Chapter seven

Asriel sat beside Flae in the infirmary, watching her with a concerned look as she slept. "Asriel, you have not been out of here in two days, watching my sister sleep; get some sleep. We will wake you if something happens," Sale said, looking at Asriel with respect but concern was in his voice as he looked at the Lucario. "I'm fine, honest; I have energy in my necklace to help me stay awake," Asriel explained without looking, tapping the sapphire in it to emphasize the point. "Then go take a walk, get something to eat; you have gone without a break for too long. The other healers can watch her," Glace said, forcing Asriel out of his chair and out of the room without taking any arguments. "We will let you back in after an hour," Sale told him before closing the door, the lock sliding into place.

Knowing that protesting was pointless, Asriel went to the mess hall, his stomach growling heavily with the thought of food. 'I wonder what they are serving,' he thought as he walked, taking deep breaths of fresh air. The chatter of Pokemon reached his ears as he rounded the corner to the mess hall; since he was lost in his thoughts, he did not see the Pokemon he ran into. "Oomf," the Pokemon said as both stumbled back; Asriel saw that he had run into a Raichu, the female healer squeaking in surprise. "S-sorry!" she said, blushing intensely with embarrassment as she helped Asriel to his feet. "You're fine," Asriel replied, smiling sheepishly as he said he should have watched where he was going. "I'm Rachel," the Raichu said, holding a paw out for Asriel to shake; he did while he introduced himself. "Oh; you're the Lucario who saved the Flareon! It is nice to meet a fellow master healer," Rachel smiled, walking with Asriel. "Oh, I am no Master Healer; I have only been taught a small portion of what I need to know. I was apprenticed to the late master Drago Lighttouch," Asriel replied modestly; Rachel gasped with her golden eyes going wide. "YOU are Master Lighttouch's apprentice?!? Did you see when he was killed? Any detail will help us! You know what, come with me; there is something I need to show you!" she squeaked, her cheeks sparking as she all but dragged Asriel deeper into the castle.

"Here we are," Rache said after a few minutes, stopping in front of a metal door, leading him inside; Asriel's eyes smarted at the scent of decay. "Draco's body is this way; he got his own resting place. Oh, sorry for the smell; this is the place for warriors who died in battle, protecting the king," Rachel said, walking past each of the vaults quickly; Asriel noticed her slow down at a vault with a Thunderbolt carved on it, looking sad. Asriel was about to ask what was the matter when she opened an oak door, the smell of crushed Oran berries filling the air much to Asriel's relief.

Rachel lead Asriel inside, the room bare except for a silver casket, sealed with golden wax, a mark of honor and respect from the king himself. A small table was set to the side, one holding a crimson dagger and a clear sphere, both Asriel recognized instantly. "Yes, we have the murder weapon that fell your master, the exact one," Rachel said in response to Asriel's unspoken question. "Why didn't you-," Asriel began, but he was silenced with a pained look from Rachel. "Trust me, we tried everything to trace the killer, but everything came up empty. The reason why I brought you here is because of this," Rachel said as she picked up the sphere, handing it to Asriel.

"Draco left this for his apprentice, should he have taken one," Rachel explained to Asriel's confused look. "Why are you just now giving me this? I should have gotten this a decade ago!" Asriel cried, tears threatening. "We always thought you were his son; he even stated as such in his will, you know," Rachel replied in a sympathetic tone, succeeding in making Asriel cry as he closed his eyes, screaming for his master in grief.

Rachel let him alone in the room, knowing he needed the time. "M-master," Asriel sobbed, holding the sphere close to his chest. 'Asriel, my son,' a voice said in his mind, one that Asriel had not heard in a long time. "Master?" Asriel sniffed, looking around for a ghost of his former master. "Yes, my son. I am here," Draco replied, the orb changing to a deep blue, the color of his aura. "Master!" Asriel cried, his tears now happy ones as he collapsed on the floor, looking at the sphere with a smile.

"Asriel, there is not much time. the ones that killed me will come after you next; I need to train you in battle magic for you to defend yourself," Draco told Asriel, his tone urgent. "But master, how are you speaking with me? Aren't you dead?" Asriel asked, needing to know. 'My body may be dead, but my mind lives on, in this sphere,' Draco replied, a note of soothing in his voice. "How?" Asriel asked, confused. 'I enchanted this sphere to house my spirit should I be murdered; yes, I knew I was going to be killed,' Draco murmured to his apprentice. "You could have prevented it! You could still be alive!" Asriel sobbed, clutching the orb close to his chest; Asriel did no know why, but he got a picture of Draco shaking his head, eyes full of sadness. 'It would have only stalled it for another time; it was going to happen, no matter what I did,' Draco replied, his tone sad. "I  miss you, master," Asriel said, tears falling onto his chest. 'And I you, my son,' Draco responded.

"Asriel, are you okay?" Rachel asked through the door. "Y-yeah, better than ever," Asriel replied with a real smile as he got up, holding the clear orb securely. "Arceus needs to see you," Rachel said, startling him.

'Why would Arceus want to see me?' Asriel thought as he left the room.
