[45] Dinner Date

"Are you ready yet?" Billie asked me from outside the bedroom door.

"Nearly!" I shouted back looking in the mirror at myself.

He was about to take me on the date he had promised, which made the black dress purchase very handy. He hadn't seen me in it yet, and I was a little nervous. Normally, dresses aren't my thing. I'll rarely ever wear a skirt.

I quickly ran my hands through my hair giving myself one last glance before walking away from the mirror and over to the door.

I opened it to see Billie sat down who was leaning on it, so from me opening it he fell back.

I laughed slightly and stepped back as he rushed embarrassedly to his feet and then gave me a childish boyish smile. Before his eyes diverted down to my dress. "Woah," he breathed out looking down.

"What?"

"You look- like- you look amazing," he complimented looking back up at me. "I love your dress,"

"You don't look too bad yourself," I beamed looking down at his outfit, skinny black jeans with a polo black shirt tucked into them and a red tie. And his signature black converse of course. "I like this black shirt and red tie combo,"

"You do?"

"Yeah,"

"T-thanks," he smiled playing with the bottom of his red tie.

It was nice to just stand with him. It was weird to be with him every single day to hardly seeing him anymore. So I didn't even mind if we just stood silently for the rest of the night. It was just the fact that his company was there.

"Well come on then," he smiled as he dropped the bottom of his tie and grabbed my hand eagerly. We headed down the stairs and Passed mike and Tre who was sat on the sofa watching some shitty channel on Spike TV.

"Where you guys going?" Tre asked us confused.

"Yeah, and since when did you wear ties?" Mike added.

"Since today," Billie boasted as he straightened it proudly.

"We're going on a date," I told them.

"You are?"

"Mhm, so can you guys not trash the place?" Billie rolled his eyes as he grabbed his car keys on the table that was filled with empty beer cans.

"That wasn't us!" Tre defended as mike nodded beside him in agreement both offended about the crime they were accused of that they didn't actually commit.

"Oh- those beer cans were me..." I quietly admitted to him laughing a little.

He just rolled his eyes and sighed before we said goodbye to the two idiots and left the house. It was already dark, and a little bit cold as we walked down the garden and got into billies car.

He started up the car as we turned on the radio and he began to drive. I had no clue where he was taking me, he just said somewhere nice.

"What's it like always at the studio now?" I asked him starting up a conversation while he drove.

"It's pretty fun until Britney starts getting annoyed with mike and Tre,"

"She doesn't get annoyed with you?"

"Not really,"

"Oh," I bluntly replied.

The atmosphere in the car went awkwardly quiet for a moment.

"You don't like her do you?"

"No, not one bit,"

"She's a good producer and she's great work in the studio Marsha,"

"I'm sure she is," I spat crossing my arms.

"C'mon don't be jealous," he smirked taking one hand off the steering wheel and shoving me playfully. I laughed slightly before uncrossing my arms.

"Fine, I'm sorry," I apologised. "It's boring without you guys home,"

"It is?"

"Yeah, Casey can't always come around and the other day Alice came over,"

"Why's that?"

"She forgot her necklace in mike's bedroom, but after that, she gave me a really sincere and nice apology,"

"So did you forgive her?"

"Yeah," I told him. "I guess I have missed her,"

"So are you going to prom with Alice then?"

"I don't even wanna think about prom," I scoffed.

"I'm sorry I can't be there," he sighed as we stopped at a red light. "I would come if I didn't have to work in the studio all the time. But it's just we've got this new album in mind and we need to-"

"-Yeah, it's fine." I cut him off.

"I miss you though, all the time. I wish I could come back home every night and see you like people with a regular job do,"

"You haven't got a regular job," I pointed out. "You've got an awesome job,"

"Well, it's not that awesome if I don't get to see you as much as I would like to,"

"Uhuh, Tell me about it,"

We fell back into silence as the red light turned green and the car began to start up again. After driving for a while Billie parked into this big restaurant. It seemed like it would be sorta fancy, and it looked pretty nice.

We got out as he offered his arm for me to hold on to, as I giggled lightly and took it.

We walked in and apparently Billie had called in early to make reservations for our table. So once we walked in Billie told the man stood with the papers our names and we were taken to our table.

