Chapter 2
Frosttiger let out a sigh, it was a night before the Gathering and Graystar had called a meeting. Now she was talking to Sandycloud, who was ranting to her about something and casting glances around the surrounding cats.
"Graystar!" Crookedheart finally growled, "We need to get a move on, some of us are tired and would very much like to sleep." His tail lashed, eyes full of drowsiness. Goldenspruce, who was sitting next to him, gave him a flick with her tail at his rudeness but she too looked very tired.
The she-cat looked up and sighed, looking at Sandycloud, "Are we in agreement?" She asked, a hardness in her voice that confused Frosttiger. The tan and white cat sighed, looking away, "I guess I have no choice do I? If the one you chose isn't ready.."
"Their ready." Graystar mewed, her voice stern, "I wouldn't trust a cat that I didn't think was ready."
Sandycloud searched the leader for a heartbeat, her eyes full of skepticism but then she nudged Tangledkit forward, mumbling something in his ear.
"Tanglekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed." She started, earning a burst of excitement from the once grouchy and tired cats, "From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be know as Tangledpaw. Your mentor will be..." She let her gaze sweep the cats under her, making the tension and excitement build, until they rested on a cat that didn't expect it. "Frosttiger." Frosttiger stood still from where he sat next to Heatherpaw, stunned. "I hope Frosttiger will pass down all he knows on to you. Frosttiger, come forward."
The tom still stood frozen in pace before Heatherpaw gave him a nudge, "Go." She hissed softly, making him stagger forward.
Graystars whiskers twitched in amusement, "Frosttiger, you are ready to take on an apprentice. I trust you've received excellent training from myself and you have shown yourself to think on your paws and to be patient. You will be the mentor of Tangledpaw, and I expect you to pass down all you know to him." She finished.
Tanglepaw looked up at his new mentor, his green eyes shining as he started to pad forward, Frosttiger blinked, "Graystar.. I thank you for this opportunity, and I will try my best to teach all I know to this apprentice." He dipped his head awkwardly, trying to fight down the uncertainty, confusion, and shock that was threatening to overpower him and turned, pressing noses to Tangledpaw.
"Tangledpaw! Tangledpaw! Tangledpaw!" The Clan yowled with enthusiasm, there was obviously allot of uncertainty in the Clan with Graystars choice as some warriors seemed reluctant to join but they stilled joined.
Lionclaw suddenly pushed his way to the front, "Why him?" He growled, "Why not me? I'm the best fighter in the Clan!"
Mews of agreement arose from the cats, and Frosttiger suddenly felt as though all the world had turned upside down.
Graystar silenced the mews with a simple flick of an ear and gazed down on Lionclaw intently, making him back up slightly to try and escape her gaze, "Lionclaw, I chose Frosttiger because he is a great fighter but he also thinks before he speaks something some of our warriors seem to lack." Her eyes narrowed, "Until you can prove patient and capable enough to mentor I refuse to give you an apprentice." She jumped down, "Now, go to sleep, Hawkthorn, Stormysky, watch camp." She ordered, disappearing into her den.
Stunned silence enveloped the clearing before Iceheart let out a growl, "Do you all have bees in your brain? Go!"
Heatherpaw blinked then approached Frosttiger, happiness in her eyes, "I can't believe you're a mentor!" She cried, pressing her muzzle against his.
"Aw! No fair!" Flamekit cried, "I wanted Frosttiger as a mentor!"
Heatherpaw blinked at the apprentice then smiled, "There's plenty of warriors that would make a good mentor for you." She told the kit.
"Yeah, but I wanted Frosttiger." Flamekit huffed, looking at Tangledpaw with jealously.
Tangledpaw ducked down, "S-sorry Flamekit, I didn't know that Graystar would choose him!" he mewed, licking between her ears, "I can see if Graystar will change it for you."
Frosttiger felt a stab of pride that his apprentice was so humble, but also disappointed at the though that he could possibly lose his chance to prove that he could train a good warrior that could provide for the Clan.
Relief, but not without slight guilt, flooded him when Flamekit gave him a shove, "You don't need to do that." she mewed softly, looking away, "Just.. don't fall off the mud drop will ya?"
Tangledpaw let out a purr, "I won't."
Frosttiger cleared his throat, interrupting the two, "Tangledpaw, I'm sure you're tired so go get some moss from Whispersongs den, I can show you how to collect it tomorrow when you refresh the elders bedding."
