Pirate Jackson
Previously:
We were riding with our friends from Camelot a few days after the tournament only as far as the inn on the outskirts of town. We'd seen a cyclopes our last day at the tournament and knew we had to leave soon. I wasn't entirely sure he wasn't following us out.
Frank led the way through the door to the tavern holding Estelle's hand desperately. I was holding her other hand and Zoë's in my other.
"Frank, you have been elected to take over all dimension hopping from now on." I said, panting heavily. "We finally seem to have just walked into the next one instead of falling."
"I second this notion." Zoë said.
We all paused to take a break. The Cyclopes that had been following us from the tournament was about to catch up with us just before we left the last dimension. We also needed to get a stock of our surroundings.
It appeared we were in a town that had started the apocalypse. I heard multiple cases of broken glass in many different directions. There was one house that seemed to be on fire. At least four people had already run into us completely intoxicated. Fortunately none had bumped into Zoë yet. Or Estelle. Zoë had taken my sister and pulled her close to the wall of the building we'd just 'left'. Out of the way.
"Where are we?" Frank asked, looking around in barely hidden disgust.
Yet another group of guys bumped into Frank and I—one of them hearing Frank's question.
"You don't know where you are either?" He said, in a drunken awe. "Me too!"
"No, Alex, I just told ye'. We're in Tortuga, remember?" One of his friends said, also drunkenly.
"Really?" The first guy said. He turned to Frank. "Psst! I know where we are! We're in Tortoise Tuba!"
"Tortuga!" His friends corrected in perfect drunken harmony. They all laughed and stumbled off.
"Should we help them?" Frank asked, watching them leave.
I eyed the group with disgusted awe as they all at once fell into a pigsty. "Nope."
Frank nodded. "Yeah, you're right, let's go."
"Where?" I asked.
"Anywhere but here, this place is no place for Estelle." Zoë said firmly.
"Let's try the docks." I said. "Maybe there is someone leaving we can hitch a ride with."
I'll admit, my motives for going to the dock was only partly because of that reason. The name Tortuga sounded familiar. But I could be wrong and if I am, I don't want to say anything just yet.
Frank eyed me with suspicion, but Zoë was already picking Estelle up and following her nose to the shore. I did my best to keep a poker face as I followed after her.
It had to have been early morning because along the way, we saw many intoxicated people stumbling in the same fashion as the group we met earlier. They were dressed in very old fashioned clothing you'd find in the classic pirate era. Nothing was clean, and the air was cold and damp.
I ended up creating each of us a set of clothes that were similar to what I'd seen going around. It was warmer, and the tall boots did better keeping our feet dry than the sandals we were just in.
We fell in step with one very muddy and intoxicated man following a much smaller figure down the dock. It seemed they were heading for a busy port at the end. No other ship port was quite so busy.
"They look to be leaving." Zoë said, pointing at the very same ship I'd noticed. "Let us see if we cannot join them."
"We don't even know where they are going." Frank argued. "Shouldn't we see where they're going first?"
"Do you have some place to be?" Zoë asked. When Frank didn't answer, she continued. "We just arrived. The only thing we need to keep an eye out for is a cure for Percy's dreams. Do you know of such a thing in this realm?"
"No." Frank said quietly.
"Then let us have an adventure." Zoë finished as we came up on the two we were following. They had stopped to talk with a very familiar looking person. Though it had been so long since I'd seen any of the movies, there were some things you just don't forget.
Frank said it for me. "Jack Sparrow." His mouth was open in shock.
"Captain." I whispered.
Zoë looked at the tow of us. "You know this man?" Before I could do more than nod, she said, "Excellent, we can climb aboard with him."
"Uh—"
"Captain Sparrow." She said, either not hearing or ignoring Frank's protests. "I would appreciate if you would welcome us aboard."
Unfortunately, she spoke up just as the very muddy man vomitted over the side of the deck. "Oh, please." He said, looking up at said Captain. "The captain of the Flying Dutchman?"
Captain Jack Sparrow looked at him and reeled back. "You look awful. What are you doing here?"
"You hired me." The man said scornfully. "I can't help it if your standards are lax."
"You smell funny." He returned. Turning to us, he said, "I've got a full crew."
"No you don't." I said, snorting.
"No I don't." The Captain of the Black Pearl conceded. "But why should I let you aboard? Two of you are girls too young for the voyage upon which we are about to embark, and none of you look like you know your way around a ship."
"Look, we just want to leave Tortuga." I said. "You only need to pay us in adventure."
"Speak for yourself!" Frank protested.
"Fine, you pay him one gold coin."
"One?"
"What are you going to do with a whole chest?" I demanded.
"Done!" The pirate said. "Welcome aboard!"
"Jack!" The smaller figure interrupted while Estelle was celebrating. "All I want is to find Will."
"Well," Jack said, stepping close to them. "Are you certain? Is that what you really want most?"
"Of course." Who I can only assume is Elizabeth Swan said.
"Because I would think you'd want to find a way to save Will most." Jack said as he walked her a couple steps down the dock.
"And you'd have a way of doing that?" She said, disbelievingly.
"Well...there is a chest."
"Oh, dear." The man whose name I forgot said.
"A chest of unknown size and origin—"
"What contains the still-beating heart of Davy Jones." Interrupted one of two pirates carrying a large crate of rum. The other one pretended to hold said beating heart in his hand and held it out to Elizabeth.
