A Different Kind of Quirk
When Shoto's alarm went off, he slowly sat up and stretched. It had been about a month since they had moved into the dorms and he was finally starting to get used to it. Shoto got out of bed and made his way to the bathroom. That's when he realized today was going to be a bad day.
He looked in the mirror and saw that his left eye was twitching sporadically, and his eyelid was randomly opening and closing. He groaned. "Today? Really?"
When Shoto was a child, his mother poured boiling water onto his face. The water left a scar, but that wasn't the only thing it did. The intense heat had damaged the nerves in his eyelid. This meant that his eye would often twitch or blink without his consent. Shoto had learned to control this fairly well, so most days it didn't look like there was anything out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, on other days, the twitching was so bad, he had no hope of controlling it. Today was one of those days.
Shoto sighed again as he looked at himself in the mirror. Days like today were always a pain. He walked into his bedroom and pulled an item from the drawer of his nightstand. He then went back to the bathroom to put it on. Now when he looked in the mirror, all he saw was a white eyepatch staring back at him. His classmates would be curious, but hopefully, he could make up a good enough lie to keep them from asking too many questions. This would be better than them seeing his twitch. He didn't want them to think he was weak because of his other "quirk". Shoto brushed his teeth and finished getting ready for school. Today was going to be a long day...

"Hey Todoroki!" he turned around and saw Midoriya and Uraraka running up to him. "Where were you? We were waiting for you in the common room."
On most days, the three of them would walk to class together, and meet Ida who always arrived to class an hour early. Shoto really enjoyed walking with them, however, today he had hoped to avoid it. Looks like he was out of luck.
"My apologies." He said "I arrived in the common room and didn't see you, I thought you must have gone ahead. I guess was the one who was early. Sorry."
"Don't worry about it!" Midoriya smiled.
"Hey Todoroki, is your eye okay?" Uraraka asked pointing out his eye patch.
"It's nothing." He said a bit too quickly. "I injured it in training last night. Nothing major, just a scratch. It should be better by tomorrow."
"Okay." If they didn't believe his story, they didn't say anything about it. The three continued walking and met up with Ida who also questions his eye patch. This was going to be such a long day...

One by one, the students of class 1-A filed into the classroom. "Hey, guys!" Asui and Tokoyami walked over to them.
"Hey Tsu!" Uraraka greeted. "How are you?"
"I'm good." She replied. "I'm pretty tired though, I was up late reading. I just couldn't put the book down."
"I know the feeling," Ida said proudly. "Many a night I have stayed up much too late reading a thrilling chapter of my encyclopedias!"
They all just stared at him. "You read encyclopedias... for pleasure?" Tokoyami finally asked.
"Of course!" he said cheerfully. "I recently finished reading my dictionary, so I have started on my encyclopedias. I am currently on 'F'."
"That's uh... great Ida..." Midoriya said looking very confused.
Tokoyami looked over at Shoto. "Did you injure your eye Todoroki?"
He nodded. "In training last night. Nothing too bad though." The conversation continued as normal.

"Hey Todoroki, what happened to your eye?"
"Hi Yaoyorozu, I injured it during training."
"Yo Todoroki! What happened to your eye?"
"Good morning Kaminari, I hurt it during training last night."
"Man, what's up with that crazy eye patch, Todoroki? Did a girl scratch you?"
"No Mineta, that doesn't even make sense... I was hurt during training."
This continued as each student walked into the classroom. It was starting to really get on Shoto's nerves. He wore the eyepatch so that he wouldn't be noticed, but it looked like he was getting even more attention for it.
"Hey! Icy-Hot!" he looked up and saw Bakugo storming towards him. "What's up with that stupid eyepatch?!" he was about to answer but it seemed Bakugo wasn't finished. "If you're wearing cuz you think it'll make you cool, it won't. You look like an idiot!"
"Ka-chan be nice!" Midoriya scolded. "Todoroki got injured during training yesterday."
Bakugo glared at him, "Is that what you've been telling everyone? I sure didn't see you get injured yesterday during class."
"I was training on my own last night," Shoto answered.
"Really..." he glared at him more. "And what could you have been doing training that could have injured yourself." Shoto looked around and saw that the others seemed to be agreeing with Bakugo. "Look, I don't care why you are lying, I just want these idiots to know that you aren't being honest."
"Todoroki..." He looked over at Midoria. "Did you get injured during training?"
Shoto sighed, "No."
"What happened?" Uraraka asked.
He shook his head. "I can't tell you..."
"Can't tell us? Or won't tell us?" Kirishima asked. Shoto stayed silent. This answered the question.