Tangledpaw looked disheartened, "Aren't we going to battle train?"
"No, we aren't on the brink of battle, we can battle train after the Gathering, I know Graystar is going to take you so I'm not going to ware you out beforehand." He told him firmly, then softened his tone, "Heatherpaw will wake you up at sunup, when we explore the territory we can hunt how does that sound?"
"Great!" Tangledpaw cried, instantly happy again, "Thanks Frosttiger." He ran off, disappearing inside the medicine cats den.
Heatherpaw looked at him, "You're going to be a good mentor." She purred, licking his cheek.
"I hope so." Frosttiger mewed, "Sandycloud seemed worried about Graystar choosing me, maybe the Clan doesn't trust me."
"Don't be ridiculous!" Eagletalon cried, making him jump, "Sandycloud was just worried about you becoming a mentor so soon! You've only been a warrior two full quarter-moons for StarClan sakes! She was worried that you might get overwhelmed." Frosttiger felt a pang of gratefulness that the she-cat felt concerned but gave a swift nod, "I'm thankful for her concern but mentoring is how a warrior learns. All cats need to learn how to eventually."
Eagletalon nodded, "Of course, now come. I'm tired, oh and Heatherpaw."
She looked up, "Thunderheart won't be happy when his temporary apprentice is too tired for Dawn patrol."
She looked panicked and quickly nodded, "You're right. Goodnight Frosttiger." she touched noses with him briefly and then left.
Frosttiger sighed in content, watching as her tail tip disappeared from outside the apprentices den, then felt Eagletalon tap his shoulder with his tail, "Come on, I know you must be exhausted."
Nodding, Frosttiger followed the tom into the warriors den, yawning as he curled in his nest and close his eyes.
When he opened then he let out a groan, "Really? I'm tired! Can't I just sleep?" He growled, looking up to glare at Darksoul but he froze when he saw Lionclaw, obscured by shadows so that only the bottom half of his face showed and his green eyes glowed in the darkness. His expression was ominously dull, but suddenly he pulled his lips back in a snarl, "Tangledpaw should of been my apprentice." He spat, jumping down.
Frosttiger rolled his eyes, "Really Lionclaw? Graystar is the leader, she knows better than you." He glared at his brother, but then he felt nothing but fear as his brother slowly crept forward, his claws slipping out.
"Graystar is weak." He spat, "She doesn't deserve to be leader anymore, as for I," he straightened, a cold and murderous glint in his eye, "I deserve more." He smirked then glared at his brother, "If the only way I'll get Tanglepaw as my apprentice is to get rid of his old one then so be it!" He leaped, tackling his brother.
Frosttiger let out a screech and then went limp.
He felt his brother stare at him, then, slowly, began to loosen his grip. With an explosion of energy, Frosttiger surged upward, letting out a ferocious yowl. He lashed out a claw, catching Lionclaws shoulder. Lionclaw let out a painful cry and went to retaliate but Frosttiger leaped over him, twisting so he was facing his enemy and aimed blows at his hunches. Lionclaw whipped around but Frosttiger leaped out a harms way and glared at his brother.
"Stop it!" He looked up, seeing Darksoul glaring at the two with a furious expression, "I will not stand for bloodshed over something so petty! Lionclaw, you will get your chance to mentor an apprentice, Graystar can't ignore you forever." He growled, "No, go train with Oakfire." Lionclaw looked mad but he turned and disappeared into the shadows.
Darksoul looked at Frosttiger, "You've been skipping out on practice."
"I have better things to do now Darksoul." He pointed out, "We aren't on the brink of battle and I have kits I need to take care of!"
Darksoul let out a snort, "Let Blueheart take care of them! You need to focus on becoming the best warrior in the Clan."
Frosttiger let out a snarl, anger making his blood boil, "I will not leave my kits alone!" He spat, shoving his muzzle against Darksouls forcibly, "It's bad enough that you never leave me alone, now you're telling me to leave my kits without a father when they don't have a mother? I refuse to listen to you Darksoul! You can train me, but I draw the line when you butt into my personal life so how about you butt out!" He shoved past him and wondered off, closing his eyes and opening them to see it wasn't even sunup.
He got up and sighed, seeing Stormysky laying down, her fur smooth as usual.
