from being scared.
He suddenly shoved me harder pinning my head back with his forearm on my throat, cutting off a fair amount of my ability to breath, and making it impossible for me to speak, let alone create any form of a scream. I could feel the wire fence digging into my shoulder blades.
"Shut up, you're absolutely pathetic." He snarled tightening his grip so hard on my arm I could feel the pain of the circulation cutting off.
I let out a pathetic cough, trying to catch any sort of breath.
"If you were smart in anyway you would take the warning and leave this school. No one wants you hear. Not really. You think you can make friends, yeah right. They just feel bad for you, you aren't anything but a charity case in their eyes. So just do what we all want, stop being such a nuisance, and get out. I don't care if you don't have a choice if that's the case run away if you have to." He chuckled like a sudden idea popped into his head. "Or better yet, just kill yourself."
"Yamaguchi?!" A voice called from somewhere in the distance. It was Hinata's voice. "Yama, where are you?!"
"Dumbass shut up some people are still in class, just because your outside doesn't mean they can't hear you?!" Kageyama was with him too.
"I'll shut up when we find him!" Hinata snapped back, their voices growing closer.
"We'll finish this later." My bully warned before letting me go, and running out of the ally.
I fell to the ground, lightly grabbing my neck as I coughed and desperately sucked in air. I used my other hand to push myself up slowly.
"Yamaguchi?!" Hinata's worried voice echoed off the walls slightly as the short boy ran up to me and helped me the rest of the way off the ground, Kageyama by his side. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." I croaked, gently pushing his arms away. "I need some time alone."
"Yamaguchi!" Hinata called after me, but was ignored.
I quickly walked out of the ally running into the school, and going into the closest, unlocked, and empty room available, which just so happened to be a storage closet. I fell back against the wall, the mops and brooms clattering slightly, but I ignored them. I let my back slide down the surface till I was on the ground. Then I pulled his knees to my chest, buried my head, and started to cry...

I was slowly walking out of my last class, making my way to see the list of the members for the new volleyball team. I normally would be excited, but the cruel words I was subjected to earlier circled through my mind. I probably didn't make it anyway... I'm too pathetic.
"Yamaguchi." I heard a voice and turned to see Tsuki jogging up. "There you are, I've hardly seen you all day. Hinata told me you were acting weird earlier."
"Don't worry about it I'm fine." I shrugged it off and continued to walk.
He didn't at all seem to believe me, but followed. "Well I'm not sure, but I think that this might just cheer you up." He handed me a piece of paper. The top read:
First years that made this years High school volleyball team:
I widened my eyes, gripped the paper, and quickly read more.
Shouyou, Hinata
Tobio, Kageyama
Kei, Tsukishima
Tadashi, Yamaguchi
My eyes grew even bigger, if that was possible, and I subconsciously let a wide smile spread across my face. "I made it?!" My words came out as an excited laugh. "I can't believe it!"
"I told you you'd be fine, idiot." Tsuki let a small smile grace his lips.
I found myself staring. Tsuki's... smiling?! I blinked a few times taking in the rare sight. Is he smiling because he made the team too, or because... of me? The question made my heart flutter.
Suddenly his smile flattened and he gave me a weird look. "What?"
"N-nothing!" I said quickly snapping my head in the other direction to hide my blush. "Come on let's go meet the rest of the team."

We were now boarding the train back home after our first practice. The senpais were all very nice, and treated us like we'd always been part of the team. I was honestly glad that we didn't have anyone mean in our team.
Well besides Tsuki that is...
"So what had you so down in the dumps earlier anyway." He asked casually as we sat in one of the seats that, since it was a bit later in the afternoon, were actually available. He rested his elbow on the small sill of the train and watched out the window as the zooming lights came by occasionally illuminating the side of his face.
"Nothing it was something stupid." I replied leaning back into my seat. Man I'm kind of tired... it was a long day.
"It didn't seem like nothing. Your idiot friend Hinata seemed really worried about you." Tsuki removed his elbow from its propped position and looked at me.
"Those guys who like to mess with me just said some things, but like I said it was stupid." I yawned and then rubbed away the drop of water that formed in the corner of my eye because of it. "I really don't want to talk about this right now okay?"
"Hm..." he grunted quietly in response, but then remained silent.
The next thing I knew the bright interior of the train car blurred as I struggle to keep my eyelids from drooping shut. And before I knew it I drifted off...
-&-
"Yama."
What's that voice..? It's Tsuki's voice... I like that voice.
"Yamaguchi wake up. Wake up it's almost our stop!"
My eyes slowly opened halfway and I was met by the sight of the now nearly empty train car. My bag was leaned against my right side and I myself was leaning into something warm. The warmth was so comforting I almost didn't want to pull away, and wanted to just close my eyes again.
That is till I realized what I was leaning on was none other that Tsukishima Kei.
"Uh, s-sorry!" I spurted quickly sitting back up. I looked down to the opposite side letting my hair fall over my face, and hiding my reddened cheeks. "I didn't mean to fall asleep on you."
"Not like I care." He smirked. "Besides your pretty cute when asleep."
I felt my blush deepen. I can't believe I did that! I heard him chuckle and quickly looked up to glare at him.
He simply stood from his seat as the train came to a halt. "Come on, time to go."
I quickly got up realizing it was our stop, and ended up following him out, and to my house.
I hadn't realized he already memorized the rout...
Before I knew it we were back and since my mother, step father, and Flora were all home the door was unlocked so we walked in.
"Tadashi dear is that you and Kei?" My mother's voice sounded fro the dinning room, where I could already hear preparations for dinner being made.
"No mom we're burglars." I joked before quickly removing my shoes, hanging my bag and jacket up, and rushing into the dinning room. "Guess what? I made the volleyball team!"
"Oh sweetheart that's great!" My mother exclaimed bringing me into a quick hug.
Flora gave a small cheer and a round of applause in the background.
"Dad would be proud..." I smiled at my mom.
She let a small smile grace her lips before she kissed my forehead. "He sure would."
"Did you make it as well?" Flora asked the question directed toward Kei who I almost didn't notice followed me in.
"I did." He nodded with politeness.
"Well congratulations to both of you." My step father said. He then clapped his hands. "Now let's eat!"
Hey guys, I hope you liked this part. Sorry for kind of slow updates. I really do try I promise. Tell me what you thought. Vote and comment,
