Chapter 1

In a hall of guillotines, two students walked calmly under the hanging blades without a care. One blond, who walked with the utmost seriousness of a straight A student and one white haired 'cool guy' character who walked without a single care in the world.

"So, Maka?" The white haired 'cool guy' asked the female walking beside him as he look up nonchalantly at the giant blades poised above their heads. "Any idea what Lord Death might want with us?"

"I'm not sure Soul. I mean..." She started, her brow furrowing in frustration. "It could be because of our last mission."

"Which part? The confusing the magical cat for a witch and eating one of her nine souls or the fact she now lives with us?"

Maka simple sneered in response, remembering all the antics and stunts Blair pulls at random. Especially when she sneaks into Soul room and tries to seduce him. Luckily nothing happened cause cool guys don't cheat on their partners, but that didn't stop Maka from kicking his head in this morning. Or the times she 'kindly' made them lunch, which was all just burnt fish that not even the world greatest tartar sauce could save.

Unknown to the two of them, a silent individual stood atop of of the many guillotines. Spying them with a smirk as he gripped his chain-scythe in hand. The boy was dressed in ninja attire, yet his bright baby blue star shaped hair really didn't fit with the stealth part.

"Look at those two. Simply walking away without knowing I'm here." He smirked to himself as he looked to his weapon.

"Black Star." A feminine voice came from the blade. In it shine, it revealed a young woman with long black hair tied back into a ponytail. "Remember, you are an assassin. It is prudent to always be able to get the drop on your target. Wait for the perfect moment and strike. Vanishing into the shadows." She in a serious tone.

"Assassin's Rule Number 1: Erase your breath and fade into the darkness." Black Star spoke as he began to T-pose in an attempt to prove his dominance. "Assassin's Rule Number 2: Analyze your foe to predict his thoughts and control his movements!"

"Black Star! Get down from there you idiot!" Soul shouted at him, catching the boy by surprise.

"I'm guessing Lord Death wanted to you guys too?" Maka asked as the air around ninja boy began to deflate.

"Whoopsie! I guess you were too loud." The black haired woman giggle nervously as she manifested herself from one of the blades.

"That's to be expected from a big guy like me, though! Right Tsubaki?!" He laughed like an idiot, making his partner sigh in defeat.

The two soon descended the giant structure they were perched on and joined their fellow students down the path. It was surprisingly long considering its was in the middle of a school and it was still an office by technicality. Though seeing how the head master of said school was the grim reaper himself, they did not question it. All they cared about at this moment was for whatever reason he wanted them there, which could only mean it was serious.

After a good few minutes of walking, they finally came across the stage set with a large mirror that was used as a phone of sorts. But that wasn't what had concerned them in the slightest. What truly set them on edge was a mysterious figure who sat alone beside the mirror. A young man who was dressed in several layers of clothing, surely uncomfortable seeing as it was actually late summer in Death City. Even with the schools air conditioning lowering the temperature. Though, his most prominent feature in his choice in wardrobe were the long scarves wrapped over his face and head, save for a few locks of green highlighted hair. Printed on his scarves, was the visage of of three eyes over his face. A detail that they all knew too well from the many textbooks the teachers had the read.

"Who are you?" Black Star asked rather aggressively at the sight of the stranger.

The man only stared at them for a few seconds, before gesturing to the the mirror behind him. Standing himself up, he walked over to it. Gently breathing over the glass before writing on it. 42-42-564, whenever you wish to knock on Death's door. The screen glowed with a rippling effect, soon revealing a tall individual. Who, for the lack of a better term, looked like a cartoon with his amorphous body.

"Hey, hey, hey! What's up, kiddos?!" The 'man' excitedly greeted them. "So glad you all could join us today! I hope you are all doing well!"

"Greetings Lord Death." Maka gave a smile as she reciprocated his greetings. "We're fine all things considered."

"Good to hear! And I see you have meet your new classmate!"

"This weirdo? Yeah, what's his deal?" Soul questions while pointing over to the man standing a few feet away from them.

"Yeah! I haven't seen him around here at all!" Black Star yelled out, seemingly peeved that someone had a more 'out there' look than him.

"While I don't exactly agree with Black Star's tone, I am wondering what's going on. If he's a student for our class we'd have seen him around since he would've had to be in the NOT class." Tsubaki stated kindly, looking over to their newest classmate. Offering him a small smile when there (supposed) gazes met.

