Chapter 5
Frosttigers eyes narrowed, he leaped onto the hawk, swiftly killing it.
"Nice catch!" Featherfur called, eyes shining. Brokenpaw stood next to her, carrying a large mouse, recently the two weren't at each others throats, Brokenpaw listened to every word Featherfur spoke. When asked, Featherfur only smiled and said, 'Guess I got through to him.'
Eagletalon pushed his way through the bushes, carrying a vole, "It's getting hotter, greenleaf is coming." He mewed.
"That means we better make water rations to the elders if it gets really hot." Frosttiger commented, tail tip twitching. Brokenpaw nodded slightly, "Seems logical enough." He suddenly froze, fur bristling. "MarshClan."
Frosttiger let out a snarl, they were close to Snakerocks, but that was a long way from the border. Eagletalon beckoned to them, "Battle position."
Frosttiger squared up next to him, claws unsheathed as Bloodclaw pushed through the bushes with a large group, eyes hostile.
"Bloodclaw, how dare you trespass on our territory?" Eagletalon snarled, fur bristling.
"Where are they?" Bloodclaw pushed his muzzle forward, eyes flared with rage. "Where are our kits?" Eagletalons eyes widened. "You think we know?"
Bloodclaw let out a snarl, ready to attack when Chestnutflight rushed forward, holding a white and gold kit, a golden kit with white paws, and a white kit with a golden marking under their eyes, "Wait!" He cried, his voice muffled.
He dropped them at Bloodclaws paws, who blinked and sniffed them. "Gorsekit, Weedkit, Oatkit!" He cried, nuzzling them, he let out a sigh, "I'm sorry," He looked up. "things have been.. weird around camp. Aggressive kittypets and whatnot."
Eagletalons eyes narrowed, "It's fine, your lucky Chestnutflight found them. There's a badger running about, it seems to be gone for now but still." He blinked, "Chestnutflight, where is your patrol?" The brown tom glanced up, "I told them to go to camp. I heard yowling and sped up." He replied.
Eagletalon blinked, "Frosttiger, Brokenpaw, you two go." Bloodclaws ear twitched at the sight of Brokenpaw, recognition in his amber eyes. "Featherfur, can you go fetch Adderstrikes patrol, their nearby."
Frosttiger was surprised at the old toms diligence, he hadn't been able to focus on any other cats than the hostile patrol. Now that he was able to relax, he scented Adderstrike, Longclaw, Dogclaw, Thunderheart and Sunpaw.
He turned to the two brown toms and jerked his head, leading them away as Adderstrike called a greeting, making Chestnutflight wave his tail to his brother. He let out a soft sigh and looked around, noticing Nightkit, Brackenkit, and Fernkit wrestling. Sablekit watched a few tail lengths away, her light ginger fur shining in the sunlight. He noticed Icefall and Thistlestrike talking, her fur brushing his slightly. The two have been close as of late, Lionclaw rarely went to see his kit nowadays and he rarely spoke to his mate. The large tom was watching, a jealous glint in his dangerous green eyes though he made no move to stop them. Frosttiger smiled and turned, seeing Eagletalon coming back.
Letting out a sigh, he decided to take a short nap.
He stood to his paws and let out a sigh, seeing Lionclaw lazily sunning himself, snoring lightly.
He gazed around before noticing something. Their were no kits running around.
"My kits!" Foxfurs, Stormyskys, and Icefalls voices cried, the she-cats running out.
Frosttiger rushed forward, "Where did they go?"
"We don't know!" Foxfur cried, green eyes panicked, "We took a nap and they were playing with some moss outside getting watched by the elders.
Whispersong nodded, "I turned for one moment and they were gone!" Her tail trembled, "If something has happened.."
Frosttiger suddenly heard Crookedheart yowl, "The kits! The badger!" Frosttiger instantly bolted, "Nightkit!" He yowled, his paws barely skidded the ground.
Crookedheart followed, "The DeltaClan border!" He called, making Frosttiger nod, fear for his kit rising. He skidded to a halt as he saw Nightkit and the others on a branch overhanging the water.
"Jump!" Nightkit called, rounding on his denmates. Fernkit stared at him with love and distress, "No! You need to come as well!" The branch shook as the badger shove against the base of the tree. Nightkit shook his head, "I'm the oldest, which means I'll die first.." He leaned forward and touched noses with her, "Go."
