Chapter 2: Meeting Teams and Finding Hellgates
You had to call in a few favors, but you'd arranged for three colleagues of yours to join you for the job. These were fellow Devil Hunters and friends, who worked in Vale to keep the demon population as low as possible. You and your new team agreed to meet at a place called Junior's the next day, where you'd talk strategy for taking care of the devils. You didn't know much about this Junior's place, just that it was like, a nightclub or something like that. You sighed, shrugging.
The next day came quickly, and you arrived at Junior's. You were about to enter, when a bouncer stopped you.
"Hold it!" He ordered, "You ain't going in armed to the teeth like that!" He looked at your sword and guns. You sighed, then uppercutted him, knocking him out cold.
"I am now." You shrugged, going in.
You sat with your new team, who you recognized and knew by name, and all of them were around your age, 17. First was Grey Toase. Grey was a bald guy with red eyes and black eyebrows. He wore Spartan-Like armor and red fingerless gloves, and had blood red tattooes that lined his arms, torso, the back of his head, and slightly on his face. He looked angry, but then again, he always did. Second was Netta Baynet, a girl with shoulder-length black hair, blue eyes, and rectangular glasses. She wore tight black clothes, white gloves, and high heels *Though you could never figure out how she walks in those things, let alone fight demons in them*. Third and finally was Cole Grath. He was a guy with really short, shaved brown hair and blue eyes. He wore a yellow T-Shirt with black sleeves and a black collar, black jeans, and black tennis shoes. He also wore an orange one-strap bookbag slung over his shoulder.
"Hey guys." You greeted as you took a seat, "Netta, Grey, Cole, you're looking well..."
"Get to the point." Grey demanded. He'd always been a bit too serious in your opinion.
"Well," You began, "I need you three to join me for a team mission at Beacon Academy."
"Beacon?" Netta echoed, "Interesting..."
"What's in it for us?" Cole asked.
"The reward for this job is enough to buy several shops." You answered, "If you help me, we'll split the reward."
"It's definitely an interesting proposal..." Netta began, a finger on her chin, "I'm in. I'd probably go anyway, I've seen some pretty cute guys that go to Beacon..." Netta had always been a flirty girl, and that didn't ever seem to change.
"Hmph, whatever." Grey groaned, "I suppose I'll help you this time."
"I'm in." Cole agreed, "Demons are usually pretty easy to kill, so this seems like an easy job for good pay."
"Good." You nodded, "Now..."
"That's him!" The voice of the bouncer you'd knocked out interrupted as three of the nightclub's security guards advanced towards you.
"Getting into trouble as always, (Y/N)?" Netta asked with a giggle, "I've always liked that about you."
"You came in here with your weapons and attacked someone?" Cole asked, giving you a glare like you were an idiot.
"Give me a minute." You sighed, not moving as the guards approached. One of them put a hand on your shoulder, and you jumped out of your seat, doing a backflip and landing on his back. Several guards charged at you. One threw a punch, but you dodged, and countered by elbowing him in the face. As he fell, two others threw punches. Again, you dodged, then grabbed their heads and banged them together, knocking them out. As they fell, a couple guards pulled out guns and started firing at you. You pulled out Ebony and Ivory and shot their bullets out of the air. You kept shooting their bullets out of the air until they ran out of ammo. You then ran up and drop kicked one in the face. As he fell, you jump-kicked off his face, did a flip, then landed a downward kick to the top of the other guy's head, driving his face into the ground. You looked around, and saw the other guys were trying to fight someone else, and they were still getting the crap beat out of them. You saw the one knocking them out was a girl around your age, with long golden hair and purple eyes. She wore a brown jacket, a yellow shirt underneath, an orange scarf, a brown "Skirt", black shorts, and brown boots. You also noticed she wore black fingerless gloves and had golden gauntlets on her fists. She knocked the last guy out, then looked at you, still ready to fight. She threw a punch, and a blast shot from her gauntlet. You quickly pulled out your sword and deflected the blast.
"How come I never meet any nice girls?" You asked, sighing as you rested your blade on your shoulder. You and the girl charged at each other. You swung your sword, which she dodged, then she threw a punch. You dodged, sheathed your blade, pulled out your guns, and aimed at her. You fired, but she dodged. You continued trying to shoot her at point blank range, but she managed to dodge as she threw several counter punches. You dodged them, but she suddenly blasted you in the face. Your head jerked back, but then you grinned at her, holding her bullet in your teeth. You spat out the bullet as she readied her fists. She threw another punch, but you blocked with your sword.
