Chapter 25

The next day passed with far less drama than the one before.

Now that everyone close to me knew about Nathan and I, life seemed easier and brighter and I was practically prancing around the apartment in glee, humming along to every song that came on the radio Friday morning getting ready for Nathans class.

Today marked the beginning of Nathans last week as my official professor. Mrs. Smith had extended her maternity leave by another week due to some unforeseen complications. She was fine now, which I was grateful for but a large part of me would miss having Nathan front and center of the classroom three days a week, just listening to him talk and get to witness his passion for photography really shine through his seminars. He would obviously still be in the classroom but just as Mrs. Smiths assistant until the end of the semester; which was thankfully only a few months away.

I danced around my room to the beat of a random Rihanna song as I yanked on an emerald colored tank top that flowed around my waist,  then grabbed a pair of white shorts out of my drawer to complete the outfit.

My hand hesitated over the drawer that contained all of my shorts and work out clothes. That familiar foreboding feeling washed over me from a couple days ago when I was on my run. I had been almost positive that someone was watching me. Yet, as I strained my eyes to look through the trees and tried to spot any single person or thing out of place, I simply couldn't.

I shrugged that confining fear away for the time being since I didn't see anything and had probably just been paranoid. But, the thought of skipping my run for today was all too appealing as I shut my drawer with a resolute bang. This would be one run that I would just have to skip.

I arrived in the school parking lot just in time to get to class. I looked out of my window and spotted Ben and his crazed, brunette locks of hair waiting for me in our designated spot in front of the large Arts building.

An anticipating smile made its way onto my lips as the thought of seeing Nathan within a few minutes sprung to my mind. I made my way out of my car, slamming the door behind me as I walked towards to Ben. His eyes found mine and a sly smirk formed on his pink lips.

Now what?

I ran a hand through my way chestnut colored hair and gave him my own puzzled look as I found my way in front of his tall frame.

"What's with the look?" I asked.

His eyebrows popped up in mock surprise. "What ever could you mean, baby?"

Oh, jeez. Someone please shoot me now.

"Whatever you have in mind, don't do it. You already caused enough issues last time you pulled this whole overly attached boyfriend stunt. Look, I know I'm amazing and everything but seriously, you've gotta take it down a notch," I said with my own playful smirk.

Ben let out a very fake, very un-amused laugh as he slung his arm around my shoulder and we started walking to class.

"I can't even begin to understand how McCoy handles you. You're too damn sarcastic for your own good," Ben grumbled under his breath, a teasing air surrounding his words and tone.

A cheeky smile spread across my lips. "Oh, come on. You know you love me! You'd love me even more if my name was Mia though," I said bravely, catching Ben completely off guard.

His steps halted immediately and his face was one of pure shock. I spun around on my heel to face him and could tell he was having an internal battle within himself on whether to deny it or not.

Guess which side won.

"I have no idea what you're talking about," he said almost convincingly, if it weren't for the small twitch of his lips that occurred whenever he was lying.

I nodded my head smugly. "Sure."

There was no denying that Ben knew I knew something as I strolled away backwards from him towards the classroom and left him in the dust, eyes wide, mouth still hanging open.

He was helplessly miserable at hiding things.

I chuckled to myself as his face replayed in my mind and I turned to face forward and walk in the correct direction and with the flow of the crowded hallway. As I turned though, a small yelp escaped my throat as I ran smack dab into a tall and muscular frame. His arms slid fluidly around my waist to steady me before I could fall from the small impact. The smell of cologne and coffee wafted through my nose and I peered up into the eyes of my savior.

"You have got to be one of the clumsiest women I have ever met, Ms. Merrick."

His deep blue eyes sparkled with mirth as he stared down at me. I welcomed the warmth and joy that came with being in his presence with open arms as I responded.

"Well, I'm only this clumsy so you have an excuse to touch me."

His eyebrow quirked up as his grip tightened on my waist. "Do you really think I need an excuse to touch you?"

Memories of our time in his classroom only a couple days ago danced through my mind and I could tell he was reliving the same memory by the fire that accumulated in his increasingly lustful stare.

Suddenly, that fire was drenched as his eyes shifted in horror and the warmth of his large hands left my waist as if they had been scorched and he moved several feet away. Coldness swept over the spots where his large hands had just been and I was left confused and slightly flustered.

Then it registered.

Nathan had just had his hands on a student for an undoubtedly inappropriate period of time. Students were all around us. Anyone could have seen.

The magnitude of the situation and how stupid we had been quickly weighed down on me. I nodded and muttered a quick 'thank you' to Nathan for catching me before practically running away and ducking into his classroom.

Throughout the entire lecture I was awaiting someone to call me or Nathan out for what had happened in the hall.

No one did.

Nathan was smart enough to keep all eye contact between us to a bare minimum, only meeting each others glances for brief moments and necessary times through his lecture. But I could tell he was waiting for it too. Waiting for someone to raise there hand and instead of answering his question for the correct lens to use when shooting in natural lighting, to ask why he had been a step away from groping me outside of the classroom.

