Chapter 52: The Final Moments Before Forever
The bridal suite at Naomi's house was buzzing with quiet excitement. The scent of fresh flowers filled the air, mingling with the faint notes of soft music playing in the background. Isabella stood in front of the mirror, her wedding dress flowing around her like a dream, delicate lace trailing down to the floor. Her veil cascaded down her back, framing her face in an ethereal glow.
Naomi stood behind her, adjusting the final touches on the dress, while Joelle sat on the bed, watching in awe.
"You look like a princess, Mom," Joelle said, her voice filled with admiration.
Isabella turned to her daughter, her heart swelling at the sight of her in her flower girl dress, her dark curls perfectly styled. "Thank you, baby," she whispered, pressing a soft kiss to Joelle's forehead.
Naomi smiled at the moment between mother and daughter before stepping forward with a pair of earrings in her hand. "Here, these belonged to my mom. I think they'd be perfect for today."
Tears welled in Isabella's eyes as she took the delicate earrings from Naomi. "Are you sure?"
Naomi nodded. "You're family. And today is special."
Isabella carefully put them on, feeling the weight of the moment settle deep in her chest.
With her hair styled in soft waves and her makeup flawless, Isabella took one last look in the mirror. This was it. The moment she had waited for.
But there was one more thing she needed to do.
Taking a deep breath, she turned to Naomi. "Can you go find Jey for me?"
Naomi's eyes softened with understanding. "Of course."
A few minutes later, Jey walked into the room, his suit already perfectly in place. His usual playful energy was replaced with something softer, more solemn, as he took in Isabella standing there, looking every bit the bride.
"What's up, Isa?" he asked, shoving his hands into his pockets.
Isabella hesitated for a moment, nerves creeping in. "I wanted to ask you something," she said, her voice quieter than usual.
Jey raised a brow. "Anything."
She met his gaze, emotion tightening her throat. "I know this is last minute, but... would you walk me down the aisle?"
Jey blinked, caught off guard. "You serious?"
She nodded, tears glistening in her eyes. "You and Jimmy have been like brothers to me, but you... you've always looked out for me in a way that meant a lot. I don't have my father here, and I can't think of anyone I'd rather have by my side in that moment."
For a second, Jey said nothing. His jaw tightened, his lips pressing into a firm line as he fought back his own emotions. Then, after a beat, he exhaled deeply and stepped forward, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Damn, Isa," he muttered. "You trying to make me cry before the wedding even starts?"
She let out a soft laugh, wiping at her eyes. "So... is that a yes?"
Jey scoffed, shaking his head with a smirk. "Hell yeah, it's a yes. It'd be an honor."
Relief flooded through Isabella, and before she could second-guess it, she pulled Jey into a tight hug. He held her for a moment before stepping back, clearing his throat.
"Alright," he said, his voice a little rougher now. "Let's get you married."
Naomi reappeared in the doorway, beaming. "It's time."
Joelle grabbed Isabella's hand, giving her one last squeeze. "You ready, Mom?"
Isabella took a deep breath, her heart pounding. She looked at her daughter, at Naomi, and then at Jey, the man who would be giving her away to the love of her life.
She smiled.
"I'm ready."