He twisted around and blinked when he saw his fur was messy and unkempt. Scowling at his appearance, he gave himself a thorough grooming and padded over to Stormysky, "Hey, wanna take a walk?" He asked, looking at her.
Stormysky looked up, "Yeah.. sure. A walk sounds good." She purred, gazing at him intently.
"And this is the Owl Tree." Frosttiger told Tangledpaw, "Don't worry, an owl hasn't been here since I was an apprentice."
Tangledpaw stared at the tree in wonder, "Are owls scary?"
"Horrifying." Frosttiger growled, pelt prickling at the thought of the evil bird, "Now come on," he ordered, we have a couple of places to stop by."
Nodding, Tangledpaw followed him to the Sandy Hallow, "This is where we battle train," he told the tom, "Remember this place well because trust me you will be coming here often."
Tangledpaw nodded and followed him, "The ground.. why is it turning gray? Are we close to Sunningrocks?"
"Yes," Frosttiger informed, pushing forward and then stopping at the ledge.
"Is it a cliff?" Tangledpaw asked fearfully, eyes widening in circles.
"No, there's ground three tail lengths down," He told him, "There's steps down on the left but it's simpler to just.." he gracefully leaped down, landing down perfectly and moved forward, looking up at the curly furred apprentice. "Come on!" He called, "It's not scary."
Tangledpaw looked skeptical but then jumped down, landing perfectly, "Good, landing on rock helps build up your pads."
"Why do we need to do that?" Tangledpaw asked, confusion lining his expression.
"Hard pads means jumping down from trees and climbing them won't hurt." He explained, then turned seeing DeltaClan cats on the other side of the river.
He recognized Minnowcloud, Rainwhisker, and Nuttail, but couldn't recognize the small silver tabby she-cat that was next to Minnowcloud.
Slowly he sunk into the river and waded to the rock marking the end of StormClans territory. Pulling himself out he gave his pelt a shake, "Hey Nuttail!" He greeted cheerfully, looking behind him as Tangledpaw jumped from rock to rock to land next to him.
He moved into the water a bit, giving his apprentice more room.
The brown tabby looked up, "Hey Frosttiger! I'm surprised you know how to swim, haven't seen many StormClan cats do that." She purred, tail tip twitching in amusement.
"Eh, it's not that bad once you get used to it," Frosttiger purred, "Wish my fur didn't hold as much water as it does though."
"Eat fish!" The small silver tabby next to Minnowcloud chirped, "It helps."
"I suppose that's one of the advantages of eating the creatures huh?" Frosttiger smiled.
"That's the only advantage I'm seeing." Tangledpaw pulled a disgusted face, "I've tasted fish and it's awful! I'd take a stale mouse than a fresh fish any day!"
The small she-cat, an apprentice Frosttiger assumed now that he was close, rolled her blue eyes, "Stormcats." She scoffed.
"Stormcats? Do you mean us?" Tangledpaw asked, tilting his head.
"No, I mean Breezeclan." She replied sarcastically, "Of course I mean you."
Frosttiger gave an amusement snort when Minnowcloud cuffed her ear, "Be nice Sparklepaw!"
Sparklepaw let out a growl and looked away.
Seeing the interest in Tangledpaws eyes made Frosttiger growl, "Come on Tangledpaw, you still need to refresh the elders bedding." He turned to pad off and wrinkled his nose in the beginnings of a snarl when he heard Tangledpaw say, "See you at the Gathering Sparklepaw!"
As he leaped up the cliff, he didn't wait for Tangledpaw as he padded onto the trail.
"Wait up Frosttiger!" Tangledpaw called, rushing up.
Frosttiger whipped around glaring at his apprentice, "The answers you can't." He growled.
"What?" Tangledpaw looked confused.
"You can't meet her!" Frosttiger snarled, tail lashing.
Tangledpaw blinked, "I wasn't going to." He mewed, "I like Flamekit."
Frosttigers eyes narrowed but then he nodded, "Sorry, it's just.."
"It's just you met Brokenkits mother in secret," Tangledpaw finished, "look, she's pretty, but I don't trust anyone outside of StormClan, you're the cats that took me in and you're the cats that are training me to be a warrior! I wouldn't jeopardize all that because of some apprentice outside the Clan."
Frosttiger nodded, "I know, and I was stupid for thinking that you would. I'm sorry."