When he dismissed the class, the turmoil churning in my stomach finally ceased. If anyone was going to say something to him or I, it would have happened by now. Or at least that's what I'd tell myself so I could sleep soundly tonight.

Ben and I gathered our materials and trotted down the steps of the classroom to the doorway. Normally, I would consider staying behind but with what had happened earlier in the hallway, I didn't think it was worth the risk to sneak in a few kisses.

Apparently, Nathan didn't share the same sentiment.

"Ms. Merrick, would you stay behind for a few moments?" Nathans voice called out professionally. I sputtered in my spot for a brief second before spinning on my heel to face him.

"Sure," I voiced in a tone that hopefully came across as a bewildered student, unsure of why they were being asked to stay behind. Maybe those acting classes in high school would finally pay off.

I nodded to Ben to go ahead without me and he accepted without much protest.

Taking a couple steps in Nathans direction, I didn't get too far before having my shoulder rammed into and my body thrown back a couple steps from the force of the shoulder jab.

Looking up, I saw Abby; the random blonde bitch who called me out on Nathans first day here and had been flirting with him whenever she gets the chance.

"Whoops," she said, feigning innocence at her blatant shove.

Now, unlike most girls, who would decidedly let it slide, cry, or pretend it didn't happen, I opted for a different approach.

I have a flair for the dramatic, what can I say?

"I know due to your hair color your assumed to be an idiot but it's basic human instinct to know how to walk. Try to do better for your stereotype, sweetie." I plastered an equally innocent smile on my face and watched pridefully as her face distorted to one of rage.

"At least I'm not tagging random guys along letting them fuck me whenever they ask nicely."

I reared my head back in confusion. "You need to find a new informant, honey. They were probably referring to you and your lifestyle but you're just too damn ignorant to realize it."

She stepped closer, hatred that came from seemingly nowhere entrapped in her stare. Her and I had had our tiffs in the past over stupid things but nothing of this magnitude.

"Watch your mouth, slut!" she sneered at me.

"Ladies!" A voice called in the distance but I was far to engrossed within the fight to process it.

"Look whose calling the kettle black."

"What the hell does that even mean?"

Seriously?

"Maybe if you picked up a book once in a while you would understand a idiom when you hear one!" I spat back at her, taking a purposeful step towards her. The anger I was feeling at this moment was so sudden and so unexpected that I had no control over my actions or the insults flying out of my mouth.

"Shut the fuck up!" she screamed, raising her hands in the process and taking things to a whole new level when she placed her hands forcefully on my chest and pushed as hard as she could.

My body didn't fly nearly as far as I had assumed it would since it came in contact with an all too familiar firm chest. One of his arms came across and grabbed at my waist for the second time today, steadying my feet on the flat ground so I didn't fall.

Abby's eyes popped up to Nathan's, who was stationed behind me with no intention on moving. Fear crept onto her face as she tried to salvage any piece of innocence that was left of her in Nathan's eyes.

"Mr. McCoy! I'm so sorry you had to witness that. We were just having a heated discussion. Just a convo between girls," she said, flicking her blonde waves over her shoulder. A nervous giggle sputtered from her lips.

"That's not what I saw at all. I saw you put your hands on another student in a harmful manner. Something deemed worthy of expulsion at this University." His voice was unwavering and ruthless. His arm around my waist finally disappeared but his body remained behind mine.

Abby's eyes widened considerably, her mouth falling fully agape. A part of me started to feel a bit bad for her. Sure, she was a bitch and had been ever since they first day I met her but I didn't want her to get expelled for something I took part in as well.

"That's really not necessary, Mr. McCoy. No harm done." I turned my body to face his and gave him my most convincing smile. His eyes were trained on mine and I could see the fury swirling inside of them by seeing me be pushed. I couldn't imagine how he would have reacted if he had known me when Greg got hold of me...

"Fine," he said after an agonizingly long minute of deciding. "You can thank Ms. Merrick for not filing a complaint. Now, I suggest you leave before she changes her mind."

Abby nodded her head vigorously, thanking Nathan before leaving without sparing me another glance.

"Remind me to never get on your bad side," I said timidly as we were left on our own for the first time that day.

"She's been annoying me from the beginning. She's always coming by my office trying to flirt, asking pointless questions. She's had it coming for a while now."

And even though I hated to admit it, I felt a spike of jealousy run through me, knowing that Abby had been flirting with him outside of the classroom.

"She looked like she might have peed her pants though," I said, chuckling slightly with the memory. He simply shrugged.

"She deserved it."

"You do know that I was the one who started with the insults, right?"

He nodded his head, running a hand over his trimmed facial fair. "Yeah, I know. But I saw her jab you first and your comebacks were far too intelligible and hilarious to get angry at." A lazy smile formed on his lips now, leaning his body back onto his desk casually.

"You're incredibly immature sometimes, you know that, right?" I asked with a quirked eyebrow, laughter threatening to break through my badass facade.

"Only around you," he mused cheekily, the most adorable look on his face.

