[24] 4th place

I know I should have stopped thinking about what he said when the conversation between us was over. But it played over and over in my head ages after like a broken record or something.

I was in the bathroom getting ready for going bowling. Billie was out there getting changed so I was sort of waiting for him to let me know when he was done so I could come out and straighten my hair since I was already changed.

"Okay, you can come out now," I heard him say through the door. I came out and went and plugged my straighteners in. "I still don't understand why you needed to go into the bathroom while I got ready." He shrugged. "You saw me in my boxers and I saw you in your underwear."

"Oh shush Billie." I laughed sitting down in front of the mirror. He walked behind me and stood there as I saw him in the mirror.

"Can I do your hair?"

"No," I laughed. "Why would you want to?"

He shrugged. "Come on, I won't do it bad, it's just straightening it I can do that. Just let me." He begged as he pouted his bottom lip out.

"Fine." I gave in passing him over the hot straighteners.

He began picking up sections of my hair and carefully straightening them. I looked at him in the mirror, he was biting his bottom lip focusing. I thought about him not being able to stay home and having to move here.

Not being able to see him every day would hurt yeah, but not having him in my life at all would be much worse. I looked at him closely, he wasn't looking at me. He was too busy focusing.

"Okay, I think I've got it all." He smiled proudly at my hair then at me as he slowly and carefully set the straighteners down. I brought my hair in front of my shoulders and ran my fingers through it.

"Good job Beej," I smiled.

We went and got our shoes on and left the hotel room, we got into Billies car as he began to drive to bowling where we would meet Casey, Mike and Tre.

"Are you any good at bowling?" I asked him, looking over at him. His eyes on the road focusing but a crooked smile on his face.

"I'm a legend at bowling."

"Wow you are huh?" He nodded fast.

"Uh uh! I'm a master,"

"I thought you were a legend?"

"Shut up," he laughed quickly taking his arm off the steering wheel and shoving me, not hard but playfully as I laughed. We reached bowling as he parked the car in the parking lot, we got out and went inside to wait for Casey, Mike and Tre in the café.

"Hi love birds." Casey smiled walking into the café and swooping in on the seat next to mine.

"We aren't love birds." I told her pretending to frown.

"Hey losers," Tre joined pushing Billie up and sitting next to him as Mike joined.

"Hi Tre." I smiled.

"Hey guys, when are we going for the game?" Mike asked pushing up Tre and Billie and sitting down across from me and Casey.

"Well, we were waiting for you guys!" Billie said pushing up Tre and Mike for some space. "But now you're here we can go pay and get a lane."

Mike and Tre hopped up and so did I and Casey as Billie slipped up from his seat. We went and paid for our lane and put on the special bowling shoes and went down to our given lane.

Billie went up to the monitor and began putting everyone's name in.

'Tre', 'Mike', 'Casey', 'Marsha' and 'BJ'

We began to play as I sat down next to Billie, Tre was up first and Mike and Casey were chatting away to each other.

"I'm gonna go get a drink from the café, you want anything picking up?" I asked him pulling my money out from the back pocket of my jeans.

"I'm good,"

I got up and began walking to the café.

"What can I get you beautiful?" The guy behind the counter with the apron asked me, standing behind the cash machine. He had dirty blonde and messy hair and blue eyes, he must have been around my age and he looked mature and charming... but not in an old ageing person sort of way.

"I'll just have a slushy please." I smiled placing the money in front of him. He smiled and took the money.

"Anything for the pretty lady." He said picking up a plastic cup and going over to the slushy machine. "Any particular colour?" I shook my head meaning I didn't really mind.

Was he flirting... or was he just this polite and charming with everyone?

He placed it on the counter and put a straw in it. "Hey, you got a- an erm- a boyfriend by any chance?" He asked me.

Ah, so he was flirting.

"I erm-" I cut myself off as I felt an arm wrap around my waist and pull me in, being surprised and confused I looked over to only see Billie.

"I'm not her boyfriend, but she's still mine." He warned. I sighed trying not to smile before giving the boy an apologetic look as he awkwardly apologised to Billie, then took the slushy and we walked back to the lane.

"What was taking so long?" He asked me.

