Chapter 15
As the sun began to rise, painting the horizon with hues of orange and pink, you found yourself contemplating your next move. The revelations from your encounter with Cross weighed heavily on your mind. The idea of Blacklight being a cure rather than a virus, the plan to create more beings like Alex and yourself, and the potential loss of humanity. It was a lot to process, and you knew that you needed to make a choice.
With Lilith by your side, you stood on the rooftop, gazing out at the city below. The chaos and destruction caused by the infected were evident if Alex and Cross were to go on with their plan.
(Y/n): Lilith, we can't let this plan succeed.
You said, your voice filled with sadness but also a hint of determination.
(Y/n): We can't let innocent lives be sacrificed for the sake of evolution.
Lilith nodded, understanding the weight of your words.
Lilith: I'll stand by your side, master, no matter what you decide.
You took a deep breath, steeling yourself for the difficult task ahead.
(Y/n): We need to get to my mother, make sure she's safe. After that, we need to stop Alex before he proceeds with this genocidal plan.
Lilith squeezed your hand reassuringly.
Lilith: We will, master..
She reassured you. You nod and with that, you both take off back home.
Timeskip~
You arrive home and stand in front of the door. You feel the weight of what you're about to tell your mother dawn on you. You swallow hard and unlock the door. You enter with Lilith beside you and look around. You see your mother asleep at the table again and sigh. You go to wake her only to feel a hand on your chest as Alex walks out of the dark with his eyes locked on you and his face showing no emotion.
Alex: Your mother is sleeping. Let's chat outside.
You couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as Alex fully emerged from the darkness, his presence casting a shadow over the room. His cold gaze bore into you, and you could tell that he was not in the mood for a friendly conversation. With a quick glance at Lilith, you nodded, silently communicating that you needed her to stay close by.
Stepping outside with Alex, the cool morning air provided little relief from the tension that hung in the atmosphere. You squared your shoulders, determined to confront him head-on.
(Y/n): I saw Cross....Well, the Supreme Hunter....He told me everything. Is what he said true, Alex? Do you really plan to kill humanity?
Alex stares at you for a second before his lips curl into a cold smile, devoid of any warmth or compassion.
Alex: Kill is a strong word (Y/n). Put it this way-
He steps towards you causing you to step back.
Alex: There are two things I want. One, I want to make humanity better than it is now. Two, I want to make sure you understand the gravity of your choice to join us, (Y/n).
He says, his voice laced with a hint of disdain.
Alex: A new era- No....the next chapter in humanities evolution is just around the corner. Don't let sentimentality blind you to the greater purpose.
You clenched your fists, your resolve strengthening with each word.
(Y/n): Sentimentality? You call it sentimentality to care about innocent lives? To value the well-being of humanity? You've lost sight of what truly matters. Your plan is nothing more than a power-hungry scheme, and I won't let you destroy everything in the name of so-called evolution.
Alex's expression hardened, his eyes narrowing.
Alex: You're missing the point, (Y/n). The potential that lies within Blacklight. It can reshape the world, create a future where humans are no longer bound by their weaknesses.
You shook your head, refusing to be swayed by his words.
(Y/n): No, Alex. The thing inside us-
You bring up your hand as your biomass acts up.
(Y/n): This...'cure' as you call it is nothing but a virus. Nothing else. It's a dangerous experiment that puts lives at risk. You saw what it did! New York, Greene. You won't bring glory to the new world, only destruction!
Alex waves his hand in the air dismissvely.
Alex: Yes yes. New York had its flaws. However that's the best part. Think of the first breakout as a test run.
You stare at your uncle in disbelief.
(Y/n): Test run?! Jesus Christ, Alex those were people not Guinea pigs!
For a moment, silence hung in the air, the weight of your words settling between you. Alex's face contorted with anger, his fists clenching tightly to show his impatience.
Alex: Your so quick to defend them rather than your own flesh and blood.
Your heart stung at his words but nonetheless, you weren't about to let him go along with his plan.