Sablekit rushed over and leaped, getting caught by Crookedheart, followed by Brackenkit and lastly, Fernkit. He watched, paws frozen in fear, as his son battled the badger, using his small size and speed to confuse the large creature. It roared with rage and lashed out a heavy paw, catching his sons chest. He let out a yowl of pain and suddenly shapes jumped from the bushes, Oakstar, Minnowcloud, Sparklepaw, and Rainwhisker darted out, leaping on the striped creature, making it bolt down shore, where another patrol followed.
Nightkit used this to his advantage as he leaped rock to rock, finally landing on the shore half a tail length away from Frosttiger, who's eyes were scared and surprised.
Nightkit looked up and smiled, "Daddy! I did..it.." He collapsed, blood soaking the ground underneath. Frosttiger opened his mouth in a painful wail. He looked across the shore, seeing Darksoul watching, blood on his claws.
He tore his gaze to his dying son, who was breathing hard, "I.. love..you.." He said softly, eyes shifting from Fernkit to Frosttiger, then he fell limp.
Frosttiger froze, then let out a yowl. "No!"
He collapsed, pushing his nose into the black toms fur.
Oakstar, who made his way to the shore, put his paw on the toms shoulder, "He protected his friends, he died a warrior."
"Indeed." Graystars voice made him look up, tears streaming down his face. She jumped down from the ledge and padded forward until she was next to the dead kit. "This kit proven he is able to become a warrior, so I commend him one as he makes his journey to StarClan, I name him Nightheart." She dipped her head and touched it to his head before turning and jumping onto the ledge.
"Nightheart." He mewed, he heard tiny pawsteps and saw Fernkit reach out a paw and let out a snarl, lashing out a paw, causing the she-cat to leap backwards. "Don't you lay a paw on him! This is YOUR fault!" He snarled, tail lashing, fur puffed out. Fernkit looked down, tears staining the gravel under them.
Frosttiger lifted his son and headed back to camp, tears streaming down his face. He dropped the tom in the middle of camp, Stormysky let out a wail of grief. She rushed forward and nosed his fur, tears staining his fur. Lionclaw, who was sitting nearby, only blinked, eyes narrowing thoughtfully, he stood and padded next to Fernkit, who was sobbing into her mothers fur.
He watched, suppressing a snarl, he knew Lionclaw had told the kits about the badger, now his son was dead. He stared at the limp body and Nightheart and staggered back, he still could not believe this was happening. This had to be a sick and twisted dream, please let this be a sick and twisted dream.
"Frosttiger," He jumped, seeing a blurry Rainpebble, his vision distorted as panic, grief, sorrow, rage, and hatred bubbled over. Rainpebbles voice was now a distorted mess, around him he saw bodies, some he recognized, some he didn't. Riverice was among the dead, Nightheart next, Tigerfang.. He let out a wail and suddenly everything was black.
Stormstar was sitting in front of him, his blue eyes glowing with knowledge.
"Why do you want to take away all happiness I have?" He growled, eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. Stormstar blinked, his gray fur glittered with stars, "Frosttiger, you must protect your Clan. A horrible evil resides, closer than you think, if this evil wins the battle it will tear your Clan, and all the others, apart. Lion cannot be trusted!" He hissed, voice crackling like fire. "His ambition burns like fire but fire can destroy. If he wins the next battle he will bring destruction on the Clan he wishes to make great, Frosttiger, win the next battle."
"What are you talking about?" Frosttigers head whirled, "I don't understand!"
"But you will."
Frosttiger jolted awake, it was dawn, gentle sunlight illuminated the medicine cat den. Rainpebble was sitting a few tail lengths away, his ears drooped slightly, back turned, pulling stems off of a yellow flower with four petals. Frosttiger stood, making his brothers ears snap up, "You're awake." He mewed in a tone that made it a statement more than a question. "Nightheart was buried earlier."
Sadness and lost made Frosttigers heart ache, "He shouldn't have been. I wanted to see him one last time.." He looked away. "It would of taken more of a tole than it has already if you did." Rainpebble replied unsympathetically, ear flicking. "Eat those juniper berries," He stood and picked up the herbs he was sorting, heading towards the store.
Frosttiger looked down, looking at the purple-blue berries and ate them, the juice dripping down his chin. Rainpebble came out and stared at him for a second before sighing, "You better go get Stormysky, she needs parsley."
