The Earth Mask
About two hours later, they stopped in front of many caves called the Caves of Despair. Even though it was covered in snow you could still see the light brown dirt from underneath. The six knights are still wondering what Sensei Wu had in mind when they came across this 'Item' that he talked so much about.
The Knights put all their belongings with the horse and came to the very front of the caves entrance which was six different directions. Wu stood in front of all of them, "What you are searching for is a mask. This mask is meant for the Master of Earth to wear, but no one has ever found it or used it except my father" Wu stated.
"So which way is it Sensei?" Cole asked.
Wu walked towards Cole and looked him up and down, "That's for you to know my pupil" He chuckled.
The Earth knight looked at him confused as if he went crazy, "You will all spilt up and go through the cave you think is correct, but I must warn you; if you do find the mask then there is an obstacle that will prevent you from getting that. Are we clear?" Wu said.
All the knights except Lloyd nodded, "I don't think we should split up Uncle. I think it is very unwise" Lloyd said with a snarl.
"I think he is just mad that Cole murdered his horse, and doesn't want to trust him with a mask" Kai teased.
The green knight's face was starting to turn red, "No. I think that through this case we should stick together to have each others back just in case" Lloyd said to prove his case.
"Lloyd if we split up then it would be a better chance of finding the mask" Zane assured the green prince.
Lloyd sighed in defeat, "Fine, but if something happens then don't come to me and complain" he said.
"Alright then, I guess I'll do the first one, Jay you do second, Kai third, Lloyd fourth, Zane fifth, and Nya sixth. And we'll see what happens from there. Sensei will stay on guard if any of us gets into trouble" Cole explained. The group nodded and started heading down their caves while Sensei stay out in the cold with the mare.
Down in the first cave was Cole, the Master of Earth. The cave was a little warm, dry, and somewhat empty. If you make a noise then it would only echo the sound over a hundred times just to annoy you. It was pitch black and you could barely see anything, but thanks to the sunlight from outside you could see a little better.
It's maybe about five minutes into the cave and the knight in black was getting pretty annoyed as the echoing started to get louder and louder as and it wasn't even from him! Then as he looked forward he saw a dim bright light, "I guess this cave only brought me back to where I started" Cole complained as he walked to the light.
What was weird about it though, was that there was a chunky rock in the very middle of the path. As Cole got closer to it he then realized that one top of the rock was a mask shaped as a what looks like a gorilla head with black woods carvings, green highlights, and fangs to go along with it. As Cole stepped up to the rocky stand he got a closer look at the mask and it wasn't even chained or nothing.
Without thinking he grabbed the mask only for the ground to start shaking. "That probably wasn't a very resourceful idea" Cole mumbled to himself. The once stood chunk of rock that held the mask fell through the floor and a big wonky figure came in it's place. It had big black and brown wings with sharp fangs, had four legs, and it's texture looked as if it was rock. "It's--It's--- A DRAGON!" Cole screamed in fear as he ran the opposite way of the dragon.
The dragon was catching up on the knight and couldn't think of anything but run. Then an idea popped up in his head, he put on the mask and everything changed. Cole stopped and turned to face the dragon and slammed his fist to the ground, crumbling the ground from him to the dragon. The floor fell beneath the dragon and it fell down with it.
Cole ran back towards the opening of the cave to see everyone already with sensei, but not what he would've thought they were. Most of them were literally gasping for air, some were covered in dirt or mud, and about half were leaning on each other. "I got the mask" Cole stuttered happily taking off the mask off his face.
Lloyd walked up to Cole and something that no one thought he would do, he slapped Cole across the face leaving a red hand mark on his pale skin. "You are an IDIOT!" Lloyd screamed at the black knight.
"Lloyd it was only-" Nya tried to say, but Lloyd interrupted, "NO he knew what the consequences were and completely ignored them."
Cole was still confused as he rubbed the part of his face that was hit, "what did I do?" Cole asked a bit mad and hurt.
"You put on the mask! And you USED it! Kai sprained his ankle trying to run away from the collapsing floor, Zane's was trapped under the dirt, Jay can't barely breath, and Nya's is coughing dirt out of her lungs!" Lloyd yelled.
"In my defense, NO ONE told me that I couldn't use the mask" Cole stated.
"It was an-- Accident-" Jay wheezed as he leaned on Nya for support.
"Well you have to live with your mistakes. So as punishment you have to carry everyone's luggage and no riding on the horse" Lloyd demanded as he walked away from Cole to the horse.
Cole sighed, "Look guys I'm sorry I didn't mean to" Cole tried to say until Zane dropped in, "Don't worry about it. You didn't know and I bet it was for a good reason." After the drama Nya brought Jay and Kai over to River and helped Kai get onto the horse. After she succored Kai on River, Jay and her went over to a empty, quiet space to talk.
"Why did you- You need-" Jay wheezed as he held his hand firmly on Nya's shoulders.
"My brother needs that horse more than I do Jay. Besides, I need to tend you with your wheezing and I need to start walking if we want our little secret to stay a secret" Nya assured him. He nodded in agreement and they both started to head the way of the others.