Once class started, Shoto tried to focus on Present Mic's English lesson. Unfortunately, this was a little hard between his eye constantly blinking under his eye patch, and everyone in the class turned around to stare at him. When the bell rang for lunch, he was the first one out the door.
Most days, he would eat with Midoria, Uraraka, Ida, and Tsu. But he wasn't in the mood today. Even cold Soba couldn't brighten his mood right now. Instead, he went to the bathroom.
He looked at himself in the mirror, and slowly peeled the eyepatch from his face. He sighed as his eye continued twitching. "Why can't I just be normal?"
"Cuz you're a freak Half and Half." Shoto quickly put his eyepatch back on and turned around. Bakugo was glaring at him. "What are you hiding?"
"That's none of your business." He said firmly.
Bakugo looked like he was about to explode, literally. "I'll figure out what you are up to. That's a promise." He then stormed out of the room and Shoto sighed in relief.

Soon, the bell rang again signaling the end of lunch. Shoto made his way back to class. As soon as he walked in the room, all eyes were on him again. He tried his best to ignore them as he walked to his desk.
"Alright, class." Mr. Aizawa walked into the room. "Let's get started..."
Mr. Aizawa was teaching about the correct way to save someone from a burning building. Suddenly, the was a knock at the door and it slid open. "Hey Class A!" Present Mic walked in grinning. Sorry to interrupt your totally tubular learning experience, but I need to borrow your teacher for just a second. Don't worry, I'll bring him back in one peace."
Mr. Aizawa looked like he wanted to murder his blonde-haired friend, but he followed him anyway. "I'll be right back. Don't be idiots while I'm gone."
Once he was gone, everyone started talking amongst themselves. A few people even stood up to stretch their legs. Shoto wasn't paying them any attention and was doodling in his notebook. However, he suddenly heard a snipping noise coming from behind him. As he looked down at his desk, he watched his eye patch fall onto his book.
Shoto quickly turned around to see Bakugo holding a pair of scissors. He quickly put a hand over his eye. "What did you do that for?!"
Bakugo glared at him, "I'm tired of your stupid lies. I told you I would find out, didn't I?"
"Ka-chan that was really mean." Midoriya looked over at him, "Are you alright Todoroki?"
"Shut up Deku!" he looked back at Shoto. "Now move your hand Icy-Hot or I'm going to blow up your desk!" Shoto sighed, and removed his hand, he really didn't have any other choice. "Hey! Quit winking at me!"
Shoto rolled his eyes. "I can't help it." They all looked at him confused. "When I was burned... my eye was damaged. It twitches constantly. Normally it's not very much, so I am able to control it. However, some days I can't stop it. It just blinks on its own. Today is one of those days."
"So that's why you were wearing the eyepatch?" Jiro asked.
He nodded, "I didn't want you all to notice."
"Why didn't you just tell us your eye twitched?" Ashido asked.
He looked down, "I was afraid that you all would see this as a weakness. I didn't want you to think I wasn't on your level anymore..."
"Todoroki..." he looked over at Midoria. "We would never think that of you. You're just about the strongest guy in our class." Bakugo could be heard yelling but Kirishima quickly shut him up. "You're our friend, we aren't going to think your weak just because your eye twitches."
"Deku's right." Uraraka smiled at him. "You're super strong Todoroki!"
Everyone started complimenting him and he started blushing. He looked away, "Thank you, everyone... it means a lot to hear you say that..."
"Here," he looked up at Yaoyorozu. "I made this for you." She handed him a new eye patch.
He took it from her hand and put it on. "Thank you..."
Mr. Aizawa soon returned, and class resumed. Shoto smiled to himself. He had really great friends.
The End.