"I've never been to this place in my life," I said to Billie over the table looking around at the many other people sat at their tables. Mostly seeming to be couples and lovers.

"It's pretty nice huh?"

"Yeah, how did you find out about this place?"

"Britney recommend it to me,"

"She did?"

"Uhuh,"

"Oh, well. I like this place, thanks for taking me here," I smiled slightly to him across the table.

"You don't have to thank me, you're my girlfriend," he chuckled lightly.

"I know, but it's just- it's nice to spend time with you."

"Yeah, I've hardly see you anymore. It sucks,"

"When do you finish the album?" I asked hoping that it was some time soon.

"I think we're not even halfway done,"

"Not even halfway! But you've been there for ages!"

"I know, I know," he breathed out. "But making a whole album takes time y'know?"

"I guess."

"Don't worry though," he smiled. "I'll still continue to ring you every day. And I'll try to come home as frequent as I can and I'll make it up to you by taking you out more and spending time with you,"

It was weird. I had gone from having as much as him as I wanted and could have. To being limited to how much time I would be able to spend with him. I went from listening to them all play in Billie joes basement to calling him up while he's in the studio and bugging out cause his song plays on the radio. I went from having him at just an arms-length to now having to catch up with him. He was normally there when everything happened. And now he's not, but that's not his fault. And I'm happy for him, I'm proud of him, it's just kinda sucks I can't see him as much.

We chatted about other things for a bit longer before the waiter came over to our table.

Stood beside the table was a brown haired tall girl with a uniform on and a name tag that read 'lily'. Her hair was slightly curly and her skin tanned.

"Hi," she smiled, mostly to Billie anyway, "What can I get you?"

Billie ordered, and so did I. Before she walked away twisting her hair around her finger playfully. I sighed becoming a little annoyed at it. But I couldn't let it ruin the day, after this night. It would be so many more lonely nights before I could spend another one with Billie. So I just had to appreciate every moment and every second for what it was. Even if it was girls flirting with him while I was sat right there.

"Y'know- at the studio when we get breaks. Mike, Tre and I write these stupid little songs and play them," he smiled childishly, "you'd find them Hilarious,"

"I would?"

"A hundred percent, also my mum called me up the other day. She made me speak with my stepdad on the phone- I just told him about the studio and stuff then used the excuse that my break was over and I needed to go," he told me, catching up on everything.

"I haven't really spoken to my mum in a while. Or Dylan, I don't know what's going on with them,"

"Haven't you gone and seen them?"

"No, I guess I just couldn't find any effort to do that,"

"Remember when we heard them having s-"

"-shut up!" I laughed covering my face embarrassed. "I don't want to remember that,"

He laughed too, as the laughter died down and I uncovered my face. He smiled lightly at me. "I've missed seeing you so much," he whispered.

"I've missed you too, I've missed your stupidness,"

The waiter came with our plaits of food and placed them in front of both of us, before giving Billie a little wink and sashaying off. And Billie did the same thing he did before, pretending not to even see it. Not even acknowledging what she did. Instead, he just smiled at me before we both began to start eating.

We didn't really talk much while eating, we just sort of devoured the food on our plaits. I hadn't eaten much all day and I'm guessing he hadn't either by the looks of it. But like I said- even his company was nice. Just to sort of have him around was nice.

After we had both cleared our plaits. The same waiter came over and placed the check down on the table as she gawked over at Billie. I wanted to say something real bad, but I didn't. I tried to ignore it like he was doing, and once he had paid we both stood up. He walked over to me and took my hand and placed a kiss on my cheek before smiling at the waiter and we walked out.

Once we left the building I began to giggle hysterically like a teenage girl. "She wouldn't take her eyes off of you,"

"Tell me about it," he laughed.

Before I could respond to him, a little girl Who must have been about ten at the most ran over to the both of us. With a youthful smile and happy eyes clenching a notebook in her two small arms. We both looked down at her before her tiny voice spoke up.

"Excuse me, sir- are you Billie Joe from Greenday?" She asked him.

I looked over at Billie, a smirk appeared on his face as he nodded. "Why yes, I am,"

"Can I get an autograph? Please!" She begged as she extended the notebook out to Billie.