"Having fun?" She asked as you guys continued to exchange blows, "I sure am!"
"Heheh, what's your name?" You asked as you somersaulted away from a kick she'd aimed at your face.
"I'm Yang." She answered as she blocked a sword swipe with her gauntlets, "You?"
"(Y/N)." You said casually as you landed a slash, which sent her back, but didn't seem to cut her. "Gotta say," You began, twirling your sword in your hand, "Not many people can push me this far." You rested your sword on your shoulder. Suddenly, a bunch of bullet shells popped out of Yang's gauntlets. She pulled out two ammo clips and tossed them into the air. She caught each clip in her gauntlets, reloading.
"I can push harder than that." She grinned. You readied your blade.
Suddenly, sirens sounded, alerting you that police were coming. You sighed, putting your sword back on your back.
"To be continued, love." You said, giving her a kind of two-fingered salute as you then ran and jumped out a window. Your team had already left and you ran off.
The next day, you and your team met up again at the entrance of Beacon. Now, your team each had their weapons ready. Grey's weapon was called Exiled Chaos, a pair of sickles attached to Grey's armor by chains, and the sickles could shoot dust blasts. Netta's weapon was called Blue Love, a set of four blue, double-barrel pistols. She held two in her hands and two were attached to her special high-heeled boots. Cole's weapon, simply called Amplify, seemed to be a large tuning fork with tesla coils on the prongs. Grey and Cole had their weapons sheathed on their back, like you did with your sword, as Netta holstered her pistols at her sides. The four of you walked in to be greeted by Professor Ozpin.
"Ah, welcome, new students." Ozpin smiled, "May I ask the names of your partners (Y/N)?"
"This is Grey, Netta, and Cole." You introduced Ozpin to your new team.
"Sup." Cole waved.
"Hia." Netta smiled.
"Hmph." Grey grunted.
"I see," Ozpin pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose, "Very well. During your stay, you will be referred to as team (T/N)."
"That's a cool name." Cole grinned, his arms crossed.
"Whatever." Grey sighed.
"Now," Ozpin began, "if you'll follow me, I'll lead you to your dorm room." The four of you nodded and followed Ozpin. He led you down the halls of Beacon, passing many students that had just gotten out of class. "You'll have to excuse all the students." Ozpin sighed, "The school day just ended. Now, since you arrived late into the school year, you'll have a bit of school work to catch up on."
"Sure thing." You said, not really paying any attention. Ozpin led you to the dorm room, where you and your team would have to live during your mission.
"Hey, Ozpin," Cole began, "You said that we'd be students so we don't get suspicious. I understand that, but what about after we take out the devils and go home? Won't it be suspicious when we suddenly leave?"
"By then, there won't be any more danger." Ozpin replied, "I'll take care of it. For now, the rest of the day is yours. I look forward to seeing you four at work." Ozpin then left, leaving you and your team to check out your new home. The room had four beds, and seemed to be awfully cramped.
"Ugh, this is like a freakin' broom closet!" Netta groaned.
"I will NOT sharpen my blades in such a small space!" Grey hissed.
"It's not that bad..." Cole began, "If we could just get rid of one or two of these bulbous beds, then there'd be plenty of room."
"But how're we gonna do that and still have four places to sleep, moron?!" Grey pointed out.
"I'm sure two of you could share one bed with me..." Netta said in a flirty joking manner.
"Hmm..." You pondered, stroking your chin. Then, you got an amazing idea as a devilish grin stretched across your face. You then took out your sword and slashed up one of the beds.
"Hey, what're you doing?!" Cole yelled. You then got to work. You seemed to be a (Coat color) blur as you turned the spare parts of the bed into a hammock in the right corner of the back of the room, with blankets and pillows over it.
"Hey, good idea!" Netta smiled, "I always liked hammocks!" Then, the other three got to work like you had, destroying their beds to turn them into what would be their new sleeping quarters. Before long, the four beds had been converted into four hammocks, one in each corner of the room. In the middle of the room lay the broken remains of wood and such that used to be the previous beds.
"This was a great idea!" Cole grinned, stretching as he rested in his Hammock, "Nice thinking, (Y/N)."
"It was nothing." You smirked, putting your blade into the ground next to your hammock.
"Whatever." Grey grunted.
"I really owe you one, (Y/N)~" Netta smiled, giving you a kiss on the cheek.
"Heheh, you guys never change..." You chuckled as your teammates all went to their hammocks.
"What do we do with the extra wood?" Cole asked, gesturing to the pile of wood in the middle of the room.
