Maya's POV

I didn't know what to do, I felt hopeless as I watched the blonde teen freak out. She kept saying she can't go to the emergency room but I didn't dare ask why, was it because she'd get into trouble for sneaking out? I couldn't be too sure. Carina suggested we take Lucia into my office so she didn't have prying eyes as she broke down. She reluctantly let me carry her into my office not letting go of her stuffed animal.

"Lucia, if you don't have your foot examined in a hospital and it's broken it won't heal correctly. You don't want that do you?" I asked the crying teen as I gently sat her on a chair she slowly shook her head but I could tell she was scared as she looked up at me.

"Who do you want us to call?" I asked softly as I crouched down in front of her. I could tell she was trying to weigh up her options.

"My social worker Mari" she said barely above a whisper. She then pulled out a small piece of paper which had her social workers phone number on and handed it to me.

"I should say sorry before you do call. I lied. My name isn't Lucia, well it is but not my first name, Lucia is my middle name. My first name is Liliana. I'm sorry I lied. Please don't be angry. I'm sorry" the blonde teen apologised as she tried to make herself small, Liliana Lucia, her name was just as pretty as she was.

"Hey, you don't need to apologise. It's nice to meet the real you Liliana" I smiled to the teen who seemed to force a smile.

"Your not angry?" She asked fiddling with the bunny in her hands. I told her that I wasn't angry but she still seemed unsure.

"Umm. Is... is there any chance I could have some water please, before you phone Mari" Liliana then asked, I saw Jack outside and quickly opened the door.

"Gibson, could you get a glass of water for our little visitor, please" I asked glancing back to a nervous looking Liliana. Jack agreed and I stepped outside to phone Mari, Liliana's social worker.

"Good morning, Mari Walker talking how can I help you" the voice of Liliana's social worker came through the phone.

"Good morning, it's Captain Bishop from Station 19. I'm phoning on behalf of Liliana, i haven't gotten her surname but her middle name is Lucia. She came into the clinic and we advice she goes straight to the emergency room. Is it possible for you to come and pick her up" I said to the woman on the other end of the phone.

"I would but I'm in meetings all afternoon, she knows I have more than just her to worry about. Phone the group home. Mike or Jan should be available" Mari said her voice full of attitude

"Can you give me the number. Liliana is distressed and I don't wish to out any more pressure on her" I said glancing into the office to see Liliana still holding her teddy close, Jack came back with some water for the teen. I nodded to Jack as a thank you before continuing the conversation with Mari.

Liliana's POV

Maya left the room to call Mari after she asked this man 'Gibson' which obviously wasn't his first name, or it could be but then it wouldn't be in his uniform, right? I was holding my teddy close to me as I was scared, I knew Mari would be angry but so would Jan and Mike, Mike would be worse though.

"Here you go kiddo" the man said coming back with a glass of water.

"Thank you" I answered barely audible, I couldn't sit still and then Maya returned.

"Your social worker is in meetings all afternoon so she told me to ring one of the care workers at the group home" Maya informed me, I must have looked like I had seen a ghost and I could feel myself panicking as I sat holding the glass in one hand and teddy in the other, it was safe to say I was scared, Mike would most likely answer the phone and he'd be the one to come and pick me up since Jan hasn't got her drivers license yet. I couldn't think straight as the fear took over and all of a sudden there was this 'Smash' and the fear washed over me quicker as I realised I had dropped the glass.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it. I'll clean it up. I'm sorry" I repeated as I got up only to be gently stopped and sat back down by Maya.

"You are staying put. That was an accident, I know you didn't mean to, I'm going to need you to breath for me. Okay Lili' breath for me slowly" Maya said giving me a nickname, it was nice; I never had a nickname before, well other than the horrible names my parents and brother called me but I wouldn't class them as nicknames.

"I'm sorry" I repeated over and over as Maya gently went through a breathing exercises with me in hopes to keep me calm, Jack cleaned up the broken glass and said he would sit with me while Maya phoned the group home. Once he gets back Maya leaves a now calm me with Jack

"How long have you been in the system?" Jack asked, I didn't mind getting asked how long I'd been in care, the thing I don't talk about is why I'm here and why I'm moved a lot.

"Just before I turned 8, so 5 and a bit years" I answered honestly, my voice still quite like it always in when I'm with new people, you could say I'm a shy kid.

"Sucks doesn't it?" Jack replied causing me to frown, how would he know

"I grew up in the system too" he then added practically reading my mind.

"Do you get to visit your family or was it an accident that caused you to end up in the system?" Jack asked pausing.