Tangledpaw rushed forward and pressed his nose to Frosttigers, "It's okay."
Frosttiger turned, "Come on, lets go."
Trekking onward, he suddenly froze.
"Tangledpaw!" He whispered, making the tom rush forward, "What?"
"This is your chance to caught something, you see that rabbit?" He pointed towards the white creature, who was sniffing at the ground.
Tangledpaw looked nervous but he dropped and began to inch his way forward cautiously. He step his paws down lightly, his tail completely still, suddenly he leaped and killed the rabbit swiftly and neatly, earning a nod.
"Good! Be that cautious with rabbits always, they fight back." Frosttiger informed him, then noticed how large the rabbit was, "That's an excellent catch, we rarely get rabbit here. When you get back to camp bring that straight to the elders and refresh their bedding."
Tangledpaw nodded and followed as Frosttiger set off, making his way back to camp.
He pushed through the bramble entrance and noticed the sun was above the trees.
He blinked then nudged his apprentice, "Go, make sure the moss isn't damp, Scarpelt will shred your ears if he gets wet bedding!"
Tangledpaw gave a flick of his tail to show that he heard and pushed into the elders den, then backed out as they moved into the sunny clearing, gathering around the rabbit to eat it.
"Setting him to work already?" Heatherpaw asked, making him turn. "Why shouldn't I? He's my apprentice after all." He was confused, isn't this what being a mentor was?
"Perhaps, he seems happy enough following orders and that rabbit he caught was huge! He was lucky to have you as a mentor."
He blinked then smiled, "Yeah, I guess," he replied sheepishly, "but my brother doesn't seem to agree." He cast a side glance at the golden tabby who was laying down next to Icefall, muttering something to her.
All the happiness and affection drained from Heatherpaws face, "Lionclaw needs to learn how to think beyond his own whiskers!" she mewed, "I know he's your brother but I don't trust him, it seems as though he wouldn't give a mousetail if Graystar got hurt!"
"No, I agree with you." Frosttiger sighed, "I wonder why he wanted Tangledpaw so bad."
"To be deputy you need to have trained at least one apprentice." Heatherpaw mewed, "Maybe he wants to be leader."
Frosttiger froze, he tried to imagine his brother atop Highledge, giving orders, preparing them for battle, watching over the Clan. He didn't like it, not one bit. His brother was too quick to jump into battle, he's to fierce as Heatherpaw once said when she was a kit.
"Frosttiger!"
He jumped, getting snapped out his thoughts, and looked at Heatherpaw, "Yeah?"
"I heard you went for a walk with Stormysky.." She murmured, looking away.
Guilt stabbed at Frosttigers belly, "Yeah I did this morning. Sorry, I didn't want to wake you and-"
"I'm not mad at you Frosttiger," She interrupted, licking him, "I just wanted to be sure that it wasn't some stupid rumor. Have you noticed how close she and Hawkthorn are?"
He blinked and followed her gaze to where the two cats sat, laughing and sharing a blackbird. Hawkthorn smiled when she shoved him with a paw, laughing at whatever he just said. He always knew that Hawkthorn had a thing for Stormysky but he never saw the two as mates. Stormysky didn't seem to like him as one either.
He tore his gaze away from the two, not wanting to see anymore of Hawkthorns stupid attempts to woe her, "He's as mad as a fox if he thinks he has a chance with her." He muttered, rolling his eyes.
Heatherpaw chuckled, "I don't know.. I doubt you knew this would happen." She mewed, getting close to the tom. His heart skipped a beat, heat pooled in his cheeks, and he looked away, "I guess."
She let out a snort and twined her tail with his.
"Frosttiger!" He looked up, seeing Tangledpaw running up to him, "I'm done with the elders bedding, is their anything else I can do?"
"No," Frosttiger replied, "you're going to the Gathering tonight, so how about you go catch some shuteye."
Tangledpaw nodded, "Can I eat first?"
"All of your tasks are finished for today, you do whatever you want, as long as it takes place in camp."
Tangledpaw nodded and rushed off, picking out a mouse and plopped down next to Flamekit to eat.
Heatherpaw let out a yawn, "Sleep sounds great," She mumbled, "cya Frosttiger."
He nodded and let out a sigh, he was tired as well and decided to take a nap. As he turned he suddenly was stopped, "Frosttiger."
He let out a soft growl, "What Lionclaw?" He hissed, glaring at his brother.
