Chapter 6: Punishment
Shadow woke up in an instant. Paws thundered around her, and she had to dodge left and right in order to not get stepped on. Her head felt fuzzy and unclear, and she was confused when she looked around.
"Huh?" She groaned. Though no one had spoken to her. Meadow lunged over and grabbed her scruff, and brought her to the safety of the cave where dawn was waiting.
"Is she okay?" Dawn asked, worried.
Shadow snapped back into reality, "Of course i'm fine!"
"No you are certainly not! I told you not to go past the tree!" Meadow scolded.
"But we didn't!" Dawn argued before Shadow could retort.
"But why on earth did you climb it??" Meadow asked furiously. Her daughters said nothing. "You're lucky to be alive. Your father ordered for a patrol of wolves to go and make sure that thing is out of our territory for good." Meadow said and walked away.
"Did you have a nightmare while you were unconscious?" Dawn asked out of the blue.
"Why? Did i black out?" Shadow asked.
"Yea, but only for a moment. You were straining yourself and twitching." Dawn replied. Shadow looked at her sister, then trudged over to the entrance of the cave, waiting for the patrol to return.
'I don't think i should listen to their calls..' Thought Shadow, 'It seemed to lead me to a terrible fate..'
The patrol eventually returned, and they went straight to Alpha.
"Whatever it was, it was long gone by the time we got to the border. The wind had already swept snow into its tracks." Jagged, a gray wolf with blue eyes, reported. The two other wolves on the patrol, Crook, a brown wolf the color of sandy dirt, and Click, a small, dark gray, scraggly wolf who seemed to never groom his pelt.
"But you didn't catch it?" Alpha roared. He lept down from the rock and forced down Jagged's head with his paw, making him go into a submissive position. The other two quickly did the same.
"Do you expect it to never return? We didn't even so much as lay a scratch on it! It doesn't think we are a threat and to stay away!" Alpha growled. Jagged whimpered a little and said nothing, Alpha let him go. The wolves got up, but still head their heads tilted down in a bow, and backed away. Shadow watched the whole thing.
'One day, they'll all listen to me..'
