Chapter one
~15 year old y/n POV~
"Jay!!! Come on!! This isn't funny anymore!!"
I've been looking for my older brother for ages now. We always come to play in the forest behind our house. We've done it all our lives but he's slowly losing interest and only came out with me today because our mom forced him to come out since he'll be going off to college once the summer is over. He's probably ditched me again and left me in the woods and ran home. I'll have to get him back later somehow if that's the case.
"I swear to god jay, if you've gone home I'm gonna take away your Xbox and you'll never see it again!!"
It was the best thing I could think of to say at this present moment. His xbox is his pride and joy and let's no one but himself ever touch the actual console, he treats that thing like a god.
I sighed in defeat when I didn't get a response so I'll think I'll just have to make my way home then.
"Fine!! I'm going home!"
I only shouted just on the off chance he was still hear hiding but that seems very slim right now.
I huffed and started walking through the wooded trees and bushes. It's very green here but I'm not complaining I actually find it very peaceful, it's like a second home. I like to come here and think about stuff especially the negative things in my life, I've always found it calming in a sense. Just listening to the birds sing away and the rustle of the leaves blowing in the wind on a windy day. I like it and I've always liked it here.
To get home I have to walk over a bridge with a very small river underneath. It's barely there but just enough water to called it a river.
When I come to this bridge I always like to stop and watch the little bit of water that the river has left, flow and sparkle from sun light reflecting off the surface. It just shows how much I love nature and love this woods behind my house. I could live here if I could.
I leaned over the edge of the bridge just to flow a leaf I had my eyes on floating in the water. It was very beautiful, I loved the colour green on it with mixed yellow and orange to blend and sharp pointed corners. I followed it with my eyes until it flowed under the bridge but me being me I wasn't ready to look away yet if I could lean over a bit more to watch it for longer. Stupid I know and my actions just proved how stupid I was.
My foot that I had planted firmly on the ground to hold me steady wasn't enough and when I seen something big and blue with rough looking skin. I gasped out of fright and instead of leaning back away from it the steady foot I thought I had lifted off the ground causing me to fall over the edge of the bridge.
Falling for my life, screaming what air I would have left in my lungs for now until I hit that little river below.
But.
Just when I thought I finally reached my destination to the small river below I fell into something warm yet hard to the touch. I sealed my eyes shut not wanting to find out what this was and whatever it was it was clearly breathing and it's breath was hot as it hit the skin on my arms. The breath may be hot but goosebumps rose on my skin out of fear to what this was.
It started to move with me on top of it but it moved very slowly until I was picked up by something warm again but it felt smooth but I really panicked on the inside when I felt something sharp to the touch around my torso. I couldn't look yet, I can't look.
When I was gently placed down on the ground, not wet so that makes me assume it was to the side of the lake. Whatever it was must of sat down judging my the loud thump from the ground below and a little splash from the water. It's hot breath was still very close and was hitting my face, so it was right in from of me.
I only sat there, refusing to move, refusing to look, hell even to breathe. I didn't know what this thing was and I don't think it was going anywhere any time soon and I needed to get home so the only thing I could do was to open my eyes and look at it.
I took deep breath in and exhaled slowly to then slowly open my eyes. The first thing I looked at was the rocky ground beneath me then some rock boulders and the edge of the river. The more I dragged my sights up the way the more frozen I became at what I had seen. They can't be real, they're only fairy tales. I must be losing my mind at this point. There it was, huge, scaly and rough to the touch with dark eyes that were frightening to just look at as its eyes stared down at me.
A dragon.
A purple dragon.
It may have a dangerous look to it but the way it looked at me made me feel like I shouldn't be scared. If it wanted me dead it could of just left me to fall instead of saving from the fall.
Holding eye contact with the dragon I slowly stood up from my spot, dusting off my palms on my sides. The dragon didn't move but only tilts it head to the side when I take one slow step forward. It still doesn't move, in fact if anything it surprised me more when he leaned its head over closer but I flinched when it moved too fast and it widen its small eyes to stop.
It only moved again when I plucked up the courage to take another two steps towards it. The dragon lowered its head again but this time much more slower until it's nose was level with my face. It sat there staring at me with his hot breath hitting my body.
Slowly again I reached out for the dragon and again I expected it to move away but it didn't. It carefully watched my hand move closer until I finally gently placed my hand on top of its nose. It leaned in more to my touch which told me it was okay and I started to stoke it like it was a pet animal or something. It enjoyed it anyway and made a loud rumble sound from the throat and closing its eyes.
I smiled at its peaceful body language and it relaxed under my touch but loud splashes from under the bridge made me gasp in fright and retreat my hand. The dragons eyes whipped open and we both looked down at the direction of the bridge.
It was another dragon, standing there with its head tilted and it's eyes moving back and forth myself and the purple dragon. This dragon was blue and it matched the same blue that caught my eye before I fell.
It just sat there, watching us. It didn't have me any dangerous vibes just like the purple one. But there was a sense of innocence about this one but I couldn't help but giggle when i noticed the wiggle of one of its eyes.
