Chapter 3

I had stopped at about three more places in South Carolina before moving on from that state completely. By then, the police from each place made a connection with the kills. Good. Maybe they'll make a connection that these dead people were not good people next. Anyway, I had moved on from South Carolina, and was now in Durham, North Carolina, just to get something to eat.

I didn't even know how to pronounce the name of the cafe I was at. It was named "Guglhupf Cafe" or something like that. All I knew was it was a German name, and that this place was supposed to be pretty good. I was just waiting for some french toast and a cup of Vietnamese iced coffee, because it sounded good, when I overheard some people at a table talking.

"Did you hear those screams coming from Harris's house?" one of the guys asked.

"Yeah. That's the third time this week. I think it's coming from his kid, but that's none of my business," one of the women at the table answered.

"Why not call the cops? If you think something's going on, why not have someone investigate?" The other guy said.

"Like I said, it's not my business. He probably has a reason. The kid probably snuck out of the house or something." The woman who had answered before took a sip of her coffee.

"I don't know," the last member of the little group chimed in. She looked a little concerned. "I saw Harris at the bar a couple days ago. I think he might be getting drunk."

"Are you implying that he's hitting his kid because he's intoxicated, Carla?" the first guy said.

"It's just a thought, Jeremy," Carla responded, rolling her eyes. "A possibility. That's all."

"Never before has there been any reports of violence in the Dunlap house. I highly doubt it would start because Harris decided to have a few drinks," the other guy defended.

"Thank you, Lukas," the first guy, Jeremy, said, clapping his friend on the back.

"Come on guys. You have to admit he hasn't been the same since his son died," Carla tried.

"Give it a break, would you?" Jeremy said, annoyed.

"Actually... I think she may have a point there," the one whose name hadn't been said yet agreed.

"Oh come on, Lisa, not you too."

"Hey, I'm just saying that I heard he blames his family for his son's death. Now, I don't want to get too involved in all of this, but maybe he's starting to take out his emotions on his family."

"Whatever. I'm telling you, Harris would never do that. End of discussion."

"You're the one who brought it up," Lisa mumbled.

"I said that's all. Drop it."

"Fine. Did you see that new movie?"

I stopped listening around that point. I had the full name of my next target, and that's all that mattered. I repeated the name in my head over and over again. Harris Dunlap... Those idiots at the table gave the whole name. And that was all I needed to figure out where this person lives.

I was pulled away from my thoughts with a "Sir, your order's ready. That'll be $11.20, please." I nodded with a smile and pulled out my wallet, handing her the money. She gave me my bag and drink and I left the cafe, getting in my car. I pulled my laptop out of my bag and did a quick search of the name and town. It only took a moment before I found the address. With this information, I put the key in ignition, driving to that street and finding the correct house. I waited for a moment before getting out of the car and walking over to the house, knocking on the door.

A young girl answered the door, and, sure enough, she had a huge bruise on her cheek. I'd be willing to bet that there were more that were covered by the clothes. "Can I help you?" the girl asked.

"Uh, yeah. I was wondering if you could give me directions to the nearest gas station. I'm passing through town, and I'm low on gas. I'm afraid I don't know my way around."

"Yeah, okay. There's a Shell nearby. Drive straight that way for about two blocks, then turn left and go down the street, then turn on to North Roxboro. Can't miss it."

"Thanks. Hey, if you don't mind me asking, what happened to your cheek?" I tilted my head curiously.

"Oh, um... I fell and hit a table by accident. No big deal."

"Okay. Well, thanks again."

"No problem. Have a nice day." She smiled softly at me.

"You too." I smiled back. She closed the door and I walked back to the car. Yeah, no way she fell. I've had to cover up marks like that countless times. Plus, it was such a poor excuse, that anyone who actually cared could tell she was lying. So deciding for sure that this was definitely going to be my next target, I waited for night to fall, finding two more targets in the process. It was gonna be a busy night, but I was ready.

(TIME SKIP)

I pulled up to the street that the Dunlap house was located. I had already taken care of the other two. This was my last stop. Parking the car, and turning it off, I got out and carefully did a quick perimeter check. I found a security system, but it didn't take long to disable it. I then picked the lock of the back door after failing to find any other points of entry. With a click, the door swung inwards, and I entered the house, grabbing one of the knives from the drawer and silently began to search the house. It didn't take long before I found the master bedroom. I looked over the sleeping man. He looked so peaceful. I scowled. He didn't deserve peace. He didn't deserve happiness. He deserved to burn.

I wanted him to know that he was going to die for what he did. So I clamped my hand over his mouth. His eyes flew wide and he looked at me with big, scared, brown eyes. I glared down at him, no mercy in my eyes as I showed him the knife. His eyes grew wider than before, if that was even possible. A wicked grin spread across my face as his fear rose. I brought the blade of the knife to his throat, almost giddy as I heard his muffled pleas asking for mercy. I let out a low chuckle. "You really want mercy after what you did to your child? Burn in Hell." And with that, I slid the blade across his throat, watching the blood seep out as Harris gagged, desperately trying to get oxygen into his lungs. I just smiled as he went still, and I carved the single word before searching the room. Four hundred dollars was what I managed to scrape up. I left two hundred for the kid and took the rest, knowing I needed to get money somehow, and that I couldn't just get a job with all this traveling.

I stayed in town for a few more days before setting off again, half wondering where I'd stop next. I felt that I was doing a pretty good job in starting to rid the world of bad people. People who didn't deserve to live. And honestly, I was happy that I finally had a purpose. I was saving people by taking away the one doing the most harm to them. And as I left Durham, I couldn't help but smile, knowing that no matter what other people thought, I was bringing justice. I was doing what was right. Soon, America, maybe even the world, would know that I'm only making the world a better place by eliminating these people. No, not people. More like monsters. And people would know that I wasn't going to stop until the message got across, and the domestic violence would come to an end. But I knew I still had a long way to go.

~~
Hola, Mishamigos! I think you should know, I will take killing requests. This chapter's kill was for myself. I know the guy that John killed in this chapter, and he's not exactly a nice person. Not my father, but a friend's father. Anyway, if you want John to kill your mom, dad, or both, just give a location for John to visit. Names are optional, but not required.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter. if it starts to get too repetitive at any time, let me know please. You might be wondering where the heck Alex is. Don't worry. He's a main character, but he's not going to show up until later. Keep in mind that this is only the beginning, and we still have quite a ways to go with this story. So those of you here for the Lams, just bear with me and be patient. We'll get there. Okay, until next time! Adios Mishamigos!
