Chapter Twenty Nine: Rey
After getting to shore, Lyanna had to deal with a lot of screaming people, frightened by Winter and the little dragon. Lyanna herself had very little time to process the knowledge of owning a dragon, but at least she wasn't afraid of it. The sight of her two great animals and her two great swords frightened many away from her and Alize until the city officials arrived at the scene.
"We are the thirteen of Qarth," one stepped foreward, looking Lyanna up and down, making her anxious about the fact she was still naked. "Now tell us, who are you and why are you here?"
"My name is Lya Snow," She had said, standing as tall as she could as she held the baby dragon I her hands whilst Winter shivered by her feet (how could people find a cowering wolf terrifying?) She planned on giving them a false name to keep herself safe in case any one was a spy for Joffrey, but Lyanna had a feeling this plan would fail. "I come to you from the West and I ask you for help,"
Part of Lyanna had assumed no one in the east would have heard of the Snow surname, but they had, when one of them spoke up, "Snow is a bastard name, why should we help a bastard?"
"I have a dire wolf, and a dragon," she began, getting cut off by the same man.
"So you mean to threaten us with your pets?" He said, a slight glare on his face.
"No, I didn't mean that-"
"Then what did you mean?"
"I meant... I only seek refuge in your city. I've fled from King's Landing with my sister, and our boat burnt down,"
"If you are a common bastard, why have you got a dragon?" Another spoke up, and she couldn't help but wonder why none of them seemed surprised at the sight of the small reptile beast in her arms.
She sighed. She would have to tell them the truth. "My name is Lyanna Stark. My father was Brandon Stark and my mother was Ayrella Targaryen. My uncle Eddard raised me, until I was forced into marriage with King Joffrey Baratheon. I've fled King's Landing from my husband. My boat caught fire, causing my dragon egg to hatch. I managed to escape with my hand maiden, wolf and dragon and I beg you, please help us, please," Lyanna fell to her knees to prove her desperation.
Ten of the men began to laugh at her. The one from before sniggered, before continuing to speak.
"If what you say is true, why would we keep you in Qarth, where your husband could come seeking you? Your presence here could put the greatest city in the East in danger,"
"I promise you, no damage will come to the... magnificent city of Qarth," Lyanna could hardly see Qarth from the poor light and being quite far from the main city, but she could already tell that it was nothing compared to Winterfell.
"We are not willing to take that risk, not again," He said. Again? "We thank you for coming to Qarth for help..."
"I had no choice! My boat burnt down! If I had a choice, I would have gone to Braavos or Myr, but I washed up here with no other option. In the West, no one has heard of Qarth! No one has heard of this magnificent city you are so determined to protect!"
"You condemn yourself with your words," he turned back around to face her, glaring again.
"Oh no, I condemn your city. Surely you'd wish to accept me now. I'm a westerner whose never heard of your city, surely you'd want me to gain an education on Qarth. Let me in and I will be so grateful maybe I will believe myself that your city is the greatest," Lyanna said hopelessly.
Sensing her rising anger, Winter stopped shivering and began growling, causing about ten of the thirteen to back away. One of them, a tall, muscular, dark skinned man stepped forward, looking at her openly. He turned to his colleague, who immediately began glaring at him.
"Xaro Xohan Daxos, you will not accept her into your palace, you vouched for the other as well," he glared.
"How can Qarth be the greatest city ever been if we do not help her? She is helpless, in a strange country, it is our responsibility to take her in,"
"Take her in then, vouch for her if you wish," the much shorter man glared up at Xaro. "If the Baratheon's want her back, Qarth's destruction will be on your hands,"
"The Baratheon's will not take me back, I am a human being, not an object," She spat out before she could stop herself, but it looked like her fate was sealed as twelve turned and walked back into the city, with only Xaro remaining. "Thank you, ser," He took hold of her arm and began to lead her inside as Alize and Winter followed, Alize holding her weapons.
He lead her into his keep, talking about Qarth, but Lyanna wasn't listening. She was exhausted and wanted to collapse. Her entire body was hurting from the little dragon clawing itself into her and, despite not being burnt, she felt freezing cold, not helped by the fact she was naked. She was left at the door of her temporary chambers with Alize, alone in this strange castle, in this strange country.
Xaro had been right. Lyanna felt so helpless as she collased on the large plush bed. The entire room was finer that the whole of the Red Keep, except none of it was comfortable. Everything in the room made her anxious, made her home sick, made her wish she had actually stayed in King's Landing. Lyanna wanted to be sick, but instead laid face down on the bed.
Instead of sleeping, when Lyanna felt steady enough, she sat on the veranda, watching the stars with Winter, the little dragon curled up on her lap. She had changed into a light silk nightgown which was too soft to the extent she wanted to wear rough furs and cottons. Looking down at the dragon she sighed.
"I loose my father and son, and the universe gives me a dragon in their place," she muttered, shaking her head. She'd have rather had her family than a dragon. "Stannis told me that egg was stone, and I didn't want a dragon, you know," As if it was responding, it woke up and looked up at her, giving a sharp shriek to her. "Whatever, I've got you now. How about a deal? I'll keep you alive, train you, feed you, in return for your protection. If the war lasts, when you get bigger, I'll take you to Robb and we can take the city with you,"
A dragon isn't a weapon, she knew that. The new dragon was almost comforting for her. She had been thinking how she was one of the only dragons left, and the universe gives her a dragon. Smiling down at it slightly, she thought how she had been holding the egg to her chest as it hatched. It had been the place where she held Brandon once, but now she had a dragon. It was her child now, and she would protect it better than she could have done to Brandon, even if a dragon was sufficient to protect themselves.
It needed a name. Winter had been named as a reference to the Stark words Winter is Coming and to remember what her father had told her that day, but this dragon, what could she name it? Thinking of the fire, she thought how everything had seemed so dark, the last candle of happiness in her life being blown out before boarding that ship, but the hatching of the egg had almost provided her with a new ray of light, giving her another life to look after. Suddenly, the name for this dragon seemed so clear.
"Rey,"

Hey guys!
So Lyanna's dragon is called Rey (it's totally not named after Rey from Star Wars either, haha, cough cough).
I hope you enjoyed this chapter, please, vote comment, give me some feedback and promote it around, as getting 6K on here before I turn 16 would be the best!
I'm going on holiday soon so this might be my last update for a while, but I'll see you soon!
