Chapter Five- Oreo Has a Fabulous Name!
"I can't believe I'm doing this."
We were standing in front of a larger tool shed. But Chris was hesitant to go in.
"Why...?" I asked.
"Because." He pointed at the building. "That has weapons. And I don't trust you surrounded by pointy objects."
"Pointy objects!?" I said giddily. "Let's go!"
I ran in. The building itself was made of steel, and had rows of shelves. Boxes of swords, knives, bows, even guns, were everywhere.
"Heaven." I smiled.
"Don't touch anything!" Chris ran in. "I'll get the pointy objects. You just see if they're good."
He picked up a big sword. He placed it on my hand, but the sword fell through, as if I was invisible. We both gasped as the sword fell on the floor with a clang.
"No." Chris stepped back.
"What...?" I picked up the sword. It was back to normal.
"Never seen one do that before." Chris murmured. I could barely hear him.
"I'm just special?" Anything that spooked Chris spooked me.
He hesitated, then shook his head quickly. "Never mind. Does it work?"
I tried swinging it around, but it was heavy. I ended up hitting a shelf, and it fell to the ground along with the boxes. It made a loud sound as everything collapsed.
Chris lifted his hands off of his ears. "No."
"I don't know..." I swung it again.
"No! Gods please put that away before you kill me."
I grinned, but put it away.
Chris smirked, then pulled out a shotgun. "Here ya go."
I barely caught it when he threw it, and tried to aim with it. I couldn't.
"No thanks. Too big for my type."
"Want this then?" He tossed me a pistol.
Aiming would be easier, but I didn't like it. I didn't like pistols or guns in the first place. So many lives were lost because of these.
"No." I put it away almost immediately.
"How about this." He said as he pulled out a bow.
I gripped it. I liked it, actually. But something felt... Off. I liked the long distance advantage, but it just didn't seem right. I set it down.
He gave me a knife in a leather sheath. "Only people with good aim and careful consideration can wield a knife. So I doubt it's good for you."
"Gee, thanks." I took the knife out. I started (surprisingly) twirling the 12 inch bronze dagger. It was cool, and light. I liked it. But it felt like it was just a piece of the puzzle; incomplete.
"This is actually the best."
He looked mildly surprised. "Okay then. Well, we call it Kommáti in Greek."
"Kommáti, kommáti..." I muttered, trying to remember the translation. I tried learning Greek, but all I can say easily is hi (Chaírette), bye (antío), and shut up (skáse). The last one came in handy a lot.
"It means piece." Chris smirked.
Puzzle piece. Of course.
"K, I got my weapon." I ignored his smirk. "Now what."
"I guess we finish the tour, and then you'll be out of my life."
"Just because you said that, Imma follow you around all day."
He groaned. "Let's just go."
-<+>-
"The last thing we need to see is the stables." Chris said as we walked up to a barn. It was very big and tall, mostly wood but outlined in bronze. It had double doors, and when we walked in, there was a strip of the roof where it was just open.
"So the pegasi can go fly wherever and whenever." Chris explained.
There were stables on each side, most having a winged horse in it. I saw a familiar one when we walked it.
"Oreo!" I ran over to the black and white horse.
Chris snickered. "Very original."
I pet his mane, ignoring Chris. "Don't listen to him. You have a fabulous name."
"Talking to horses." Chris sighed.
"Fa-Fa-Fabulous!" I sang.
"What?"
"It's a song that a youtuber made."
He frowned. "Youtuber?"
I gasped. "A person that creates videos on YouTube."
He stayed silent, but had a confused look. "I think I've heard of YouTube before. It's just a bunch of videos that people make just to feel better about themselves and show off."
I gasped again. "I watch YouTube all the time! And I assure you, I have learned plenty about video games and some life lessons."
"Wait woah woah woah." He put his hands up. "You use the Internet a lot?"
"Yeah."
He furrowed his eyebrows. "Weird. Demigods and technology don't mix. It's like sending up a flare to monsters to come and get them."
"Welp Al the cyclops was the first monster I have seen. So I'm just special."
"Special." He mumbled. He was staring at the ground deep in thought.
Then, his head shot up. "I gotta go. Good luck and all that stuff."
He started running towards the exit.
"Wait!" I yelled. "Where do I go?!"
"Head to the Hermes cabin!" He shouted back. And he was gone.
"I take it the Hermes cabin won't allow pets?" I asked Oreo. He whinnied softly.
"Yeah. I didn't think so."
-<+>-
Once I arrived at cabin 11, I was kind of nervous. These will be my roommates until I am claimed, so I have to have a good first impression.
I walked in, and almost tripped already. A pair of shoes were in front of the door, but I quickly stepped to the side. There were people hustling around, and no one noticed me. Most of those people had the same features, upturned eyebrows and mischievous smiles.
I was about to talk to someone, when I heard someone else.
"Oh, it's you."
The girl from the volleyball game, Lilly, was siting on a top bunk.
"It's me." I answered back.
She jumped down. "Did I get any grass stains on your shoes?"
I looked down. "No."
She smirked weirdly. "Okay. So you are undetermined. Well, if you think you're getting a real bed, you aren't. Those are reserved for legacies of Hermes."
"And you are a legacy?" I asked.
"Yes. My mom was a daughter of Demeter, and my dad was a son of Hermes."
"Oh. So what do I sleep on?"
"I'll go get you a sleeping bag." She walked away.
A few people were looking at me curiously, so I just stood in the corner and looked at the ground.
"Here."
A sleeping bag hit my face. I looked up and saw Lilly snickering. I ignored her and grabbed the bag. Just to make sure there wasn't anything in there, I unrolled it and started shaking it. Sure enough, some things came out. Worms.