Frosttiger nodded and stood, making his way out of the medicine den. Despite the warm air, the cold claw of sorrow hung heavy in the air, the camp was sluggish and it was as if all spirits from all the cats had been taken away. Stormysky was lazily picking at a small mouse, eyes glazed over, Hawkthorn was trying to talk to her but she was obviously ignoring him. Chestnutflight was sitting next to Aldertuft, both toms were staring at nothing, sadness in their gaze. Crookedheart looked up from his falcon, "Frosttiger!" He called, staggering up. He had met a fox in the forest and it had clawed his hind leg pretty badly, making it very stiff and seemingly hard to move. He slowly made his way forward, earning the attention of Iceheart, who was talking to Graystar at the base of her den, Silverwind looked up as well, as did Nettletail and Featherfur. Sandycloud watched silently.
Frosttiger gazed around, Crookedheart stared at him wordlessly, but his eyes shone with an apology. For some reason, anger and frustration made Frosttiger let out a furious yowl, making Crookedheart flinch slightly.
"What in StarClans name is wrong with all of you?!" He snarled, eyes sweeping cats that had come out of their dens, and those who were already out. "Just because someone dies doesn't mean we all need to die with him! You think I'm not sad? He was MY son, MY kin, but I'm not floating around camp like a cloud ready to rain on someone. Stop staring at me like I'm a cat with two heads and DO SOMETHING!" he panted, opening his eyes. He looked up, blue, green, amber, and all colors in between of eyes looked back. Eagletalon stood, "Frosttiger is younger than most but wiser than the old." He meowed, looking around, "Look at us? Is this what's left of StormClan? Are we, the cats that defeated MarshClan, going to fall with the dead?"
"No!" Foxfur yowled, joined by many others.
Iceheart smiled and raised to his paws, "Are we going to mope around like a mushroom?"
"No!"
"Who are we?" Graystar asked, jumping on Highledge.
"We are StormClan!" cats yowled.
"Who?" Graystar asked again, eyes sweeping the surrounding group.
"StormClan!" The cats yowl louder, "We are strong! We are important, we are powerful! We are StormClan!" The normal spunk of the Clan ignited like wildfire, spreading from one cat to the next. Warriors began to joke and laugh at each other, apprentices wrestled, kits leaped on their mothers. The Clan that Frosttiger had been raised in was now back, stronger and better than ever.
"StormClan! StormClan! StormClan!" Stripepaw began, earning a irritated look from Lionclaw. The apprentices joined in, the elders, the senior warriors, than the rest. Frosttiger joined as well, he smiled as he heard Rainpebble join, his quiet voice now strong.
The cats began to quiet down and Eagletalon began to set up patrols.
"Frosttiger, Blueheart, Heatherpaw, and Mousedusk. Go to the MarshClan border, that border hasn't been checked since yesterday afternoon.
Lionclaw stood, "I want to join a hunting patrol." He called, tail tip twitching. Eagletalon gazed at him for a heartbeat before nodded, "Lead one, Blueheart, Heatherpaw, and Thistlestrike go with him." Nodding, the aforementioned cats gathered around Lionclaw, Heatherpaw hesitated, but with a sharp look from Blueheart she gave in and followed.
Frosttiger glanced around and noticed Stripepaw talking to Brackenkit, smiling slightly and shoving him gently as he flirted with her. He snorted softly, then sighed as he heard Eagletalons voice again, "Frosttiger?"
Not looking up, he raised an ear to show he was listening, ignoring the looks he got from some of the other warriors, Adderstrike included. "Can you go to the DeltaClan border? The scent markers are dull."
Nodding, Frosttiger stood, "Chestnutflight! Hawkthorn!" He yowled, beckoning the toms over. Chestnutflight followed him out, Hawkthorn following a bit more slowly.
"Frosttiger, have you noticed how weird Lionclaw has been lately?" Hawkthorn asked, breaking the peaceful silence. Frosttiger stopped for a second, taken aback, but then pushed forward, "Of course I have, he's my brother." He muttered, tail twitching in discomfort. Chesnutflight let out a sigh, "I don't like him, he's mean to Stripepaw." He growled. Hawkthorn let out a mew of agreement, "Personally, I think it was him that hurt Nightheart."
