Chapter 6
"Good morning," Rey said as Ben emerged from the dressing room.
He nodded sleepily. "How did you sleep?"
"Great, I've never slept in a bed before. I really should have slept in the dressing room, I don't want to get too used to being comfortable or I won't be able to sleep when I get home."
Ben looked at her, feeling guilty for complaining. He'd never had to sleep on the floor until last night, but her life was the mirror opposite. She'd slept on the floor every night until last night. "Promise me you'll buy yourself a bed with what I'm paying you," he said rubbing his sore back. "You shouldn't have to sleep like that." He gestured to the dressing room.
Rey shook her head. "Only after I've got everything I need to take care of Temiri."
"You're really selfless you know. I think Temiri's better off with you than he would have been with your parents."
"I don't know," Rey began. At least they kept a roof over his head, even if it was a small one room house with no bed.
"I do, they were selfish to leave both of you and I know you would take care of him not matter what it took."
Rey nodded.

Later that day, Luke suggested that they all go iceskating.
Ben and Rey were both a little wobbly, but Temiri seemed to be catching on quickly.
"Skate with me, mum!" he exclaimed, pulling Rey onto the ice.
Ben couldn't help but smile as he watched them skating together.
After a few moments, Luke came over to Temiri.
"Temiri, I think your father needs a little help," he pointed to Ben who attempted for the third time to step out onto the ice.
"Okay," Temiri said and he skated over to Ben. "Uncle Luke told me to help you."
"That's okay, I think I'll just watch," Ben answered.
"Come on its easy," Temiri said, pulling him onto the ice. He wrapped his arms around Ben's waist to keep him steady. "Just keep your ankles nice and straight."
Ben looked down at his ankles which were wobbling badly. He straightened them out as best as he could.
"Now we skate," said Temiri. They skated forward slowly. "You're doing it!" Temiri exclaimed.
Ben smiled. "I guess I am."
Temiri let go of his waist and held his hands out to Ben. "Now skate to me."
Ben looked at the long distance between them doubtfully.
"Come on, you can do it!" Temiri encouraged him. "I'll catch you."
Ben smiled at him. "Promise?"
"Cross my heart," Temiri answered.
Ben glided towards him. Temiri caught him just before he could fall.
"You did it!" Temiri cheered.
Ben knelt down to his level. "I did! Thanks to you!"
Rey smiled as she watched them together. Ben was so patient and gentle with Temiri, not at all like how she remembered her father being. Her father had always been a cold and harsh man.
Ben looked up to see her smiling at him. He couldn't help but smile back.
Rey came over to him. She offered her hand to him. "Will you skate with me, Ben?" she asked shyly.
He nodded, taking her hand. They skated across the ice together, both of them struggling to keep their balance. They were both leaning on each other to keep from falling.
"You're a good mother to him," Ben said when they were out of Luke's earshot. "He's a good kid."
Rey nodded. "He's the best."
Ben smiled at how much she seemed to care about him.
"I might be a good mother, but I don't know anything about being a good wife. I've never been in a relationship before," she said.
"Me either, but I think that you're a wonderful wife...or well you will be... when you find the right person I mean," he stammered nervously.
She giggled slightly at his stumble. "I think you're a good husband too, or at least you will be if you can ever find a woman who will be charmed by your awkward and clumsy flirting."
Ben couldn't help but laugh too. "And are you charmed, Mrs. Solo?"
She smiled shyly. "Maybe just a little."
"Then I'll have to try harder," he replied. "How is this?" He leaned down and brushed his nose against hers.
She giggled, and tried to pull away from him, which almost caused her to fall. He caught her and they both started laughing and struggling to keep their balance. It wasn't long before they both fell onto the ice. Rey landed on top of him and he looked up her in a way that no one else ever had.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
She nodded. "I had a soft landing. What about you?"
"I've never been better," he said, combing her hair out of her face.
She blushed, then stood and helped him back up to his feet.