His brother had a smug look on his face, "I heard that you didn't take Tangledpaw battle training."
"Yeah, so? We aren't on the brink of battle, it hardly matters now. We need to focus on hunting, I'm taking him out battle training in three days." He explained, "It isn't fair to him-"
"Are you stupid?" Lionclaw snarled, cutting him off completely, "We are always threatened because of attack! What if a badger comes, or fox, or that owl." Frosttiger went rigid, "Just because we aren't being threatened directly doesn't mean we can put our guard down!"
"How about you let me mentor my apprentice and I let you mentor yours when you get one." He spat, glaring at him.
With those words he left, pushing his way past Hawkthorn who was going towards the warrior den.
"Who put dirt in your fresh-kill?" Hawkthorn growled once he came inside.
"Not in the mood Hawkthorn." He growled, putting his tail over his nose, he shut his eyes.
He sensed Hawkthorn glaring at him, but he heard pawsteps indicating that he was walking to his nest. Shuffling confirmed that and he heard Hawkthorn let out a sigh of relief.
Slowly, Frosttiger fell asleep.
Frosttiger opened his eyes, seeing that it was sundown, he blinked and got up, making his way out of the den.
Tangledpaw was talking to Lionclaw, looking troubled.
Slowly inching his way up, he pricked his ears, straining to listen.
"Wouldn't you want me as a mentor instead? We can battle train everyday you wouldn't ever waste precious training time refreshing the elders bedding." Lionclaw was saying, a disgusted edge in his voice.
"What do you mean 'waste time'? I like caring for the elders! Without Scarpelt you never would of been born, you should treat them with respect!"
He felt a stab of pride that his apprentice understood the honor that the elders had and respected them, deciding that he wasn't going to allow his brother to try and manipulate his apprentice he stepped closer. "Lionclaw, shouldn't you be watching the back entrance?"
His brother jumped and whipped around, but then he let out an annoyed hiss and shoved pass him, tail lashing.
Frosttiger let out a sigh and looked at his brother, "I'm sorry about him." He mewed, "Did you let any of his lies get to you?"
"No, of course not. He's madder than a fox in a fit!" Tangledpaw scoffed, green eyes glinting in anger.
Frosttiger sighed, "Your telling me." He muttered.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here, beneath Highledge, for a Clan meeting!"
He looked up, not moving from his place, "The cats attending this Gathering are Dogclaw, Tangledpaw, Adderpaw, Hawkthorn, Stormysky, Lionclaw, Goldenspruce, and Alderpaw."
"I want all cats to know," Rainpebble said from where he sat. He had gotten his full medicine cat name but with him being a full medicine cat and with having more kits he's been so busy that Frosttiger barely sees him anymore. "that Whispersong isn't coming. She's okay," He quickly added, hearing the alarmed mews arise from the surrounding cats, "she's just tired, so I'll be attending the Gathering myself."
Graystar looked worried but she nodded, "All cats I called, come on." She jumped down and led the cats off.
When the neared the slope Graystar held her tail erect, Frosttiger looked at Tangledpaw, who was rigid with excitement, his eyes glittering with anticipation and fear. "You ready?"
Tangledpaw looked up, "I think." He murmured, his voice soft.
"Calm down, just don't give away anything to any cat that asks, nothing precious."
Tangledpaw nodded, "I suppose Lionclaw is good practice when it comes to that." He joked.
Frosttiger chuckled then saw Graystar sharply point her tail down, he nudged Tangledpaw then charged down, his apprentice on his heels.
Foxstar looked up from where he stood on the rock, he jumped down and approached the StormClan leader, making her stop and lift her chin, eyes narrowed.
He gazed at her, locking his eye with hers.
The two stared at each other then dipped Foxstar dipped his head, turning tail and weaving among his Clanmates.
Frosttiger blinked but then nudged his apprentice, "Go-" A familiar and unwelcome scent washed over him, making him snap his head up. Leopardclaw was sitting down, a few tail lengths away, talking to Snakeheart, her fur brushing with his.
He let out a soft snarl, but it was loud enough for her to hear as she turned and quickly moved further away.
He let out a huff and turned to his confused looking apprentice, "Ignore that. Go make some friends." He pushed his apprentice with a paw and looked up, seeing Oakstar approaching.
"Hello Oakstar!" He called, seeing the tom flick his ear in acknowledgement.
