Wait

"Umm, maybe we should just wait?"

Kayla shrugged her shoulders and plopped down on the asphalt beneath us. I joined her as well.

"I mean, not exactly what I would choose, but whatevah ya say chief."

I leaned my head down on the grass and just stared up at the blue sky with the occasional happy little wispy cloud going by. I could feel the grass tickling my hair as I laid down. So we just wait now, I guess?

I heard a sound next to me, a slight thumping. I turned my head a bit to see that Kayla had decided to join me, looking at the sky. She had a far off look in her eyes, as if she was looking completely past the green trees in our field of vision and past the clouds lazily passing us by. Past the Sun, and even the stars itself. As if she was looking upon the whole milky way, that her amber eyes held all the stars and she knew all of the answers to this retched prison called light.

I sadly had to look away from the girl, due to her glasses starting to blind me. She seemed to notice this so she took them off for me, letting me get a better view of her eyes. It was amazing how her eyes could keep changing colors between chocolate brown to honey. Back and forth, back and forth. I could see why she just says her eyes are colored amber, since they could be brown but they always just kept changing in the light.

"Well, we're in here for the long run I guess."

I nodded my head, agreeing to her statement. We might as well wait this out for a while.

"On the bright side, it's a pretty day."

"No Y/n, it isn't a pretty day, it's a gorgeous day."

We continued to sit in a awkward but at the same time comfortable silence as the sound of the wilderness surrounded us while we waited for a car to pass by.

"Kayla~ I'm bored!"

At this statement she sat up, and I followed suit.

"Well we could always talk I suppose."

"Yeah, I guess."

"So, have any plans today?"

"No, my plan was this date.."

We were engulfed in silence once again.

"You know, this kind of reminds me when I would stay with my Oma."

I turned my head to look back at her.

"Really, how so?"

"Well my Oma and Opa had this backyard with some giant trees in them. I would go outside a lot because of their dog, Toby. He's a cocker spaniel with brown fur. He was one of my best friends. We were inseparable. He was the first thing I ever said by the way. My dad would have fun with this and we played a game of sorts, 'Toby!' 'or not' 'Toby!'"

The two of us laughed at this before I mentioned the original question.

"OH YEAH! That thing! Well in their backyard my Oma would always have a bunch of flowers and bird feeders, so there was always a bunch of birds around. She had this patio where we would eat breakfast and banana bread while we would watch the birds fly by. She also had this swing seat where we would sit as well.

Toby would always try to catch a bird, but he would always fail horribly."

Kayla's face turned sadder though at the mention of the beloved family dog.

"Sadly Toby has gone mostly deaf, and a bit blind. I would go and pet him from behind and he wouldn't even know I was there. I still love him with all of my heart and I'll play fetch with him and give him all of the pets he could possibly want. He'll be turning 14 this year. In regular human years."

She put on a shaky smile once again though.

"Well, you don't want to hear my tale of woe! This is a date! Where we are supposed to talk about love and stuff! And this date has already gone badly enough, and I will not stand it to get any worse!"

It amazes me how strong she can be. She can go from laugh to being straight faced in a minute. She was one of those people I guess.

We then started waiting again in silence.

And waiting

And waiting.

And waiting.

And more waiting.

And even more waiting.

BUT THEN!

More waiting.

[Endless Ending. Ending 3/10]

Try again?
