What Happens

Michael thought that he'd be brought right into a jail cell and left for awhile, but when Hanna abruptly slipped from the officer's arms who had been carrying him, he was suddenly stopped so that the officer leading him could help try and catch him. He didn't need to really go anywhere, though, since Hanna ran right up to Michael's leg and hid behind it, shaking like a twig. When Michael looked back up at the officers both of them had their guns pulled, trained on him.

Oh come on.

"I'm handcuffed, you idiots. And I'm pretty sure he wouldn't just run to me if he knew I was bad."

They both looked at each other, then hesitantly put their weapons away.

"Put his dog down so it can help calm him," he said, already getting annoyed with the situation.

"And while you're at it. How about you actually listen to me. I told you adoption people were out to our apartment to check on him a few days ago, so why haven't you had anyone go and check that yet? We weren't hiding him from anyone."

The blond officer stepped forward as the brown-haired one carefully set Max down so the pup could run over to Hanna.

"I'm one of the foster coordinators for this city and I have not seen any information on Hanna since he disappeared."

Michael's mouth dropped open in shock.

"No way. There were two cops that came to check on him. They were going to take him but he was too afraid to let them close. He went and hid under Church's bed until they left. They said we could keep him until something was figured out."

They both looked at each other, then the blond guy walked closer, kneeling down so he could try and get Hanna's attention. He got it instantly, but it wasn't positive in the slightest. The poor kid looked like he was about to pee himself as he held onto Michael's pants for dear life with one hand and Max with the other. When the officer figured he wasn't going to be getting Hanna without another round of ear-piercing screams he sighed and stood up, eyeing Michael quietly until finally speaking.

"Did something else happen to him besides when his parents were killed to make him this way?"

Michael glared at him immediately, grinding his teeth together to keep from telling him to go to hell.

"Nothing happened. Church said when he'd found him in the forest that night Hanna had literally run into him. He must have saved him from other demons because he took him home instead of leaving him. And trust me, Church absolutely hates humans, especially children, so whatever happened between Hanna and him to make this situation happen, I have no idea. He even took Hanna to church because the kid asked him to."

The officers looked at each other, which was beginning to become a habit for them, it would seem. Michael knew they were probably thinking something sarcastic along the lines of; A demon in the church? Hah!

"I'm serious. You can ask the people there."

They both looked back at him before one walked away, leaving him with the brown-haired guy.

"We know that he was there. He killed someone right inside the doorway."

Michael swallowed hard at that, knowing that he was right.

"Yes... he did. It was because I was stupid. I went back to the church to try and get my religion back, which I technically did. However, I got burned badly for it and that set him off."

The man's brows went up, then furrowed in confusion.

"He... went into one of the more dangerous places a demon could go to get retribution for your injury?"

Now that he said it aloud, it felt kind of surreal.

"Yeah," Michael answered with a shrug and small smile. "I guess he did."

The guy gave him an odd look and shook his head before leading him over to a prison cell. He thankfully let Hanna and Max stay with him, and unlocked his cuffs before shutting the door.

"It doesn't matter why he did it. He killed someone in cold blood and from what our officers tracking him have relayed back, he has the burn marks that meet the suspects description."

He didn't have to tell him that. He still knew that killing was wrong, but that didn't mean he was going to help the police find Church... even if he did know where he'd gone.

"M-Migel!"

Michael's eyes immediately dropped to Hanna when he began wailing. His eyes were red and puffy, full of new tears just waiting to be shed.

"Aw sweetie, come here," he cooed as he leaned forward and carefully lifted him into his arms. He hugged him tightly as he sat down, but knew that he was his second choice for comfort.

"I'm sorry, Hanna. I know you're wondering where Chesh is, but I really don't know. I'm sure he'll come back for you soon, though, you know he never lets you down."

He leaned back after a few quiet moments of sniffling and nodded.

"Ch-Chesh aways come back f-for Hn."

His sobbing started before he could finish his sentence, making Michael shake his head and cuddle him closer.

"He's coming back. It'll be okay, I promise."

"This place is supposed to be the police station? No one is guarding the door and there's barely anyone here."

Michael's head snapped up and to the side as he heard a familiar, husky voice.

Oh my god. He actually came back...

"Church," Michael whispered in utter shock as he felt Hanna's head turn to the right. The second he saw Church he shrieked like the little boy that he was and squirmed out of his arms. The bars to the cell were just far enough apart so that he could squeeze through, and man did he do just that, fast.

"Go get him, Hanna," Michael cheered with a laugh. He really didn't need the encouragement though, since he was literally flying towards Church. The officer pulled his gun and aimed it at Church, but it was completely ignored as Church knelt down to pick up their boy.

"Are those tears I see, Hanna? I thought we had an agreement, big boys don't cry, right?"

Hanna gaped, his mind completely forgetting about where they even were or the cop behind him. He swiped the back of his little hands over his eyes, trying to swipe away the evidence before he nodded sternly.

"Big boys don't cwy. I was helpsing Migal. He was sad."

Church glanced over Hanna's head at Michael with a cocky smirk he knew all too well.

"Yup. I was totally bawling my eyes out because my demon ran away without taking me with him. Complete broken heart right here."

Church's eyes rolled at his sarcasm as he shifted Hanna in his arms a bit, then walked over to the jail cell. Michael got up as he approached, noting all of the burns on his naked body... and trying not to pay attention to the thing between his legs.

Definitely not the time.

