Part 5: The Close Call (a little too close)
Hey guys I'm sorry for not updating in awhile. I have had a lot going on, and have been having motivational issues as per-usual. I hope y'all are still here. 😅 This is dedicated to _LMcLF_ cause of her support! ^-^

I let out a deep breath after tryouts were finally over, and hung my head as I sat on the edge of the bleachers. I wasn't perfect in all areas, but I tried my best, and honestly I could have done a lot worse... For some reason Tsuki's words kept repeating in my head.
"You'll be fine."
Such a simple phrase and yet it had given me so much motivation... Why?
"Hey." Someone gently placed a hand on my shoulder. "You did really good today."
"Uh... Th-thank you Suga-Senpai!" I replied shooting up to give him a small bow.
He just chuckled slightly and flashed me a warm smile before walking off with the rest of the second and third years.
I felt a small smile tug at my lips as well, and then picked up my things and went into the locker room to shower, since everyone was practically done already.

After I was finished cleaning up and changing I decided it was finally time to head home. I was walking out of the gymnasium when the sound of someone's voice nearly made me jump out of my skin.
"Finally you're done." Tsuki said from the wall he was leaning against. His expression was one of great annoyance
"Jeez." I let out a breath and grabbed my heart. My expression then flattened. "And if you're that annoyed why did you wait for me?"
"Your mom invited me over for dinner again. Apparently our parents think it's a good idea for us to spend a little time with each other. Just to make sure we don't hate each other's guts and end up ripping each other apart later in life I guess." He explained. "So I figured, why not just go home with you?"
"Oh..." I replied. "Well okay then let's go." I started walking out of school grounds and towards the subway, him following along my side.
"Why didn't you just have a driver take you home? You have one right?" He asked causally, but seemed a little bored.
"I didn't want one." I replied truthfully. "I'm not to keen on the big mansion and the full group of staff waiting on my every will. Besides I need a little bit of everyday middle class life to remind me where I came from, don't you agree?"
"Hm..." He looked at me quizzically, but then went back to normal looking ahead of us. "Sure I guess."
There was another short silence. By that time we had arrived at the subway and had to jog a bit to catch the next train just in time. The doors closed behind us and I walked into the middle grabbing hold of one of the handles hanging from the ceiling, seeing as no seats were available. They usually aren't at this time. Tsuki grabbed the one next to me and with a slight jolt the train departed from that stop and continued on its way.
"I haven't ridden one of these since I was a child." He stated looking around at the scenery that was far too familiar for me.
"Really?" I asked in slight disbelief. I've taken the subway to and from school everyday since I started junior high."
"Do you enjoy it?" He asked his face curling into one of disgust as an older lady brushed up on him to try to get to another spot.
I couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "I suppose I don't mind it. It's better than silently riding alone in some tinted out black car."
"You have some weird social morals." He grumbled.
"Only weird to you. Where I'm from I'm considered quite normal. Well... at least to strangers. The kids at school... that's a different story." I trailed off looking down to my feet.
Our conversation was interrupted by some guy in our car suddenly shouting at another. "Hey keep your dirty hands off my wife!"
"Oh come on it was an accident." The other than smirked. "Besides how was I supposed to know she was married."
"Why don't you try looking at her ring finger you asshole pervert!" The husband grew angry and shoved the man back into the small amount of people we were stood in.
Suddenly I felt and arm securely wrap itself around my waist as Tsuki grabbed me from behind, and pulled me back against the wall, quickly dodging the man who would have smacked right into me.
"Watch it!" He snapped at the both of them as some other men restrained the two from fighting anymore.
I felt my face heat up at the contact. His whole body was pressed against mine, his arm protectively around me.
The husband apologized while the other man was angrily escorted to a different car, and Tsuki's grip slowly let me go as we returned to our positions.
I almost felt slightly... disappointed as the warm feeling of his slight embrace was no longer there.
"Th-thanks." I stuttered not looking at him in the face.
"Whatever." He sighed as everything around us also went back to normal. He then looked at me his lips folding into a smirk. "After all I was just protecting my wife."
I felt my blush deepen, but shot him a glare anyway. "We aren't married yet. And besides I'm not you wife."
He chuckled smugly. "Just teasing you."

