Summer of Seventh Year
"So, Teddy, what are you planning on doing with your life?"
"I... Don't know." Teddy answered Hermoine's question truthfully. In seven years, he had never thought of his future. He always dismissed any thought of the future with the idea that he had time. Even though he didn't have time anymore, he was already finished with school, he never started down any paths.
"I guess I'm just seeing where life takes me," Teddy answers with a mouth full of chicken. Hermoine shakes her head at him across the table.
"You remind me of Ron sometimes. And how about you Nicole? And plans?"
"Oh, yes. I'm planning on being a healer. Most people would have to start with an internship at St. Mungo's, but I was an intern for Madame Pomfrey for a couple years. I should be able to jump right in as a nurse next year. There is an age limit, so I can't start until next year. However, I am going to spend the year studying. Possibly more with Madame Pomfrey." Hermoine looks at Harry, her eyes wide.
"Well, you sound very prepared. I'm sure you'll do great."
"Sounds like you, Hermoine," Harry mumbles at her. "Ow!" Hermoine kicks him under the table.
"You really can't think of anything you even want to do?" Draco asks. Teddy looks up and shakes his head.
"I guess..." Teddy racks his brain for a moment. "No, no not really. Do you have any ideas?"
"Well there are definitely some things you can rule out," Harry says.
"Harry!" Hermoine scowls at Harry.
"What? You tell him! There are some things you have to start early on." Hermoine just shakes her head.
"I guess... I..." Teddy shakes his head. "No, no I can't think of anything at all. Sorry."
"What are you apologizing for, Teddy?" Hermoine answers, "You shouldn't be ashamed of who you are. You're just someone who lives in the present, and that's not a bad thing. You know, a lot of people try and be like you. It's not always great to constantly worry about the future." Hermoine winks at Teddy.
The conversation continues, but Teddy is silent. His mind wanders to dreams he had through his years at school, and he only had one besides being with his parents again.
"Harry, can I become an animangus?" Everyone goes silent and suddenly look to him. Harry looks at Draco, then Hermoine, then Teddy.
"Um... Of course you have my permission, you don't even need to ask for it, but there is a lot of work that goes into it. Are you sure it's something you want?"
"Yes, yes, completely. I've been dreaming about it for years."
"Than I'm sure you'll be able to," Harry replies.