"You don't have to answer if you don't feel comfortable" he then added. I felt like I could trust him, he wouldn't judge me, I hope. He was safe, like Maya. I don't know what it was about them but they felt like safe people.

"No to both questions but I don't really like talking about the reason behind me being placed in care. I never have. Not that I get the chance to" I said whispering the last sentence, maybe if I had the chance to go to therapy and get comfortable with talking to someone I could maybe off-load the anxieties and constant fear I feel but I'm never anywhere long enough. I just want a forever family. Jack seemed to understand and it felt nice to talk to someone

"If you ever want to talk to someone, you can always come by and we can have a chat" Jack offered and I smiled with a small thank you. We talked a little longer as Maya was still on the phone, she looked like she was angry, had I don't something or was it Mike, I bet it was him. Jack asked me my favourite colour which was easy, purple, I loved all shades of purple but my favourite shade was a light shade.

"You'll be here for a little longer, Mike, I believe he said his name was is waiting for someone to get back so he can drive here and take you to the emergency room" I nodded with a sigh.

"I'm sorry, maybe I shouldn't have came here, causing all this trouble for you." I said looking down and playing with my hands, Jan was most likely picking up the the kids who go to day care until mid-day, she walks with them since their just little and they often go to the park on the way home.

"Do you want to join us for some lunch, or we could take you upstairs and you can watch the tv. Your choice" Maya asked looking to Jack who nodded.

"I've got my snack, but thank you for offering" I responded with a shrug. I had a fruit roll up and a cereal bar because I should have been back by lunchtime but then again I wouldn't have gone back, I often skip lunch. I showed Maya what I had for snack but she didn't look best pleased.

"That will not do, what do you like to eat?" Maya asked going all mother bear on me, it was nice but weird, nobody ever cared so much, but why did she care about me, I wasn't anything special.

"I promise I'm fine." I said trying to reassure the two adults who were now both giving me a look as if to say I need to eat. I guess I was going to be having lunch with a bunch of firefighters.

"Liliana you need to have a proper lunch, you're a growing girl" Jack said.

"Okay" I said not wanting to anger the two firefighters when they've both been so nice to me.

"You can bring your bag or leave it in here" Maya offered and I nodded, I could leave the bag but not my teddy, she was coming with me.

Third Person

Liliana joined Maya and Jack upstairs, taking the elevator and almost having a full blown panic attack with it being a confide space. She got the sense that everyone was like family in this fire station and felt bad for intruding on them, why would they want a teenager with them during their lunch. Maya introduced Liliana to everyone and they seemed to love her. As they were talking to her she took Carina to the side.

"We have fostering license, right?" Maya started the conversation, she wasn't sure how else to start it.

"Si we do, is this about Liliana?" Carina asked

"Can we see if we can foster her?" Maya asked with Carina smiling, she glanced at the Blonde teen sat beside Jack, the teen was smiling but Carina could tell it wasn't a real smile, not really.

"Let's see if we can foster the Bambina" carina agreed with Maya, they then both went to join everyone eating,

Liliana's POV

I lost track of time, Jack and Carina stayed with me when everyone had to go on a call. I loved Carina's accent but I wasn't as confident around her as I was Maya and Jack. I was sat on a swivelling chair watching Carina work through the window into what I heard Jack call the Barn, not sure why but hey I'm not one to question. Out of nowhere Jack spun me around making me laugh, a real laugh for once.

"What was that for" I asked giggling

"Thought you looked like you needed a spin, you looked bored" Jack joked with me making me giggle. 8 heard the trucks coming back but was still giggling as Jack continued spinning me, checking with me every so often to make sure I wasn't too dizzy.

"I need to use the bathroom but I think I'll fall if I stood up right now" I laughed through the fact I had to pee and if I laughed any longer.

"Come on, let's help you to the toilets" Jack said stoping the chair and helping me up, he supported my weight as we carefully made our way to the bathroom. I did what I needed too and then was greeted by Maya as Jack helped me back to my seat. Maya asked if I was okay and I was, I explained what I had done while the team were out and that Jack spun me like crazy as I laughed but then the laughter and happiness stoped when Mike walked in, the anger on his face was adamant.

"Liliana Lucia Bell, in the car now!" Mike practically shouted causing my heart to beat a million times a second. Jack helped me out to the car, I didn't say anything but I heard Mike say that it's my fault if I'm moved again, but then I heard Mayas voice 'we would like to foster Liliana' maybe I was imagining it but if she really said that would I really be okay with her fostering me with Carina, I mean I don't care that they are both women but would I finally manage to have a forever family with them?
