| CHAPTER FIVE |
Once Zion had retrieved his sword from his chambers, they quickly made their way to the king's chambers. Zion was confident that's his father would have taken the secret passage to escape the siege. They made their way easily down the halls and into the king's chamber, which much like everywhere else had been trashed.
" Zion, we have a problem," Xiana said as he moved towards her voice. When he looked down to the ground just before their feet was a pool of blood.
" I'm sorry, Zion. But as of now, because we do not know who this blood belongs to. I must see you as my priority." Xiana said with a serious look on her face as she spoke to the prince.
" So you are going to give up on my father?" Zion asked angered and shocked at her.
" No, I have not given up on him. But right now, you are the last of his bloodline. That means you are the next target and I'll be damned if they lay a finger on you." Xiana said and rushed over to the wall with three candles sticking out from it.
" You will not leave my father! He is your King!" Zion half yelled as to not draw attention to them.
"As of now, you are my King. And if you die, who knows who will sit upon that throne." Xiana growled at him, "But I can guarantee that they will never be half as kind and care for the people as your father or you."She stopped for a moment to calm herself down. " I cannot stop you. But I will follow you. But I urge you to think of your people. You must survive this for them." There was a long pause between them as Zion stood almost at war with himself.
" Very well. But I have not given up on my Father." The prince said as Xiana pulled one of the candles to open a door in the wall.
" Neither have I." She muttered to him before they left the room and into a dark hallway. The door closed behind them as they continued down the hallway with Xiana leading the way. It wasn't long before they found the gate that leads out from the secret passage and into the forest that surrounded the City of Mora.
" We will head east. If we wish to have our City and Kingdom back we will need help from our allies." Xiana said as they started to make their way through the dark nighttime forest.
" Would we not be better flying?" Zion asked.
"If we fly we will be caught. Nowhere in the Kingdom is safe now." Xiana said, "It would be easier if we could find a horse."
"Look!" Zion whispered loudly pointing in front of them. As if almost by chance, two soldiers from the siege were riding down a forest path not too far away from the pair.
Xiana smiled and reached down to her thigh, where daggers were strapped in a pouch. She pulled out two and snuck closer, keeping as quiet as she could. She then launched the daggers to zip through the air quickly towards the two soldiers.
"Bullseye." She muttered under her breath as both daggers landed on their targets, killing them instantly. The horses jumped and reared slightly before Xiana slipped down a small hill and grabbed their reins and calmed them down. Zion was not far behind her as he took a set of reins from her. The horse he had was her black with a white sock on its front left. Xiana had a grey horse with its nose slightly darker.
"Come on. We have a lot of distance to travel and very little time." Xiana told Zion as they both mounted their new horses quickly, before pushing them into a quick canter through the forest. They rode through the forest quietly, not speaking a word to each as the night sky slowly began to grow lighter. They did not want to believe that everything had truly just happened.
They quickly made it to the edge of the forest and in front of them. Was steep grass hill, which they slowed down to a trot for. Zion knew this hill very well, as he used to ride to the top with his mother and father to view the City and spend quality time together. It was as if the memories were replaying in his mind of the last day they spent as a family before illness took the Queen.
" Zion, we have to keep moving," Xiana said to him ask if him up from his trance he never even realised he was in. He looked back to see the City and castle below them.
" I promise, we will try everything to take it back," Xiana said to him and Zion nodded before turning around and pushing his horse into a walk. Xiana continued to look out at the City. She could only think about how she failed the King. She was charged with protecting the Kingdom and now that kingdom has fallen into the hands of an enemy.
" By my life or death, I will never stop trying," Xiana said before looking to the sky to watch a very small silhouette fly just above the clouds. She smiled knowing Yara was watching over them. With a side smirk and a new determination, Xiana pushed her horse into a canter. She will save the Kingdom and protect the Prince.