"There's no fun in a prank if you don't fall for it." She narrowed her eyes a little. Normally I would glare back, but if I was sleeping in the same cabin as this girl, then I need to stay away from her dark side.
Just then, I heard a conch shell in the distance.
"Dinner." Lilly said.
Already? I didn't know it was that late. But I was pretty hungry.
"Newest in the back!" Lilly said as she made her way to the front.
I was actually okay with being in the back. I wasn't crushed between people, and I could fall behind whenever.
After everyone was lined up, we headed out. I could tell that we were heading towards the pavilion. The sky turned orange and pink and the light casted a beautiful outline of the clouds.
When we got to the pavilion, we went to a certain table and sat down. There was few room to spare, and I just sat on the edge to avoid people.
At a table that was elevated above the ground, Chiron and Mr. D were sitting. Well, Mr. D was sitting looking very bored while Chiron stood, looking anxious. Then, Chiron cleared his throat, which somehow hushed all the campers at once.
"Heroes. Today is a very special day."
Aw, it was special since I came!
"Today marks the day in which Dionysus has only 10 more years to serve as director of the camp."
Well then.
People cheered half heartedly. I wasn't sure if they were cheering because Mr. D was leaving (I was) or didn't cheer because they didn't care.
"Oh, and we have a new camper."
Oh boy.
"Philip McDonald."
Come on!
A red haired goofy looking kid stood up from across the table. He flashed a peace sign and sat down after people stopped clapping.
"And of course Katherine Moone." He said quickly.
I stood up and waved, but people just stared at me.
"What up with your freak eyes?" A kid from Chris's table asked. A few people snorted.
I was going to say something clever, but my conscious advised against it. Too bad I don't listen to it.
"I'm sorry that I'm just special. Just can't help it. Just like you can't help but have that sad haircut."
"Roast!" A curly haired kid from a table of strong looking people yelled. A few people laughed. I could hear Tristan laugh from his table, where he was all by himself.
"Okay okay that's enough. Ms. Moone I can't stop you from... "roasting" other campers, but I advise against it."
Oh so now he's my conscious. Perfect.
"Yes sir." I smiled sweetly and sat down. I wasn't sure how to fit in here, but maybe my jokes and big mouth could get me somewhere good.
After a few minutes of random talking, another shell was heard, but this time it was quieter. Then, people started emerging from all sides. They were mostly satyrs, dudes with goat legs and horns, and green-skinned girls that must've been nymphs. They brought plates of food such as barbecue, fruits, vegetables, and empty cups.
I got a chicken and some fruit, when an empty cup was placed in front of me. I didn't know what to do, but a nymph whispered to me. "Say what you want, and it magically appears. Non-alcoholic, obviously."
"Thank you." I whispered gratefully.
I stared at the cup and thought. "Sprite."
The cup filled itself with a clear fizzy liquid. I took a sip and thought it was perfect.
I was about to dig into my food, when I saw everyone grab their plates and get up. I followed.
As I was walking, I saw people throw a piece of food into a bathtub sized fire. some whispered something, others just stared at the sky.
"Toss the food in, and make a wish." Lilly said, which surprised me.
"Thanks." I said.
When it was my turn, I dumped in a piece of chicken, and smelled the smoke. It didn't smell awful or anything, in fact, it smelled pretty good.
Please tell me who you are. I prayed to my parent. This chicken shouldn't be killed and tossed into a fire for nothing.
Then, I went back and sat down.
"Anything else?" I asked Lilly.
"No." She replied while tossing a grape in the air and catching it in her mouth.
She seemed kind of bipolar, pranking and being rude to me one minute, and nice and peaceful the next.
I grabbed an apple and starting eating. This was going to be a weird- wait, how long was I staying? A few days, a week, forever?
This is going to be a weird however long I'm staying.
~<>~<>~ (I changed the design)
I couldn't really sleep that night. It was either the fact that Greek Mythology was real, the fact that I was a demigod, or that Lilly would probably draw on my face.
But as I stared at the ceiling, I realized something. I could be someone here. I'm already a boss at Greek stuffs, so maybe they will realize that I'm not a dumb girl.
Eventually, I fell asleep.
No, I wasn't asleep. I was in a cave. But I couldn't move. Or speak. The cave was completely empty, except for a rug. It had a green snake with a purple background, which was weird considering those were my two favorite colors.
Then, a green mist came out of the mouth of the 2D snake. It rose up in the air and coiled around me.
"I am so sorry. You shouldn't be born." A female voice echoed.
Well that's a nice way of putting it.
She chuckled. "I shouldn't have said it like that. But you couldn't be normal. This was the time to do it, I promise."
What is she talking about?
"I can't really say what I'm talking about." She said, as if reading my mind. "After all, it's my job to be mysterious and not give a straight answer."
Ahm, okay well as long as she does her job.
She laughed. "You have your... father's humor. Curse him. But I wish I could have watched you grow. A mother should be able to see her child turn into a young lady."
Wait, this mist was my mom?
Then, a golden wind blew through the cave. The green mist shuddered, as if it was alive.
"I must go. Apollo is upset."
I wanted to cry out wait! Who are you! But I couldn't speak.
"It's better that you don't know." She answered quickly. "Goodbye my child."
Then, the golden wind turned brighter and brighter until I sat upright in my sleeping bag.
I was steaming hot and covered in sweat. Which was gross.
Well, I didn't get to know my mother's name, but the chicken didn't get burned in vain.

Okay I'm sorry I haven't updated for a while. I had to do an update on another book ASAP. But from now on, I will update once a week. I don't know which day.
But what was her mom talking about?
And I would say, who is her mom? But I think you guys can guess, and if you can't, then don't spoil it for others.
But you guys can guess Lilly's parents.
Rock on, my little rebels.