"Are you alright, Michael?"

His eyes snapped up to Church's face in bewilderment.

Had he just... asked if I was okay?

Michael mentally searched his previous words for the word sex, but couldn't find it.

I'll be damned. Well, I probably already am.

"Uh, I'm okay. They didn't hurt us."

His stressed sigh of relief had Michael even more confused.

"Alright," Church mumbled before turning to the cop with a fake smile.

"Let me in the cell."

The guy looked extremely pale as he hesitantly stepped forward, his gun never lowering.

"Step back a few feet," the guard said shakily. Church did as told right away, allowing the officer to get the door open without him having to worry about getting attacked.

Well, I'd still be worried because he's honestly terrifying when he's angry, but I'll just keep this thought to myself.

"Alright. Get in, demon."

Those words made Church snicker and pat Hanna's back gently.

"I have a name and I'm sure you know it, human. So how about we play nice and you use it?"

The officer gulped and sneered, but when Church didn't even move an inch he sighed and growled out, "Church. Get in the cell, now."

"See, that wasn't so hard. Little human."

Church could easily bend the bars and get Michael out, then leave, but it would be fruitless now. Sure, he had enough money to disappear and start over somewhere else, but for some reason... he didn't want to. Something was wrong in his town, with his demons, and running away would be the most cowardly act a demon could do. So, he stepped into the cell and gently set Hanna down so that he could pull his priest into his arms. At first, his body tensed, but almost immediately it relaxed and Michael wrapped his own arms softly around his waist.

"I'm glad you came back for Hanna. He was so afraid without you," Michael said quietly as he looked up at him. Their eyes met and he could instantly see the worry in Michael's. His head began lowering back to his chest but Church lifted his chin with a finger and leaned down to whisper against his lips.

"I came back for three things that I just can't seem to get rid of."

Church knew that he was going to argue what he meant when his mouth began to open, but he wasn't going to let him waste time discussing useless things when he could have his tongue dominating his. Right as Michael was about to begin Church covered his mouth with his own, then growled to stop him from trying to pull away, just in case. He thought that he would be free of all the stress that came with the three nuisances, but then he was suddenly following the scent trail for Michael's car, then the police car's fresh scents after they'd arrested him in the park.

And now I'm here, he thought to himself sarcastically as he leaned back so that Michael could catch his breath. Seeing him panting and flushed right in front of him really sucked when he couldn't really do anything... without likely being moved to another cell. Not that he'd go easily, but he was already injured enough so adding more wounds to the total wasn't of any interest to him.

"Hey demon, we're here to get your statement about what happened at the church."

Sighing in annoyance, Church turned around and glared at the three officers standing in front of the cell, two with clipboards, and the brown-haired one with his gun.

"I killed one of the people who burned my priest, simple as that," he stated before turning back to tug Michael against him once more.

"What? How did you know he was one of the ones who had hurt him?"

Stupid humans.

"He was holding the cross. It was the the one that had burned Michael."

Church heard one of them scoff but didn't bother turning around. Instead, he leaned over and began licking his priest's warm neck, loving the taste of him.

"What makes you think that there weren't others like that?" one of the asked accusingly.

"It smelled like very familiar burned flesh."

There was silence for a few moments before another voice spoke.

"So that's it? You don't want to try and defend your actions?"

Okay, these people are really beginning to piss me off. Just leave me alone and let me have my damned human for a few minutes!

Church whirled around, baring his teeth with a loud hiss.

"I killed the disgusting bastard! If you think that I'll ever deny that then you are delusional! I rid the world of one piece of scum, but I'm sure there's plenty more. Now shut the hell up and go away or I'll get rid of three more."

He really wanted to break the bars and at least kill one of them for good measure, but when he felt a small hand press against his right leg he forced himself to take a few deep breaths and slowly calm down. When he finally looked down at Hanna he was wearing a faint smile.

"Hey there, sorry about that. Chesh got upset, but everything's fine now," he told him, knowing that he didn't like it when people yelled. When he lifted his arms up Church shook his head and picked him up, kissing his forehead to calm him further.

"It's fine. No one is going to get hurt so you don't have to worry, Hanna."

The boy slowly nodded, ending the gesture with a big yawn that brought an actual small smile to Church's face.

"Want to take a nap?" he asked, knowing what the answer would be before he even said it.

"Yesh."

"Alright, I'm going to put you down for a moment," he told him before doing just that, then turning to Michael with a smirk. He definitely realized something was up right away, but he grabbed his arm before he could get away... not like he could really go anywhere, anyways. They were sitting against the wall a a minute later, Michael in his lap. He knew that Hanna would get jealous, though, and he did so pretty much right away, pouting that he wasn't in his lap, too.

"Come here, Hanna. I'm sure Migal would like you to sit in his lap," he said, grinning when Michael caught on and opened his arms in a welcoming gesture. The kid was in them in a heartbeat, dragging Max right along with him so that they could cuddle with Michael. Church's mouth quirked up when Hanna fell asleep almost instantly. He then gently wrapped his arms around him, and in turn, Michael, before finally relaxing his body and leaning his forehead down to rest on Michael's shoulder.

"Let's get some rest. I'm sure we're going to need it soon," he mumbled before allowing his eyes to close. This was the last place he wanted to sleep, but now that he finally had certain things worth coming back for, he wasn't going to mess things up further. And also, whatever demons were fucking with him and his city were going to burn in his own namesake when he caught them... disgusting holy water and all.