Billie let go of my hand as he took it from her. "Why of course you can,"

"Aria!" We heard a women shout, Billie and I looked up to see a girl jogging over to us. She looked down at the little girl and sighed. "Aria why would you run off like that?"

"Mom look! It's the singer from green day," aria smiled happily pointing to Billie who began to go a little red at the attention he was suddenly getting from strangers. "He's signing me an autograph,"

"Aww that's so sweet of you," the woman smiled to Billie. "I'm so sorry if my daughter interrupted your erm-" she looked back and forth between me and Billie as Billie passed the girl back her pen and notebook. She looked as if she was trying to find the right word "-date, she must have just gotten super excited,"

"No worries," Billie shook his head smiling. "Its all good,"

"Are you sure?" She asked taking aria under her arm. And looked over at me too.

I began to nod too to assure her it was alright. "Yeah don't worry about it," I smiled.

"Well that's good, say goodbye aria,"

"Goodbye Billie Joe and Billie Joe's girlfriend," she smiled as she skipped off with her mother beside her.

I looked over at Billie sort of confused. "Did you just get noticed?"

"I think I did," he said also surprised. "I just signed my first-ever autograph."

"Isn't that awesome?" I smiled at him as we carried on walking to the car. He nodded happily as we climbed back into his car.

"That was so sweet of you by the way," I lightly smiled to myself as he looked over at me.

"Really?"

"Yeah," I looked up at him. "That was really cute,"

"C-c-cute?"

I nodded, "yes Billie, I knew you wasn't so punk badass when I first met you. Look at you- with your little sweet spot, I thought I was the only one that got to see the nice site of you,"

"Y-you are!" He babbled. "That was just a one off,"

"Whatever you say, Armstrong, So we heading back home?" I asked. He shook his head no.

"Not yet,"

"What do you mean not yet?"

"There's one more place I wanna take you before tonight ends,"

"There is?"

"Mhm," he told me putting on his seat belt. Ignoring my confusion I did the same as he started the car and I began to question him on where it was.

"Where's this place?"

"Surprise,"

"Can't you tell me?"

"Surprise,"

"Billie," I whined childishly.

"As I said, it's a surprise,"

"Fine." I sighed crossing my arms and slouching in the car seat. "I guess I'll just have to wait,"

"It won't even take us that long to get there, you're so impatient,"

"I'm not impatient! I'm just curious,"

After a while of us singing to the radio while he drove us to where ever he was I began to realize the familiar roads once again. But for some reason, I couldn't put my finger on it. All I knew in my head was I had been here before.

Billies car began to slow down as he parked. He looked over at me as I looked out the window desperately wanting to know where we are.

The familiar scenery of the sand and the sea met my eyes realising where we were. I turned to him and smiled lightly. "The beach,"

"Yeah," he smiled back bashful a little bit, "I thought it would be nice to come back here,"

"I haven't been here in what feels like forever,"

"Well," he laughed, "come on then," he opened the car door and climbed out as I also got out the car too.

Before stepping on the sand he swooped me up bridal style, as I laughed hysterically in his arms.

"Billie Joe!"

"Remember when I had to carry you like this the first time I took you here?" He asked me as I wrapped my arms around his neck to make sure I was secure.

"How could I forget,"

"You wouldn't shut up about getting sand in your converse,"

I giggled lightly, "Yeah so you just picked me up out of nowhere and carried me to the ocean peer,"

As we got closer to the peer, the familiar scent of the sea began to surround the both of us bringing back all the memories I shared with him here.

We reached the peer as he was sure to set me down carefully. As he placed me back on to my feet and we made our way to the end of the peer.

I looked at him as we were walking. I looked at him and everything he was. I looked at him admiring him. And although he didn't realise, he knew that I felt so strongly about him. At least I hope he does.

We reached the end as we sat down. Our legs hanging over the edge and the wind was blowing our hair ever so slightly. My arms had goosebumps rising up then from the lack of coverage on them. But I didn't mind that it was cold. Cause he was here.

He folded up the sleeves of his shirt so they reached his elbow and loosened his the up a bit. Before looking over at me and smiling.

