Fire Fire Burning Bright, There's Nowhere To Run Tonight
Again, this will most likely be another really short one. Sorry! It's also not that good, especially the last part because I didn't really know how to end it.
Takir's breath came in gasps as he ran through the seemingly endless passages, echoing laughter haunting his every step. His eyes darted around, searching for a trace of light in the infinite darkness. Nothing. He cursed under his breath and continued to run through the darkened halls, struggling to block out the high pitched cackling.
"Why do you tire yourself with futile attempts to escape?" An eerie voice cooed, "You know there is nowhere to run."
Takir spoke without thinking, "No! I refuse to partake in your games any longer!" Realizing what he had said, he swore. A chill spread throughout the house, and Takir smacked into a stone wall. He backed away, rubbing his now sore nose, only to find a gelid substance pressed up against his back. He whirled around and found himself staring into the cold, red eyes of the phantasm who had made his entire existence misery. A dead grin was plastered across her ghostly face. Takir gulped. He scrambled back as she floated towards him, tattered white dress billowing around her.
"What did you just say to me?" She dragged her sharp fingernail up to his chin as he turned his head away, "You refuse?"
Takir shook his head, sweat beading his forehead as she threw her head back and cackled. From there, Takir could see the scars that criss-crossed across her pale neck. Reminders of her past life, when she had been cursed with less than kind parents.
Her laughter cut off abruptly as she turned to stare at him, her cold eyes cutting into his very soul. Well, what was left of it at least. Takir swallowed nervously and tugged at his collar as the spirit floated around him.
"I am very disappointed in you, Takir," she tisked, "Here I thought you would be different from all the rest."
She waved her hand, and the lights flooded on to her right, revealing the broken bodies of past victims. Takir felt his mouth go dry as he scrambled back, pressing his back to the cold stone wall.
His breaths were shallow as the form floated towards him.
"Caris, I -"
Caris cut him off, "You dare speak my name?"
Takir began hyperventilating as she grew closer and closer, suffocating him.
"Let this be a lesson to you. Never ever again try to leave this place, or there will be consequences. Understood?"
Takir nodded frantically, praying to Waki that she would leave him alone. Unfortunately for him, that was not the case.
Instead, Caris snapped her fingers, and a wall of flames appeared behind her. Takir made for the side, but the wall of fire blocked his path each time.
"How many times do I have to tell you, Takir?" Her eyes began glowing, "There is no escape."
Cackling, her form vanished, yet her eerie laugh echoed through his head. As the flames closed in, memories flashed across Takir's mind.
"Takir!" A little girl giggled as he threw her up in the air, "Stop that!"
"But why, Aurilia?" He smiled up at her, "You know you love it."
Aurilia giggled and hugged him, wrapping her tiny arms around his neck, "I do. And I also love you, big brother."
"I love you too, Aurilia."
Tears sprung to his eyes as the image of Takir's little sister formed in his mind. The flames licked at his skin, burning whatever they touched. Takir winced in pain.
Caris's voice drifted through the empty hallways, "Fire fire, burning bright, there's nowhere to run tonight."
"I'm sorry Aurilia," Takir whispered under his breath as the flames engulfed him, just as they had been doing for countless nights.
There was no escape from this eternal punishment.