Frosttiger let out a frustrated hiss, "Are we here to gossip or to mark the border?" He spat, jumping down the ledge and spraying along the waters edge. The two toms followed, both exchanging glances. Frosttiger let out a soft sigh, "I hate this border." He huffed, tail lashing. Memories began to flood back, he could see the small black tom on the other side of the bank, fighting a lost battle. He dug his claws in the ground, trying to stop the tears that threatened to fall when he felt a paw on his shoulder, making him look up. The soft amber eyes, almost like honey, of Chestnutflights glowed at him, "It wasn't your fault." Hawkthorn nodded, "Yeah," He mewed roughly, though his tone was warm, "Let's hunt. The pile is low."
Frosttiger let himself get herded away, the fishy scent now slowly fading from his nose. The scent of mouse replaced it, and he dropped into a crouch. Hawkthorn, moved slowly into the undergrowth, Chesnutflight took up another position. Hawkthorn lashed around in the bush, two mice and a rabbit shot out, Chestnutflight leaped on the rabbit, while Frosttiger took care of the mice. When Hawkthorn emerged, a vole hung loosely in his jaws, "It leaped into my claws." He purred. Frosttiger let out a purr, "Great, lets go."
He picked up his two mice and lead the patrol to camp and froze when he saw Lionclaw pinning Rainpebble to the ground, snarling something. His paws moved on their own, tackling the golden tabby he shoved him off, "Leave Rain alone!"
Rainpebble scrambled to his paws, "Stop it you two," he weaved his way between the angry cats, "Come on Lionclaw, if it means so much to you I'll look at that claw." He beckoned the tom towards his den, muttering something about wasting herbs. Frosttiger watched with narrow eyes, his blue orbs locking with fiery green ones.
The two stared at each other before Lionclaw padded away, limping slightly.
"Fighting again I see." He looked up, purring when he saw Heatherpaw. "I'm not fighting, I'm defending." He smirked slightly, seeing her roll her red eyes and press her forehead to his. "We haven't spoken in forever," She murmured, "Can we meet tonight? Just the two of us." Hope was heavy in her voice, but Frosttiger knew she knew the answer. "We can't, Blueheart is getting really frustrated with you Heatherpaw, I know I'm distracting but.." He laughed when she gave him a look.
"Shut up Frosttiger." She growled playfully, then she lashed out a paw, landing a gentle blow on his cheek before licking it. He let out a purr and wrapped his paws around her shoulders, flopping on his back and pulled her on top of him. Heatherpaw let out a soft squeak but then laughed and laid there happily, twining her tail with his.
I wish everyday could be like this.
They thought.
Frosttiger stared at Graystar, "It was him Graystar!" He cried. For the last few days he had been collecting evidence that all led Lionclaw to be the culprit to the kits running off, Nighthearts injury, and Nighthearts death. "I already told you the evidence, why don't you believe me!"
"Because, there are too many holes in your so called evidence, when you can get stone hard fact on your side I refuse to reprimand him." She snapped, "Go hunt or something, anything but waste my time." She turned her back on him coldly, letting out a soft growl.
Disappointed made Frosttigers paws heavy as he forced himself to walk away from the white she-cat. Sunlight poured poured on him but it didn't help the coldness that overpowered him. "Frosttiger!" He looked up, Longclaw was padding forward, amber eyes glowing. Deciding that acting like a kit to his clanmates wasn't going to benefit him, he returned the friendly cats enthusiasm, "Yeah?" Longclaw came to a halt, "I was just going out to hunt, you should join me." He began, licking his chest fur casually, "It might help get your mind off things." As he said that he cast a meaningful look at Lionclaw, who was sitting with his back turned, talking to Dogclaw, a few paces away. For a heartbeat, Frosttiger wondered how Longclaw had known about his ongoing quarrel with his brother before he realized that he hasn't exactly kept his frustration a secret. Opening growling, snarling, or baring his teeth at the golden tabby whenever he said or did something stupid. In addition, he knew Longclaw, out of every cat here, would know how annoying his brother could get; after all, Longclaw was Lionclaws former mentor.
"I'd love to." He mewed, after snapping out of his thoughts. Longclaw looked delighted and he beckoned the tom off, trotting towards the bramble barrier. Frosttiger followed, sighing as the crisp warm air of green-leaf surrounded him. He noticed a gray figure of Rainpebble weaving among the trees and called a greeting. He saw his brother wave his dark gray tail in response.
"It's the best to restock in green-leaf." Longclaw mewed, looking at his companion. "That's to be expected, let's just hope we don't overstock." Frosttiger couldn't help the tremor of unease that met the words coming from his own mouth. They were dangerously low in leaf-bare, due mostly to overstocking on herbs that weren't always needed until late into the snow filled season. Longclaw chortled, "Rainpebble has been trained for this, he knows when to get herbs and when to leave them. Besides, I'm sure he has something planned, I heard him talking to Whispersong about making structures to protect any vulnerable herbs. I'm sure Graystar will approve of this, and I'm sure that that catmint near the kittypet border will be the first to be protected, even though it doesn't need it."