"Well normally the first years do take a year in the NOT class in order to fully decide on their future, little Izuku here is a bit trickier case." Lord Death explained with a bit less enthusiasm. "But regardless he is your classmate and as an introductory course of sorts he will be joining you four on your remedial lessons!"

"REMEDIAL?!" They all yelled in unison.

"B-but aren't those saved for the failing students!?"

"Yeah! I'm too cool for those stupid things!"

"Ha Ha ha!" Black Star laughed moronically before annoyed Death gave him a firm Reaper Chop.

"This is no laughing matter!" Death scolded the unconscious Black Star, Tsubaki bowing profusely while apologizing for him. "These remedial lessons are so the rest of the faculty will know you are still worth keeping around. While I acknowledge that each of you have great skills and score decently for academics, the four of have collected ZERO souls in the past month."

"But sir! Me and Soul! We collected our 99 souls once!"

"Yeah! I know we failed to get the witch soul but how were we supposed to know she was a fricking cat?!"

"Black Star I have to admit could take his job more seriously, but we try our best!"

"I know that this comes a blow but its still going to happen. You all need to do this so you are going to do it! Izuku is only joining in so he could put his training to the test so he's not going to risk expulsion."

The students could say nothing at this comment. Seeing as they have been lacing recently they can only blame themselves. With an audible sigh, he looked over he students.

"I am sure as you are aware of the rumors going around as of late."

"The ones about Sid? Yeah, but I thought they were just that." Maka paled at the thought of what they were going to end up doing.

"Yes, well you see he has indeed died and unfortunately didn't stay dead. The poor man has be resurrected by some unknown force and is now stalking the night."

"But why? Sid was always a great man and was very patient with his students. Even Black Star!"

"After rising from the dead, Sid has been free from his fear of dying. Now he wants his students to be free of this free of their fears and join him as an undead. It is a sad truth, but I am charging you all with bringing he soul to rest." Death told them, looking over to the now conscious Black Star. "I understand it will be difficult for you. Seeing as Sid was our adoptive parent."

"I can handle this. If the old man is back then we can just make sure he stays dead." Black Star said, his aura much more solemn.

"Good. Now go on to the cemetery. Its going to be dark soon." The students nodded, turning away leave. Izuku trailing behind them carefully, sparring a final glance to Death who waved him off. 'I hope this goes well. Be careful.'

~Time-Skip~

The moon cackled wickedly overhead, the faint sight of blood dripping from its mouth a clear visual for the night to come. The five students had awaited in the graveyard four hours now, scanning for any sign of their former teacher. None of the really sure what they were doing seeing how the stress of possible expulsion was starting to sink in.

"I can't believe this. After all my hard work!" Maka teared up as she held onto a dead tree. "I was supposed to be a great scythe meister like Mom. Make a Death Scythe stronger than that idiot! Why?!" She cried out as Tsubaki could only try and console her.

"Calm down! I'm sure it will all work out fine!" She nervously laugh.

"Get out here, Sid!" Soul yelled at the man's grave, simply reading 'SID'. "I swear I'm gonna eat your soul for this!"

"Hey you think he'll come out if we piss on his grave!" Black Star smiled like an idiot as he wrapped his arm around his friend.

"Heck yeah! Lets take a dump while we're at it!"

Izuku could only deadpan(?) at the sight he saw before him. Thinking nothing of it, he walked over to the form meister's grave. Placing a few small flowers he had picked onto the stone in respect. He clapped his hands in prayer for a moment. A shocked expression making itself present as he stared over at the still crying Maka.

Dashing toward the girls, he grabbed onto his scarf, launching it at her. The others were shocked by this but then, a hand popped out of the ground to grab her ankle just as his scarf had wrapped around her torso. He jerked her away just as a giant blue figure jumped out of the ground. The girl landing near her partner as she looked upon the tall tattooed man.

"Good reflexes. Excellent work of using such an interesting choice of arms. Clearly you had plenty of training." The ridged blue zombie smiled as he looked gazed at his former students. "Tsubaki, Black Star, Soul, Maka, and a new face. Good morning, good afternoon, goodnight."

Sid stepped over to his grave, carefully moving the flowers before tearing the stone from the ground. Placing the large object below his arm and aiming the top at the students.