We had gotten off the train and arrived at my house. The door was locked so I began to dig out my key.
"Mom must still be working. She's been taking the later shifts lately, but should be back for dinner." I explained to him.
"So is your step dad home?" He asked pulling his bag onto his shoulder as he waited patiently.
"Nope." I replied simply, finding the key and pulling it out. "And the maid must be out shopping or she'd greet us."
"Hm." He hummed curiously as I got the door open and walked inside, him following behind.
I hung my coat and bag up and he did the same. I then walked into the living room sitting on the far end of the couch.
Instead of sitting on the other couch or one of the two chairs, like I expected, Tsuki ended up sitting next to me.
I shot him a sideways glance and then twiddled my fingers in my lap awkwardly. "Um... Thanks... for trying to make me feel better today. It honestly helped a lot."
"You're welcome." He replied simply, and actually sounded kind of bored.
I ignored his attitude and continued. "Actually I was quite surprised."
This caused him to look my way with slight confusion. "How so?"
"Well that you reached out in the first place." I replied truthfully. "After all you were the one who said you like to see me quiver and such."
"Yeah when you're flustered or embarrassed, not while you're having a mental breakdown." He admitted. "I'm not going to find pleaser out of someone suffering from something like anxiety. Who would?"
I was a little surprised. A sad smile grazed my lips as I answered his question. "You'd honestly be surprised how many people do."
He looked at me his eyes widening slightly, and I swear I even saw a slight shine of pity in them, if not only for a second. Then he cleared his throat and looked away. "Well I don't. Besides if I wanted to make you embarrassed I could do it myself, whenever I wanted."
"Yeah right." I crossed my arms and closed my eyes stubbornly scooting to the edge of the couch. "Don't act like you have some high and mighty power over me." My eyes suddenly flicked back open when I felt him lean his body against me.
"Call me a liar if you want." His voice was low and quiet. "But we are here because our parents want us to end up likening each other to assure things work out better for both of us in the end, so..." He shifted grabbing my arm and pulling me to face him. He used his other hand to gently take hold of my cheek, and moved his face closer to mine. "Let's give them what they want, huh?" He once again started to lean in closer.
I was frozen. My lips parted slightly as I stared back at him with wide eyes. Is he... going to kiss me?! I didn't know what to do. Here was a boy that, despite being betrothed to, I hardly knew. And he was going to just up and kiss me. Before anything proper has even been done, and nothing was yet fully set in stone. Heck, I only met him not even two days ago! I could push him away, deny him, I know I could, but I didn't. I couldn't move, my mind went blank, and I was left completely utterly one hundred percent frozen. Even as he got close enough to feel his warm breath on my lips I didn't even flinch. I felt the blood rush to my cheeks.
Then just as our lips were about to meet he stopped. We weren't even a centimeter apart from making contact, not even a half a centimeter apart.
He suddenly laughed quietly his eyes closing, quite cutely might I add, for a few seconds as an amused smile spread across his lips. He then pulled away only slightly, not removing either of his hands and smirked at me looking directly into my eyes. "You're blushing."
I suddenly remembered his words. "Besides if I wanted to make you embarrassed I could do it myself, whenever I wanted."
I blinked a few times in surprise then felt my blush deepen for probably the thirtieth time that day. "Eh..? What?!" I shouted pulling away from him and standing abruptly. "I-is this some sort of game to you?!"
He shrugged the smug smile still residing on his face. "Not exactly the wording I would choose, but yes."
I was about to retaliate, but the front door opened and the maid, Flora, walked in with a couple brown grocery bags.
"Oh, Master Yamaguchi I didn't realize you were home yet." She bowed as much as she could without loosing any of the contents of the two bags. "And you have a guest. I'll just be carrying in the groceries don't mind me."
"Flora." I suddenly set my anger aside and smiled kindly walking over to her. "I told you to call me Yama or Tadashi, it's wired having someone who's older be so formal." I then took the two bags from her. "And don't worry at all about us I'll help you."
"Oh no you really don't have to-" she tried to debate, but I interrupted.
"Nonsense, I really don't mind at all." I assured her.
She smiled sweetly. "Thank you." She then bowed and walked outside to grab more bags.
I headed my way to the kitchen, placing the bags on the island, before turning around and nearly running into someone.
"Why are you so nice all the time?" Tsuki asked me with a cold expression. "You don't have to help, it is her job after all."
"I'm nice because, believe it or not, being kind to everyone you meet actually pays off in the future sometimes." I said placing my hands on my hips. "And I know it's her job, but like I said I'm not too keen on having a staff of people waiting on me hand and foot."
"Hmp." He chuckled but not necisarnaly in amusement. "You really are a strange one..." With that I watched as he walked outside and started to help.
Hey guys I hope you liked that part! I'm so sorry for teasing you so bad with that kiss XD just imagine how Yama feels. Anyway I want to thank you all again for the support and staying with me even though I don't update too often. Vote and comment, bye!
