nightmare
Kaity's POV
I woke up from my bed at approximately 3 am in the morning to the sounds of footsteps outside my door. A feeling of trepidation washed over me as I tried to muster up enough endurance to step off the bed and walk towards the door.
I leaned in and pressed my ears up against the door and I could vividly make out the sound of someone. More likely a female crying on the other side.
With a shaky breath and a low pitched voice I asked "who's there" but nobody answered. The atmosphere around me began to get colder and I could feel the hair in the back of my neck standing upwards. The feeling of dread soon took over.
Turning the knob and finding enough courage I timidly shove the door open, reveling an empty hallway. There were no signs of life anywhere. I could only make out my own breath as I breathe due to the frigid temperatures around me.
I apprehensively began walking through the thick darkness that crowded the path Infront of me. One by one all the lights went off as I moved pass them.
"Hello, is anyone there?" I asked still making my way through the darken hallways of my once so beautiful home. Suddenly a bright figure could be seen standing just minutes away from where I was. Iooking closely I could almost make out the torso of lady just standing in the darken entrance surrounded by a bright yellow glow. I calmly quicken my pace and made an immediate U-turn. Low growls could be heard as I rushed back to the safety of my room but, something soon caugh hold of my hand causing me to look back in horror. Turning around I came face to face with something that had the face of Lyla but the disfigured torso of something I couldn't recognise. It pulled me towards its twisted limbs and held me so tight that I could make out the sounds of my own ribs cracking.
" Don't go," she spoke with a deep sinister voice.
I scream before jumping from my bed only to witness that it was all just a nightmare, sighing in relief I stood up and walked towards my bathroom then splashed some cold water on my face before drying it with the towel that sat nearby.
"What is wrong with me", I spoke to myself as I reach for my phone to check my messages. "Wow, it's already 12:00". I gasped realising that I slept through the entire night and day and I still didn't get anything ready for tonight.
Running down the stairs I saw mom and Michael sitting on the sofa both enjoy two slices of pizza. I walk towards them then folded my arms.
" Mom! Have you seen the time and no one though to wake me so I could have gotten some things done before tonight," I snapped at my mom causing her to stop eating and look up at me. Seeing how pissed off I was she just smiled before standing up and handing me a list of things that she had already done.
"Relax baby girl, I know just how important this night means to you and I'll never let anything ruin my baby's first prom so, stop worrying so much and relax. I have already taken care of everything while you were sleeping.
Feeling bad for how I had reacted I slowly loosen up my arms while looking down at the floor.
"Sorry mom, I really didn't meant to yell at you. I've just really been under a lot of pressure lately." I told her still looking at the floor.
My mom then embraced me into her arms before kissing my forehead. " I totally understand." She explained before telling me to go get some more rest while ushering me to the stairs.
Still feeling a little uneasy about the horrible dream I just had I took my mom's advice and walked back upstairs where I saw my phone ringing.
It was Eric, we have been dating for over 3 yreas now but somehow Lyla never liked him. She once even told me that I should choose between them because Eric was nothing but a play boy who would one day break my heart. I never ended up choosing but faith instead choose for me.
I answered the phone and heard Eric's adorable voice. " Hey babe remember that I'll be picking you up at six so don't be late."
"Yeah babe I won't." I replied before saying goodbye and ending the call.
Smiling I got dressed and went back to my mom where I told her that I would be back in a few before leaving the house. She bid me goodbye before kissing me on my left cheek.
"Remember to be back home before five," she shouted as I walked towards the door.
"I promise I will," I replied before pulling the door and walking outside into the freshness of the midday breeze that highlighted the beauty that stood in before of me.
