[23] if

I woke up in the bed in mine and Billies hotel alone. Where had he gone?

I got out of bed confused as I looked in the bathroom, he wasn't there, did he quickly go to the shop or something? Or was he with Mike and Tre? I went over to the phone to give them and ring and ask them if they had any idea where Billie had gone when a spotted a note.

'Gone to band practice with Mike and Tre, didn't want to wake you up. I'll be back around three x

BJ'

"Oh," I said to myself as I walked back and sat on the bed. It was only ten, so that gave me a whole five hours to find something to do in a place I didn't even know where I was on my own.

I then remembered last night, when I and Billie confessed how we felt, did that mean... we were a thing- or does it have to become official by one of us asking the other? I had never really been a relationship or feelings for that matter sort of a person until Billie strolled into town.

But everything he said, replaying the moment in my mind gave me the strongest Butterflies in my stomach I had ever experienced.

He loved me, and I loved him. That's crazy.

But he's not here, and I have no one and nothing to do. There wasn't exactly any good WiFi either in this hotel.

I made the bed, made some food by the time it was twelve then decided to give Alice a ring.

"Hi Alice,"

"Hey! How's it going, Mike told me you went with him, Tre and Billie."

I did actually consider this time telling her what happened between me and Billie, but I don't think she would really be that interested. "It's okay, I saw Casey the other day though."

"You did!? How is she?"

"She's great, she's great," I repeated sitting down on the bed. "But she misses you, she misses home y'know?"

"Yeah," I heard her say in an understanding way. I would think she would be mad at me for not telling her and just going for a week, but she seemed in a real good mood. "I miss her too."

"So what's going on with you? You're in a good mood." I teased. I heard her giggle down the line, since when did she giggle?

"Well!" She started. "Mike asked me out last night so we're officially a thing! And he promised me when we get back to take me out somewhere."

So you did have to ask,

"Aww congrats Alice! But I have a question..."

"Go for it."

"So you know when you confess you like someone and they confess back, do you have to make it official becoming, y'know 'a thing'?" It felt so immature to refer to two people being together as 'a thing' but I guess I had been surrounding myself with immature people my whole life, and I wasn't very mature myself either.

"Yeah I would think so, they ask you if you want to be their girlfriend, why?"

"Oh no reason."

We chatted for a bit longer than I said goodbye as Billie would be coming back over to the hotel soon. And I was kind of nervous seeing him.

Maybe it was the suspense of having to wait hours after we had poured our hearts out to each other last night. Or maybe it was just my nerves and my consensus worrying that things will be awkward.

"Honey I'm home!" Billie shouted coming through the hotel door, I couldn't help but laugh.

"You left me for hours for nothing to do!" I playfully shouted as he came and sat down on the sofa next to me. I was watching some police chase, but my mind had been zoning out so I'm not completely sure what actually was going on right about now.

"You're fine, you watching tv."

"I don't even know what's happening."

"Well," he said turning to me. "I apologise greatly for leaving you for band practice."

"You should have got me up!"

"You was asleep!" He laughed. "I couldn't handle you being grouchy with me so I just left, I left you a note though!"

"Yes how sweet," I said sarcastically, but still in a joking way so he knew I was playing.

"Fine, to apologise I will take you out."

"You will? Where to?"

"Well later on me, you, Mike, Tre and Casey could go bowling? I was talking it over with Tre whose idea it originally was," he explained going over to the fridge and taking out a chocolate bar, as he took off the wrapper and biting into it. "I think he's got a thing for that Casey chick y'know," he spoke, his mouth half full of food.

"Billie don't talk with your mouth full."

"Sorry, mom." He laughed as he went and sat at the end of the bed. He threw himself back laying and looking up at the ceiling.

"I'm pretty sure Casey likes Tre. She was telling me the other morning how cute he is or something like that. I sort of zoned out but I mean it's glad to see Tre's over Alice."

He nodded in agreement. "At least. I was- no offence- sick of hearing about her." He laughed. "Also did you know they're a thing now?" He asked me getting up from his laying down position over the blanket on the bed.

"I did, I rang Alice this morning she told me how he's gonna take her out when we get back."

He cringed. "If."

I looked at him confused, furrowing my eyebrows. "What do you mean if?"

"If we get back."

"What are you talking about?" I asked, sort of getting worried.

"Here's the thing." He sighed. "If we do get signed up after the gig tomorrow night. We're gonna have to, well y'know..."

I knew exactly what y'know meant. But I looked at him waiting to add on to that.

"Move here." He finished.

"What?" I said getting up off the sofa. "You're joking, right? You didn't tell me that when we came here!"

"No no!" He said quickly getting up too. "Obviously we'll have to go back for a bit to get our stuff together so we can. Move."

"But Billie- what- what am I gonna do!?"

"What do you mean?"

"You're moving! And I'm gonna end up going back to my old lifestyle while you're here!"

"Move with me," he spoke. Looking up at me in my eyes.

"You're crazy. Billie, I can't-"

"-why not?"

"I'm my moms only thing left. She hasn't got anyone else but me Beej. She doesn't have a boyfriend or a husband or any other kids, fuck sake we don't even have a dog or a fish for that matter." I said quietly. As I walked closer to him. "I can't leave her, and even if I could she wouldn't let me. She's too overprotective and I couldn't do that to her."

He sighed. And looked away. "So what happens if, I do get signed up?" He gulped. I gulped too. As much as I wanted him to get signed up. To see him get everything he deserves for the many hours, money and hard work went into his band. A small part of me now wanted him not to... a selfish part of me. So I could have him to myself.

But I would forever and always feel guilty.

"I guess that's the end of the road for us." I shrugged. The words hurt to come out.

"Don't say that." He said looking over at me, his voice cracked as he grabbed my hands and held them. "I couldn't leave you."

"But this is for your band Beej, you've worked so fucking hard for this and I know deep in my heart you're gonna go somewhere and you're gonna make it big. And I can't watch you throw that away. You've got so much talent, the three of you have. It wouldn't be fair to waste it... well. On me."

"It wouldn't be a waste, you make me happy."

"And so does music."

He went silent. I could see the pain in his eyes, and I felt the pain in my heart.

"Couldn't you, and your mom move up here?" He suggested. I could see he knew that was impossible but he still wanted to suggest it. Like he didn't want to accept that I wouldn't be there for him one day.,

"I doubt it."

"But I can't leave you."

"Do you have to move if you get signed? Is there not a way you can get signed and stay home?" I suggested.

"Well, I guess if by chance someone from round home signed us up. But I'm guessing most people that will be there will be from around here." He shrugged. "But we can always hope."

"Always. Just got to keep our fingers crossed." I smiled sort of painfully, he kissed me softly on my head.

"I'll find a way. I promise."