He looked around and saw Gingernose, "Hey, wheres Nuttail?"
"In the Nursery with my kits!" Gingernose purred happily, his eyes glittering.
"That's great! I'm sure that their going to be as strong as their father." He purred, making the toms ears droop in embarrassment.
"I'm going to assume you meant that as a compliment." He murmured.
Frosttiger chuckled, "Hey, why did you snarl at Leopardpaw?" He was caught off guard by the sudden question, he licked his chest fur trying to recollect himself. "There was a battle recently." He explained, "Graystar will explain." He turned and hurried away before the ginger tom could ask anymore questions and saw his apprentice talking to Sparklepaw, a black tom that was obviously BreezeClan, and a few other apprentices.
"Tangledpaw!" He called, making his apprentice look up, his brown fur glowing in the moonlight, "Come here, the Gatherings starting!"
Tangledpaw nodded and said something to the apprentice and bounded towards him sitting down next to his mentor.
"Cats of all Clans!" Smallstar yowled, "The Gathering is starting now!" He backed up, casting a questionable glance at Oakstar.
He padded forward, "Icestar has passed." He began, mews of surprise and grief met his words but he raised his tail, silencing them. "it is.. hard news I know, but I am now leader of DeltaClan and I will do my best to honor her."
Smallstar nodded, "She was a wonderful leader, I trust her judgement, welcome Oakstar." He bowed his head.
Oakstar bowed his head, "Your words are as kind as your heart Smallstar." He replied, making the tom smile slightly, "DeltaClan, otherwise, is perfectly fine. The river had risen because of some rocks but they have been washed and everything is normal. I would like to, once again, thank StormClan for letting us shelter in their territory." Graystar gave a nod. "Other than that, we have a few new apprentices Icestars kits, Sparklepaw and Jaguarpaw, we also have Volepaw and we would like to welcome Berrypool as a medicine cat." He nodded down at the tom who were sitting at the base of Deputystones, who straightened up beside Lakemist. "Also Minnowcloud is our newest warrior," Yowls of congratulations were thrown at the pretty she-cat. "Hookclaw is our new deputy and prey is plentiful." He finished, backing up.
Smallstar took his place, "Halftail has retired to the elders den," He started, tail tip twitching, "She was medicine cat for many seasons and I am honored to have had her by my side for as long as I had."
"Halftail! Halftail!" BreezeClan yowled, getting joined by many other cats.
"Nettlebush is our new medicine cat and he is joined by his apprentice Mintpaw, Seedpaw, Hallowpaw, Crowpaw, and Raggedpaw are here and Molefoot is our newest warrior."
Frosttiger joined with the congratulatory praise. "Prey runs well and we are strong." He backed up and Graystar took his place.
"StormClan is strong!" She called, her voice strong, "All borders are protected and defended well." She glanced at Foxstar, who shifted his gaze forward, "We are blessed with new kits, and we have one new apprentice, Tangledpaw!"
Frosttiger saw his apprentice straighten up, chest puffed out proudly.
"Also, we have sad news, Mousetail has joined StarClan." Mews of grief came from senior warriors and the medicine cats. "He will be remembered, Rainpebble is now our full medicine cat."
"Where's Whispersong?" Oakstar asked, whiskers twitching.
Graystar looked at him with a cool look, "Whispersong is fine, she just has worked herself half to death." She mewed, tail tip twitching, "DeltaClan cats have no reason to be concerned, wouldn't you agree Oakstar?"
Oakstar blinked then he nodded, "Of course."
Frosttiger felt tension between the two, he saw Oakstars ear flick, before he looked away.
Graystar watched him before continuing, "Otherwise, prey is rich and we are strong."
Foxstar pushed his way forward, "Rocksun has been killed!" He yowled, Frosttigers fur bristled, as did many of his comrades.
Was Foxstar really trying to start another battle.
He slid his claws out and shifted his eyes towards the MarshClan cats, he saw a glint of green somewhere in the ambers and blues, but he froze when he heart Foxstars next words.
"And it's entirely my fault." Mews of shock arose, mostly from MarshClan.
He waved his tail, "I started a fight that shouldn't of been, I have done many things wrong and I will admit that. I would formally like to tell Graystar, and all cats of StormClan, that there will be no more trouble between us." He dipped his head.