"And whoever possesses that chest, possesses the leverage to command Jones to do whatever it is he or she wants, including saving brave William from his grim fate."
The man whose name escapes me walked over to them. "You don't actually believe him, do you?"
"Oh, he is telling the truth." I spoke up. "And Davy Jones is also in command of a beast called a kraken. Tears boats apart with his tentacles, and steals the faces of men." Jack looks at me nervously and I smirk. "I know." I said. "It may have been a while since I've...heard this legend of Captain Jack Sparrow and the Dead Man's Chest but I now there are deals upon deals and double crossing upon double crossing. But what good pirate story doesn't have those?"
Jack paused. "I like you." He decided, then turned to Elizabeth.
"How would we find it?" She asked.
"We'll be aboard." I said, pulling Estelle along. "Put us where you need us, Mr. Gibbs!"

I did not hide my...skill with a ship. Any job we didn't have hands for, I waved my hand and the ship did as ordered. They were suspicious at first, but I explained I'd had a run in with a sea witch who granted me powers. Then they wanted to know what I did to gain her favor.
"I really can't say." I said as we waited on the Black Pearl while Jack, Elizabeth, the man I now know as Norrington, and the two funny pirates rowed to the island. "I'd sworn not to. Else wise she'll take 'em back."
Just a day or so at sea with these guys and I'm starting to talk like them.
"D'you knows wheres we can find 'er?" Mr. Gibbs asked. "With powers like them, you could command an entire ship herself..." Mr. Gibbs trailed off at the sight of my smile.
"She's long gone by now." I said. "Not sure I'd be able to find 'er again."
"Percy, you're talking funny." Estelle said from her perch on my shoulders.
I grinned up at her. "Like a pirate?"
She giggled.
"What in Zeus' name are they doing?" I heard Zoë say from the railing.
That prompted anyone who heard to come look at what they were doing on shore. It appeared there were two fighting groups. One by the boat, the other farther on shore. They were rabidly closing in on each to her and I had no way to tell who was part of what group.
Just as I had that thought, Mr. Gibbs came up beside me with an eyeglass.
"Jack is fighting some hideous beast by the boat," he said. "Elizabeth, Ragetti, and Pintel are fighting the horde on shore." He brought down the telescope. "I don't see Norrington."
"Is that a water wheel?" Someone else piped up.
Indeed it was. It rolled onto the beach and into the water. Eventually loosing momentum, it fell over. Two figures clamored out.
"There's Norrington." Mr. Gibbs said. "And by Joe! That be Will Turner!"
Frank and I laughed to each other quietly. Seeing it from this perspective, it was much more funny. I realized there was no explanation for the wheel unless one of them explained it to the rest of us. Somehow, seeing it out of context made it more funny than it actually was.
Then we saw them cornered by the boat. For a moment, it seemed they wouldn't get out until the figure I thought was Norrington grabbed something from the boat and ran into the jungle. When they got back to the Pearl, they had to haul an unconscious Will Turner aboard with a rope.
We were making ready to start heading off again when the water exploded beside us. There, I saw for the first time; the Flying Dutchman. It was horrifyingly beautiful. And the crew members even more horrendous.
"Oi! Fishface!" All eyes turned to Jack. "Lose something? Eh? Oh—" he fell down the stairs to the main deck. He lifted his jar of dirt and just dirt. "Come to negotiate, eh, have you, you slimy git? Look what I got. I gotta jar of dirt. I gotta jar of dirt. And guess what's inside it."
There was no answer but for the cannon doors lowering.
"Hard to starboard!" Elizabeth shouted.
"Brace the foreyard!" Will cried.
I helped the ship along with a bit of guidance for the currents. Soon, the Dutchman was falling behind.
"She's giving up!" Someone called and cheers went up. But our victory was short lived. The Pearl gave a great lurch. The jar of dirt and only dirt fell, shattering.
"We must have hit a reef!"
I smiled and cracked my knuckles. "That's no reef." I said.
"Wrong movie, Perce." Frank muttered out of the corner of his mouth.
"Right, I'll be in the water. Stick with Mr. Gibbs, Zoë."
"Good luck, Percy." Frank said.
I jumped in and sighed. It had been too long since I'd gotten in the ocean. And this situation reminded me of doing the same thing on Argo II.
I swam around to the kraken's head and found his giant eyes. "Hi! My name is Percy. What's yours?"
"Kevin. Now go away before I am forced to kill you."
"Don't worry, Kevin, you won't get me that easily." I said casually. "Do you know of a way to free you?"
"I do not. Unless you have power over the magic in the ocean, I fear I am trapped forever."
"Well, today is your lucky day. I am the son of Poseidon himself." I told him. "What must I do?"
"Really?" Kevin asked, hope filling his voice. His giant eye stared me down carefully. "Can you feel my curse?"
I closed my eyes, looking for that feeling in my gut. It was there, but faint. "Yes." I whispered. From there, I knew what to do. But it would take some time; I'd never done something like this before. "Can you stall?"
"I cannot."
I clicked my tongue. "I'll try to work fast, but one mistake will solidify the curse even more."
I clung to the back of the kraken, trying not to let go as it jerked this way and that. I knew it was in pain, fighting Will and them, but I couldn't heal him until the curse was broken. I'd almost had it when there was a massive explosion about the water and Kevin had to leave to regroup.
"Just a few more seconds...there!"
I opened my eyes to see the pieces of the black hull all around us. I was too late to save the Pearl, and too late to save Jack.