That crooked grin that won my heart.

"You look really nice tonight," he whispered over to me. I'm not quite sure why he whispered it. But I didn't care. "I've missed seeing you,"

"I've missed seeing you more. Everything's boring without you."

"I'm sure it's not,"

"No- it is. Schools not the same without you,"

"But you were fine before I came to school,"

"That was before I realised what I was missing out on. Now you've dropped out it's not the same without you. Home isn't the same without you. Going to sleep isn't the same when you aren't there now. Everything's boring without you and it feels like nothing happens now you're somewhere else. Nothing ever happens without you,"

He smiled, for a second or two. He didn't say anything, he just smiled.

"What?" I asked him confused.

"I love you,"

Then I smiled. I did that big idiotic and goofy looking grin looking away before I told him I loved him too. "I'm gonna miss you when you go again,"

"I'll always be back, y'know that,"

"I know. Things are so different now. We went from being two idiotic teenagers hanging around. One with a dream and a band and the other with a boring life. We stayed in your basement for hours when you would do band practice. We had dates at the beach and at the bars. Getting drunk under the stars and smoking weed in your bedroom to this. To you being in a professional studio making your second album, moving in together and going to fancy restaurants for dates. Hardly seeing each other and me missing you as you've died. You're now on radios, getting recognized. I'm so proud of you, but everything that was once simple is now not."

Maybe I sounded a little selfish. And I wasn't meaning to be. I was as happy for green day than anyone could have been. I supported and still support them fully. I was there in band practices and when listening to their first album altogether.

But Billie use to be a simple boy. He use to be my simple boy. And now he's an upcoming star. And I can feel it, I know he's going to go big. I always knew he would. But I'll miss the old him. The one I sat and smoked with, I got drunk and confessed all my sins to, the one who was on the rooftop.

And yes, I adore the new him more than anyone else could. It's not that I'm ungrateful. I guess I just never realise how sudden things could change.

The Billie beside me use to sit around in band shirts and skinny jeans. Now he wears ties around his neck and chains on his belts. And I love that he's becoming a new person. But I'll forever love the old one. I'll miss him. But I'll be happy that he's who he is to whatever day it is.

I guess all I can say is I feel grateful to of known the old Billie. And I feel forever more privilege to know the Billie Joe now.

No matter which one he is anyway, I'll love him all the same.

"I know that things have suddenly taken one change and another without warning all of a sudden," he sighed. "And it's scary for me too, but I just keep thinking as long as I have you by my side I'm okay. As long as I have you on the other line of that telephone I'm okay. As long as I have you safe at home to go back to I'm okay. I know things have changed. But I'm thankful your company never did. You were there. And you still are. And it feels sometimes like I'm not, but I promise you. I always will be."

"You're right," I breathed out leaning my head gently on his shoulder as I looked over the sea, "Things have just changed so much. I'm trying to keep up with it all. But as long as you come home at the end of working at the studio for whatever amount of time I'm happy,"

"So what do you say... For old times sake... We get in,"

I took my head off his shoulder and looked at him confused. "Get in?" I reapted.

"Yeah, the water,"

"You wanna get into the sea now?"

"C'mon," he smiled as he stood up at the end of the peer. Looking down at me waiting.

"You're gonna get in with jeans?"

"Sorry did you want me to take them off?" He smirked.

I rolled my eyes as I stood beside him. We kicked off our shoes and emptied our pockets placing anything valuable beside our converse.

"Ready?" He asked me, with a big crooked smile on his face. I nodded. "Three, two, one!"

We both jumped as our feet left the peer and we made contact with the water creating a splash.

I got to the surface of the water before pulling my head from under it and looked around for Billie before he popped up in front of me smiling.

"It's cold," I complained as we swan in the water closer to the peer so we could stand.

"It's not that cold,"

Once we could, I felt his hands under the water pull me close to him. "Yes, it is,"

"I've really enjoyed tonight with you," he softly smiled.

"Me too," I agreed wrapping my arms around his neck.

"I love you,"

"I love you more,"

He didn't say anything else, apart from pulling me into a kiss. When my lips met contact with his and he held me tight and kissed me passionately... And a little rough. But I won't complain.