Graystar looked surprised but she nodded and said something that Frosttiger couldn't catch.
"Bloodclaw has replaced Rocksun, I know that Bloodclaw is young, but he's smart and is fair. I trust he will be a fitting replacement. Other than that, we are joined by Leopardclaw," Frosttiger let out a growl, earning a look from Foxstar though he did not say a word, "And Wasppaw."
A few yowls greeted the new warriors but most was from MarshClan. "In addition, we would like to tell the Clans that blood is tainted easily and is hard to maintain, some blood had to be lost so that more can grow. I'm perfectly fine shedding blood to keep my Clan safe, now, MarshClan come! We're leaving!" He jumped down and led his cats off but when he padded past, his eyes locked with Frosttiger.
The knowing look in his eyes told Frosttiger that he knew StormClan had Leopardclaws kits, and that he knew that they were half-clan.
'I'm perfectly fine shedding blood to keep my Clan safe.'
He didn't give a mousetail about those kits now, just like Leopardclaw, and that sparked a hatred in Frosttigers heart.
"Tangledpaw! Focus!" Frosttiger growled for at least the tenth time, he was in the Sandy Hallow and had shown a move to his apprentice but it was proving difficult as Tangledpaw had been distracted all day.
"Great StarClan, first you miss a mouse that practically threw itself in your paws, then you leave a thorn elders nest, now you can't even pay attention to moves that spell life or death for you when fighting occurs." He ranted, glaring at his apprentice, "Honestly Tangledpaw, you need to stop having tangled thoughts, this is what you've been wanting to do isn't it?"
Tangledpaw flinched, then nodded, "I-I'm sorry.. it's just.." He bit his lip then looked away, "nothing.. nothing important.." He let out a soft sigh.
Frosttiger blinked, "If there's something you need to tell me, if you don't feel good or if the move is to complicated, tell me! I'm your mentor that's what we're for."
"It's not that, I understand the move completely, and I feel.." He let out a long breath, "I was with Flamekit last night.. it wasn't anything special but it made my paws feel light and my heart soar. I don't know.. I just can't get my mind off her."
Frosttiger nodded, "I feel like that with Heatherpaw sometimes," He smiled at the thought of his mate, "But I'm a warrior and she's an apprentice, most of the time we get together is at night, where she doesn't have to focus on anything. Once both you and Flamekit are warriors you can moon all over her but not now." He ordered, "Now, come on, show me how fierce you are."
Tangledpaw blinked then lunged, but due to him eyeing his left flank he dodged and landed a hard blow on his apprentices side.
"Don't look where you're attacking just attack!" He growled, tail lashing.
Tangledpaw let out a roar and leaped at him, landing blow after blow on his ears and the top of his head. Frosttiger had his chin tucked and he opened his eyes for a split second before he retaliated with a front blow, dazing the brown tom. Taking advantage of this, he kicked him off.
Tangledpaw landed with a hard thud on his side, making his mentor wince, but he quickly stood and lunged forward.
Frosttiger didn't think, he quickly flicked his hind legs in the air, spinning on his forepaws, due to him spinning Tangledpaw raced right past him, and he spun to face his enemy but it was to late as he reared up and raked his face. Tangledpaw ducked and lashed out but he tucked and rolled, far away from Tangledpaw.
He leaped onto his apprentice and pinned him down.
Tangledpaw panted, "That move was amazing! Who taught you that?"
Frosttiger blinked, "I picked it up." He lied, fur prickling.
He glanced at the corner of the Sandy Hallow, seeing Darksoul standing there, eyes narrowed. He flicked his gaze back to his apprentice who was practicing the forepaw slash, then he lunged forward and ranked his claws down the flank of an invisible enemy.
"That's enough for now." Frosttiger warned him, "You're tired, lets head back to camp."
Tangledpaw nodded and followed him, yapping on about something.
"That move was amazing! If all of our Clan knew that-"
"Then all will fall into bloodshed." Frosttiger growled, stopping, making his apprentice bump into him.
"What do you mean?" Tangledpaw asked, eyes wide in fear.
"Skip it." He muttered, sitting down at the entrance of camp, "Get something to eat then rest."
Tangledpaw stared at him for a heartbeat then reached out his paw and rested it on his shoulder before retreating it and padding inside.
Frosttiger stared after his apprentice, sadness and regret in his heart.
If I go on like this.. I'll destroy everyone.