(Y/n): I may be your family, but I won't let that cloud my judgment. I will fight for what is right, even if it means opposing you. And as for your 'Evolved'. They are not the solution; they will become a threat to everything we hold dear! I mean what if one of them turns out to be like you now but worse?!
Alex stares at you. The wind blows through your hair as Alex's hood nearly blows off. Only showing his face more clearly. He looks to the side and clenches his right hand into a fist before punching you in the chin which sends you flying into a building. He lunges after you at you.
Lilith: Master!
Lilith gives chase.
You quickly recover and dodge his attack, narrowly avoiding his strikes.
(Y/n): Uncle, stop!
Alex continued to unleash a barrage of punches and kicks, his movements fueled by anger and a desire to overpower you. You fought back, with reluctancy.
Lilith, sensing the danger you were in, stepped forward, ready to defend you. She intercepted one of Alex's punches, her strength matching his as they engaged in a fierce struggle.
(Y/n): Lilith! Get back!
Alex tosses Lilith aside and Sparta kicks you out of the building. You regain your balance and land on a rooftop.
You look to see Alex speeding towards you while curled up in a ball. Your hands turn into hammer fists as you slam him into the ground causing him to go through the building. If you weren't feeling the weight of your choices before, You definitely were now. You didn't want to fight your own family, but you couldn't let him continue down this destructive path. You had to stop him, for the sake of humanity and for Alex himself.
Suddenly you get pierced by claws and look to see the supreme hunter. Summoning all your strength, several tendrils shot out of you causing the supreme Hunter to let go and retract his claws. Your arm transforms into your new weapon. The Flailfist. You hit the supreme Hunter in the head causing it to chuckle as it appeared unfazed.
Undeterred, you continued to attack the Supreme Hunter relentlessly. Each strike with the Flailfist was met with the creature's resilience, but you refused to give up. You had hope that defeating the Supreme Hunter was crucial in order to reach Alex and put an end to his plans.
Summoning every ounce of resolve within you, you launched yourself at the Supreme Hunter, striking with all your might. The Flailfist connected with a resounding impact, sending the Supreme Hunter crashing to the ground.
However, the creature quickly recovered, its eyes glowing with renewed fury. It lunged at you once again, its claws slashing through the air. You barely managed to dodge, feeling the rush of air as its claws narrowly missed you.
Realizing that a direct confrontation might not be enough to defeat the Supreme Hunter, you devised a new strategy. You would use its own strengths against it. You lured the creature towards a nearby building, leading it into a narrow alleyway.
As the Supreme Hunter pursued, you quickly climbed up the building, finding a vantage point overlooking the alley. With a swift motion, you unleashed the Flailfist, swinging it, causing the spikes to dislodge from the biomass-generated weapon and sending the metal spikes spiraling towards the Supreme Hunter.
The spikes embedded themselves in the creature's flesh, causing it to roar in pain. Taking advantage of its momentary vulnerability, you swung from the building, landing a powerful blow on its exposed back. The impact sent the Supreme Hunter crashing to the ground, momentarily stunned.
Seizing the opportunity, you closed in, delivering a series of rapid strikes with your Hammerfists. Blow after blow landed, weakening the Supreme Hunter further. Its movements became sluggish, its attacks lacking the ferocity they once possessed.
You raise your fist to take him out for good but find yourself wrapped in tendrils than thrown through a wall.
Alex stands at the end of the alley with biomass around his hands.
Breathing heavily, you stood back up and looked at the Supreme hunter and Alex.
As you stood up, ready to face Alex and the Supreme Hunter once again, a you felt your biomass act up on your back again.
(Y/n): What the hell?
Suddenly, Lilith comes around the corner and spin kicks Alex into the wall opposite from you. With Lilith by your side, you locked eyes with her, silently communicating your readiness to fight alongside her.
Alex smirked as he sat on the rubble.
Lilith transforms into the smaller version of her Cerberus form and charged into the Supreme Hunter, momentarily stunning it.
You charge forward, your Hammerfists ready to strike. Alex, however, kip ups and locks his Hammerfists with yours.