I pretended to throw up in my mouth at his cheesiness in which he responded by trapping me in his arms, wrestling with me until I subsided, laughter wracking my body. His lips came down onto mine in a swift but affectionate kiss.

He pulled away, his eyes gleaming with playful happiness.

"You know you just kissed a freshly thrown up in mouth, right?" I asked teasingly. He rolled his eyes and released my body from his grasp, letting me move to a more appropriate distance.

"You're a dork," he said matter of factually, a lopsided smile still playing on his lips.

"Did you know that a dork is just a non-fancy name for a whale penis? So you basically just called me a dick. In which I take major offence to, sir." My sarcastic side was beginning to make its way out in the conversation and by the adoring look that passed through Nathans eyes, I think he liked it.

"Do you want to come over to my place?" Nathan abruptly asked. My eyebrows shot up in surprise at his abrupt change of subject.

"Um, sure. When?" I inquired, suddenly feeling giddy and nervous all at the same time.

"Right now," he answered casually, confidently.

I couldn't help but openly blanch at him. "What?"

"Yeah. I mean, I don't have anymore classes today. You don't have anymore classes today. It's Friday so, why not?"

His eyes bored into mine as I made my decision. What did coming over exactly mean for our relationship? Did it mean that we were official? Did it mean he thought I was ready to sleep with him. Was I? It had been over a year since the last guy I slept with and that was just an all around atrocious experience. Now there's two minutes of my life I'll never get back.

"Alex," Nathan's voice cut through my internal thoughts. "I don't want you to over think this. I just want to spend more time with you where we don't have to hide and worry about people seeing us. I want to cook a homemade meal for my girlfriend in my own home and watch as you prance around my place in those short shorts of yours that you know I love."

Holy shit. Did everyone hear that? He said Girlfriend. I was his girlfriend. He was my boyfriend. And I was damn happy about that fact.

An obnoxiously stupid smile spread onto my lips at his statement.

"Looks like you're gonna have to go without the shorts for today since I don't have any on me."

His eyes lit up as he took a step forward, brushing our bodies up against each other, once again crossing the threshold of student and teacher on school grounds.

"So is that a yes?" he asked, his tone hopeful and enticingly deep.

My subtle laughter filled the small space in between us. I nodded my head. "I'm quite looking forward to you cooking for me, professor," I said in a seductive tone, my head swimming with ideas of what could possibly happen at his place today.

His smile widened as he swiftly grabbed his briefcase and keys and headed towards the door, leaving me scrambling to catch up to him. He swung his door open with vigor and proceeded down the emptied hallway, calling behind him. "Lets go!"

I loved seeing this childlike side of him. His excitement for me coming over had my excitement doubling in size. And as I followed in my car behind him to his place, the nerves smashing around in my stomach only seemed to triple as well.

After a 10 or so minutes drive, Nathans silver car turned abruptly into a paved driveway in a relatively crowded neighborhood; houses back to back with not but a couple feet separating each lot. But the houses themselves were pretty nice. Nathans car pulled in front of a tan, one story house with white trim around the framing and door, which was coated with a deep maroon coloring. The outside of the house was lined with shrubbery and small plants that seemed relatively healthy. There was a small walkway that led to the front door that was surrounded by a bed of multi colored rocks.

Overall, I was more than impressed with how nice his house was.

I parked my car behind his and stepped out into the hot sun and up to Nathan, who was standing outside of his car waiting for me with a smug smile planted on his overtly kissable lips.

"So are you ready to be wowed?" he inquired with a quirk of his eyebrow as he fished his keys out of his pants pocket. We strolled up his rock lined walkway and approached his front door.

"If there aren't gold staircases and a butler waiting to hand me a mimosa the second I walk in there, then I'm turning right back around," I joked which awarded me a playful eye roll from Nathan.

"I was talking about my cooking, Your Highness."

A hearty chuckle erupted from my lips at his new nickname for me.

"Well then, yes! I am ready to be wowed! But the whole butler thing still stands," I said in mock seriousness. He shook his head with smile stretched across his face as he put his key in the lock.

"You're insatiable, Ms. Merrick." And with that, he turned the key and knob with it, swinging open the front door and giving me a wide view of the inside of his house.

"Why thank you, good sir," I said and curtsied before him teasingly, which earned me a swift smack on the ass from him as I passed him on my way inside.

I squealed and ran the rest of the way inside to avoid any further assault from him.

"Is that how you treat all of your guests?" I asked with raised and amused eyebrows.

"Only the special ones," he said with a sly wink.

"Nathan?" A voice that didn't belong to either of us called out unexpectedly.

A lightening bolt of fear and sudden rage sliced through my body and down my spine at the sound of that voice and the jovial smile that was homed on my face, slid off and was replaced with a deep frown. Nathans face distorted to one of confusion as he took off through the front of his house and stopped in front of what I assumed to be his living room, me towing along behind him.

His feet stopped suddenly and his entire body visibly tensed as he laid his eyes on the person who was perched on his couch.

"Silvia?"