"Sorry I was in a conversation," I answered bluntly walking in front of him.

I sat down next to Casey as Billie took his go, slurping my slushy. "Want a bit?" I asked her pointing it her way, she shook her head looking in front of her. Sort of seeming pissed off. "Hey, everything okay?"

"Not really, Tres been avoiding me. He has hardly even talked to me while I've been here," she said using her hands as she talked. "He's been fine with everyone else! I was asking Mike if he had any idea at all, and he said not to worry about it. And he's probably just nervous." She told me. I was looking over at Billie, who was jumping around with his arms in the air celebrating the spare he had just scored. He cheered to himself like a child and looked around, to realise no one else had actually noticed. Tre and Mike were talking and Casey was still talking to me. He then looked over at me reading that I saw as he smiled softly. I know this might be a push, but the way he smiled as if to say if I saw it, then it's okay.

"You know?" She finished to me, after ranting which I had hardly actually listened to. I shook my head.

"Yeah, yeah. Casey, I know Tre comes across hyper, confident and nonchalant. But he's actually got this big insecurity that everyone prefers Mike to him. So he's probably really shocked you've taken an interest in him, and he's scared to screw it up." I said to her gently getting up and putting a hand on her shoulder. "Now, make a move. I need to go it's my turn." I walked away and took my go bowling.

We played for a bit longer, and Billie began to get a little annoyed That his name had flew to last place.

I sat next to him, his arms were crossed and he wasn't very impressed. "So you're not as good as I thought." I teased sitting closer to him, our thighs side by side touching.

"Shut up."

"Aww, lighten up wouldja." I teased pushing him.

"It's only because I haven't played in a while."

"So you're not a master?"

"Well- not exactly but a master is a-"

I cut him off. "-or a legend?"

"Well, a legend is a far big stretch I-"

"-Looks like you're not very good at all."

He laughed lightly. And looked up at me. "Yeah yeah, okay maybe I'm not as good as I made out to be." He confessed.

"Well, why did you make out that you were then?"

"I dunno," he shrugged. "I guess I was trying to impress you."

"You don't need to impress me Beej!" I laughed leaning my head on his shoulder. "I'm already yours, just like you said."

"But technically... you aren't." He said, sort of sadly.

"I would be if you asked me."

"You would?"

"Billie it's your turn again!" Mike shouted, Billie looked at me. Then Mike then ran over to do his go. I watched him as he picked up a ball, and walked over to the top of the bowling alley with it. He already looked as if he had already accepted he was gonna get another gutter ball. So he swung with no effort, and we all watched it go down. And Knockdown, every. Single. Pin.

"H-hey guys I got a strike!" He said turning around to everyone, with a big crooked grin. "I actually got a strike I didn't cheat or anything I actually got it!"

"I saw Billie." I laughed. Everyone else laughing at his excitement too.

"Did you guys see that!" He shouted getting more excited, close to another celebration. We all nodded. "I GOT A FUCKING STRIKE!" He shouted as he began to dance, once again.

I looked up at the scoreboard, his name was now over mine meaning he had surpassed me in points.

Once our game was over we all changed back to our shoes and left the bowling place. Casey and Tre were finally talking- well... flirting. And Billie and I said goodbye to everyone and I and headed back to his car.

"So," he smiled looking over at me. "How does it feel to be last?"

"Oh shush! You only got fourth place because of that strike!" I teased. He hadn't exactly started to drive yet so we sat in the car, still parked.

"But, I wasn't last." He smiled, booping me on the nose like I was a child as he began starting the car.

I loved him, I loved him a lot. Maybe I loved him even more since the night I had told him, maybe I loved him more than I had let on, maybe I loved him more than I had even realised. And I had never felt like this for anyone my entire life.

I had never liked anyone my entire life as if I had been waiting for the one. For him- buts that's just a huge stretch. Right?

"Do I get a reward tonight for winning?" He smirked, looking in front of him at the road.

"You didn't even win Billie!"

"But do I get a reward?"

"Not yet."

"Not yet!? Yet?" He asked sort of unsurprised I was going to say no, but getting more than what he had actually expected. I nodded.

"I'll take it!"