"I dunno," You shrugged, "I'll let you decide that. Use it, throw it away, I don't care."
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, followed by a voice from the other side.
"Hey!" A female voice called as she knocked again, "You guys are the new students right? We wanna meet you!"
"Looks like we've already got fans." Cole chuckled, "Why don't we let our leader take this one?"
"Oh ha ha." You fake laughed. You went up to answer the door. The one knocking actually wasn't one girl, but rather a team of four girls. The first one seemed to be the youngest, roughly around 15 years old, and the rest of the team looked closer to your age. The younger one had dark red hair and silver eyes, wore a black dress with red lace, black boots, dark red stockings, and a red hood. The second one had long white hair done in a ponytail and blue eyes, wore a white dress and white boots, and had a scar on her right eye. She looked the most like she didn't really wanna be here. The third was a girl with long black hair and yellow eyes. She wore a black bow in her hair, and black and white clothes. She looked like a ninja. The fourth and final girl, the one that had been shouting as the team knocked was... you couldn't believe it. "Wait," You began, "You're... Yang, right?" The other three looked shocked as you recognized the golden haired beauty that had picked a fight with you less than 24 hours ago. She looked surprised to see you.
"Hold up," She began, "YOU'RE the new guy here?!"
"Yang, you know this guy?" The girl with silver eyes asked.
"Well, kinda..." She answered.
"She picked a fight with me last night." You said simply. The three girls stared at Yang, who laughed it off nervously.
"Sorry about her..." The girl with a bow in her hair sighed.
"Oh, no need to say sorry." You smirked, "Life gets so boring sometimes. A good fight every now and then makes things more interesting."
"Heh, I know right?" Yang agreed with a smirk that matched yours. The white haired girl let out an exasperated sigh.
"Well, I'm Ruby." The girl with silver eyes introduced herself.
"I'm Weiss." said the girl with white hair.
"Blake." The black haired girl nodded.
"And you've already had the pleasure to meet me." Yang smiled.
"Together, we're team RWBY." Ruby added.
"Hmm, okay team RWBY," You began, "I'm (Y/N), and this is Cole, Grey, and Netta." As you said each of your teammates' names, you pointed to the one you were talking about, "We're team (T/N)." Netta waved at the girls, Cole nodded to them, and Grey crossed his arms, grunting.
"What's his problem?" Weiss asked, motioning at Grey.
"Trust me, it might sound rude, but you just need to understand his language," You began, "That was Grey's way of saying 'hello nice to meet you'."
"Huh..." Ruby shrugged.
"Anyway," Yang began, "Our dorm's just at the other end of the hall. Figured we'd give you new guys a sort of neighborly hello."
"Well," You shrugged, "Thanks for being so thoughtful, but we have-"
"Hold on, are those Hammocks?!" Yang interrupted, wide eyed as she noticed your new beds, "Why didn't we think of that?!"
"Are we even allowed to destroy the beds like that?" Weiss rose an eyebrow.
"Well," You decided to change the subject before Weiss got you into trouble, "It's been nice meeting all of you, but I have something to attend to." You then grabbed your sword, sheathed it on your back, and started walking out the door, passing team RWBY.
"What exactly is it you have to do?" Blake asked.
"School work." You lied.
"You just got here." Weiss argued, "I know you guys haven't received any work yet. And anyway, I doubt you need that sword for school work."
"Damn..." You swore under your breath, then looked at the team, "Alright, fine. I'm gonna take a stroll through the Emerald Forest."
"Alone?" Ruby asked, "There are some pretty dangerous Grimm out there."
"Heheh, I'm not concerned about that." You chuckled, glancing at the sword on your back, "It's like I said, a good fight makes life a little more interesting. I haven't been able to really cut into something for a while, so I'm gonna have to go kill something."
"Mind if I tag along?" Yang suddenly asked, "Now I'm in the mood for a fight too."
"Do whatever you want." You said with a welcoming grin, "Just don't expect to get payed."
"Alright," Yang began as she started to walk with you.
"Yang...!" Weiss began.
"I'll be back soon, don't worry." Yang grinned, still walking.
"Wait, we still have to...!" Weiss continued, but you didn't really catch what she was talking about. Something about studying or a test, or something like that. You and Yang just walked on.
"So, what brings you guys to Beacon so suddenly?" Yang asked as you two walked through the Emerald Forest.
"We're transfer students." You lied, "It's a long story."
"Huh..." Yang sighed. Suddenly, a large black Beowolf jumped out of nowhere, snarling at you and Yang.