Though both dragons seemed shocked that I did this as the purple shook its head in shock while the blue one froze with wide eyes.
Suddenly after my giggle another head popped from around the corner of the bridge. It was a green dragon.
I swore it looked like it was smiling by the shape of the mouth curled up at the corners.
I smiled at it and waved though it didn't seem scared like the other two. It actually surprised me the way it leaped over using its large wings in mid air to land on top of the purple one.
They squirmed together causing the earth to move slightly underneath them as what I think was playing since none of them seemed angry and the blue one,
however very slowly came to sit by my side. I could see in the corner of my eye it wasn't watching them but me. Maybe unsure if I was scared or if I was going to try and harm them in some way. I mean how can me, a 15 year old girl possibly do anything to hurt these huge dragons that could kill me any time they wanted and that shocked me the most.
I may be watching the purple and green dragon playfully fight but I can't help but think at the same time maybe I'm just imagining it all. It could all be in my head and I'm that lonely I need to make up mythical creatures for company.
Without looking to the side I slowly reached out a hand to the blue dragons side. He didn't flinch away from me so I eventually got to touch his rough scaly side.
Again I petted him just like the purple one, watching the dragons fight contently. It was going so well until there was a loud ear drumming roar from above with the leaves on the ground starting to flying around myself. The two playing dragons stopped and jumped off one another to stand tensely, staring up into the sky.
It looked angry and ready to kill me at any wrong move I made so that's what I did. I didn't move, stood completely still and frozen like a statue.
The blue dragon shifted next to me while the purple dragon stomped its feet, glaring at the red dragon that now touched the earths ground. However the green dragon just simply stared at the red dragon innocently just like the blue one did not that long ago.
They must of been communicating somehow since they would huff and puff, with many head gestures and stomping feet. While I just sat there unsure as to what I should do.
Soon another two dragons popped out the bushes. They tumbled through the trees, breathing heavily like they had been running for miles.
The pink one quickly gathered itself from the ground after stumbling to then sit up right and proudly show of it's beautiful shiny pink colour. That dragon was absolutely beautiful.
However the other one, the yellow one was brave enough to come walking over to my frozen form and sniff the top of my hair.
I lowered my gaze to the ground and finally let my hand fall from the blue dragon. I didn't know what to do but stand. The yellow dragon gruffed and turned around to face the red dragon that only seems to shake its head.
Now it was the three dragons grunting at each other while the other three just sat there doing absolutely nothing about it.
But just from behind the red dragon I noticed a pair of glowing orange eyes emerging from the bushes behind. Stalking very slowly out until it was fully in view.
It's eyes were fully concentrated on mine even with making its way to sit next to the red dragon and only pulled away from my gaze when it let out a screeching roar and every dragon stopped talking and only for me to drop to my knees with a bursted ear drum from the sound.
In result of that the blue dragon stood over my crunched up form on the ground, sitting on my knees.
He roared back at the black dragon and the dragon looked enraged and took a step towards the blue but only to be stopped by the purple and yellow one. Even the green and pink one made small movements towards the black dragon however the red one didn't seem fazed.
They started roaring at each other until the black one spit a small fire ball at a near by tree, glanced at me and then flew off. The red dragon shook its head while the pink dragon stomped all over the tree that was now on fire to then huff out some smoke through its nose and fly off after giving me one last look.
I just stayed in my place under the blue dragon, unsure what to do next until the red dragon grumbled and grunted with a shake of the head. He finally looked at me for the first time and it was sadness in his eyes, like an apology of some sorts. I don't know why because it seemed like it didn't like me anyway before the black dragon came along.
It looked at the blue dragon and nodded then just sat on its butt and wrapped it's tail around it's body while the blue dragon shifted its body off me so I could finally sit up straight.
The yellow dragon spun around in mid air and blinked at me a few times to lie down in front of me just as the others sat down around me too.
They just stared and I was unsure what to do. It was silent so I awkwardly threw a rock in the water.
"So, Erm. This is so weird. My name is y/n."
I looked up at all of them and then seemed to only nod at what I said.
"How can all of you be real? I thought dragons were just stories."
The red and green dragon shook their heads. Well obviously they're not just stories they're right here. In front of me and I'm talking to them.
"Well I live in a house just over the bridge. You could say the woods is like my massive garden."
I chuckled and the purple dragon laid down on its stomach and shuffled more closer.
"I just wish I knew what all of you were saying. That would be so cool!"
The blue dragon tilted its head while the yellow dragon sprung its head up from the floor to look back at the red dragon that was squinting its eyes at the yellow dragon.
But then looked down in defeat but then the red dragon simply huffed and stood up and took two steps towards me.
I didn't dare move again and none of the other dragons protested to what it was doing. It stopped in front of me and leaned its head down to be level with mine and pressed its head to my upper body and close its eyes and for some reason I couldn't help but do the same.
There was a rush of heat travelling from my stomach and making its way to my head. It hurt, like really hurt to a point I had tears down my cheeks. I don't know what happened but my whole body felt on fire. It was too much, I couldn't handle it and eventually I passed out into my subconscious.