"I offer my thanks to you, scarf boy. Its good to know that someone has some respect for the dead around here." He chuckled, looking over to see the meisters wielding their weapon partners. "Ding, Dong! Dong, Ding! Its time for first period, I was always one for punctuality."

"Sid, just what have you become?" Maka muttered in shock and horror.

"Just a plain old zombie. Amazing isn't it?" He smirked in wicked glee.

"No way in hell is that at all cool!" Soul yelled from his weapon, baring his teeth like some kind of wild animal.

"This is gonna be fun. The great Black Star is giving you a lecture today, old man." The ninja child snickered with a smile. "Free of charge of course. Cause I'm such a big person."

"Not like we'd be able to learn from a decaying piece of flesh to begin with!"

"Oh, you poor ignorant children." Sid grimaced with a sneer. "To be free of death. That fear will never loom over you. A life with nothing to fear and no consequences! Isn't that enticing?"

"You're wrong an you know it!" Maka yelled out, dashing towards Sid with Soul in hand to strike him down.

"You'll understand when you're dead, brats!" Sid jumped overhead to dodge. Swinging his grave to smash her, only for it to be stopped by Tsubaki's chain.

"Don't think you can just ignore me!" Black Star yelled as he tugged on his chain, slamming Sid into a row of stone.

"Don't start thinking you morons have a shot! One-Stars like you don't have the skills to even come close to me!" Sid yelled as he got to his feet. "Ding, dong! Dong, Ding! Second period starts now kids! Oh, and I forgot to tell ya! After this lesson, you're all dead! Ha ha ha!"

"Well I guess skipping class will be good for us then. Maybe I'll just head home for a bath."

"I'd like to see you try!" Sid dashed at them to swing his grave. But at a sudden shock to everyone, Izuku beat him to the punch. Shattering his grave into pieces.

'I didn't even see him move!' Sid thought as Izuku wound up his fist again, quickly landing before he had to to think. Sending him straight into the hook bearing tree.

'Such power!' Maka thought in shock. 'He wasn't even using his soul wavelength and he sent Sid flying!'

"I ain't missing out on this performance!" Black Star yelled as he ran over to Sid, Maka falling right behind him.

"Alright! Now we're getting somewhere!" Soul enthusiastically stated with a grin.

"Don't celebrate yet kids!" Sid yelled as he tore the tree from its roots. Using it to block an attack from Maka, pushing her away. "Dammit! Why are you so sloppy!? Don't you idiots know you need to establish a connection! Meisters are supposed to bond with their partners! Weapons aren't tools you know!"

"Are you really giving advice to the people trying to re-kill you?!" Black Star yelled as he dove down at him.

"I always took my job a s a teacher seriously! I thought I taught you better than that Black Star!" He yelled as he swung the tree at Black Star, launching him back into the air. "Then again, I guess I just need to teach you to die!"

"LIVING END!!!" He slammed Black Star into the ground with a massive shock-wave, a burst of energy shaped like a cross surging through the air.

"Black Star!" Maka yelled in worry, seeing the image of Sid briskly walking through the smoke with the tree over his shoulder. 'Sid was a Three-Star level Knife-Meister but even though he's using a dead tree with his fighting style. I'm almost scared of what he would've done if Izuku hadn't destroyed his grave.'

"Ding, Dong! Dong, Ding!" Sid laughed manically. "Class is over and its time to die! So tell me kids, are you afraid?" He readied himself for another attack, only to be met with a familiar scarf wrapping around his body. Before he knew it, the masked teenage was right in front of him. Landing a powerful kick at his center. 'So silent, and he aimed right for the solar plexus. This kid has been trained well.'

"Damn that hurts." Black Star wheezed as he stood up, Tsubaki taking the form of a giant shuriken in his hand. "Don't you dare think you can run away from me!" He threw the throwing star right Sid, who use this moment to drag Izuku forward into the line of fire. On reflex, he unwrapped his scarf in order do dodge.

"You really are reckless, Black Star!" Sid yelled as he jumped into the air, bouncing on the returning shuriken. "Then again you always were a bit-Gyah!" He was cut off by the sudden shock of Izuku's scarf catching his leg. Izuku tugged at the weapon and slammed Sid into the ground once again.

"Damn! You're starting to get annoying, Scarf Boy!" Sid yelled out as he got to his feet. "LIVING END!!!" He yelled ounce again as he jumped passed Izuku, right over Maka. With a retched smile he slammed down again, letting loose his energy. Only to be shocked to see Maka had narrowly dodged the wooden tree.