Frosttiger recalled the sweet herb near the Woodwall, he knew that with the ever increasing border patrol around there that there will be some battles. He had watched, with disgust, as a few delinquent toms carelessly ate the precious herb, of course it was from their own gardens but the implication of wasting something that could save a life had disturbed Frosttiger that he padded away. He told Rainpebble and the tom moved the herb into an empty space in the deep undergrowth, knowing that the kittypets would have a hard time navigating through it. The cats returned and saw it was gone, one was going to see if he could retrieve it only to get ambushed by a patrol. The party returned to their homes with a few painful reminders of where the border lies.
"It's rare that green-cough is caught in green-leaf, but not impossible." Longclaw continued, "I'm thinking of retiring. My bones can't keep doing this for very much longer." Frosttiger wasn't surprised, he noticed that Longclaw, though a great hunter, usually fell behind the younger warriors. He had also noticed the flecks of gray peppered across his muzzle, he realized that it was probably for the best that Longclaw not push himself past his limit.
"I'll respect you the same." Frosttiger murmured, looking at the old tom next to him. Longclaw snorted, "Don't speak to me as an elder yet Frosttiger, I'm old but I'm not dead." He laughed then looked around. "Now, where was that mouse that was just scurrying about?"
Frosttiger eased into camp, his muscles aching from the long day. Right after he returned from hunting, he joined a patrol on the kittypet border because Mousedusk was having trouble breathing again, then he helped Eagletalon and Lionclaw move a pesky dead trunk that decided to fall across the small river near Snakerocks, making the land around it marshy.
The stench of blood hit him like a claw, making him feel queasy. He padded forward, looking into the medicine cat den and almost yowled at what he saw before him.
Stripepaw was crouching, her left eye wide open with a terror stricken look, blood caked on her right from a running cut above. "Stripepaw?" He asked softly, making the she-cat jump, but not answer.
Rainpebble quickly began to lick the blood off, turn inspected the awful mark, it still ran strong and infection scent joined the sickly scent of blood. The gray tom let out a hiss of annoyance and chewed dock, horsetail, goldenrod, marigold, and oak leaves before spitting it on the cut. He gently placed some catchweed on the poultice and wrapped cobwebs on it.
Then he pulled some thyme with his tail, drawing it closer. He lowered his head slightly, mewing gently, "Eat this leaves, it will help."
Stripepaw followed the order mindlessly. A pang stabbed Frosttigers heart, Stripepaw was such a great she-cat, it pained him to see her like that.
"Stripepaw." He mewed, making her look up. He realized that she was only reacting to the sound of his voice, not at the words he was saying. He let out a small frustrated huff and looked at Rainpebble who shook his head. "She's in shock. Lionclaw had come back from the forest, he said he was testing her tracking skills when he heard a yowl. He found her on the forest floor, like this, blood soaking the ground." Frosttiger gave a small nod, he licked Stripepaws ear before turning, only to get stopped.
"You're muscles are aching, I can tell, wait here." Rainpebbles pawsteps faded, he came back with ovalish leaves, when he touched them it was soft, like a kitten fur, but it had jagged edges.
"What are they?" He asked, looking at his brother who was feeding Stripepaw poppy seeds, "Raspberry leaves, eat them, it will help with the pain." He gently pushed Stripepaw to one of the nests that lined the wall and snatched a beech leaf.
"Where are you heading?" Frosttiger asked, chewing on the slightly sweet leaf. Rainpebble regarded him with a guarded look, "DeltaClan and BreezeClan." He said tersely before padding away.
Off to get herbs, Frosttiger thought but as he though some more they landed on Stripepaws injury. Poor she-cat, he thought sadly, She looked horrified.
He glanced up, seeing Graystar leap onto Highledge and let out a soft growl. His stomach felt empty and he wanted to eat but, seeing Fernkit, Brackenkit, and Sablekit, he knew exactly what was happening.
He sat down next to Heatherpaw, twining his tail with hers as she leaned onto him, letting out a soft groan, "I wrenched my claw." She whined, looking up at the tom.