Locked in a fierce struggle with Alex, you both exerted all your strength, each trying to overpower the other. The clash of Hammerfists echoed through the air.
Alex's eyes burned with an intensity that matched your own. Despite the pain, you refused to back down. You pushed forward. With a surge of adrenaline, you managed to overpower him, breaking his hold and delivering a powerful punch to his chest.
Alex staggered backward, momentarily stunned by the force of your strike.
With Lilith keeping the Supreme Hunter occupied, you turned your attention back to Alex. His face contorted with rage and frustration, he lunged at you once again. But this time, you were prepared. You anticipated his movements, swiftly dodging his lunge attack and kicking him in the stomach through the roof of the building.
You followed Alex through the hole in the roof. You plant your feet on the floor on which he laid. He stands up quickly then the both of you start to circle each other, the tension in the air palpable. You knew that this fight was far from over. You unequipped your Hammerfists in a hope he would close in.
In which he obliges with a growl as Alex charged at you, his fists swinging. You blocked and dodged his attacks, countering with your own strikes. Each blow landed with precision and force.
Suddenly your biomass surrounds your hands turning them into Claws. You rapidly swipe at Alex dealing deep cuts into his flesh. You then dig your right claw deep into his stomach then slam him into the ground.
Breathing heavily, you stood over him, your Claws still at the ready. But instead of delivering the finishing him, you hesitated. Despite everything, he was still family.
(Y/n): Alex... I don't want to fight you. But I can't let you continue down this path. There has to be another way.
Alex looked up at you, his eyes filled with a mix of anger and resignation.
Alex: You... you're too late. The piece are set and my play is already in motion. You can't stop what's coming.
You clenched your fists, refusing to accept defeat.
(Y/n): I won't give up, Alex. I'll find a way to stop this, to save both you and humanity. But I need you to help me. I need you to see reason!
Alex's expression softened slightly, a flicker of doubt crossing his face.
Alex: It's too late...
Suddenly he kicks you up into the air and grabs you around the waist before dive bombing into the building below causing it to crumble.
Alex pushed the rubble off you and himself and grabbed you by the collar of your jacket.
Alex: You are living proof that my plan can work (Y/n). Yes I will admit. There will be those during the evolution phase that won't make it. But that's the point. It's like removing or cutting off cancer.
(Y/n): Removing or cutting off cancer? Are you seriously comparing innocent lives to a disease? That's not evolution, Alex. That's genocide. And I won't let you go through with it.
You struggled against his grip, attempting to break free, but his hold only tightened. Determination burned in your eyes as you refused to let fear overtake you.
(Y/n): You may be my family, but I won't let that cloud my decision. I won't stand by and let you destroy everything in the name of some twisted idea of progress. We're not gods, Alex. We can't make people do what we want!
Alex's grip loosened slightly, and for a moment, you thought you had gotten through to him. But then, his expression hardened once again, and a cold smirk spread across his face.
Alex: You're naïve, (Y/n). There is no other solution. The world needs to change, and I'm the one who will make it happen. You can either join me or be crushed along with the rest of humanity.
You refused to be intimidated by his words. Your voice rang out with unwavering determination.
(Y/n): Including Mum? Are you willing to sacrifice your own sister for your twisted vision of the future? Is that the kind of person you've become, Alex?
As you mentioned your mother, a flicker of hesitation crossed Alex's face, but it quickly vanished, replaced by a hardened resolve.
Alex: Don't you dare bring her into this. This is bigger than any individual. Sacrifices have to be made for progress.
You shook your head, refusing to accept his justification.
(Y/n): No, Alex. Sacrifices don't have to be made. People may think we're monsters but that's cause they're human. It's in human nature to fear what they don't understand.
Alex's grip on you tightened, his eyes filled with a mix of anger and frustration.
Alex: You're so blinded by sentimentality, (Y/n). You think you can save everyone, but you can't. You just can't.
You struggled against his grip, your voice filled with determination.