"This entire time you've been saying we need to forgo our fear, but you're wrong!" She growled as she swung her legs back into Sid's face to send him back. "We need our fear to survive! It helps grow stronger! It gives us courage!" She screamed as she stomped his face into the ground, jumping off it and taking a stance beside Izuku.

"Hey, Izuku! I think you might wanna step back a bit!" Soul called out from his blade. "Sid may have been onto something earlier so I want you to stay back while Maka tries to match our wavelengths."

"But that hasn't worked or us before. Not even a little bit!"

"Like the odds ever stopped us before, just trust me it'll be great!"

Maka looked to Soul with a nod, looking over to Izuku who jumped away onto a nearby grave. She drew a deep breath as she positioned Soul's blade over her shoulder. Glowing as she and Soul bonded their souls with into. Soon the blade sprouted a second half at the end, growing into the shape similar to the moon.

"The legendary skill known of the scythe meister!" She swung her blade to strike him down. "Witch Hunter!" But her foot slipped in the loose soil, sending her blast towards Black Star.

"Watch it Maka! What are you to kill us!?" He yelled in exasperation.

"What the hell, Soul?!"

"The fuck you getting mad at me for?! You're the one who messed it up idiot! DIE!"

"Die?! How could you say that?! We're supposed to be partners you asshole!"

'That much power in a single strike.' Sid thought as he looked over the destruction, his eyes wandering over to the shockingly calm Izuku still perched on a grave. 'And that boy is still a total mystery. I can't get a single read on his soul, its as if he's repressed his presence to near nonexistence. And his weapon, I swore I met someone with something like it before. Something isn't right about him.'

"I just wanted to do things the simple way! Is that so much to ask?!" Maka yelled as she ran to Sid to try and cleave him with her scythe. But, as any experienced Pokemon player would know, the wild Zombie Sid used Dig to escape.

"What?!" She yelled out. A hand immediately reached from the ground to grab her but Izuku used his scarf to pull her away. The hand slowly sinking back down as she landed beside him and Black Star.

"He's underground." Black Star muttered as he grew eerily quiet. Moving into a stance, he closed his eyes in focus, his aura calming greatly.

"Sid is using the arts of the assassin." Tsubaki stated as she focused with her partner

"Dissolve into the darkness and erase your breath. Wait for the perfect moment to strike down your target." He channeled his power into Tsubaki's chain scythe. "The stage has been set. Trap Star."

'He's so silent now. So this is what its like for him to take thing seriously.' Maka thought as she looked to Izuku, who matched Black Star's lead with his scarf. The cloth waving through the air with subtle notes of his soul wavelength glowing on it. 'And he's clearly have the same thoughts. That gear of his isn't normal but there is something about it. The way he fights makes it clear he's been through rigorous training but I can't tell much about him.'

She yelped in surprise as the scarf tangled around her, lifting her up into the air as he jumped outside of the Trap Star. As soon as they were off the ground, Sid jumped up from the ground with his shiv in hand. A wicked smirk across his brow before furrowing in shock as the chained snapped to life around him.

"Trap Star activate!"

In a flash, the chains wrapped around Sid's body. Restraining his body and prevent any for of escape. Black Star laughing incredulously at his own victory as Soul, Maka, and Izuku looked at him with a sigh.

"I really am great! Right?!" He cheered himself on as Tsubaki could only shake her head at this point. "See that teach?! I did teach you a lesson!"

"I really hate it when he gets like this. His skills going to his head just to inflate his ego."

"I can only imagine how fast Tsubaki could've become a Death Scythe if he just put some more effort into collecting souls." Maka shook her head before turning to Izuku. "Thanks for that by the way. I suppose you saw that we'd end up like that too." She chuckled nervously as she gestured to Sid, who was now being slapped by Soul.

".............." Izuku said nothing as he 'looked' at her with a more pleasant aura. Simply opting to give her a curt nod in response, making her a little nervous but she accepted it.

"Enough of this! Why are you like this?! Sid, tell us what we want to know!" Soul yelled out before hitting Sid again.

"Franken Stein." Was all Sid said as he laughed at his students antics, not really caring for how he was being hit. "You'll find his place on the other side of Death City. I'm sure he'd love to chat with you all."