"Are you okay? Did you get herbs?" Frosttiger looked down at her, worry finding his way in his scent. She let out a soft chuckle, "You're acting like I'm going to die, yes I got herbs, Blueheart wouldn't let me do anything otherwise." she reassured him.
He let out a soft sigh of relief as Graystar yowled the meeting call. Once everyone was around she smiled, "Today, is a good day." She began, but something prodded Frosttiger. Stripepaws injury. Something about that story didn't add up, it was too... flexible. "Thistlestrike," Grayststars strong voice snapped Frosttiger out of his thoughts, he looked up and saw Graystar glance at him meaningfully as she continued, "you have shown yourself to be a great warrior, friend, and hunter, I trust you will pass these skills to Brackenpaw.
Thistlestrike puffed his chest out as he padded forward, pressing noses to the brown toms.
"Fernkit come forward," She continued.
Frosttiger found himself think again, it wasn't the badger, he knew, if it was it would of done worst. Lionclaw was a good warrior but he would of faced some injuries which, looking at the scarred golden tom, he obviously didn't, It couldn't of been a fox, with the badger running about even fox knew to steer clear. Thorns and thistles don't do that sort of damage and rabbits- rabbit! Had a rabbit clawed the she-cat?
"Frosttiger!" He jumped at Icehearts hiss, "Pay attention!"
He let out a soft growl and focused his attention upward. Fernpaw was standing next to Mousedusk and Rainpebble had made his way to the front.
"As you know, I will not be here forever." He mewed, voice strong, "So it is time I took an apprentice. I have chosen a cat who has shown an tendency to herbs and remedies, an aptitude to learn, and a show a good character. Your next medicine cat will be Sablepaw."
Sablepaw looked delighted, her light green eyes shone bright. "Sablepaw, do you-"
"Yes!" Sablepaw cried, not waiting for the leader to finish, "I do."
Rainpebble chuckled, as did many other cats, but Frosttiger caught a hiss from Adderstrike, Sablepaws father.
"Then you will travel to the Moonstone to be accepted by StarClan before the other medicine cats." Rainpebble smiled, "And not cut them off when they do."
Sablepaws ears drooped in embarrassment but Graystar laughed slightly, "The good wishes of StormClan go with you. Also," She went on. "Longclaw has something to say."
The dark striped tom padded forward, "I wish to join Crookedheart, Goldenspruce, Whispersong, and Reggy in the elders den. It pains me to say, but I cannot provide enough for this Clan as I once had. My aching bones will not allow it, so it is my wish to join to elders."
"You're Clan honors you and all the service you have given to us." Graystar mewed, "I call upon StarClan to give you many moons of rest. I am honored to have fought with you for so many moons Longclaw." She dipped her head.
"As am I." Eagletalon agreed, Lionclaw padded forward and touched his nose to his former mentors, "Thank you for teaching me all you know. I promise to bring you the juiciest prey in all the forest."
Frosttiger padded forward as well, "Thank you for sharing your last with me." He dipped his head and licked the toms ear. Longclaw let out a small chuckle, "And thank you for joining me."
Longclaw let out a loud purr as the Clan chanted his name, before he withdrew to the elders, who welcomed him with licks and gently rubbing against him.
Finally Graystar jumped down and excitement blew across the clearing.
"When do I go?" Sablepaw asked excitedly, obnoxiousness floated around her. "
"Today actually, I had forgotten you turned six moons, we can travel tomorrow to BreezeClan and DeltaClan to fetch herbs, the moon is coming up, we leave now." Rainpebble turned, "Farewell, Frosttiger!"
"Goodbye Rainpebble, may StarClan accept your apprentice and guide her well." He yowled, watching his brother and his new apprentice leave.
He turned, looking at Heatherpaw, "You are finding every excuse to stay an apprentice." He teased, licking her ear before he heard Blueheart yowling, "Heatherpaw, come on, I saw you playing with Tangledpaw. Let's use that energy to mark the kittypet border!"
"Believe me, it's not that I don't want to become a warrior. Tell Stripepaw I said get better!" Heatherpaw sighed and ran towards the blue-gray she-cat, as Foxfur and Aldertuft joined.
Stripepaw, rabbit.. he thought for a moment before cold realization swiped at him. He had gotten scratched by him enough that he knew what Lionclaws mark looked like.
Looking at the tabby that stuck out in the pale moonlight, he couldn't help but notice the blood that seemed to always be on his fur.
Had his brother attacked his own apprentice? And if so, why?