(Y/n): Sacrifices should never be made at the expense of innocent lives. I won't let you become a monster, Alex.
With a surge of strength and determination, you managed to break free from his grip, taking a step back. The tension between you was palpable as you faced off against each other.
(Y/n): I've found and made friends here, Alex. They accept me for who I am. Sure they were afraid at first, but after seeing that I meant them no harm. We got along great.
Alex threw a wall at you which you ducked under.
Alex: You don't think I've tried (Y/n)?! Take it from me and personal experience. Even when you think you've found some people or even found that someone in your life. It turns out they're nothing but liars, murderers and thieves!
As you stood there, contemplating your next move, Lilith and the Supreme Hunter suddenly burst onto the scene, their clash echoing through the air. Lilith, in her Cerberus form, fought with ferociousness, her fangs and claws tearing into the Supreme Hunter's flesh. The creature retaliated with its immense strength, delivering powerful blows that shook the ground.
Realizing that you couldn't let Lilith fight it alone, you sprang into action with your Flailfist. The spiked tendrils lashed out, striking the Supreme Hunter with enough force to knock him away from Lilith.
The Supreme Hunter was resilient, its regenerative abilities allowing it to withstand your assault. It retaliated with a vicious swipe, catching Lilith off guard and sending her crashing into a nearby wall. She let out a growl of pain, but quickly regained her footing, refusing to back down.
Seeing your companion in danger, you mustered all your strength and charged at the Supreme Hunter, your Flailfist hitting the Supreme Hunter with deadly precision. The spikes connected with the creature's body, causing it to momentarily stagger.
Seizing the opportunity, Lilith unleashed a barrage of attacks, her claws and fangs tearing into the Supreme Hunter's vulnerable spots. The creature roared in pain, its movements becoming slower and more sluggish.
With a final surge of determination, you and Lilith delivered a synchronized strike, punching it into the ground. The Supreme Hunter laid there defeated and motionless.
As you stood there, victorious but with Lilith visibly exhausted, your attention shifted to Alex. He stood at a distance, watching the intense battle unfold with a mix of anger and reluctance in his eyes.
(Y/n): Alex, please. I don't want to fight you anymore...
Alex's gaze met yours, his expression a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. He seemed torn between his desire to see his plan through...and the desire to just forget about it and go with you.
Alex: ....
Alex stayed silent as you walked towards him slowly.
(Y/n): I don't want to have to ki-
Your cut off as the Supreme Hunter had quickly got back on its feet and stabbed his claws into your back causing you to gag and look at the sharp appendages go through your chest and stomach.
Lilith: No!
Lilith but the Supreme Hunter's leg which causes the beast to look at her then kick her off with tremendous force which sends her flying into a wall on the opposite building.
The Supreme Hunter then drops you on the ground and raises its foot.
Alex: Stop!
The Supreme Hunter looks at Alex who walks towards the two and stands between them. He looks at Supreme Hunter for a few seconds before turning his head and looking down at you.
Alex: He'll join us eventually. When the time comes, he'll see that I was right.
The Supreme Hunter growls and reverts back into its Cross form.
Cross: What now then?
Alex looks to the side before looking at the city of Japan.
Alex: ...I think New York has had enough of its Zero incident report streak.
Cross just smirks and turns away before walking away from the scene.
Alex looks down at you for a few seconds that felt like minutes before walking away from you. You could hear sirens belonging to...Ambulances? Police? You didn't wanna find out. You stood up only to fall back down and stare at Lilith from afar. You look around and see a rat trapped under some rubble. You grab it and crush it in your hand, absorbing the rats biomass to heal. You quickly jog over to Lilith and pick her up bridal style.
(Y/n): Hold on Lil.
You look at her bruises and cuts, concern etched on your features. You look around for Alex but don't see him anywhere.
You think before before coming to a realisation.
(Y/n): Asia!
You remembered that she has that twilight healing power.
You try to call her but can't get her on the line. So you use your viral sonar to locate her. The pulse eventually returns showing that she isn't far. Sighing in relief, you take off with Lilith in your arms.
