[43] Red Dress

"I hate this one," I sighed looking into the full-length body mirror installed on the wall of the dress store.

"What!? Look at you!" Casey smiled behind me. "This dress screams you,"

"Dresses don't talk,"

"Shut up," she breathed out walking away. I ignored her looking into the mirror.

This was the third dress we had tried on, and I still wasn't satisfied. It was a light pink knee-length frilly dress. And it did not scream me at all. If anything it screamed at me to leave it alone.

"Alright, what about this one?" Casey asked coming back into view of the mirror. I spun around and looked at the dress on the clothing hanger in her hand.

"Nope, too poofy,"

She sighed loudly and walked away. But this time I followed her as we looked around for more dresses. It was obvious Casey didn't know what sorts of dresses I liked, but that was okay because I couldn't blame her. I never really wore them.

"I like this one," I admitted pulling up another dress. This one wasn't like the other ones Casey had made me put on. It was a simple a-Line black strapless dress. It reached just above the knees and didn't really have much to it.

She looked at it for a moment. "Isn't that really simple?"

"Is a prom dress not suppose to be simple?"

"I guess if you really wanted, but that just seems like more of a formal going out dress," she suggested.

"I guess you're right, but I really like it," I repeated looking back down at the dress in my hands.

"Buy it for going out in, like on dates and diners- Ooh look at this dress!" She squealed pilling out another one.

But I liked this one. Instead of the light colours she had chosen before, it was a strong red tone. It was also an a-line dress like the black one I had in my hands, but it was a bit longer than the black one. It had some nice thrills on the skirt section if it, but it didn't look too poofy like the other one. It was off the shoulder and didn't seem to have much complexity to it.

"You hate it don't you," Casey cringed as I carried on looking at the dress.

"No- no I like it," I told her taking the dress from her hands. I looked at it closer, admiring it a little. "Hold my black dress while I go try it on,"

She room the black dress from me as I happily skipped into the changing rooms feeling better now that I had found a dress I actually liked.

I got in and changed into it while I heard Casey humming outside the room waiting for me to come out with the dress on.

I took in a deep breath before opening the door and walking out the changing room, I was sorta scared for Caseys opinion on this one. Because I liked this dress, so if she didn't. Then I was back at stage one.

She looked me up and down with a huge grin on her face before her eyes landed back on her face meeting mine.

"So?" I asked her nervously, playing with the skirt of the dress moving it around in my hands and swishing it side to side. "What do you think?"

"I love it!" She squealed again. "It looks amazing! It's perfect! You have to get this dress!"

"Really!?"

"Yes!"

I quickly walked over to the mirror again before setting my eyes on how I looked.

She's right... this was definitely the right dress for me.

"What do you think? Do you like it? Do you think it's the one?" She asked me coming up behind me and setting her hands on my shoulders excited.

I nodded smiling. "Yeah... I do, I really like This dress,"

She squealed one more time in my ear excited as I quickly turned around to face her. "Casey shush!"

"I'm sorry I just- it's amazing! You're amazing! Y'know who would love this dress too?"

"Who?"

"Billie Joe,"

I rolled my eyes, it wasn't that I was annoyed. It was just a reminder he wouldn't see me in it. Maybe I would wear it after prom, but... it would be nice for him to see me in it at prom. Not when he gets home from the studio that night to find me passed out on the sofa next to a table full of beer cans.

"Billie isn't gonna be at prom though, so it doesn't really matter if he likes it,"

"I'm just saying," she shrugged.

I got changed back into my normal clothes and we walked up to the till to pay for the two dresses. The black and red one.

Once paying and having them put in a bag we left the dress store and carried on wandering around the mall again. That was before We ended up where we always did. The coffee shop.

"So mike and Alice are a thing Again?" Casey asked me confused trying to keep up with the story I told her as we sat down at a table.

"I don't know, I know they had a date before that night. So possibly,"

"And is Billie okay with mike now?"

"Pretty sure, I mean- they had to be okay with each other. They would be having to put up with each other in the studio every day. But I know billies still sorta angry about it,"

"Yeah," she nodded as the waiter came and asked us what drinks we wanted. We ordered our usual before they left and Casey carried on. "I do think Alice feels bad about the argument you and her had though,"

"What makes you think that?"

"She just seems guilty, she wanted to say something to you when I was there- I bet she wanted to apologise!"

I snorted laughing, "Casey y'know Alice doesn't apologise," I giggled.

Ring ring

"That's my phone," I said out loud grabbing it from my back pocket.

"Who is it?"

"Beej," I answered, I Accepted the call bringing it to my ear, "hello?"

"Hello there beautiful,"

"You can't even see me,"

"Don't ruin it I'm being nice, not to mention I don't need to see you I think I remember what you look like,"

I laughed slightly, "I thought you were at the studio?"

"I am," he confirmed, "I'm on break. I just wanted to ring you,"

"Why?"

"Cause I miss you,"

It did suck. I missed him too. He spent most nights at a hotel with mike and Tre that was closer to the stupid studio. And on days when he could be back, he would be back late, so he often asked me not to wait up for him because he didn't want me being all tired and sleep-deprived. But I'd always try, and fail.

"I miss you too,"

"Oh jeez," Casey laughed slightly sipping her cup of coffee.

"Who's that?" Billie asked me.

"Oh I'm with Casey at the coffee shop, say hi," I said to him taking the phone away from my ear and putting it on speaker.

"Hi Casey," Billie slightly chuckled.

"Hi Billie, tell Tre I said hi too!"

"I will," he said to her as I took it off speaker and brought the phone back to my ear. "So what you doing in the coffee shop?"

"We just- wanted to get out the house... y'know? Change of scenery?" I lied.

"Oh, well... when I get another day off. I'll take you out somewhere I promise, okay?"

"You don't have to do that-"

"-I know that you idiot, but I want to. To make up for not being able to see you,"

"Alright, well I'll look forward to it,"

"Billie, Britney needs us back in the studio," I heard mike faintly tell him in the background.

"Already?" Billie asked, before sighing. "I'm so sorry Marsha, I need to go. I love you,"

"Already? I love you too b-" the call ended. "Bye..?"