"I got this." You smirked, running forward with your sword drawn. The Beowolf swiped its claw at you. You dodged, then chopped off its arm and threw your sword up into the air. You pulled out Ebony and Ivory and shot the Beowolf a few times. You then turned around as your sword came back down. You did a backflip, kicking the sword's hilt and sending the blade into the Beowolf's chest. You then pulled out your guns again and shot it over a dozen times. The Beowolf quickly died, evaporating into nothing as your sword fell to the ground. As you reclaimed your sword, a large Ursa tackled you. It got up to look at you, only to realize it missed you and you were already next to Yang, resting your sword on your shoulder. "Wanna take this one?" You asked her. She grinned as her golden bracelets turned into their gauntlet form. The Ursa ran forward at you two. Yang uppercutted the beast then kicked it in the chest, which sent it tumbling back. It snarled, running at her again. It swiped. She dodged, then punched it in the gut three times, each punch blasting it too. She then punch-blasted it in the face, leaving a hole through its head as it evaporated.
"You're good." You nodded as you twirled your sword and sheathed it on your back.
"You too." Yang grinned.
The two of you continued to walk through the forest, talking a bit along the way. You stopped however, when you came across a large pillar, about as wide as a house and twice as tall. It was covered with circular demon symbols and just getting near it gave both you and Yang an uneasy feeling.
"What is this thing?" Yang asked, taking a small step forward.
"Beats me." You lied, shrugging. Of course you knew what it was. Any Devil Hunter worth a crap knew what this was. It was a Hellgate, a door to the demonic realm. Through a Hellgate, demons and devils could pass through when it's opened. No wonder Beacon has a devil problem. You figured this must be the source of the disturbance, and that there were probably more scattered around somewhere in the Emerald forest. You decided that later that night, you'd return and find a way to destroy it. You'd then find and destroy the other gates, collect your money and go home. Easier than breathing!
A sudden screeching caught your attention. You and Yang looked overhead to see a giant black bird, a Nevermore, flying in circles around you.
"Flock off, feather face!" You shouted, pulling out your guns. The Nevermore screeched again, preparing to attack. Yang punched several blasts at the bird as you repeatedly shot at it. After a while, the blasts stopped shooting from Yang's gauntlets.
"Oh, what a time to run out of ammo...!" She groaned. You chuckled a bit. Ebony and Ivory NEVER ran out of ammo. You sighed, deciding that the shooting was going nowhere. You jumped up high, landing on the Hellgate.
"Hey Tweety!" You shouted tauntingly at the Nevermore, "I've seen more intimidating beasts at a pet store!" You holstered your guns as the Nevermore swooped down, beak wide open as it charged at you. "I hope you're hungry!" You yelled, pulling out your sword and jumping at the beast. It gulped you down in an instant and flew high up.
"NO!!!" Yang yelled as the beast screeched triumphantly. Suddenly, its roars of triumph turned into cries of agony as your sword poked out of its back. You carved your way out of the monster as it continued to scream in pain. You then chopped off one of its wings and stabbed its head several times. It spun out of control in the air, knocking you off as you dropped your sword. You fell a couple hundred feet down, landing flat on your back near Yang. Suddenly, your sword came down too, blade first as it went through your chest, impaling you. "(Y/N)!!!" Yang exclaimed as she ran up to you. You seemed to be dead. Then, your eyes snapped open, making her gasp. You planted your feet on the ground, and slowly began to rise as you pushed the blade deeper into your chest. It hurt like hell as your sword's hilt had to go all the way through your chest, but you eventually got up, your head hanging low. "(Y/N)...?" Yang breathed, taking a step back as you pulled your blood-coated sword out of the ground.
"I'm fine..." You groaned. Yang then noticed that there wasn't even a scratch on you anymore.
"What the heck was THAT?!" Yang yelled.
"It's, uh, my semblance." You lied, "My semblance lets me heal from most wounds, even fatal ones. Thing is, it costs me stamina." You were lying to her. The truth was, you hadn't discovered your semblance yet. Your healing factor, as well as your other inhuman abilities, were demonic powers that you inherited from your father. But you weren't gonna tell her that! Why would you?! She'd probably think you were a freak or something! You weren't gonna let anyone at Beacon know that you were part demon, and you didn't care what you had to say to keep that a secret.
"Well... good thing you have that..." Yang sighed, clearly exhausted from what she'd just witnessed.
"Yeah." You agreed, "Let's head back to Beacon."
"Okay." She agreed, nodding. You then went back to Beacon. You'd return to the Hellgate another time, to destroy it.
