My Past Bully is Your Best Friend
We were hanging out, just you and me,
but something shifted when she came to be.
Your other best friend, with a simple gaze,
and I watched your mood begin to raise.
Your smile lit up, so bright, so clear,
as she came closer, I could feel the fear.
“I think I’m gonna leave,” I softly said,
while a silent ache filled up my head.
You hugged her close, no hug for me,
your “goodbye” waved so casually.
A dilemma etched across your face,
as Aggy stood there, taking my place.
She was my past, a hurt I knew,
now she’s your present, and I’m fading too.
I turned away, no more to say,
and walked through the park, watching friends at play.
Their laughter echoed, cheerful and loud,
while I dipped my head to hide the crowd.
Tears welled up, but I kept them inside,
shielding my pain from the world’s bright tide.
My past bully, your new light,
and I’m left walking home in frostbite.
With every step, my heart feels sore,
as I write these words, feeling less than before.
